[Music] hey guys it's will from the game Lounge here and welcome back so less than two weeks after the review where I said the standard ambon guey just simply wasn't good enough we now have already a custom firmware from batera now this one has been in the alpha phase for a little while now but has finally moved to to the beta and crucially here this is feature complete bluetooth support is in Wi-Fi support is in an analog thumbstick support is in and for me this has finally reached that inflection point where I think now is the time to move away from the stock OS so this is bacera a multiplatform standalone Linux based I OS I'm already extremely familiar with this I've used it for years on x64 4 Bas systems and Raspberry Pi Etc but you can see here straight away the interface looks extremely professional uh it's based off of emulation station and is extremely Snappy and responsive installation here is really easy you can grab the latest version from their GitHub page and download a IMG image file uh then you can simply insert your micro SD card into your PC I re recommend one of these cheap micro USD to USB sticks you can download a free piece of software eter in this case and select it and simply write it to the SD card the key thing to remember here is that batera by default only has a few shareware games distributed with it so you may need to take out the existing SD card and copy your games over personally I won't be going back to the stock OS so I just overwrote the standard card but some people may feel more comfortable installing it onto a fresh micro SD card card one other thing to note is obviously to back up the games from the SD card the thing that I really like about bacera is that it really Nails the user experience it can be as indepth or as simple as you want it to be the interface is clean and if you want to just install it and forget about it that's absolutely fine but the menu systems despite being very discret are actually very deep and indepth allowing plenty of customization options here for for example you can leave everything on default or you can jump into the menus here and really customize exactly how you want things to look you can see here I'm looking at the mega CD obviously you can go into the menu system go down here to scraper and you can effectively then choose where you want to scrape your media from so that you can download all the cover work all of the artwork so if we go into scraper here you'll notice it doesn't take particularly long to download I've only got a few Mega CD games loaded and you'll find that it's then downloaded all the artwork that you need which gives it that really really professional look so if we refresh the game list here and we'll need to change the view right now I've got it in simple list view come down here to view Gamestyle let's do detailed let's take a look there's a few here different options but yeah you'll see here all of the artworks come down now let's say there is a game that hasn't been found for example you can see The Amazing Spider-Man game there's no artwork found really really simple just hold down the a button go down to scrape and you can scrape individual games and that will look up multiple databases you can see here this game is available on the screen scraper scraper and we can easily just update the details as we need or equally if there's any mismatches and you'll notice here you you can configure this exactly how you want I've got the carousel view as well here which looks pretty good for some so the interface is light years ahead of the stock OS but what about the games and I decided to give it the same chance I gave the stock OS if you checked out my review uh and loaded Sonic the same way that I did and it feels perfect super resp responsive Ultra smooth and pretty much every low-end system ran better or on par with the standard stock OS interestingly though there was one caveat and that is the Dreamcast which did not run as well the menu system does allow you to go in and make some tweaks but I couldn't quite get it to run as well as the stock OS now I have every faith knowing batera as a piece of software and the Developers that this will be resolved and they're developing things literally all the time another very cool feature here is if you connect it to a monitor using the HDMI out this will show the desktop interface which is more suitable for widescreen um which also includes if you play some of the games the excellent batera bezels which I personally think was a really nice touch effectively you get a fantastic consolized experience here the Nintendo 64 as well ran absolutely fine exactly the same as the stock OS I would say but you had plenty of customization options here as well if you wanted to run it at higher resolutions another system that ran very well in fact I think far better than the stock OS was the PSP now you'll see here that it's in wides screen format which is not great the screen is pretty small on the 4x3 personally I don't see this device as a PSP device but it's a nice little extra and I actually thoroughly enjoyed playing the PSP this way so to conclude I think this is the perfect moment to transition to bacera for this device and what it does for this device is it takes it from being a solid six 7 out of 10 um and makes it for me a n out of 10 it really does as a device with this software tick every box in terms of setting out what it was meant to do it's a cheap device um cost-wise that has extremely professional high quality hardware and now has the software to back that up and at this price point there really isn't much wrong with this device now quick video today I hope you guys en enjoyed it please like And subscribe always very helpful and I'll see you all soon
