what's going on guys Nick here with another body language analysis this time of Will Ferrel which is actually one of my favorite comedians on the planet now this is gonna be kind of a departure from some of our previous analyses just because the majority of the time the analyses that I've already done are talking about low-value body language they're talking about people fidgeting people finicky people scratching their forehead behind their ear posture leery adjusting doing a million different things now what you'll see about Will Ferrell is he does none of this he is almost the stereotypical high value men and the reason for this is actually a concept I wanted to touch on the absence of low value body language behavior is high value body language okay there's usually very few things that actually constitute high value body language usually if you see somebody and you're like damn that guy looks confident although I can't quite pin my finger on why it's because it's not necessarily like he's super crazy high value it's more so that he's just not engaging in any of the standard low value body language behaviors that people do the only time you're ever gonna see Will Ferrell and make any type of low value body language behavior during this interview is probably right there at the beginning just as he sits down and gets one posture readjustment the majority of this is just gonna be me telling you why his body language is so high value plus a couple of the good you know postures that he's adopting that you yourself can take for the future in any type of social situation type of interview that you're gonna be in to make yourself seem higher value so further ado let's get right into it it is like Christmas morning you didn't even shake my hand a common courtesy of shaking the hosts hand but know who you are I just look at that thing and want to attack it why are you so angry a new beard there is nothing else going on in this country other than the fervor to shave that dear I turn on the television last all right so one thing I want to point out right off the bat is notice how slow and sweeping Will Ferrell's gestures are he takes his time he's not super fidgety he's not going back and forth when he wants to point at Conan he points at him when he wants to stamp on the desk he stamps on the desk the only time you're ever gonna see Will Ferrell this entire interview make any even remotely low-value body language behaviour is right at the beginning and this is actually pretty standard I mean you think about your own life anytime you're beginning a big conversation and you're headed to an interview usually the beginning is one of the most nervous so you can kind of tell Will Ferrell right over here that one posture adjustment there he's already sat down but he's posture readjusting why well it's probably because he's a little more nervous and it's like Christmas morning him moving his leg forward then pushing it back being like okay hold on a second I need to find a posture that's comfortable for me for this interview you didn't even shake my hand a cup opening and closing that razor this actually plays in the joke of well for all wanting to trim Conan's super gangly beard is another pacifying behavior you didn't heed to open or closed fat if you think about it logically there was really no reason for him to do so but look at how the pacifying behaviors decrease every second after you know 12 courtesy of shaking the hosts hand know who you are I just look at that thing and want to attack it why are you so angry in this beer there is nothing else going on in this country other than the fervor to shave that dear and notice to in this particular segment how Will Ferrell doesn't move at all his face does he looks around the crowd but everything from neck down is completely static it is completely still that right there is high-value behavior your impression of Will Ferrell up to this point is wow that guy is confident and there's a reason for that I turn on the television last night right to see if people are talking about it there were people celebrating in front of the White House cheating us a shaved the beard shaved the beard not sure you've heard them correct fired up evilly the president there's one more little posture adjustment back there they didn't really need to have the president talked about it talked about it but most things from here on out are incredibly high value and I could go through this entire interview here to show you guys I'm just gonna really quickly swipe through you'll notice the by and large he makes next to no movements look at how his hands are completely still for a good 5 to 10 seconds here then he plays around with his prop that he has right they tell jokes well Pharaoh's like absolutely riot on TV he's one of the funniest guys I know and one of the big reasons for this is just the way that he portrays himself very strong high-value body language now on the note of high-value body language one thing that most people that are high value and that are very comfortable during an interview will use is a slow sweeping hand gesture and I mentioned this before but I want to I want to mention it again you'll see will multiple times during the interview do stuff like this television last night right to see if people were talking about it there were people celebrating in front of the White House the scene would be a little different and be a little less funny and a little less impactful if both of his hands were just locked down while he was saying this right so you know he uses his hands usually both them at the same time anytime he's making a grande point and this is something you'll see any very powerful speaker whether it be Barack Obama Donald Trump you know the guy at your Toastmasters seminar once a week anybody who's very very good at public speaking will do stuff like this to enunciate points and kind of put points more strongly across you can also see how he's obviously very confident he's totally okay with leaning forward and making those large sweeping hand gestures to the delight of Conan and he repeats this several times throughout the interview the impression you get a Will Ferrell through this entire bit is this guy knows he's funny he's clearly putting a bit on of some kind but it's very very evident that you know he's confident his material he knows that it's hilarious and he has a strong feeling of the audience is gonna like it except for maybe that one second they're just gonna go back and forth with that razor but suffice to say guys the reason I showed you this is because I wanted to lighten the mood just a little bit instead of just talking all day about terrible low-value body language behavior those nervous tics and kind of the stuff that you saw from Emma Stone and Ryan Reynolds and so on and so forth we get to look at high-value body language behavior from somebody like a Will Ferrell who by the way is an absolute expert on-screen he's been on screen for 15 maybe 20 years at this point so these skills that he's refined aren't necessarily god-given talents their skills that anybody can learn including you so next time you're doing a public presentation next time you're on a stage next time you're talking to somebody on a conversation in the middle of the day whatever try and keep your hands and legs still try not to move around too much or fidget too much and look at the difference in perception look at the difference in the way the neck the other person is going to respond to you I can guarantee you guys if you guys keep this up for 5 10 15 minutes you'll notice a substantial difference I've done it many powerful speakers do it and you can do it too so if you guys like that video ladies and gentlemen please as always like subscribe leave me a comment I've been getting tons of questions about high-value body language recently which is why I decided to do a video on it if you guys want me to do video on something else please let me know I'm more than happy to do so always down to help out the body language community I will see you guys next time
