through song family favorite chat not just for us but for filipinos here and abroad facebook page excited nakame to give the floor to mikey misalucha and her co-host for the month as she introduces local talents so we can become a more faithful family by hearing him through music bff building forever families [Music] [Music] is [Music] foreign [Music] foreign [Music] good evening friends and welcome to episode 13 of hear him through music brought to you by the church of jesus christ of latter-day saints my name is mikey missalucha nato i swear number 13 the hell this is our family week episode hear him through music family dahil nagin guest and attention before please welcome all the way from cebu jessie ray villain uh hello at the mikey and hello to all the regular viewers of hear him through music jesse and i am so happy to be back in the show i was already so glad when i was invited to be a guest before but i guess go host now so once again thank you for this wonderful opportunity well magenta on feedback and i think everyone will agree with meena bagueka for this special family week episode excited now for your number later well i hope i will let you down pero most excited performance and you kicked it off real well with your opening song official theme song national family week celebration details of philippines and if i'm not mistaken learning missalucia sang that in the very first episode of the show right yes that is right the song is one of the church's contributions as a member of the national committee on the filipino family it was written by another member of the church mondelrosario and originally recorded by grandma lani and this new version was arranged by another member of our here him through music family see heber martinez who was my co-host last episode wow and isn't there another person still with sister lanny's vocals but with the rap bridge you wrote and performed see hebert in banagarange none yes amazing talaga i don't bring again [Music] and they make spending time together as a family looks so fun and cool one of them is a comeback comebacking guest because he performed as a soloist a while back oh yeah i remember sixteen-year-old james who is child number three played the piano and sang peace in christ this time he is joined by the following oldest kuya carl jacob or cj 19 years old who is now currently serving in the philippines legaspi mission second child leia jeremy or lj 18 who is a psychology freshman in byu provo arielle jarrell or aj 14 who is in grade 9 and attends early morning seminary with james and last but not the least is zion job or cj 12 who is the family peacemaker their mom plays the piano and she made sure all her children started learning piano at age seven the kids caught the music bug and moved on to other instruments and eventually formed their own band the family that prays together stays together parasa alva sibling suguru it's the family that makes music together stays together here they are with their fun cover of what family means to me from the 2017 mutual album let's give it up for all this five [Music] [Music] what does family mean does it only need a mom and dad and a couple kids sure that's where it all begins but wedding bands and mortgage loans aren't what make a house a home it's so much more than just the basic things it's all that happens in between road trip driving till the break of dawn off singing to my favorite songs and jumping and yelling chilling my making mistakes then forgiving forgetting and loving no matter what we do we're gonna make it through because it isn't just a box to take forever dreaming bigger than a bank account we'll always have enough to make ends meet means to me it's working hard and giving up the things we want for something more yet so much more making mistakes and forgiving forgetting and what learning means to me that's what family mean to me [Music] if you just joined us this is hear him through music a show produced by the church of jesus christ of latter-day saints featuring youth and ysa singers from all over the country that was elvis 5 from kabul stick with their version of what family means to me i guess it's obvious why they chose the song from the video it looks like they really have fun spending time together as a family you need them making music but esports and of course church activities it's perfect for our celebration of national family week with our theme building forever families and speaking of family i heard your family faced a serious health crisis recently 19 infection and parents knee jesse and they were both hospitalized and they both recovered from the illness and we asked the family if it was okay to share that info and not uttawa naman kamina they agreed to dangerous 19. so let's all get vaccinated and take the utmos it was a little scary because one weekend as a hospital my parents go and then it was just me and my four siblings who were left at the house and at the time news reports and so many social media accounts were posting stuff of how so many people were dying of kovit 19 but we were blessed that a lot of church members uh including our bishop and his wife they brought us home-cooked meals and treats and then after my parents were finally discharged from the hospital uh they had to be quarantined for an additional two weeks so even our steak president and his wife did grocery shopping for us when we couldn't well grab it it's good to know that members of the church minister to you and your family in your hour of need now family week we should also celebrate people who are not related to us by blood but are just like family as well kathleen church family not in the back nam and shampre we also have our church friends who are like family lagging when we need uh when we need help and pero hindi language is a church my friends die so work versus school or neighbors religious affiliation i saw broncos that's right there's a family we are born into and there's a family that we choose because of this kind of family our experience with kobe 19 was not as horrible as it could have been so on behalf of our family marami salamat let's love and support you yes okay so let's move on to our next guest it's missionaries from the philippines with the one mission singing together we often hear of returned missionaries staying close to their companions and co-missionaries even way after their missions in fact the mission president and his wife are always referred to as mission parents that is why i'm excited to go on a mission when i turn 18. my dad would sometimes tell the stories of his mission experiences and kasama in the new lifelong friendships they formed like you said at the mikey foreign family yes and this family of bouton missionaries were directed in this number by their recently released mission mom sister mia san gabriel with with the able support of former bottom one mission president tony san gabriel of course so here they are to sing a medley of missionary songs and to tell us about their mission experience please welcome the missionaries of the philippines [Music] they call me on a mission when i [Music] and am as nationalities [Music] is is [Music] [Music] [Music] salvation victory life [Music] [Applause] [Music] oh [Music] is glory [Music] foreign i'll follow the teachings of jesus [Music] is will be welcome back you are still watching hear him through music a show presented by the church of jesus christ of latter-day saints where we feature undiscovered talents from the youth and young single adult members of the church we just watched missionaries from the philippines with one mission perform a medley of missionary songs and i remember singing some of those back when i was in primary i enjoyed the part where they described their mission experience again full-time missionary yes end of 2022 so gold i will go i will serve campaign to have four thousand six hundred filipino missionaries serving in the country incase i think self-reliance as a country in terms of missionary work 19. speaking of going home siguro some of the missionaries in the video we just played are already home from their missions shout out to you guys and congratulations for returning home with honor one of the reasons why i want to visit the missionary are the stories shared by returning missionaries about how wonderful it is in the field best 2 years or 18 months for the sisters next guest missionary just like your dad jesse brother craig whiting served in the philippines baccalaureate mission from 1997 to 1999 and he simply fell in love with the country and the culture he shared this love with his family and coupled with their love of music they formed the group torch family music if you are on social media like everyone else which has been viewed more than 11 million times across different platforms they did a cover of p-pop boy group's sb19s mapa and it's blowing up that is right the video featured the wedding siblings sunny hannah chloe bell zoe and rock tapasya the musicality of their version and the awesome music video was really touched you know really touched a lot of hearts with their parents craig and stephanie we are so proud to present to you the torch family singers [Music] is is foreign [Music] is [Music] this is the family week special of hear him through music and you just watched a beautiful rendition of families can be together forever by our special guests torch family music let's get to know them better hi everyone thank you so much for being with us today i am mikey and this is my co-host jessie will you guys please introduce yourselves and tell us your age yeah so i'm craig whiting i am the father and i help teach tagalog to the children i'm stephanie and i help to manage the group and we have a lot of fun together my name is sunny i'm the oldest of the six siblings i'm 20 years old i'm currently studying at byu and i'm studying commercial music which is audio production and songwriting and basically working in the recording studio and and all everything that goes into that and so i do a lot of the audio production for our group i'm hannah i'm 19 and i have always loved cameras and so i kind of do some video stuff for our group um and help out with that so that's something i enjoy um i'm chloe and i'm 17 and i love musical theater uh singing dancing and acting and i'm also kind of the soprano of the group like the highest note usually if you hear the heist note that's me and uh yeah and i kind of help with cleaning some of the dancing and working with that too so yeah i'm belle and i'm 15. i love to do art and i've always loved crafts and art and so something i do for the group is help pick out outfits and things like that for our music videos i'm zoe i'm 12. and i love playing soccer um something i didn't help i guess i just i'm there to support and i oh it's cute she sings and her voice is really good we all sing but yeah and i'm rock and i'm nine and i he shows up eats the food yeah there's football so so nice to meet you guys can you tell us how torch family music started and why did you choose that name for the group yeah so we just loved to sing together as kids and we played piano and guitar lessons and then we decided that um as we were singing that we loved doing this together and so then we just started it started from there and around two a few years ago we started our youtube channel and we just started putting music on there because we love to sing together and we wanted to share uplifting messages and we chose the name torch family music because torch we chose um stands for the light of christ this is a scripture that we that we have you might have seen on some of our social media channels it's matthew 5 and it's matthew 5 14-16 and this is kind of why we picked the name torch i'm going to read it for you you're the light of the world a city that is set on a hill cannot be hid neither do men light a candle and put it under a bushel but on a candlestick and it giveth light unto all that are in the house yea let your light so shine before men that they may see your good works and glorify your father which is in heaven so we love that part that says that they may see your good works and glorify our father which is in heaven we feel like we've been gifted with the gift of music as a family that we have to share to help people to see jesus christ and so we this is kind of our theme scripture that we use and why we called ourselves torch was because we want to be that light on the hill to help others see jesus christ throughout the music that we share i love that scripture about letting our light shine that explains the name of the group really really well what made you guys decide to cover a tagalog song or what made you guys decide to cover tagalog songs we we love the philippines and my dad served a mission for the church of jesus christ of latter-day saints there and so uh we felt like we we loved the filipino people and we wanted to share that through tagalog and uh it was definitely kind of hard right you want to share it what was it like for you rock this is it mapa was his first time singing pokemon yes um it was really hard to like figure out the words yeah and yeah this is different than in english one time we were driving home and i heard rock just seeing you still over and over again so you could remember the words and like you got it down english is actually my main language so i understand the struggle with tagalog so aside from producing music what else is family into so something that we support in the philippines is education for disadvantaged or poor filipino youth and we have a foundation called believe international.org and it is an organization that provides scholarship money to filipinos children that are poor and struggling to gain an education they're very smart students they all have really high gpas and really their grade point average is really high but they just don't have the money to attain an education so so my parents or their their grandparents served as missionaries in the san pablo mission many years ago and that's when my parents decided to form that foundation believe international and so you can learn more about it by going to believe international.org and especially if you can help donate to that cause it is excellent to to help with education there in the philippines and i got to write a theme album for the organization and to so that they can have some theme music and we got to tour out in the philippines last february 2020 right before covet and we got to perform that album at the school's different school assemblies sponsored by believes so it's a cool experience so it really is a music ministry i love how you not only hear him through music but you are also using music to help others come unto him so what do you see ahead of torch family music and please um share your future plans with us yeah i think we want to continue music specifically more tagalog songs um we hope to be able to go back to the philippines and um tour around doing firesides and other school assemblies but also possibly doing some music camps we've done some music camps here and we'd love to bring them to the performance workshops for kids yeah yeah and really we want to just continue to spread positive messages that bring people unto christ on social media and that's been our goal for since the beginning to be able to share positive messages about jesus christ we would love to meet you in person when this pandemic is over aside from what you've already mentioned what else do you find memorable about your trip to the philippines i really loved meeting the people there and seeing the cold culture and i really felt welcomed as i visited the people and i really felt the spirit and the way that they acted towards us i was so happy there's so much love there i just like was overflowing wow no wonder the philippines is close to your heart but before we let you guys go do you have any other messages to our audience especially those who have been viewing and sharing your videos thank you so much we really appreciate your love and support we want to thank sb19 as well for allowing us to share this video they they produced such a positive
