chemistry especially after a 32 7 loss at Miami in week 2 but in the weeks ahead marbly B's team would prove not only that it had what it took to win but that it could do so in more electrifying ways than any team in football beginning with an impossible week for comeback against the Broncos and the put-down no way wait till the snap match up in the pocket he throws it in three touchdowns in a minute and 17 seconds shocked Denver and a week later another fourth-quarter explosion rocked the undefeated Raiders there is traitor waiting first at 10:00 at the 45 and his quick throw is caught at midfield Buffalo's 24 unanswered points stunned a national TV audience and one week later the irrepressible bills waited until the waning seconds to produce their third straight cardiac comeback no longer could anyone question buffalos will to win great football team with a lot of moral fiber and a lot of character and they showed it the bills built their winning character through contributions enjoyed his day in the Sun the bills defense posted two shutouts during Buffalo's eight game winning streak it was a unit of big play bravado and big game intensity and it put to rest any doubts that the 1990 Bills had what it took to win a championship if Buffalo's defense pounded like a hammer the Bills offense sucked like a Swiss Army knife a varied assortment of weapons and gadgets that could strike in almost any fashion its newest feature was a no-huddle attack and in the hands of quarterback Jim Kelly Buffalo's razor-sharp offense carved up opposing defenses at will he throws long this time thirty-four-year-old James Lofton Buffalo's oldest weapon had to feel like a kid again as he averaged more than 20 yards on 35 receptions with veterans like Lofton and Pete metzelaars and rising young stars like Don Beebe and number 84 tight end Keith McKellen Jim Kelly enjoyed a Pro Bowl season as the NFL's highest rated passer Kelly helped make Steve tasker's first NFL reception a memorable one but Kelly's favorite target in 1990 was Buffalo's all-time leading receiver Andre reeds elusiveness after the catch helped earn him another trip to the Pro Bowl and he firmly established himself as one of the NFL's shining stars at wide receiver read help the bills feel the NFL's highest-scoring offense but it would not have been possible without Buffalo's powerful men up front two more Pro knee of Jim Kelly this was gut check time for Buffalo and with both starting quarterback sidelines the Bills defense once again answered the call the inspired bill stood firm and dealt the Giants their only home loss of the season but the bill still needed a victory the following week against Miami to secure the division title and guarantee a Merry Christmas in Buffalo the man who hoped to gift-wrap the division title was second string quarterback Frank Reich a proven winner whom buffalo fans backed all heartedly like under center this is where it gets tough and the traffic gets heavy right we're all looking looking here is right the throw behind right the bills never trailed and when Thurman Thomas capped off a 154 yard rushing performance with a fourth quarter score at the division title once again and belonged to Buffalo the bills were AFC Eastern Division champions for the third straight season the bills completed the regular season undefeated at rich Stadium and with their club record 13th victory they had for the first time ever earned home-field throughout the AFC playoffs at long last the road to the Super Bowl went through Buffalo the start of the playoffs also signaled the return of several familiar sights at rich Stadium a January snowfall the division rival Miami Dolphins back for their second visit in four weeks and most important quarterback Jim Kelly Kelly was seeing his first action since his knee injury a month earlier but instead of being slowed by the brace on his left leg Kelly led a quick paced no huddle attack that showed the Dolphins no mercy the shotgun backed the mast the Blitz is on he throws he's got a man at the 20 in the no-huddle offense Kelly to throw again now he throws it downfield the bills hurry up offense scored the first five times it had the ball the mills have been unstoppable so far they have been a scoring machine in the snow at rich Stadium the bills frolicked in the elements all day and when the dolphins were never able to solve Buffalo's offense the bills put the game away in the fourth quarter I'm handsome when the morning Jim Kelly's heroic return had taken Buffalo one step closer to their
