very well thank you well we are happy that you are here with us tonight as you know filipinos celebrate national family week every year during the month of september filipinos like koreans are very family oriented you've been here for quite some time what can you say are some of the characteristics that koreans and filipinos share when it comes to family values well this is our previous and honor to share our family history with you as you mentioned filipinos and koreans have very similar culture regarding the value of family it is always upfront in our lives we are learning a lot from filipinos about how to support a family and how to love and care for family so we are so happy to be here that's that's amazing we hope you also found a family in filipino saints elder and sister che we're excited to learn more about your story and how you breed your family through family history we've invited you tonight because we found out about your special collection of family records a total of 10 volumes spanning 32 generations that's amazing can you tell us when it started and how the book came to be one of the great cultures we have in korea is keeping our family records we keep the information of our ancestors there are approximately 270 family names in korea and each family has kept its own family records over a thousand years the chair family has kept it too there's a chair family record association which has kept the records this association is supported by the fund paid by many chair families we are proud of our leaders as we share the names stories and wisdom of our ancestors we saw earlier on the screen how well put together it was how did your family manage to preserve the records and put them together to last this long after we joined the church in 1973 my father who was 49 years old then developed a sincere desire to find the family records he went to the chair family association and purchased whole family records that time later he became the core resource of our family history work i can tell them my father was inspired like lehigh who took his family to the promised land with the family records my father gave me these books before he passed and i have kept this record since then his family records our family treasure because we were able to engage in family history work as you look at the back we still keep i always carry on these family history books and also if you look at the inside some of the books this stick and he i can show my my my line here where is my uh my names and all the all of my family names here and it is a great privilege to be able to get i don't know i cannot i'm sorry i cannot find the case okay so this part is in our own family and the yellow you know color pull out you know the direct line it goes back my line here my line here to smile i'm here to go here this is my line this 32nd line this is my name yes so the second generation is not what does your family do to keep the records updated we send the information about the changes in our family to the chair family association and the association updates the information adding new names of the family members birthday marriage education etc any chair family member can access this family records from the chair family association if we want to keep the physical copies of the family history book or cd we can purchase from the che family association now i have family records updated with the information of our children how has keeping your family records best you individually and as a family i cannot express how much we have been blessed with these family records one of the impacts of our family conversion was that we learned how the church values family it was amazing for us to learn that god is affair and he cares even for the deceased ancestors of the family because of the family records we have it was easy to do family history work it didn't take a long time for my father to do the work for eight generations i learned from my father how to do the family history work and i could finish the direct line of my ancestors for up to the 32 generations now i am doing the work for the branches of the family and thousands of new souls receive the temple audiences through this effort can you guess what that means to our chair family it's a privilege for us to be engaged with our precious ancestors we feel that they are not far from us they appreciate us for the work of their salvation and they also want to help us in many ways on the other side of the it was not possible to do the precious work for the many souls in my family without the family records i testify that family history work is not a burden but a special blessing from our heavenly father for us to connect to our loving forefathers what advice can you give to the people watching us right now and would like to start keeping their own family records you might say that elder chess family is very lucky since they have family records already yes you're right but i want you to understand that someone should start recording your family you can study now otherwise you and your children your grandchildren and more of your descendants would not have the blessings of family history work at all it is not too late to start search the names of your ancestors and write the names and history of your current family it will bring the blessing of heaven as you begin this work the church has amazing family history acts that keep our family records in various ways for our convenience just do your best to find the names and pray for help you will be amazed by the spirit of eliza leading the way to help you find the names when you take the names you found to the temple for their ordinances you will experience a joy that is beyond words we hope you were inspired by the story shared by elder and sister che and their efforts to bridge their families through family history mafa bff hello i can't wait to start updating our own records chess i wish we could be as good as elder and sister chair i'm excited to teach your daughters to keep records as early as now don't worry zen after the break elder and sister chell will share with us how individuals and families can keep their records using an amazing app by family search that's up next bff building forever families [Music] welcome back for day two of our national family week celebration if you're watching this episode let us know where you are from use the hashtags hashtag nationalfamilyweek2021 and hashtag buildingforeverfamilies or hashtag bff i'm sure nato among a viewer snapping zen let us welcome back our guests for tonight elder and sister say thank you during our interview earlier we talked about how we should do our part in keeping our personal and family histories so the future generations will know us just like us knowing our ancestors if we have family records going back 32 generations the next 32 generations should keep their records so we will have a quarter of 64 generations we hope everybody who's watching us right now will be inspired to start their own family book you are very lucky because we live in a digital era it is very easy for the writing generation to create records and to update them the church has provided online resources to help us preserve our memories quickly and effectively that's right in fact earlier today three of our area leaders posted their videos featuring the memories app by family search we thought we could share them with you [Music] hi my name is tina concepcion i love writing stories and taking pictures very recently i came across a wonderful mobile app that i know and i believe will help me and my passion for writing and keeping memories it's called the family search memories mobile app it's going to be very helpful because you know we never can tell when an experience will come about and that experience is something that is worth writing down or keeping for our posterity so let me share with you what i did when i use the family search memories mobile app and so do you see the plus button at the lower right hand corner let's stop that and we will write a story so my story is about the children in our farm and now it's time to add a photo so let's go to my camera roll and choose one photo that i really love and i will save it now let's save the story i hope you will try it it will really make a big difference in your keeping your memories alive so i'm trying to make this project for our family can you help me out do you have your phone with you of course i have it with me all the time okay now do you have the memories app downloaded um memories app is just the same as family tree app the memory is up also by family search allows you to record stories post photos upload documents and add and record audio files what do i need to do after you have downloaded the memories app from the app store or play store open it and click the plus sign you can explore those features later but since i've been telling you stories it would be best to select audiences so if i save a voice recording on my phone or laptop i can just click my files yes now you got it to help you remember certain memories the app suggests guide questions to choose from i can just tap begin recording exactly tap start record a memory tap done enter a title and tap ok wow this is so much easier than trying to write everything down it is but that's only one of the many features of this app hello my beloved brothers and sisters this is elder mordeja and i'm happy to celebrate national family week with you but did you know that there's a mobile app that makes adding your family memories to familysearch.org easier and more convenient than ever i'm going to click this plus sign after clicking the plus sign you will be asked whether you want to add photo record and audio write a story or a document so let's say i want to include this in my photo i'm going to save it and there you are it's already stored in my photo memories so i'm going to put the title of the photo i could write the description [Music] one of the great things about the memories app is that as long as you're connected to the internet it instantly and automatically adds the new information to familysearch.org if you aren't connected to the internet the changes will be added the next time you connect upload your memories now this is one way for us to help in bff or building forever families wishing you all a joyous inspiring and blissful experiences as you store your precious photos documents stories and audio clips using family search memories up i love how easy it is to capture new or old family photos as well as heirloom documents and audio stories i know i can have it anywhere as long as i have my phone tablet or laptop how about you sister che i like how the church of jesus christ of latter-day saints provides family search free of charge to everyone regardless of tradition culture or religious affiliation family search resources help millions of people around the world discover their heritage and connect with family members that's true it really is accessible and exclusive elder say how do you incorporate the use of the memories app in your record-keeping efforts i have started writing a short record of the lives of my parents and i added their picture when i finished theirs i wrote another short memory of my grandparents and also added their picture i the same thing for my siblings i did not take a long time to do that i did it little by little i write memory memorable moments of my current family and add pictures it is like my portal album with a short note this is not fancy but it is as simple as you posting a picture on facebook you may use it in different way but this is now this is how i use memories app you can tell how simple i am right what an incredible blessing and aside from preserving family pictures and stories family history can be a source of inspiration joy healing clarity empathy and peace before we end our program we'd like to invite sister che and elder che to share their testimonies with us well one day i met sister nelson at a luncheon when i went to the general conference she asked me how i was doing and i told her that i was doing fine except for one thing i said that one of my sons did not want to go to the church because it wasn't fun for him to attend the church meetings as soon as she heard about my challenge she said to me ask one of your ancestors to help you there was an eye-opening moment for me to think that our ancestors want to help us and they are not far from us immediately i pictured my mother my father my father-in-law my brother and my sister who passed away i called them up and asked for their help for my son i am happy to share my testimony that their help worked on my challenge while asking for their help i started thinking about what i could do for them i decided to write a history about them that's how i was engaged tighter with family history work family history work had seemed too difficult for me to do before i started so i started writing short records of each one of my family members i made the goal to do that once a week but it wasn't easy to do that every week later i set a schedule for one or two hours each week to write the memories i could not write it along a lot each time sometimes i could write only two lines some other times i could do little more [Music] special blessing to do that is that i felt love in my heart towards the family members i wrote about i felt it indeed this work is given to us to have joy by supporting each other on either side of the way the time will come when we meet a big family recognizing them like we've known them and living with them for a long time thank you sister che my dear brothers and sisters having family history work is a great blessing and leads us to be closer to our ancestors i know that the lord provides the connection between ancestors and us that we can understand the will of our heavenly father he provides the way to be with him someday and live together with our loving family members including ancestors through family history work i am grateful for that the lord provides the family so that we can feel love of god as we put our effort to do family history work we'll have real joy and feel the love of god in the family i testify that heavenly father loves us and guides us to be with him someday with our loving family members as we do our best to do in all possible ways that he provides us we are able to live with our eternal family forever may the lord continue to be bless you and your family the family history work leads us to be united together and forever in the name of jesus christ amen amen [Music] thank you elder
