[Music] hey everyone joe here in today's video i want to show you how you can record your desktop or gameplay into obs studio 27 but before we get started everybody keeps asking hey how can we help support your channel well the best way to support the channel is like my videos and share them with your friends and family that being said let's hop in here to this okay everybody well i have obs 27 over here on my desktop now you'll notice we only have one scene here list is seen you'll always have one seen by default and if we look over in our sources area you notice there are no sources and we'll be adding one of those here in just a moment but first we need to go into our settings and set up some settings stuff first so now you can access your settings from the controls down at settings or you can go to file and go down to settings from the menu okay let's first hop down here to advanced and let's make sure that our render is direct3d11 our process priority is set to high color format we do want nv12 and color space rec 709 which is already listed in mine call range also we want to use partial okay now let's go up to video here now i have a default canvas size of 2560x1440 which is the resolution of my monitor and since i record you know a lot of desktop stuff that's what i'm using and of course i have 59.94 set because i also record a lot of my desktop and that's what my monitor is however if you're just recording tutorials and stuff in your slower video maybe just recording card games you may actually can go down to say 30p here or 29.97 if you actually just want to go half or whatever your monitor is that's really up to you so if you're just recording your tutorials and stuff where mostly just your mouse cursor is moving around your audience isn't going to care if it's in 60p or 30p so it's really depend upon you now if you're going uh recording a lot of gaming and stuff like 3d motion games and stuff something you know a little more than just say dota if you're recording like world of warcraft you know counter-strike stuff that nature you definitely want to use the faster frames per second here of 60 frames per second alrighty i said i'm using 57.94 that's exactly what my monitor is now far as your base canvas resolution here you don't have to use what your monitor is here you can actually set this at 1440 uh actually you know 4k if you want to by just manually inputting or you can put in a smaller one you can choose smaller ones or less your base you know but from the dropbox but you know obs does give you option here if you want to put in say 4k 3840 by 2160 which i believe that's 4k yeah it sure is and punch that in boom you can actually do use that now and you can actually find it here in the list as well however like i said i'm just going to record my desktop size here so i'm not going to and we want to make both uh sure both of these do actually match that way prevent any kind blurring anything all right downscale filter ignored it's not used as long as you're not downscaling from this but hey if you wanted to record 1440p and downscale your video to a smaller one say like 720p or if you just want to record down at 1920p you can actually do that but i highly don't recommend you actually downscale here if any way possible alrighty so i want to set this one back alrighty so anyway common frames per second uh resolution already covered those and we'll get into more of that here in just a minute let's go up to audio we do want to make sure our audio and stuff's added you know the microphone your main mic mine's coming in through voice meter which this is my output for my microphone however you can choose yours from the list here if you want to actually find your other microphone up if you want to hook directly to your audio interface like my moto m2 it's listed right here you want to make sure all that setup cable d is set up from my desktop stuff and the voicemail aux here is set up for my music and this is important because we'll have all these three tracks separated in our final audio and i'll show you how to set that up when we get to that point all right uh music sample rate here i want to make sure it's at 48 kilohertz because 48 kilohertz is what i use in my system and it's important that you actually match the stuff what you're after recording at if not your audio may sound glitchy and have us audio errors we don't want that so make sure this is matched up a few entire systems run at 40 uh 44.1 use that one if you run it out 48 use that one okay now let's go up here to output ignore streaming because we're not covering streaming on this one was to go over to audio here now these audios where you can set your bit rate for each track and you want to use the highest one possible if you're just recording to your desktop and you plan on using aac now these only apply to your aac default encoding audio encoder and stuff that obs uses now i'm going to show you in this tutorial and set up wave and if you want more more about the wave setup or wave audio and stuff do check up in the cards i have my video where i set up wave audio in obs going to more detail on it alrighty so i've glossed over that a little bit let's go over here to recording the default is going to list the standard here however we're going to be changing it to custom output ffmpeg alrighty container format we need to use is mov if mov is not in the list uh listed you'll find it in the list that's the one you want to use it'll be listed all through here and it's important we use mlv because it's the only one that actually let us use uh wave audio irony your path or file or url you can set that up anywhere you want to output your file this is where everything is going to go joe slash videos is where mine defaults to and that's where my recordings will go to what i do at your record okay now we don't have to mess with mux settings video bitrate i'll come to back that in just a moment frame intervals we want that every two seconds now if you remember i'm recording 60 frames per second or pretty close to it so every two seconds is you know 120 frames if you're recording at 30 frames per second you want to set this to 60. if you're coordinate 60 frames a second obviously 60 times 2 it's 120. alrighty rescale output ignore using that we're not using it and the video encoder now this is where you want to find yours listed mine's not going to show the amd one directly but the amf one is listed here for h dot c2 h.264 let me get that out correctly and that would work amd and stuff but you actually want to use your amd one if you're using it and i'll put a link up on the screen or post a little picture of what the amd would look like now i mind using most of the uh nvinc here as you said here i got the h.264 in vince one it's totally up to you but i'm gonna use the h.265 because the video quality is just slightly bit better alrighty now audio bitrate ignore this if you plan on using wave it's only applied if you're using aac which is the default recorder now since we are recording three different inputs into our audio or record track audio one two and three so this means when i have to record my audio you will have three different audio tracks so when your final file is created in obs and your recording you will have three separate audio tracks okay so we'll make sure all those are checked and for the audio encoder i am going to use wave so i want to go find pcm here s24be this signs for signed 24 bit big indian all right this matches what my audio interface is 24 bit 48 kilohertz all right audio encoder said not gonna use that so you can just ignore it okay let's talk about your video bitrate now you're probably looking for a straight up answer hey just use this and you're not going to find one because it really depends upon a few different factors of what you're actually doing with your video one your canvas size that you're recording at your frame rate that you're recording it and third which is also very very important how much motion is going on in your screen now i define low motion as for example where at least 90 of your canvas is static not being moved for example if you're recording something you do on your desktop and pretty much the only thing that's really getting moved around a little bit is your mouse cursor that's why i consider low motion high motion on the other end is if you're recording something like counter-strike you'll see us go world of warcraft's you know 3d mmo games alrighty so what video bit rate should you use let's say if we had a lot low movement 30 frames per second on like 720p get down as low as 3 000 kilobits per second and if you're running 4k at 30 frames per second you can go up to say 30 000 kilobits per second and that's if you're using like say just your mouse cursors moving around however and if you go up to 60 frames per second and got a lot of high movement you know 720p you'll want to use as minimum as 10 000 and 4k as high as a hundred thousand kilos a second which some computers may struggle actually recording that or processing later right down uh later on so let me post some slides appear on the screen to kind of give you an idea of what you should be using [Music] okay so for me 60 frames per second high motion and my canvas size is 2560 for 1440p this needs to be set to 40 000 and that's what i'll be using okay let me hit apply on that one and let's hit okay ignore that because i'm recording at the moment alrighty now what do we want to do now now we want to actually go in and add our scene all right so let's click on this and let's go into our scene here and i'm going to put in game capture but you got a few ones here you can use first i'm going to shoot uh display capture let's leave it this display capture and so you got everything on the screen so now this you're seeing everything this is my desktop recording my desktop which is recording my desktop a little desktop inception here now you can actually record your gameplay this way if you wanted to now if you want to record say your gameplay and not record your desktop whatsoever for security reasons you can click game capture and let's leave it labeled as game capture alrighty so get your mode here capture specific window which one i actually use this one says capture any full screen application it can jump from one thing to the other and so i don't like it i have to like capture specific windows if i choose that one it'll list me a whole bunch here that i can choose from and we'll notice one of these is listed hey the witcher 3. i have that running in the background alright as you can see that automatically popped up here now you can uh have this change a few things to your while transparency and limit capture frame rate and use anti-cheat compatibility hooks most all this just ignore leave the defaults in there and just hit ok now we can lock this one in place as well and if you ever want to say hi this say if you want to record desktop at one point you can just hide that one with little eyeballs here or you can click on the eyeball and bring it back okay now i can mention something about the audio earlier we want to record three different tracks we'll record a game our microphone and our music here so let's right click on this and go to advanced audio properties alrighty so by default here if you're streaming and stuff you definitely want your streaming to all go to track one so you want to say hey i want my game to go to track one my microphone to go track one with musical track one because those will be streamed out if you're not streaming then you don't have to have all these checked on one but for example say you are streaming you want those set out at one but then maybe you want your microphone separate and maybe you want your music um say it on separate say them a microphone also on two here track two game audio and put them on track three and my music can put it on track four and this would be very helpful if you want to do something later on if your game for example you may be streaming and you want to record your stream you know and say you want to upload to youtube but you don't have a license use your music that you're streaming with on youtube this will let you go in and actually remove that later on and use a different music track alrighty but i'm just going to say probably you just recorded your desktop so i would use this microphone for one desktop or game for uh two here and music if you get anything going for three alrighty that way we track one two and three and once you get that done you can actually hit close here but before we go any further if you do have to record for my interface and you're using mono for like your microphone then to get both tracks to sound you may have to click mono right here however mine isn't mine's in stereo because i'm going through voice meter so i don't have it checked but if you're according to the audio interface there's a real good chance you'll have to click mono here that way you get audio coming out on both sides okay once you get that done you're done the only thing left to do is go ahead and click start start recording okay everybody well that's it for this tutorial i hope you found it helpful and if you did how about give me a thumbs up thumbs up it's always highly appreciated now if you're not a subscriber to my channel now's a great time subscribe subscribing's free it's for you unless you know when i was more
