Seems like... they were both in the right? ATC gives an almost certainly safe heading, the pilot says no. ATC asks why not, pilot gives reason. ATC makes one attempt at convincing the pilot that the heading is safe, the pilot says no. ATC immediately resolves the situation and gets the pilot a new heading after a short delay.
If anything, at 2:20, the pilot impatiently question's the ATC's directions. This is the only time after the initial encounter that the ATC acts annoyed, and it seems justified.
Then, as the pilot is leaving, he makes a final unnecessary jab at the ATC ("my boss will be in contact with your boss").
So both people handled the situation as needed, but the pilot acted like an asshole at the end there. There is no reason to further disrupt the ATC by saying that.
The shamrock pilot most likely saw the cell and it looked worse than it really was. Pilots ask for deviations around weather all the time. I wasnβt there but it looks like he was only guilty of being a little overly cautious.
Started the video expecting something way worse. Shitty situation which wasn't helped by workload on both sides. Shamrock would've seen the cell while lining up, possibly too late to make a judgement on whether to ask for a heading after takeoff. ATC could've explained on the first vector to the right what would happen next and why.
All in all I've seen way worse attitudes over way less.
βI feel his pain, numerous aircraft take the heading and then suddenly someone doesnβt. BUT he was a bit snarky (typical with ny controllers)β
-my dad, an ATC
Is there someone who has the time to ELI5 for a non-aviation person?
i'd be interested to hear some of the jargon in this video broken down. what does heavy mean? is sounds like it might just be part of the call sign, but it's not capitalized like Shamrock is.
overhead Kennedy, GREKI, jesus it's like listening to another language lol
That was like watching a game of soccer. If you pay attention, something eventually happens
Did Jim Norton get a job doing air traffic control.
Is there a reason some of the comms sound like shit and others are super clear? Do some have newer equipment? And if so, why is that not the standard?
