hello my friends and welcome back to my channel when you play Baldur's Gate 3 on an only TV like the LG G2 then there are actually just two very important questions first of all do we have any HDR Black Level race in this game and second of all and I think the even more important question is what character class should you use so unfortunately I can't help you with the character class because I'm still struggling on my own because I started a game with a sorcerer and I'm not quite sure if I'm happy about that so maybe I'm starting again but what I can answer is all the questions around HDR okay so now before we talking about HDR before we go into more detail let me explain or let me talk about a couple of things so first of all most of the footage what you're going to see is recorded through this camera that means you may or may not see some black level crush or clipping and specular highlights that's not because of the game that's not because of the TV TV and that's also not because of my recommended settings that's because of the camera the camera is not able to capture all the fine details on the screen okay so that's not possible unfortunately but I found it's still the best way to actually film everything off my TV the LG G2 because we are going to use this tool here lilium's HDR analyze tool which is working just perfectly with the PC version of balder scale 3 and yeah of course I made sure that my recommended settings are fitting the LG G2 perfectly and of course also the LG CX I have to admit I haven't tried the game on my s95c so far the reason is because yeah my gaming PC is here in the office connected to the LG G2 and I was just too lazy to connect it to the s95c but I have very good news with my recommended settings HDR is really really great it's just a question how much better it is on the s95c because s95c brighter better colors better panel uniformity LG G2 great TV but s95c better okay and I would say we're starting straight away and we're going to answer the question does Baldo Skate 3 supports the HDR calibration tool under Windows 11 and the answer is quite simple no it does not because we have actually very nice HDR settings in the game so that means whatever you set up here is not affecting the game at all okay so let's talk about the HDR calibration settings what we have in baldos Gate 3 and we're starting with the first screen the adjust Peak brightness setting and I have to save when you use an OLED TV with HG enabled and you follow the instruction this is very accurate and you end up with the exact Peak brightness what you need for your TV and on the next screen we have the brightness setting and we have the contrast setting and I have to admit that I'm not quite sure anymore what was the factory or the standard setting from the brightness setting when you start the game for the very first time but I think it was something around 100 but I'm not quite sure anymore maybe you can put this in the comment section I'm very sure contrast was or is always 1.0 when we're talking about standard from factory settings and I have to say those two settings are actually very very important in the game and yeah actually even more important is the contrast setting because if we wouldn't have this the gain would actually look very washed out okay so let's talk about HDR Black Level race which is unfortunately present in this game as in many other games but I have to say it's not that annoying as in your games like let's say cyberpunk but still present as you can see on the screen right now we are very far away from having a perfect black level floor so even when we're doing this here we're going to this closed door and we're just looking actually on the opposite side and we would actually expect perfect a perfect black level floor but you can see the Black Level floor is actually crazily elevated so let me actually disabling the Hut and this is something which is very interesting you can see um it's still the same in terms of the Black Level floor blood but if you look very closely when I'm enabling the Hut again can you see what is happening actually the game is able to Output perfect black level floor even with HDR enabled just the game itself as many other games are showing raised blacks and this is something what I can't understand because as I have shown you or as you can see right now the game is more than able to actually output a perfect HDR black leather floor adjust with the huts and disabled actually you can see how terrible it is I mean don't get me wrong 0.05 roughly 0.05 nits is still not too bad compared to other games but it's still elevated and you will see it in a complete dark room but the fact that when you enable or when you look at the your black level floor from the Hut you can clearly see the gate is capable of doing or having no problems with raised black levels so what's going on here I don't know this is such just something what is really really weird because I would like to have a perfect black level floor without changing any setting okay so now we know the game in theory is actually able to Output perfect HDR Black Level floor so what is very important to consider is that we have actually a setting called contrast which helps a lot when it comes to the Black Level floor so the standard setting is 1.00 which I I I personally don't like it all because the whole picture looks very very washed out so we just keep this at the moment and what I'm doing here right now just have a look where my cursor is at the moment and let's have a look here cursor CLL have a look here this is right now um showing what is the expected brightness where the cursor is and then you can see I'm moving the cursor around where it is brighter you can see it's actually changing so right now 0.06 knits is expected where the cursor is so this is far away from perfect HDR Black Level floor so let's see what is actually happening when we increasing contrast to 1.5 0 which of course unfortunately is not really nice to play with but can you see now what we're talking about here cursor CLL 0.000636 knits this is very very close to perfect black level I mean to be very honest it's almost not visible anymore when you're not playing in a complete dark room and if you now think that contrast 1.5 0 is a good value to play the game with to have yeah almost no HD jump like level race then I have to say unfortunately no or at least I don't like it maybe you like it but what I found is the colors are very oversaturated and when I analyze the colors actually I found that you lose some color information because it's just so oversaturated so but what is now the correct value in terms of contrast and this is very hard to recommend because first of all it's absolutely up to you what you like more maybe you like to have a little bit of a very over over saturated picture maybe you like to have a little bit of a washed out picture the only thing what I can tell you 1.5 0 gives you the best in terms of the Black Level floor but what if if we now changing this to let's say 1.25 which spoiler alert I'm actually using when I'm playing this game and what we can see here right now when I'm activating my cursor is that we're talking about are yeah a black level flow of 0.006 nits right now and if I remember correctly then we set contrast to 1.0 then we have actually a black level floor of 0.06 so you can see this is a huge Improvement and in terms of your oversaturated colors this looks pretty amazing in my opinion and as you may noticed and I will show you this in a second actually when we're talking about colors because this is something what we need to do contrast setting to 1.25 has also an advantage when we talk about colors okay my friends so let's talk about colors because we haven't done this in any of my videos actually as far as I can remember so and of course colors are very important and when we looking at this example here at the moment it actually looks really really good but when we looking closer and maybe using the analyze tool you can actually see that right now which just using bt709 almost just bt709 which is SDR color just 2.2 percent right now is actually used from DCI P3 and almost nothing or let's say nothing from the BT 2020 so let me just quickly turn the color space map on because then you can see this a little bit better what I'm talking about so when we're talking about SDR color everything is gray or black okay so all the colors what you can see on the screen which are appearing bluish is DCI P3 and if you would see some yellowish stuff then this would be BT 2020 okay so at the moment you can see there is no BT 2020 and there's also almost no blue and the fire here so this means it's just SDR color so what I found is and this is also very interesting when we're changing the contrast setting and again standard setting is 1.00 but if we increasing this let's say to 1.25 you can actually see it already on this screen what is happening we're gaining actually more color space more color volume and I don't know if this is the right word but beginning for sure instead of SDR color we're getting finally or we're getting suddenly dcip DC ip3 color so let's say we're increasing this to 1.25 and we're just accepting and going out you can see what is going on now and the thing is no please stay where I like you you stay here now we have actually here really BT 2020 going on and when you look closely you can actually see that the colors are um fading or actually uh animated that means the whole Blend or whatever this is here restoration blend shows actually different colors all the time but this is just visible when we changing the contrast setting okay and now let's talk about the maximum Peak brightness when you set up everything as you like it and right now as you can see maximum CLL on the your left hand corner is actually a 1082 knits this is pretty accurate I mean maybe a little bit too much for the LG G2 but I mean look at the picture at the moment this looks amazing in terms of contrast in terms of Maximum Peak brightness in terms of colors everything so let me show you something because it is actually very important that we changing or setting the yeah this screen here in the correct way and I explained this already please just follow the instruction you're good to go and it is actually very important that we changing brightness and of course contrast at some point but the brightness setting is unfortunately also affecting the maximum Peak brightness this in this game as you can see here right now the maximum Peak brightness with setting brightness to 80 is just 590 nits when we increasing this it actually goes up to 1082 so what I found is that at some point and I will find this point that's here 150 nits or the setting 150 is actually the value of what you should have at least to make sure that the maximum Peak brightness will be reached because below 150 you can see a maximum Peak brightness is declining and you don't want to have this okay my friends and now it's time to talk about my recommended settings for Baldur's Gate 3 and I apologize that I'm not showing anything else in the game just the very beginning here but I really don't want to spoiler too much and when it comes to HDR I have to say the very beginning was actually quite impressive because you have a lot of yeah very great HDR effects like this here and you can test easily if there's any HDR Black Level race but now let's talk about my recommended settings and yeah I'll be starting with the first screen and the first screen is actually quite simple just follow the instruction until you barely can't see the symbol anymore but my recommendation of course is if you can enable HGH and then follow the instruction because with hehehe enabled and you set the symbol to barely visible you will have exactly the maximum Peak brightness of your TV if you follow a very simple rule and the rule is actually quite simple so on the next screen on the second screen make sure brightness is set to minimum 158 because I showed you if you go below this value then you will lose maximum Peak brightness that means the value what you have set up in the first screen is not displayed on the screen anymore but in terms of your maximum brightness that's absolutely up to you because it will will just clip out at the maximum Peak brightness what you have set on the first screen so no worries at all so my recommendation is actually a value between 200 and 250 what I found is pretty good for my lgcx and the LG G2 again I haven't tried this game on the s95c but I would actually say that maybe a brightness around 200 is 40 s95c more than enough because the s95c is brighter than the LG G2 and last but not least we have the contrast setting and what I found is that yeah contrast set to 1.00 which is the standard factory setting I don't like it at all my recommendation is really set it to 1.25 to have a much better HDR Black Level floor to have much better colors you can even increase this but at some point it's just too much because you have a very oversaturated picture at some point so my recommendation is 1.25 because yeah with all together I think it is just a great picture and if you now like to have no HDR Black Level Rays at all so first of all make sure that you turn on vrr so this is just disabled to make sure that vrr is actually not making or causing any flickering on my camera but you have to enable it to use the fine tune dark area setting and with contrast set to 1.25 you just need to change the fine tune dark area setting to -4 to have absolute a perfect HDR Black Level floor okay so now let's talk about HGH Dynamic tone mapping off and dynamic tone mapping off and as in many other games there's no point actually to use Dynamic tone mapping off because if you would use this then you would have a lot of yeah missing information actually in specular highlights it's very hard to show here at the moment but hch or dynamic tone mapping on that's actually the real question and if you ask me I really do like HGH in this game so I'm not quite sure if my camera actually is capable of showing the real brightness at the moment so if it does look too dark on your screen at the moment that's because of my camera hcag is more than bright at this very moment to play this game and of course I'm playing in a very very dark room but that's how you should enjoy HDR content anyway but no problem at all if you like to have or if you like to use ceramic tone mapping on just go for it just keep in mind that Dynamic tone mapping on is changing the picture brightness all the time which can lead to a lot of clipping and specular highlights that's why my recommendation is for balder Skate 3 use hcag okay my friends so that's it for this video I say thank you very much for watching me and yeah my final conclusion or summary is actually this game is great and yeah I have to start again because I I think I will start again because I don't want to continue with playing with this character I'm not happy but to be very honest I don't know what to choose I I actually like magic in games but it's overwhelming how much stuff you actually have and um I played Divinity original sin Origins original sin I think that's a top yeah that's the name and I found this game much easier than this one to be very honest so even the the lowest uh difficult or the easiest difficult it is really really hard in my opinion so maybe I'm doing something completely wrong but that's that's my impression but anyway this is a great game and in my opinion My Most Wanted or actually my my favorite of game of the year I mean we have a couple of games like probably not Game of the Year my my game of the year but not in real because we have said that we have star field coming in and many other games you know so anyway I'm I'm happy about this game I'm happy how HDR is actually integrated in this game it looks fantastic with my recommended settings I I'm just very very happy my 4080 finally can show what yeah how much power it has actually because I was missing this a little bit but anyway this is just fantastic so if you like HDR in this game put in the comment section what you think about my recommended settings if you have a different opinion then put your settings in the yeah in the comment section I will test it out and maybe yours are better because again I tested the game on the LG G2 again not on the s95c and also not on the CX but between LG G2 and LG CX there's not much of a difference just brightness actually so that means I'm not expecting anything in terms of colors or whatsoever but I'm looking forward to test this game on the s95c because as you have seen we have actually some colors well the color space is going into the BT 2020 a very low BT 2020 of course so the LG G2 should be probably there shouldn't be probably a big difference but I'm looking forward to this because we know that when we have very very bright colors on the TV the LG OLED TVs are struggling and the yeah the QD OLED TVs from Samsung the s95c or s95b they're having actually a big advantage over the LG anyway so that's enough for this video I said thank you very much and if you're new to my channel you know the drill please like share and subscribe and I see you guys next time bye
