very exciting video for you guys because this week we're learning a piece that's straight out of my working repertoire and one that's a real reputation maker this is a visual mentalism piece i didn't misspeak i know that mentalism is usually psychological and extremely rarely as a visual component but this one does it's simple it's powerful and it's a real reputation maker and i know you guys are going to love it but before we jump into that i want to talk about something else real quick last week we had a really great live stream on the channel a lot of you guys were able to join me and show us some amazing magic we did a bunch of tutorials where we learned some great tricks so if you missed it go check it out but i also did something i called the unwinnable contest i was so convinced now let's learn this week's amazing visual mentalism effect as always i want you guys to see a performance first so here it is welcome to the performance everyone super excited to have on the channel today ekaterina who is an epic youtuber and cardisterness cardinis kardashian cardisteries huh cardist like card artist seriously yeah that's adorable cardist cartist all right i'm going to show you something with mental mentalist car artist mental artist mental artist that's cool i actually like that mental artist going to think in your mind of someone that you know personally but you think we have a lot of friends in common so no one that we both know somebody i wouldn't be able to guess yeah you have someone i do okay focus on their initials first and last initial got it good i've got some index cards here grab any one of them doesn't matter and on one side of it i want you to write down the initials in capital letters i will turn away like this so i can't see i'll turn away from the camera as well and you let me know when you're done okay almost done nice i'll take the pen first make sure it's dry make sure i can't see it and go ahead and pop it in somewhere in the middle that's perfect right there and i want you to take a look at that really register it in your mind get a nice visual image of that in your mind got it yeah cool and i'm not even going to be the one to push it and i want you to push it and go ahead and push it all the way in just like that so it's somewhere in the middle and there's no way i can know where and we're going to give it a couple of cuts like this that way it's completely lost focus it's fair good focus on those initials look at me over here focus on this cut it yes okay i'm gonna try to guess these initials now here's the thing as a cardist you create art with cards i'm gonna huh you can say that yeah i did say that i'm gonna create art with your thoughts okay i'm gonna go with that a little bit of this that's what i'm going to commit to right there i'm 100 sure this is accurate i'm going to fold it up set it down here that way i can't touch it now do we agree that there's no way i could've known these initials awesome for the first time tell everyone at home what were the initials a i a i like artificial intelligence like my husband's name oh your husband's name a.i your husband's name you didn't say to me that you that's who you're going to think of okay check this out you thought of a.i yeah i want you to see this bam that that sort of looks like ai but the other one oh artificial intelligence looks like a mess here's the thing i told you this was art i didn't specify it's abstract art watch this see the lighter watch carefully if i just do that you could see right there on that piece of paper a nice i those are the initials you were thinking of and that is your prize that you could take home that's crazy i'm so confused right now because i have not seen you use anything other than a sharpie and the other thing is the deck is right here when did you why did you look when did you peek what you don't know when i saw it no you seriously don't know not for the camera seriously you don't know i was burning your hands i taught that peak on the channel guys guys that peak that we learned on the channel just fooled one of the best in the world are you serious i didn't tell you to say that no but clearly i missed that video well you can watch that and now you can watch this on the channel to learn it and you're seriously just going to teach that yeah this yeah right now right now right now right go right now now here we go with the detailed explanation but before we jump into it do me a favor if you haven't already hit that subscribe button turn those notifications on for more amazing mentalism magic and hypnosis content so this trick is very versatile you can reveal initials a name a playing card a drawing pretty much anything in a really cool way but it's also a first on the channel this is the first time that i'm teaching you guys something where you absolutely need something that most of you probably don't have now it's really not expensive and i'll leave a link in the description where you could get it delivered right to your door but i want you guys to see how sometimes by adding something that's not an ordinary object you really elevate your magic to a level that you just can't get to with ordinary objects i love impromptu magic but this just hits a whole different reaction so there are two parts to this piece the first part is you have to figure out what they're secretly thinking of the second part is the really cool reveal on the piece of paper i'm gonna start with that i'm gonna start with the end and then i'll cover how i knew the initial she was thinking of but you don't have to use the same method i use there are a million methods in magic to know what someone's thinking so you can use any one of those and mix it with this paper reveal here are the things you need for the really cool reveal on the piece of paper the first thing you need is a pad of paper any pad works as long as the paper is pretty thick not too thin then you need a black pen i love these twin tip sharpies because i use the marker side for them to write the initials down and then i use this side as a pen love these things then you need a lighter doesn't have to be a zipple any lighter is fine and finally the secret weapon is this this is called a friction pen it is not a magic pen it's not a magic prop this is a pen that they sell in stationery stores and art supply stores for anyone and i'll leave a link in the description where you can get these delivered right to your door they're really not that expensive but they have a really cool secret here's what it is this pen is advertised as a pen that erases the ink so there's this little eraser on the back and you can erase whatever you wrote down like so but most people who have this don't understand how it works see it's not like a pencil it's not that you're rubbing off the ink that's not what's happening this is a special ink that vanishes when exposed to heat and what you're doing by rubbing it is creating heat but if your source of heat comes from something else like a lighter you can just touch it like this and it magically disappears look how cool that looks so how are we going to use this in the trick well on the back of the first paper and then the second paper third paper for as many as you want you're going to make a big scribble now when i do this i fill out like a dozen papers on the back like this because when i do a gig and i'm walking around table to table or during the cocktail hour and i want to do this multiple times i've got it ready to fire off like 12 times so big mess like this all over straight lines curls let go restart and you want to end up with a big mess like that now if i close the pad of course you could see a bit of a bump but there really isn't that much to see that goes in my pocket this i don't need i just prepare a bunch and i can leave this at home now that your pages are prepared and this is in your pocket you first have to find out what the initial or or name or word or number that they're thinking of is and again there's a million ways to do that i'll show you in a minute how i did it but let's say we're doing a number and we know that their number is 27. so you take the pad out like this you're gonna tear out the top page and you can do it like this so they could see the front of it but once it's torn you're gonna place it back on your pad facing you like this so now that scribble is facing me they can't see it now you grab your pen and you're gonna write the first thing i'm gonna do actually is i'm gonna do this with my nail i'm gonna do this so i'm not actually writing anything down it's just my nail doing this because i want what they see in a second to match what i was doing so it's just mine you're just rubbing your nail crazily then you're gonna write down in dots or little lines a 27 inside this mess so i'm gonna go like this and what that's doing is it's blending in with that mess so you can't really see much of what that is it just looks like a big mess especially if i don't like hold it there so then you're gonna so as soon as you're done that 27 you're gonna crumple it up or fold it and put it on the table cap your pen really set the stage here get rid of this get rid of that you're left with only this this is your framing and you go no there's actually there's a million ways you could do this you can ask them what it was and you could open it up and show them the mess or you could say let me show you what i got and you open this and show them that this giant mess now try to hold it vertically like this so so they can't even slightly see that 27. so i hold it like this and i go was that it or i say boom 27 thank you okay fine this is abstract art i did say i was going to do some art this is abstract art now you take your lighter and prepare for their minds to melt because when i add the heat the scribble is going to go away but the 27 is going to remain so i approach that right there and look at how sweet that looks as everything vanishes except for where it says 27 and you can leave them with this they could take it home it's just a freaking miracle okay now let's talk about how i actually knew the initials that she was thinking of now there's a lot of ways in magic to do that but the technique that i use is something that i really love and it actually puzzled the katarina which gets me really excited because it means we're learning things on the channel that not only really really fool layman but also have experienced magicians scratching their head so i have a more detailed video for this i'll leave a link in the description where you can learn this step by step really slowly but i'll show it to you right now also really quickly for this video to be uh complete for this i'm using blank cards i'll also leave a link to these in the description really not expensive and great for mentalism so basically they've written down a set of initials and that is going into the deck they're putting it themselves and as you spread the cards for them to put it in you open up somewhere and the last card of that spread is being held very loosely by your middle finger and ring finger this is not a tight grip it's very loose like this you spread you open it up they put their card back and you add their card to that loose grip so now i'm holding their card and the card next to it very very loosely with these two fingers then my left hand comes up like this to show them and say remember that and my thumb contacts the next card over so that's their card right there my thumb is hitting this card now on the way down it looks like i'm just gonna lower it and and push their card out or leave it out in fact on the way down these two fingers are gonna pull that card back as my left thumb keeps that one in place so that happens on the way down i pull this back and then all the cards except for the one being held by my thumb go like this and that happens again on the way down and that looks like it's their card but you actually switched it and now i close up with their card staying at the bottom like this but they think that their card is over here then i have them push it in and i go see we'll go somewhere in the middle so i can't know where it is so as i tilt up i see their card right there let me show you what that looks like in real time so you've got the card over there and you say okay remember those initials lock them in your mind and i want you to go ahead and push it in and of course i already have it here at the bottom and i can just tilt and see it secretly and that's how i knew the initials there it was i hope you guys enjoyed that let me know in the comments what you thought of this and how you plan
