Basic Title Tutorial - Apple Motion 5

[Music] hello everyone and welcome back to black ops media uh today's tutorial it's gonna be a very simple one this is the basic motion project that you can do what we're going to do is we're going to create a basic title very simple to do shouldn't take us that long but what i'm going to do is i'm going to show you how by creating a project in motion it's automatically saved as a template into final cut pro uh it's one of the great things about motion is you you're creating templates to go right into final cut so let's get started we're going to go right here into motion so we'll open that up and what we're going to do is we're actually going to start with a final cut title so we'll do a quick title should only probably be about five seconds long so we'll change that to five seconds we'll keep it at 27.97 at 1080 just for the purposes of this demonstration if you're going to build a title of your own you can change it to whichever you'd like so what we're going to do here is we are going to open this up and brings it into the workspace for motion like i said we're just going to do the very basic of titles so we got our first group here and what i like to do you can see in the hud here different options that you're going to be able to change here but what i like to do when i start a project is i'm going to start a new group here and we're gonna go into the group and we're gonna put our text layer and okay so we start here see we have the text layer and you actually put text in a lot of different ways what i like to do is i will go down here choose text click on the main board here and we will call this [Music] title oops title okay what i'll do is switch back over to my pointer here let's oops grab the wrong thing there you make a mistake you can always use command z you'll go back one step just like any other apple program so what i'm going to do is i'm going to grab this here let's center this okay and then what we can do is we can go over here into the inspector [Music] we can let's change our font so what do you say we go down i like the helvetica fonts so way down very helvetica [Music] actually helvetica nouveau i'm going to use okay and we will go here we will change it for regular let's go with the ultra light on this nice thin title yeah i don't want the italic on it this here is going to be quite small so what we'll do is [Music] let's increase the size [Music] oops actually what i need to do is center it then increase the size okay let's recenter it here [Music] there it is okay so what we got here just basic title uh you see we get a little fancy here so let's go over here into the profit not properties um go over to the library let's check out the library and okay in the library we will go to behaviors and what we have here is we have text animation okay down here we can do these are the different text animations or we can do a text sequence so let's go with sequence okay so basic let's do an arrangement and the easiest way to do that is grab the arrange in drag it over your title and release okay so now that's dragged in and you'll see here we have our title text and we have how it arranges in and if you drag the scrubber here bring it along you'll see how it comes in so what we got to do is since we have the lead in or arranging i should say we had to do a range out let's grab the arrange out you can do it like this you just drag it onto the title [Music] like so but what it does here is it puts it at the beginning and we don't want that because i think that's going to mess everything up yeah see how it messes it up there very easy to do just highlight click on it but to highlight it and then drag it to the end so we have a basic title here we're back at the beginning here let's click the play [Music] oops actually i did it wrong so let's command z i put the arrange in at the end oops so we put a range out down back here teach me to pay attention to what i'm doing so as the title comes in it's going to be blank we click on the play comes in and then goes out okay so what we're going to do is we're going to come up here to file i'm going to do publish template we're going to call this a basic title okay and these are the categories in final cut pro over here so let's pick one that we're going to save it in or we could create a new category let's call [Music] this [Music] tutorials [Music] we'll create that one and the theme is going to be call it basic title okay you can include your unused media i usually don't do that [Music] but what i'll do is i'll save a preview movie and i'll publish as a final cut generator so we do is we click publish and that's it that's how quick it's created [Music] so in order to find your file that you just saved so we go over here into movies we go into motion templates and because i saved it as a generator it'll be in generators testing it's a basic title basic title and here we go so if i click on this [Music] dot mov file there's a little the title that we made okay so that's pretty good you can actually save your motion projects as a video file so that you can use them within your videos but one of the things that's i like the most with this with motion is we can actually go let's go over and we'll open final cut pro okay so we have video that this is the last tutorial that i put up okay then what we can do is we go over here into generators okay and as you can see we got testing right here okay basic title [Music] we take that we drop it on top of the movie okay maybe not there this is gonna be hard to see we'll put it here okay and then we could click the play there's the title that we just did but that's not all what we can do is we can actually click on the file or the the generator to there okay come up here we click on the text we can actually change it ooh blackout where did that come from oh you got to be careful with that what it does is it will auto correct if you're not paying attention so go here you can change the text you can come down here you can actually if you don't like the text that's set up in it you can change the text i mean not the text the font you can change the font you can change its size okay you do you know change all of the the text properties you can actually animate you can scale you have all the functionality you can actually change it to 3d text you see it bubbles up a little bit there you can actually change the lighting well actually that's with 3d text let's get rid of the 3d text you can change its color let's say we switch it over here to a dark red there we go okay add outlines grows and what what have you you can actually go into the composite compositing yeah easy for me to say and we could change the crop on it so you can actually change how it comes in by using keyframes so there's a lot of functionality using a basic title uh like i said this is the easiest one to do and it's probably the one that you you're probably gonna use this the most uh as you can see it only took a couple of seconds to do really easy to use you can use it in final cut pro or you can save it as a video and this actually is small but you can stretch it out here let's take a look at it again okay [Music] this is one of the the benefits of motion it it uses it's so useful for any type of special effects you want to put a lower thirds and all of that stuff it's so nice to use it may it's it saves so much time just the way that you build it in motion and it goes right over to final cut pro but anyway but that'll be the end of this tutorial i hope that it
