Armour Penetration Analysis on Bugs! | Helldivers 2 Weapons Guide

welcome hell divers in this video I'm analyzing the armor on various bugs testing a few select weapons to help build a picture of how this mechanic Works in game first up is The Brood Commander there are a few reasons why it's important to bring them down quickly the charger hat can do a significant amount of damage if you don't get out the way of it it can also call in additional bugs to help defend it and those bugs can potentially release pheromones to bring in even more in a bug reach that's a lot of potential enemies for just one brood Commander the ar23 with its light armor penetration is going to give us a baseline this is for not just where the armor is but what type it is also head hits showed this white X this means it's dealing reduced damage as it's penetrating through armor this is light armor on the head of the brood Commander the legs have no armor this red X appearing showing that it is full damage being dealt on various leg hits the main body of The Brood Commander has light armor this goes for the underbelly and the back the ar23 takes 17 head shots to bring down the brood Commander at 55 damage per shot that is 935 damage out the AR 23p has medium armor penetrating rounds this allows it to break through the light armor the Red X showing that it's dealing full damage per HIIT it only takes eight head shot to bring it down at 45 damage per shot for a total of 360 damage based on this damage range we know that the head takes somewhere in the region of 316 to 360 damage to Kill The Brood Commander the ar23 non-penetrating version has lost around 575 damage due to that armor this is almost exactly 60% of the total damage dealt I also ran these tests with two popular shotguns the SG 225 breaker and the SG 8s Slugger both have light armor penetration but they interact differently compared to the rifle and even each other the breaker dealing full damage on The Brood Commander's underbelly even though it has light armor there the head armor will still count low as we can see this white X reducing the damage de it takes three shots at 330 damage per shot to bring it down that's 990 to kill it once again that is around 60% of the damage reduced by that armor the Slugger ignores the light armor on the head dealing full damage even though it only has light armor penetration in the description It Only Takes Two Shots at 280 damage per hit to kill it that matches up with the range of 316 to 360 from the AR 23p tests spreading hits across multiple different zones of the target will consume more ammo the Slugger only takes two head shot to Kill The Brood Commander yet in this example the body is hit three times with another three hits on the legs yet it still requires two head shots to remove it weapons with stagger such as the Slugger can also interrupt enemy actions preventing them calling in a bug breach or performing actions such as a brood Commander trying to call in additional reinforcements breaking down and comparing the numbers it appears that the light armor on The Brood Commander reduces damage by about 60% weapons that penetrate light armor will deal full damage saving not just ammo but it will also decrease the time to kill on these types of enemies with the ar23 non-penetrating version in use it's clear that the hive guard has medium armor on its head and the front part of its legs the ammo deflection symbol appearing for no damage being dealt the main body of the hive guard has light armor and the fleshy parts of the legs have got no armor at all killing a hive guard only using the ar23 is quite a challenge many shots can hit the armor or terrain as there is only a small area to aim for when face to face this example requires 23 hits to kill the hive guard with nine of them being wasted on Armor or terrain comparing this with the AR 23p it is dealing reduced damage but it is penetrating through that Medium armor when shooting through the head armor it takes 13 shots to bring down the target taking some time to aim and deal full damage to the body in this example it's 17 shots with six out of the 17 still hitting armor for reduced damage the breaker shotgun won't penetrate through the medium armor on a hive guard but due to the pellet spread it can still take them down quite effectively allbe at the cost of extra ammo the Slugger on the other hand can break through the armor for reduced damage it is just three head shot to bring it down Hive guards will disrupt weapons that can't penetrate through their armor potentially forcing the player to reposition or use a different type of weapon medium armor penetrating weapons can instead keep firing pretty much ignoring the fact that the hive guard is in the group removing the need to reposition or disrupt your flow the nursing spew is a dangerous enemy with a deadly spit attack if not dodged the top of their body is covered with light armor and the side sacks have got no armor at all all of the legs have also got light armor on them and unfortunately for our light armor penetrated weapons the head has also got light armor which is going to reduce the damage on those shots this includes direct hits to the mouth which are also impacted the ar23 nonp version will take 16 shots to bring down the Nur in spew that's a total of 880 damage the penetrating version only takes eight shots and 360 damage de this puts the Lost damage to armor at around 520 again about 60% of the total there is a huge difference between shooting at the head or shooting at the side of the nursing spewer the AR 23p when shooting at the side uses about a magazine and a half that's 45 ammo compared to eight when shooting at the head the breaker shotgun will also have its damage reduced by that light armor on the head it takes three shots for a total of 990 damage once again that's about 60% damage reduction because of the light armor the Slugger just like The Brood Commander test breaks through that light armor though it only takes two shots to bring the Target down a big takeaway is that the S shot kills will consume a huge amount more ammo when in game this is absolutely obvious but the numbers show just how big a difference it is the the BIOS spewers function very similar to the nursing spewer but it can also fire shots into the air like a mortar that can potentially kill you at range the major difference though is that it is better armored and has a larger Health pool medium armor runs along the back spine area of the target the front legs have medium armor when face on the back legs only have light armor though the side has got no armor at all but just like the nursing spew this area takes a considerable amount of damage before killing the target the head is also covered in medium armor this can be a massive problem for light armor penetrating weapons you can still shoot in the mouth for full damage to the head but this is easier said than done especially in pressure situations bios spewers can be a complete nightmare if you're relying on those light armor penetrating weapons to bring them down in these situations you're probably better off using your support weapon or a grenade instead if you are forced to shoot at the sides it will consume a huge amount of ammo the AR 23 nonp using nearly two entire magazines that's approximately 86 shots and 4,740 damage to bring it down the AR 23p can penetrate that head armor though providing a larger Target to hit and at safer distances it consumes just over half the magazine 18 shots to kill the breaker shotgun also fails to penetrate the head armor but due to the pet spread high damage and quick rate of fire it performs quite well at close range R of mouth hits consistency is the main issue with the percentage of those shots deflecting off and missing the mouth this only gets worse when at range or when being attacked by multiples of them the Slugger can penetrate through that Medium armor on the head with a good aim you can take the Target down with just three shots when Under Pressure though this can drop to four or five hits per Target what is quite nice about the Slugger is that it staggers the enemy interrupting attacks and slowing the Target down this makes it easier and SA safer to deal with them it's hard to pinpoint exactly where the armor is on the stalker I have various clips of shooting them head on dealing full damage but in other Clips where the odd whx appears being in stealth mode does not seem to impact a Randomness from all of the footage I've gathered what I can say is that the front mostly has no armor stalkers will flee once they have taken a certain amount of damage this exposes their back and that has definitely got light armor on it this is the best clip I could get where I think all of the shots hit quite Central it is 10 shots to bring the stalker down with five of them showing a white X hitting light armor the AR 23p has no issues with any armor on a stalker dealing full damage across all frontal zones and across the back of the Target in this clip it is hard to tell if all of the shots are hitting the central part of the enemy it is 12 shots though to kill the stalker unfortunately I couldn't really get a conclusive answer here and you don't want to know the number of hours I spent trying to find stalkers and to get all of the shots in the same area the breaker and the Slugger can both get two shot kills on the stalker this is with direct head shots for the breaker it's far more likely that it's going to take between four and six shots though this is because the pellet spread can make you wing it or deal damage across multiple zones of the target rather than just AE or Central Area the Slugger and its far tighter pellet spread can quite consistently get a three or four shot kill I originally had a whole section here going over how effective the rail gun is against Chargers but with the sixth of March patch which Nerfs the rail gun and Buffs other support weapons I've decided to do a dedicated analysis video for them I will hopefully get that done in the coming week but for now I've left some information in here which I still think is really helpful with the side armor removed on the charger you can shoot the fleshy part and deal damage the deflection symbol will appear which is confusing and perhaps a bug yet the damage will still dealt nonetheless the back of the charger is not armored but it is not a weak spot and therefore it does not take additional damage here the rail gun shoot in this exposed section will take five shots to blow it off this will then start to make the charger bleed and then it dies shortly after this something to note also is that it's actually quite easy to dodge the charger and get them to run past you exposing this back area to be shot at the bio Titan takes a huge amount of damage to bring down when they are near the extraction or at an objective they can be a massive disruption to your team before breaking down the biot Tian numbers it takes me a long time to get Visual Evidence of my videos and even longer to edit them together hopefully in a way that makes it easy and quick to process the information if you found anything helpful then a like and a comment on the video is a huge help and massively appreciated the bio Titan has heavy armor over the majority of their body this often enforces the use of strategy or heavy support weapons in those cases where fleeing is simply not an option their green belly can be damaged by most weapons the a23 non-penetrating version here still dealing damage to that underbelly the breaker and the Slugger will also be able to deal damage to the section when using the Eagle Strike bomb to try and kill the bio Titan in one hit ensure there is time and a bit of distance for the Titan to walk into the area of the bomb rather than past it and survive in the hit a I hope you enjoyed the video let me know in
