Body Language Analysis - Emma Stone

what's going on guys got another body language analysis for you this time of Emma Stone the absolutely beautiful woman you see pictured right over here now Emma Stone is considered by many people to be incredibly confident incredibly charismatic as well and very funny and you'll see that this frame or this kind of image of her doesn't really translate that well to this interview it just suffered a bit of contact this interview was taken sometime in 2011 which is actually immediately after she became famous and so she does look incredibly confident from the neck up I think she's worked quite a bit on her face and stuff like that but the skills that you'll gain and me breaking this down will enable you to be able to tell symptoms of anxiety or nervousness from the neck down so you'll see pronounced behaviors with their arms with the way she partially readjusts with her legs and so on and so forth so out further ado I'm gonna dive right into it and you guys will see what I mean through the interview and the way this is gonna work is I'm going to show you the behavior then I'm gonna stop I'm gonna rewind playback in slow mo while annotating while talking about what that behavior means and then we're gonna move on and play to the next one so without further ado well let you you stood up for me anyway your character stuck up for him I mean you friend she's a little yeah and something's wrong with her site right she's looking at this and saying you ginger junkie I didn't write it yeah but I disagree yeah thank you well thank you for sticking up for me I gotta represent and speaking of redheads you know I always was in the impression that you were a natural redhead okay so stopping there we saw a number of things happen mostly in this area right over here is emits tones a little unconfident about her dress and kind of what areas oh she needs to cover up now keep mine like I was saying before this is one of her first interviews if you look at her interviews now they're very very different probably because she understands show this a little bit more and she's a little more confident from the camera but back here the symptoms are very telling take a quick look at this so anytime you see a spike in anxiety or nervousness usually have a posture adjustment mind you she's just settling in a room talking about this what you see right there is even after she settles in there's a mild foster readjustment she's very nervous obviously to be on stage here in for Anna Conan and she's moving her hands as well look at the irregular placement of her arms well like you stood up for me you'll also notice several times throughout that she doesn't really know what to do with her hands did you see back here she's thinking okay hey do I put them on that you know armchair rest what weight do do I kind of go up a little bit and okay let me you know swing it back here and anyway she settles into this posture where she's crossing her left leg over her right and her elbows are at about shoulder height and this is stereotypically a pretty confident posture Eric you stuck up for him I mean but look what she's doing with her hands she's not very confident about the way that this dress sits on her and as a result she's constantly playing with it she's making sure that it covers various parts of her body well I mean if I couldn't even see her playing with it over here something's wrong with her sight you know and then you see her go from her a relatively confident behavior over here to the hands coming down she's looking at it she's also covering the dress constantly and her hands are kind of you know going back and saying hey do I go to the arm rest to it but man and ginger and you see that again right over here she's thinking herself who I'm just gonna put my hands over here oh wait a second there's nothing here to put my hands to jeez I look kind of weird ginger jelling she's constantly moving obviously she's very anxious or nervous this point right now the important thing to note though is most people wouldn't really be able to pick up on it most people would see somebody like Emma Stone a thing oh it's naturally very full of energy very charming and very charismatic but the reality is she's a little more nervous than she lets on I didn't write it yeah but I disagree yeah thank you well thank you for sticking up for me got a represent and speaking of redheads you know Iowa now the issue with her dress crops up several times here first thing that happens is she's cooler than putting this off a relatively long time so it finally after about a minute on screen she says to look down see okay cool is everything still fine down there it is represent and then she just speaking red heads with her left hand now she's keeping the drug you know I always wasn't the impression that you were a natural rep and she's actually holding it there with her fingers at head but you're not you are a blonde is this right you're blonde and you decided to go red at some point yes how'd that happen well I was um I was yeah I wasn't blonde my whole life and then I dyed my hair brown when I was when I was 15 and then I went in for Superbad and the other girl martha MacIsaac had brown hair and so Judd Apatow walked in and just said make it red and then ever since I've been red what kind of power does Judd Apatow it shall be red and it just instantly changed the color Wow now have you is life now one thing I want to point out here is the very big difference in anxiety levels from here when she was moving around every two seconds very finicky not really knowing where to rest and here where she's listening to Conan kind of regular with the story and she's think of what she's gonna say next one of the big reasons for this postural shift and this change in pacifying behaviour it's probably because if you guys aren't familiar with how Conan or any one of these late-night TV show works the guest and the the host literally usually have a brief conversation beforehand talking about hey I want to cover these points we have these jokes kind of to go off of and these are typically the anchors of the show everything in between these jokes are these bits or these segments are usually spontaneous and that's where you typically see higher levels of pacifying behavior because Conan and Emma Stone or the the guest on the interview usually aren't really sure hey what do I actually say at this point in time so back here at the very beginning you see Emma Stone she's you know very fidgety doesn't really know what to do it probably isn't a rehearsed a bit this probably is something that they have agreed upon before but then you see her move the second that Conan starts talking about the next bit she settles in to a pretty static posture and then she stays there over the course the next you know 15 to 20 seconds probably because she knew a little bit more about what she was gonna say and then help die down the anxiety not to mention at this point it's about two minutes into the interviews she's a little more confident let's see if there's anything else before we stop and it shall be read and it just instantly changed for color Wow now have you is life different for you as a redheaded woman do people treat you differently as a redhead I didn't well I didn't really think about it I just you know cuz I've had it for five years but then I just had blonde hair for spider-man yeah and I dyed it back as soon as I could to red and I walked into my apartment and my friend max was there and he said look funnier as a redhead I was like really he said yeah you you've been you've seemed like a for the past six months so there's something about red hair that makes you seem a little funnier a little funnier with red hair a couple things I want to note back there if you play through you can see you at the very beginning of this story when she's still a little unsure it's a mom pass funny people treat you differently as a redhead I didn't well I think end with touching her face I think about it I just you know cuz I've had it for five years and later on as well you'll see as she moves her hand for the dress you see this hand is gonna come down it's going to kind of hold the dress there because she's still a little not confident about how that dress about red hair that makes you seem a little funnier she constantly needs to be holding on to that funnier with red hair oh yeah especially if it moves like that [Applause] yeah all right guys there's a quick body language breakdown of Emma Stone on this interview like I said for context this is in 2011 before she was super confident on camera the majority of people wouldn't be able to pick up on some of these body language cues and body language displays but suffice to say she's pretty nervous on this interview and you can see mostly because of those crazy postural changes the way that she's constantly fidgeting back and forth back and forth and the way that she's clearly very or rather she's not very confident about the way that dress sits on her you guys have any questions as always feel free to
