[Music] put those hands together take your seat if you can what a mighty god you're easy to love i appreciate the lord for you thank god for allowing us to come into this place thank god for the fellowship of the believers thank god that he loaned us to life another day amen it wasn't the alarm clock that woke us up told him the other night there's some people sit there along clock that clock's still going off and they have not woke up yet it wasn't amen anybody calling your name because somebody woke up this morning and the loved ones shook them and they just didn't move but god gave you life loaned it to you another day [Music] stayed the hand of death and allowed us to come together in this place one more time i'm so grateful tonight amen for all that the lord has done all that the lord is doing amen we're thankful for all of our guests and our friends that are here amen that have joined us tonight and all of those that are watching by way of youtube even whether you're watching it live or at a later time and date we thank god for you appreciate the lord amen listen we had some wonderful church this weekend god moved by his power and the spirit amen not just here but at the garland campus as well amen and i didn't know i was getting messages and stuff about sunday night and i was trying to figure out what happened amen touch somebody tell them god happened amen he showed up and did what only god can do and we're just grateful and i want to amen take my time and talk to you tonight out of the pages of the word of god because i love everything amen about the word of god i tell you all the time i love to preach it i love to hear other people preach it i love to read it i love to hear others read it i like to turn the pages i like how they feel against my fingers i like how the bible smelled i love everything about the bible amen you can't miss me with the bible because i have found that in this book is contained the words amen that leads me to life and i want you to know it it doesn't matter amen how good life is to you it doesn't matter how high you've climbed up the social ladder amen you know you can be famous world known amen popular rich amen and listen that means absolutely nothing because life can turn on a dime do you know you can be up today and they used to say down tomorrow but i'm finding out you can be up to day and down later on today amen you better know amen that you know that you know that you have something that's strong enough to stabilize you and there is nothing as strong as the word of our god look at somebody and tell them neighbor there is a word from the lord and tell him and i am a lover of the word of god amen i love it and i brought mine with me you got yours don't you come on hold that power up thank god because everything else is going down but what the word of god but the word of our god you know with they used that we were talking amen earlier today and you know we used to have bible checks amen amen we get in uh sunday school they check our sunday school books go to children's church amen they looked at us when we came in did y'all bring your bibles and you know we're at a time now when people don't value the word of god the way that they used to amen people now think because you got big screens in the church you don't need a bible anymore yes you do you need something you can read in the privacy of your own home amen something that you can study out of something that you can familiarize yourself with and i found out amen if i borrow a bible i can't hardly find nothing but if i got my own bible i could almost turn them pages in the dark amen i get used to my own bible and you need your own word amen you need something not just to read and look like you're spiritual in front of other church people amen but you need something that you can read amen when you're at home you need to know what god is saying for yourself we're at a point now when i've been saying it for a while and i'll keep saying it because jesus said there would be deceivers in the land we're at a point where people will tell you some of everything is in the bible and sadly what they're preaching to you you cannot even find it between these covers you got to know this word for yourself because if you don't know this word for yourself you will be easily duped and hoodwinked and bamboozle amen people can tell you anything and they'll have you living according to a lie and thinking that your living is pleasing the lord you better be familiar because man shall not live thy bread alone but he must live by every word that proceeds out of the mouth of the lord and i know we're at a point now where this don't mean much to nobody as a matter of fact you got people that are advocating to kick this out of the public conversation all together amen you can cuss and you can say all kinds of stuff all kind of vile language you can use i mean everything you look at what some of these comedians are saying now amen some of the stuff and words that are coming out of their mouth amen and they talk about other people and say that they vow and look at what's spewing out of their mouth but call on the name of jesus and all of a sudden you say it's something that people can't even get over amen they're so offended at the preaching of the word of god but you can say anything you can i mean all kind of base talking and people will laugh at that hey man you see little kids they put them all on youtube cussing amen and saying all kinds of words and the parents sit in the background and laugh that's so cute that ain't cute you always say nothing here amen but the same time you start teaching them bible scriptures hey man teach them how to pray in school all of a sudden now you're damaging their mind and you're doing oh come on now this is a time that we're living in when people don't appreciate the word of the lord but i come to tell you that if nobody else thanks god for the word the saints ought to value of what god has given us y'all done got quiet and i'm gonna keep preaching until god get the glory if anybody should tell you the word of god it should be the saints to know that god did all of this talking to us amen we ought to read this every day to figure out what is he saying to me today amen what did he want me to know because in this bible is contained everything that you need in order to live a successful life it teaches you how to handle your wife it teaches you how to handle your children it teaches you how to handle your husband it teaches you how to interact with people on your job it teaches you how to talk y'all get quiet it teaches you how to think so that your life can actually be a testament and a witness to the goals that you desire to achieve amen this bible is full of wisdom and it governs everything that pertains to us i want to call your attention tonight amen to the book of first corinthians the first chapter and i want to begin reading at verse 18 through amen verse number 29 that's first corinthians amen chapter number one let's begin reading at verse number 18 and let's read to verse number 29 i just want to talk to you for a moment tonight amen because we need to know amen how blessed we are amen to have the benefit of the word of the lord first corinthians 1 and eighteen not chronicles corinthians one and eighteen when you have it say amen amen read what the bible says for the preaching of the cross for the preaching of the cross is to them it's to them that perish those that are perishing when you preach the cross what is it foolishness it's foolishness to them those that don't know the lord people that are are opposed amen to a life of godliness and truth the bible says the preaching of the cross to them this is foolishness that's why they laugh at us they just don't understand now look around you you don't see nobody well you don't see nobody amen crazy in here you don't see nobody out of their mind in here do you amen you you don't see no you don't see people uh those are lunatics what you see among you these are educated people some of them didn't go to college but they got trades they're successful in their trade they work they're moral people they'll give you the shirt off of their back they'll help you amen they'll care for you they'll give you a kind word in due season but when they look at us all they see are foolish people they look at us and all they can see is that those people over there are crazy what makes us crazy crazy is when you go to a club come on come on well they turn the air conditioner off and then charge you ten dollars for the drinks crazy is when you drink and think you're the life of the party and get in the car and drive drunk and almost kill everybody on your way home there you go that's crazy crazy is thinking that getting high come on it's at the pinnacle of all that is called fun and entertaining that's fun to them but when you got cleaned up and you said i don't want to smoke that that that that nuke no more i don't know i don't want to drink that you know that thunderbird and i don't want to do all that stuff i don't want a wife and a boyfriend y'all don't get quiet here i i don't want to lay down with everybody i shake hands with at the gas station the moment you clean your life up now something wrong with you when you preach about a jesus who's able to set free and deliver the bible said it is to those that are perishing foolishness really but unto us which are saved but to us those that understand this it is the power of god it is the power of god the gospel is the power of our god real for it is written i will destroy the wisdom of the water destroy the wisdom of the wise and will bring to nothing the understanding of the prudence where is the why why is the wise where is the scribe where is the one that studies uh-huh where is the disputer of this world where are all of these great debaters that can convince you of anything where are they read hath not god made foolish the wisdom of this world look at how god has operated has he not made foolish the wisdom of this world the world says you got to be treated the world says you can't change like that but look at the power of our god has he not made foolish the wisdom of this world and i'll tell you there are some people sitting in here now you can't tell it to look at him but when they came to the lord they came with all kind of issues and all kind of habits and all kinds of addictions if you got saved and god delivered you from an addiction let me see your hand hey let me ask you this when he delivered you did you ever go back to that stuff amen not only can he save you how many of you can testify that god is able to keep you delivered now come on when the world said if you're hooked on it it's what you'll always be look at god through the foolishness of preaching he has confounded the wise they still trying to figure out how to get people off a crack and how to get from amen loose from addiction they still trying to figure out how to get somebody's lifestyle to change but look at god all you got to do is lift your hands and say god i tried it my way i need you to do what no other power can do and you know what god will do god will come in and he'll do for you today what they cannot do has he not made foolish the wisdom of this world we for after that in the wisdom of god the world by wisdom knew not god they knew not god it pleased god by the foolishness of preaching oh god save them that believe to save them that believe not that it is again to save them that believe i was i was reading an excerpt today and they call it the gospel of inclusion and and and and i just wanted to know how twisted the enemy has some people's mind and when you read uh well don't read it i read i'll tell you what it says it talked about how the jesus came and his blood and his his atoning death was shed for the sins of the whole world and because it was shed for the sins of the whole world everybody in the world is already saved even if a person says i don't want jesus they're just talking out of ignorance but they cannot give up something that god has given freely to every man whether they want it or not you don't have to ask him to save you you don't have to believe you're saved you don't even have to want him you can tell him i don't want you and that is just that's been spoken out of ignorance because he saved everybody but according to the word of god god so loved the world that he gave his only begotten son that whosoever believeth in him should not perish but have everlasting life this is why we must rightly divide the word of truth and the bible said he chose the foolishness of preaching to save them that do what believe if a person won't believe this they cannot be saved no more than you can rescue a drowning man by throwing him a rope that he refuses to reach for read for the jews require a sign the jews are looking for a sign and the greeks seek after wisdom and the greeks want wisdom but we preach christ crucified but we preach christ crucified unto the jews a stumbling block and into the greek's foolishness but unto them which are called both jews and greeks christ the power of god and the wisdom of god is the power and the wisdom of god really because the foolishness of god is wiser than men lord the foolishness of god is wiser than me ain't that something god's foolishness is incomprehensible you can't even comprehend uh his his most base thought are y'all hearing me that's the kind of god that we serve his foolishness is wiser than the wisdom of being his weakness is stronger than the strength y'all getting quiet here his trash is more valuable than your treasure he just sits on a different plane than everybody of the human order read what the bible says and the weakness of god is stronger than men for ye see your calling brethren how that not many wise men after the flesh he don't call many wise men after the flesh not many mighty uh not many noble are called but god had chosen the foolish things of the world to confound the wise the confound the wise real and god had chosen the weak things of the world to confound the things which are mighty and base things of the world and things which are despised hath god chosen yea and things which are not to bring to naught things that are that no flesh should glory no flesh should glory in his presence in his presence he has chosen the base things the foolish things are are you hearing me the things that are despised amen so that no flesh should glory in his sight i want to talk about the foolishness of preaching tonight look at somebody and just tell them the foolishness of preaching ah that's what i want to amen uh trump in your heart i want to deposit this tonight in your spirit because it is so very vital to the believer that we understand why god does what it is that he does and how we can benefit from it now we're at a time and i've seen it it seems like the higher people go amen the more famous people are the richer they are amen the less they actually believe that they need god have you noticed amen that when people get to a certain status in society they no longer need church they they no longer value the coming together amen of the people of god as one uh unit to hear from god instructions to give us what we need to live life successfully but according to the word of god we will never ask children of god outgrow the need to hear his divine word we will always need to come to the house of the lord amen and hear what god is saying to the body of christ and i know you got some people now amen the thing is but i don't need church like that you know they say stuff like i i'm saved but i'm not religious i have relationship but i'm not religious and that's their way of explaining why it is that they don't come to church that's just pain religion y'all just you go to church and i don't believe you got to go to church to serve god i believe i can serve god from my house that would be fine except for the fact that the bible says don't forsake the assembling of yourselves together you know what's happening now the enemy is getting people apart from everybody else amen and they don't have anybody else to run their thoughts by having been nobody to challenge what's going on in their head and what the devil is doing he's putting thoughts and seeds there that sound just like god but it's really not god at all that's the reason why the enemy desires to isolate you and every time something happens that you don't agree with then the devil said don't go back to church have you noticed that amen everything that happened the first solution that comes to people's minds is don't go back to just child she looked at you funny don't go back to church the preacher preached that major man don't go back to church how are they looked at you when they said that don't go back to church why is the enemy trying to separate you from the fellowship of the believers i believe it's because he knows that if he can get you by yourself outside of the safety zone amen if the devil can get you in a place where your own thoughts become the law by which you come in your life then you can actually think that you're doing good but you have nothing else to compare it to and so now people say i don't need church god will speak to me the only problem i have with that is that god says i'll give you pastors after my own heart that will feed you with knowledge and with understanding and you got people that just believe that even though they're in church amen apostle god told me this god told me that and i'm trying to figure out why is god talking to you so much hey man if he talked to you that but you don't need no pastor now y'all hearing what i'm trying to tell you every time you wake up god said what now he told me he's raising brain instead of cornflakes this morning i don't understand it but i'm just gonna obey the voice of god now i'm god talking to you that much then why do you even need a pastor are y'all hearing what i'm trying to tell you it takes somebody amen that is anointed by god to preach the word of god that will set the captives free and sometimes the devil will grab your mind and having you thinking that you're okay but somebody's got to dig into this word amen somebody that's not for sale somebody that has no vested interest somebody that's not trying to steal your money somebody that ain't trying to steal your wife y'all get quiet and they gotta preach to you out of the pages of this book because it's going to take the preaching of the gospel of jesus christ to line us up with the will of the lord and i don't care what nobody say the gospel is still good news at all times if it hurts me it's still good news if it make me cry it's still some good news if it breaks my spirit it's still good news because unlike people when the gospel breaks me it only breaks me to make me better but y'all hearing what i'm trying to tell you sometimes it comes down and it goes down rough but it is still the gospel of the lord jesus christ and it's good for you even if it make you cry this book will benefit you if you hold on to it and if you submit to the words that are written therein i wish i had somebody to look at your neighbor and tell them that the gospel is still good news it's the good news that we can be saved that we can be delivered that we can be healed that we can be set free and don't you know but somebody that's bound that's some good news you got somebody out there now smoking dope and they don't want to smoke it no more don't you know when you tell them that jesus christ is able to set them free that's good news it doesn't matter whether people appreciate it or not it is still good news and paul says it like this he said i'm not ashamed of this gospel we're there now amen when people are just ashamed of this they're trying to change it now rewrite it make it less offensive because they're ashamed of this gospel but can i say this to you sons and daughters with the things that people are bound by now you can't water this down if people are gonna be delivered if they're gonna be set free you gotta preach this gospel in some power and i know what everybody says well there ain't nothing but hate speech how you gonna tell me i hate you but y'all listen does the doctor hate you when they tell you you got two weeks to live does he hate you when he read that x-ray and say i see a spot on your brain but y'all hearing what i'm trying to tell you is it hate speech amen when the doctor tells you that he's gonna have to take your leg off that's not a hate speech amen so if that's not hate speech then we've got to still preach this in power we've got to preach this so that people know and understand that god is still a loving god and that god will deliver that he'll set people free and he'll give you a second chance at life paul didn't just say the gospel was powerful hallelujah he said i'm not ashamed of the gospel of jesus christ for it is the power you want to see the power of god this is it right here this is god's power as a matter of fact this word he said that word is truth and jesus said it takes the truth to make you free that's how powerful this gospel is i don't care what you come in bound by if you let this gospel it will change your whole life around and don't tell me it won't do it i'm looking at too many people that came in one way and left out another way i'm looking at too many situations that they could not control but look how god oh my god has turned things around and i'm not talking about folks that are just 70 80 and 90 years old you got some young folk that came in with issues and look how god saved them and sanctified them and filled them up with the holy ghost see this ain't no old man's gospel there's only one gospel for the whole world and if you let it it will turn your whole life around so you got to ask yourself why would people be ashamed of this gospel what about this gospel would cause anybody to be ashamed of it and you know what i don't like to see i don't like to see those that profess to be christians running away from this because it's not popular because other people don't appreciate it now we're running away from any kind of association with god or his word now you scared to bow your head and pray because ain't nobody else at the table praying and you're scared to have a bible with you so they don't think that you're one of them bible-thumping judgmental people scared to own up to the church that you go to i'm hearing about that church that's the one with that man i don't like to see christians running away from the word of god and you know i think about that the bible said the night in which jesus was betrayed when they came to arrest him the word of god says all of his disciples ran away and abandoned him when he needed the most everybody took off running didn't want to be associated with him and i'm saying lord you need somebody in this hour and don't tell me that he don't because the bible said he sought for a man that would stand in the gap and make up the heads and he couldn't find nobody he's looking for somebody that's willing to stand up for the principles that they find in the word of god and stop being scared to own christ everywhere you go are y'all hearing what i'm trying to tell you we're at a point now brothers and sisters when we've got to realize that jesus meant what he said when he declared that if you are ashamed of me before men i'm gonna be ashamed of you before my father and the holy angels we've got to understand what that means in this world we are the light of the world we are that city that's set on the hill while y'all hearing what i'm trying to tell you we have a responsibility now to push this gospel to the ends of the earth and paul lived in a time when there was a hostility to the word of god but he said listen i'm not ashamed of this gospel because it is the power of god unto salvation to everybody that will believe it and brothers and sisters that's why we've got to preach this with some power we've got to preach this with the authority that comes from an experience with god you know when they heard jesus speaking the bible said that he spoke as one that had the authority and that's how we got to preach this gospel we've got to carry this gospel and we've got to carry it in a strong way we've got to let this world know that even if he don't have everybody he's still got some people that don't mind making some noise for christ he's still got somebody that's willing to stand up and to be counted he's got somebody that's not ashamed of the way we look that's not ashamed of our praise that's not ashamed of our testimony but y'all hearing what i'm trying to tell you look at somebody and tell them i'm not ashamed of this gospel to stand up for this because the world don't get this they don't understand us or our lifestyle why y'all go to church as much as you do when you're just at church sunday and sunday night and you're back tuesday child is just too much church you know why they say that because they don't understand ask them how many times they've been to the liquor store this week but y'all hearing what i'm trying to tell you ask them how many times they turned up one of them called 45 how many times this week did you sniff something up your nose while hearing what i'm trying to tell you but they don't understand that this is where we find our relief are y'all getting quiet i'm gonna preach here tonight some of you know goodwill that if you miss too many services you ain't gonna be right you gotta keep your flesh under control you gotta keep your attitude subjected y'all getting quiet can i talk to somebody here this is where you find your piece so before you go out and run somebody down you just come to the house of the lord and you know what psychiatrist will tell you if you're under a whole lot of stress they tell you to just go in that little room over there with all that padding on the wall and they tell you just how to get it out and that's why some of us come to church we got too much pressure going on out there look at somebody tell them neighbor this is a warning my contents are under pressure why something else happened to me i don't know how i'm gonna make it but when i come to the house of god if i holler somebody know what i'm highlighting about if i praise him ain't nobody looking at me if i lift my hands they're gonna understand my way look at somebody to ask a neighbor would you holla back what y'all hearing me tonight i wish i had somebody that understood why you're here to throw your [Laughter] they don't understand this [Applause] they don't get this watch yourself watch it look at somebody again and ask him if i holler would you holla back oh y'all ain't saying nothing cause you can get around somebody that's been through enough that if you say holly and they'll say lou yeah but y'all hear it let us magnify his name they don't know what this is about [Music] church keeping your pressure down cause some of that stress you can get it out in the house of the lord that's why i tell people when you see folk praising god don't bother them don't hinder them cause you don't know what kind of praise that is sometimes i see people and they look like they mad they just lifted their hands and i said lord y'all better leave that alone they got some stuff going on got somebody [Laughter] the lord [Laughter] [Applause] [Music] [Music] they don't understand us but we understand us [Music] if you get good news on your job you got to pick up the phone and be whispering girl let me tell you what the lord did but when you come in here [Applause] you can implicate with thanksgiving you can enter y'all better y'all better stop here you they don't understand me [Music] god bless you thank you [Applause] [Music] [Applause] i'm trying to preach look at somebody tell them what i'm trying to praise oh he's trying to preach but i'm trying to praise him i just thought about something that i ain't shouting about i got to give him [Music] [Music] [Music] so [Music] uh can y'all at least try to sit down [Music] [Laughter] [Music] well [Music] said somebody tell him i understand your praise because he been good to me too [Music] [Applause] [Music] now y'all see how calm i'm talking that's because i want you to be calm [Music] i don't want to stir you up anymore than you already stirred [Music] oh but he's been good and we understand that if it had not been the law on our side we couldn't have made it this far but the world don't understand this they don't get this [Music] all that praising you just did what was the purpose of that lord have mercy the reality is the reason why they don't understand it is because they haven't experienced what the lord has done for you for those of us that are saved [Music] now y'all calm down now because [Music] for the ow my god for those of us that are saved [Music] this means everything to us job said i have esteemed the words of his mouth more than my necessary food look at what he says he says that it pleased god by the foolishness of preaching to save them that belief it pleased him by the foolishness of preaching to save them that believed do you see why we've got to preach this because if we don't preach this somebody won't believe we've got to give them something to believe in and that's why i know what the gospel is it's the power of god unto salvation and so the gospel amen has a lot of benefits but according to the word the gospel is the power of god unto salvation that means the word that we preach must be a word that's able to save and transform somebody's life you're hearing a lot of words but what you're not hearing a lot of is the gospel because if it's the gospel we ought to see some change taking place if you can come to church and you faithful to church but you are no more closer to god than you were and you're still living according to the standard of that church that church is not built on the gospel because if the church is built on the gospel what you ought to see you want to see change taking place y'all getting quiet here if you were shacking up and you sitting up on the gospel that gospel ought to give you the courage to go home and wake him up and say get up get your clothes at the closet you're always saying and your drawers off the floor and you got to get up out of here you get changed like that you will start to make a difference in your life that's why i know the gospel don't leave you like you are amen the gospel will change your life i told them sunday night in garland the man in the tombs of the galleries the bible said when he was in the tombs pre-encounter with jesus he was cutting himself the rob said this man was so tormented he's cutting himself bleeding he's naked no clothes on and he lives in the cemetery but when he met the lord when he met jesus the bible said the next time they saw this man he wasn't streaking in the cemetery no more now when they find it they found him sitting down somewhere he's clothed and he's in his right mind i'm telling you when the lord comes in he brings about a great change in your life and the gospel is a word that will change you for the better i don't know how you feel about it but i'm glad somebody was brave enough to preach the gospel to me because one sunday night y'all getting quiet here in 1909 i heard the gospel i experienced the power of the word of god and my life ain't been the same since and that same gospel will do it for you look at what he says as i hasten tonight he says for the jews require a sign and the greeks are going after wisdom but we preach christ crucified that's the problem that is the holdup they are looking for wisdom and for a sign as a basis to exercise faith the enemy will try to come to us as ministers and entice us to make the gospel more acceptable by adding to the gospel our own spins to give it more appeal but all we can give them is christ crucified i can't preach to you that you're gonna have more than what the bible said he'll give you i can't promise you stuff he didn't say in the word of god the only reason i can give you for having faith is christ crucified that's all we got the jews looking for a sign the greeks are looking for wisdom paul said but oh i have to give you it's christ crucified and if that's not good enough then too bad if you want a preacher to stand up and preach to you something that will tickle your fancy something amen that'll get down in the seat and make you feel bad about yourself how is that going to make you better paul said the only thing that makes sense to preach is jesus christ and him crucified and this is the problem that the jews and the greeks were experiencing the jews were looking for something that was appealing and revealing they wanted something that appealed to the itch for sensation boy y'all didn't get quiet they wanted something amen that would show a great external sign and great external wonders in essence what they really look for was some form of external evidence for their faith we want to see something if we don't see it then we won't believe jesus said it's a wicked generation that seeketh after sign or y'all hearing what i'm trying to tell you because if all you're looking for is sensationalism if you're just looking for some external evidence then the devil can give you that don't you know the bible says even the devil will perform lying signs and wonders and that's the reason why now people will choose a church because the pastors i saw a man the other day lord he claimed he was working miracles and the stuff i saw him doing was straight up foolishness but because everybody want to sign they'll run after that and they'll leave the place that's preaching to them the gospel of deliverance you know what everybody wants now everybody wants a prophetic word and so they'll leave the church where they're being fed and run all over the country where somebody is prophesied and that's all they want i need somebody to give me a word i need a word i need a word prophet can you give me a word i can even bow to prophecy now but the devil is a liar the bible already gave you a word if you live right you go to heaven if you don't you go to hell what other word do you need but y'all hearing what i'm trying to tell you this is why i keep telling you you cannot build a church off of prophecy you've got to be on the transfer on the word of the lord jesus says upon this rock that i'll build my church and the gates of hell shall not prevail against him what rock is he talking about the rock of peter's confession that thou art the christ you're the son of the living god that's the gospel of good news [Applause] but the jews said we need some sort of external sign or evidence or else we will not believe and if we are not careful brothers and sisters we'll feel as if ministry today won't have the effect that it could if we don't give people some form of sensationalism as a basis for their faith so people are doing some of everything now all kind of external uh exercises to give them something to believe in it's not about all of that paul said the only thing i can give you is christ crucified my god that's what you've got to build your faith in not some sign build your faith on the word that said god loved you enough to give his only begotten son and if you can believe him your life can be changed that's the only reason why a person should get saved not because if you get saved he'll heal you not if you get saved here put your marriage back together oh no y'all getting quiet and you got some wives i've got the nerve to tell their husband i'll take you back if you get saved no no no he can't get saved for you you can't get saved because you put that out there to him now amen no god i want you to save my husband so he can learn how to pay these bills that's the wrong kind of prayer to pray you mean the only reason why you want god to save him and so he can pay bills and keep you in your house that's not a reason for sal y'all getting quiet now he needs to be saved because he's fallen in love with the lord because jesus christ is now his hope and his faith he needs to be saved because he heard a word that triggered a response in his spirit and he figured that he could not live without the christ you don't get saved for all of that external stuff you get saved because you believe that this is the only hope of your world then he says the greeks they're looking for wisdom the jews look for evidence for their faith the greeks wanted rational evidence they wanted something that appealed to their intellect and if we're not careful we'll try to prove to people how much we know through our preaching now y'all don't got quiet on it preaching is not the place to prove that you're educated you know what the bible said about the disciples it said that they looked at them and they figured that these were men that didn't have no kind of education they were unlearned men but they took note of them because they realized they've been with christ and i come to tell you tonight you can be a janitor by trader and y'all getting quiet here and still be a man or woman of god look at what paul said god don't choose many noble men have you noticed that god really don't choose great philosophers or great orators you don't choose many statesmen men of wealth of power and interest in the world to publish this gospel god will reach to the backside of the desert and get somebody that's watching sheep or y'all hearing what i'm trying to tell you god don't look for ceos to preach this gospel he'll get somebody that's sitting in a cubicle and he'll drop something in their heart and tell them i'm calling you to spread this gospel around the world he's not looking for people that have prestige he's just looking for people that got a willing heart are y'all hearing what i'm trying to tell you it's not great orators he's not looking for poets he's that look y'all ain't saying nothing about my essay you know what god will do got to go down to the country he'll get somebody that ain't got no education somebody that dropped out in the sixth grade that don't even know prop addiction somebody that's gonna get up and say something like cooking and i went down the street but he's gonna put an anointing and when they stand up under this gospel they're gonna preach it and somebody's going to be saved somebody's going to hear something that's going to give them hope in this world i come to tell you tonight it's not about your education it's about whether or not you've been in the face of god he can use you just like you are. and so they look for something that would appeal to the intellect and they wanted it to come from somebody who had great intellectual prowess oh god somebody that was preaching with complex revelations and somebody that stood and used preaching as an opportunity to go into their personal academic successes and prove who they were just wanting to hear something new and you know you got people like that in the church now you still got the jews and the greeks you got somebody that just want a sign and you always got somebody to want to hear something deep as long as you come with something deep that they never heard before they think you've been in the face of god because i ain't never heard nobody preaching like that before listen can i tell you something about the bible it's been around here for 2 000 years in the form that we see it now can i tell you something brothers and sisters after you've been preaching a while amen sometimes you're gonna have to double back you're gonna have to preach something over again that you preached years ago it's the devil that's trying to make you believe that you got a revelation that ain't nobody ever had before stop trying to appeal to people by giving them something deep and come on and let's just give them the simplicity of the word of god can i tell you that there's nothing as effective as the plain doctrine of a crucified lord there's nothing more effective than to stand up and tell somebody that jesus loved you so much that he went to a cross and died for you he gave up the ghost he laid his life down he was buried in a tomb but he was raised on the third day morning that's a greater message than any of those 10 words that we can give people that they won't even understand no way let's stop trying to make it sensational and let's stop trying to prove our intellect and come on and let's get back to the foolishness of preaching the gospel of jesus christ so what you're going to preach when you go to the streets and you're talking to people that are high while they listening to you you mean you're going to give them 10 words if you want to be effective brothers and sisters just make this word plain stop trying to embellish it stop trying to make it sound better can i tell you something about the preaching of the cross that is ugly in the world you gonna pretty up the preaching of the cross you know what the cross was all about ain't nothing pretty about that i told you i was reading the man said nobody that actually saw a crucifixion ever wore a cross as decoration because crucifixion was such a mess nobody would have ever wanted to celebrate a crucifixion to nail somebody to a tree a spike in their hands and a spike through their feet nailing somebody to a tree there's nothing pretty about that and this is why the jews were hung up because according to their teaching cursed is anything that hangs on a tree and for jesus to hang on a tree he became accursed in their eyes they didn't know that it was he that knew no sin that became sin that he might in turn bring them to a place of becoming the righteousness of god and so they were hung up on the fact that he was hung up and to them you expect us to believe in a savior that was hung up on a tree when the bible said cursed is anything that hangs from a tree so you want me to trust an accursed thing for my salvation they didn't understand it that's why it was to them a stumbling block they couldn't get it and to the greeks they could not comprehend that a god could suffer they could not believe that there was actually an instance where a god was affected by emotion and if he loved to the point of choosing to die then the fact that a man had an impact on a god means that to them it made the man greater than the god because a god should have been characterized by apathy and he should have just been distant from men but because god loved us to the point that he sent his son his only begotten son very god of very god to die on the cross for our sins they believe that now it makes man greater than god and they couldn't get it they could not understand how do you expect me to believe in a god that died on the cross you mean god the son came down and they hung him on the tree and he died at the hands of a man the son of god and you want me to serve him and he couldn't even save himself but he can save me it tripped him up they couldn't figure this out and that's why they called it foolishness the bible said they look at the cross and it becomes a mystery to them because look at those that embrace what the cross represented paul said i don't have nothing to preach to you but jesus christ crucified that's it that's all i can give you i can show you the ugliness of it because it is ugly but it's beautiful at the same time y'all hearing me it's ugly but it has beauty to it it's bloody it's gory there's blood running down this cross there's flesh pouring down there's flesh hanging off of this cross it's an instrument of death you can't look at it without turning your head but it's beautiful at the same time and this is why they could not get it but paul said listen to those of us that understand what this is about we see that the wisdom that they're looking for and the sign that they're looking for is found right there in the preaching of the cross of christ it's foolishness because they don't understand it but we've got to preach it and ask god to translate our words in the ears of the hebrew look at what he says as i close god chose the foolish things of this world and if you don't think that god can elevate foolishness in man's eyes and cause it to be the remedy for man's suffering look throughout the bible you remember when they murmured against god and moses and god said i'll send fiery serpents among them those serpents started going through the camp of the israelites biting those israelites and they were dying and the people cried out and said god we need a remedy for this problem god says to moses make a serpent of brass and just put it up on the pole and if anybody look at it they'll live lord that's foolishness you mean i just got bit by a viper you mean i just got bit by a cobra i just got big by a black mamba you mean i just got and all i got to do is look at a snake on the pole and i live that's foolishness but if you want to live bad enough before you take that last breath you're going to cast your wishful eye over that of that serpent naaman came to the prophet and said i got leprosy i need to be healed elijah didn't even come out the house he just told a servant go tell him i said dip seven times and jordan he'll be clean he said wait a minute this man didn't come out to meet me do you know who i am and he didn't even come at the house to shake my hand and then tell me to go dip in one of the dirtiest rivers in the country and i'm supposed to go dip and be clean and healed of this leprosy sound foolish don't it but when naaman went down in that water i told you it might have been hard for the first few times but that that last time i think naaman had the hang of it and when he went down and he came back up out of that water the bible said he had the skin of a little child it sounds foolish but that's how god works that's what god calls a miracle are y'all hearing what i'm trying to tell you yes there are miracles of deliverance yes there are miracles of supply but salvation is the greatest miracle he could ever perform in your life and it may sound foolish that after all the years you spent on the streets it may sound like the most foolish thing you've ever heard that after you don't smoke dope for 25 years all you got to do is come to this altar and lift your hands and say to god i'm sorry ask him to come in deliver you save you and set you free and ask him to baptize you with the holy ghost that sounds like it's foolishness brother herman you don't understand i haven't been to treatment centers i tried to quit cold turkey i told my family to hide my stuff and lock me in the room and when i came out i had such a beastly desire for those same old things all over again and you telling me after i done tried to stop and couldn't stop myself all i got to do is come to the lord and ask him to save me and he's gonna do what i ask him to do the bible said if you come to the lord he will in no wise cast you out i want you to know tonight that you may have a hard time forgiving yourself but god ain't got a hard time forgiving you if you ask him he can deliver you tonight he can set you free he can take that addiction away from you he can take the taste of liquor out of your mouth or y'all hearing what i'm trying to tell you he could even stop you from cursing lord you always standing here how many of y'all were bound by cussing before the lord saved you can god deliver you from cussin some of y'all don't believe that well i just cuss when i'm mad well you need to get saved sanctified and filled with the holy ghost you don't understand apostle the job i'm in if you don't curse they ain't gonna get the picture oh you need to be saved and sanctified and filled with the holy ghost lord take on mother thomas brother thomas told us about that spirit he meant mother thomas testified that when she got saved she had a cussing mouth she said oh god she couldn't stand for the man to cut a yard because if he didn't cut it right she had to go give him a few choice words out of the center's dictionary but y'all hearing what i'm trying to tell you she said the only way he would act right she had to cuss him out but when she got saved and filled with the holy ghost she went out there and he skinned up her yard and she went out there and said something like oh lord and he said i know you say if you ain't cussing me out for that then you got some power i'm trying to tell somebody when you get it like the bible says he will change your whole life [Applause] god took the cuss out of mother thomas and gave us some tongues you used to you said michael t testify i tell his testimony everywhere i go mike testified that when he was on the streets he tried every high that hit the street it took him to call off the names all that stuff i ain't never heard of some of this stuff before he started testing out trees and mollies and windowpane dot quaaludes we didn't heard too much i'm not ready for quails right now that's i'm still sensing it back then because he said every time he he heard that a new high hit the street he go try that smoking everything that he could smoke he said he loved getting high and you got people like that they love getting high and he said one day he started praying and he told the lord lord you know i like all of this stuff i love the window pane the micro dot i love lsd i love all this stuff he said lord but if you don't want me to do it you take the desire away from me and he came to a service heard the foolishness of preaching and realizes something to this that i need mike said he came down lifted his hands when the man of god touched him he said he hit the floor he rolled and rolled and rolled he said but when he got up he got up and didn't have a desire for none of that stuff and the lord just called him home to his reward just a few years ago four or five years ago five years ago now and from 1978 until five years ago when the lord called him home he never touched it again he never had a desire for y'all getting quiet like you could have delivered yourself god took it away from him and he'll do the same thing for you if you believe the foolishness [Music] of preaching homes put back together through the foolishness of preaching people that had bad spirits through the foolishness of preaching i remember years ago i was talking to one young man who came off the streets and i don't know what made me do it but i asked him i said now all that rough housing you did out there did you ever kill anybody you know what he told me he said i don't know because most times i didn't even stay around and watch the body hit the ground that's what he told me years ago but he was saved god delivered him and set him free now if you can't praise god for nothing else you ought to be able to praise god for the fact that he's saving people because some of these folk could have been out there stalking you at the atm they could have been on the parking lot pulling the wheels off your car while you were here praising the lord but god saved them and you don't have them to worry y'all ain't saying nothing and as a matter of fact you don't even know who you're sitting next to tonight you might be sitting next to somebody that used to be a jacker pull up on you at the red light and tell you to drop out this car but they believe the foolishness of preaching and look at what god is able to do paul said i don't have nothing to give you you want sensationalism you want intellect i don't have that he said i determined not to come to you with a bunch of enticing words of man's wisdom but what i wanted i wanted to preach to you out of power and demonstration that's all i wanted i'm not gonna give you sensationalism as a basis to believe jesus christ i'm not gonna come there and turn flips and say if i turn these three flips then you gotta be saved if that's what you can say for you not really saying you gotta believe on the name of the only begotten son of god i believe in the finished work of calvary i'm not going to give you intellect because if all you want is a good sound then you will stop even valuing the basic doctrine of a crucified christ that'll never do it for you all you're looking for is a good sound and a good tool you will never ever find the joy in understanding the gospel of a crucified christ you know what i used to love i i loved hearing those songs that were just so simple songs down by the time you get through singing it you have sung 2 381 words but they used to have songs that were so simple i know it was the blood hallelujah i know it was the blood i know it was the blood y'all getting cried now we're singing songs we don't even know them we didn't listen to the song for three weeks and they learned it yet just too wordy what happened to the simplicity that we used to have in our communication of the gospel we got to get back to that it's real it's powerful and it still works and paul said the reason why i'm giving you this simple gospel it's because that's how god would have it he chose the foolish things to confound i look that word confounded up it means to destroy to humiliate to bring to the point of annihilation god shows something that people would take for granted and he brought about the greatest work he could ever bring about through what men would look at as foolishness that's how great god is take a testimony and convict somebody's heart god is so great he can take a message being preached in a church in dallas texas yeah reach straight through that camera and touch somebody on the other side of the world turned their whole life around people want to know why do y'all keep doing this why do you go why why you go to church so much why do you praise god why did you change your life why don't you do what you used to do they just don't understand there's something to this may not seem like much to them but for those of us that had an experience with god we cherish this we hold on to this because we tried man's wisdom we tried man's way and it let us down but through the foolishness of preaching and faith in a crucified christ we have found everything that we need stand to your feet i'm not looking for a shout i'm not looking for a dance i'm looking for the power to change my whole life and i want you to know tonight it's in the foolishness of preaching and for somebody tonight maybe you have an experienced god maybe you've gone to church and you've heard good preaching heard good sound people tuned up everybody shouted but when you left there you went back to that same old life that same old lifestyle i want you to know that the gospel still has power paul said i'm not ashamed of this why would i be ashamed of it when i know what it did for me for anybody that's really been changed for anybody that's ever been to the point where you felt like there was no hope and there was no help when you used to cry because you were just miserable in the states you were in but you heard words that resonated on the inside of your heart and somebody told you that in spite of who you were and what you've done god loved you i listened to brother mathis tonight he told us even when we were out there in the world doing all kind of foolishness you offended god by the sins you committed he was still giving you breath to breathe some of you took that breath that he gave you and used his own name in vain and he still gave you breath that's a great god and to know that that god loves us and cares so much for us it's still good news and tonight if you're here and you're not saved maybe you don't know him in the pardon of your sin it doesn't matter who you are what you've done the good news is he's still in the life-changing business and if he could do it for me and he did it for me he can do it for you too i listen to these testimonies i see all of these people they talk about where they used to be the things they used to do and to see them now growing in god to see people who when they came to the lord they didn't know nothing about the bible but now they can share with us good news they're testifying and telling somebody else of his power that's a wonderful thing i guess what i'm trying to tell you tonight is that if he did it for them he'll do the same thing for you while every head is about in every eye closed if you hear and you'll say tonight i'm ready to surrender my life to the lord i'm ready to turn it over to him i tried it my way and it didn't work i damaged myself trying to get better but brother herman if what you told me tonight was true if what you preached out of this book is true if god really does love me and if he can change me by simple act of faith then that's what i need him to do tonight if that's you i want you to step out of that roll step into that isle and make your way to this altar god's not trying to hide from you he's not trying to make it harder difficult for you to receive the salvation that he sent his son to give us he wants you saved he wants you delivered he wants you set free if there's another coming if you need somebody to grab them by the hand and ask them if they'll walk you this way they'll do it come on if there's another if you have a need tonight god is able to meet you at the point of that need why don't you come come on we'll leave this line open you can come you can come oh that's it come on is there another come on i do [Music] i surrender all [Music] my [Music] i surrender oh my come on [Music] oh come on that i praise him tonight thank him that one day you heard the foolishness of preaching but it resonated down in your heart it changed you and it brought you to a place of wholeness in christ we honor him clap those hands and bless him as you take your seat hallelujah i want you to hold on we got to remain at a place where we believe that it's the gospel plus nothing else amen we don't need anything else besides this word whenever we come to a point of needing god and something else that we have just effectively lost our faith in god the gospel is everything that we need and if we can hold on to this not philosophy not experts we need the gospel not treatment amen not self-help books or seven steps to a successful life what we need is the gospel it is everything that god intends for us to have it is his power unto salvation to everyone that believes and we praise the lord let's get our announcements tonight amen praise the lord we're asking the saints to continue to pray for the following families
