alright hello everybody and welcome back this is Chris with marksman shooting sports in chief gun usa.com in Westfield Indiana and you are watching marksman TV today we have a really cool video lineup for you we will be doing a very in-depth overview and comparison of many different variations of ak-47 if you're looking into getting started into the ak-47 market this might be a really good guide for you so general things to look for today with me I do have Jeff from the wabbit season hi everyone I'm Jeff in the wabbit even if you don't know me my channel's focus on a case mostly about a cave building itself and us about your maintenance and repairs and such but today we're going to talk about today about one smoking for when you're going to a shop and have you use the correct terminology so when you talk to the guy and give you exactly what you're looking for whether it's make a forty seven eight km in case ten before even we have an art became a pepper up there on the table hopefully by the time we're done here you're going to know more than the guy that's on the other side of the counter so I'm going to leave the link to just channel in the description box that go check that out really great source of information I personally enjoyed watching a lot of this videos we'll go ahead and jump into this stick around this coming up right now and they're going to happen so to get started we're going to look at one of the major differences when you're shopping for an ak-47 as opposed to an ar-15 when you're looking for an ar-15 generally the manufacturers are the main differentiating points between if you're looking at this model made by Smith of that model made by Ruger because all ar-15s are modern-day production for the most part they're not imported into the country a Hays is a little bit different you're not just looking at the manufacturer you're looking at the country of origin or the country of origin pattern of the rifle you're looking at if it was imported who is the importer and if it was built who did the build so Jeff walk us through these real quick we have 680 variants here on the table all from different countries and they're all a little bit different generally and we're just going to talk about is these are the sorts of differences you can run into so it's good to know the differences between each one and the pros and cons would start off just going to talk about the difference between each of the patterns here on the table yeah I can go and do that because over here we start with the local aka these are from made in the United States this is from I oh this is the standard AKM pattern the folded receivers of the AKM with the wood buttstock run back these are people talk about the a K even when they talk about the ak-47 this is usually what they mean is via cam me over here is the Yugoslavian pattern one this is imported by sentry arms and this would just happens to be an under folder type other than other than the thicker receiver that's different from gear it's it's pretty much the same thing as a ring area cam this one's a little bit different this is a Polish night clothes 1960 the receiver is US made but this is a mil receiver if this is a true ak-47 it's the ak-47 type 3 and it was known you'll notice it because that's biggest indicators that rectangle right there but this is a polished parts with a u.s. receiver alright and this one right here this is the Vepr 54r from russia this one's a little bit of an oddball the other three that this instead of shooting 760 by 39 she was 72 by 54 which most people are more commonly associated with the Mosin this was a little bit unique because it does have the RPK style receiver which is this little hump here so it's still an ache a has to ache a action just shoots a bigger a bigger round this one's and also the lovely of an oddball this is this is in a cage 74 shoots two five four or five by 30 min 30 nine-millimeter basics basically the same thing as a as the AKM many of the parts will actually swap between them you know this is a Bulgarian pattern and that's typically what you're going to see in this country is mostly a condemning horse have seemed to be ported from Bulgaria right here is a good indicator so if you ever seen one of these unless somebody put a custom made a custom flash hider the suppressor that's what you're going to see that's the clear sign of a 1974 and then this one is my pride and joy that's the Romanian rpk from from the 60s also one of the hardest rifles to make it's also one of the hardest yet right now there are p number of our beauty aid kits that are still out there pretty mental and you know you're going to pay top dollar for those kind of things and if you can find Center used to make one the AES 108 or something like that so you still find those something a wild but RPK 76530 9 basically it's just a big version of the ak-47 on supply Yugoslavian to make one so it looks a little a little bit different but that's it's Club stock back a big indicator of a rpk but if they're really hard to miss because of the size of them and traditionally these were issued right as like basically the light machine gun role yeah with just it's what it is is an ak-47 with a heavy barrel at what length barrel is at about a 22 inch or so 22 inch so heavy barrel with a bipod got it haven't been the guy would have it whatever through the drum magazine yeah you would have a 75 right 75 round drama and then this was a quick and easy to manufacture light machine gun that could be issued alongside the standard rifle but of course being a civilian gun or being in accordance with our laws it's semi-automatic only but still a lot of fun to shoot and I have seen people put these buck fire stocks on these to kind of simulate that type of fire but still very cool and this was built off you said a Romanian kit Romanian kit and this one's different this one's kind of like complete of Romania or the Yugoslavia and it said of being a one millimeter receiver is a 1.5 millimeter heavier receiver to help it for that to stay fire okay so to recap real quick we have over here on the far left is kind of a polish pattern but made in the United States and that's a little bit of a different animal now these other five would fall into the realm and this is the second thing to consider so we've talked about difference of patterns in each varying countries so as you can see each ak-47 whether it's this one here or this one here to the novice or to somebody who just started their search look exactly the same but they are from different organs well that's only half the story when you're talking about how the the rifle got here and how it was assemble there also so they came into the country three and then also they were in most parts assembled because the importers cannot import full complete and functional rifles they're usually cut into scrap imported as kids and then rebuilt on us made receivers barrels and trunnions and whatever else to comply with 922 our is a right 922 our compliance which basically says a firearm that comes into the country has to have a minimum of ten parts ten partisan or usmai so Jeff when we're talking about okay so they already know we're looking at different patterns first let's talk about the patterns again real quick is there a difference of quality in terms of something that when somebody is looking to purchase an ak-47 if they're looking at a Romanian pattern versus a Polish pattern is there going to be a lot of difference in the quality no most of most of these receivers come or start in life like this is only four but let me it's numbers over the cio just so most don't come like this where it's blank in the back and what happen is for different rifles tongue gary an AMD 65 which is really popular right now just because they're importers or getting hold them they'll just cut out a little knot right here and then that's the step goes from side filter or the Mahdi's which was the old egyptian one they know they just attach the side folder to the back of them so you know you can see here with the even filled ak-74 type three you know there's nothing back here and so the modern rifle has the same same situation so the difference you do get differences like here this is a standard pattern or standard receiver but all they did is cut different holes into it as long as their heat trained properly you're good to go okay so then that leads us into the next question there's importers and usual and importers like we just discussed and I bring the parts and they're bringing them in his parts and then they're building them yes are their manufacturers what are some things to look for in B we hear a lot of talk on the internet that you know in our arms or we'll talk about n RS with Century Arms makes horrible ak-47s or IO makes horrible ak-47s or you know a lot of people say Arsenal make excellent FK 47 is there is that just a lot of hyper is there a lot of truth to that and if there is truth to that what are the certain things that usually are problematic when they're put windows install things that people can spot when there are the gun store looking at purchasing one of these all right so yeah they're part of it is internet high part of it is internet true there it is there is a difference in quality between the i/o and the Arsenal not it's it's not a you know every single rifle is horrible and every single rifle is great you know you can you can't have bad Arsenal rifles you can have great il rifles and it's part of anything else with economics in price points of who they're going for you know some guy who's going to the rank range and shooting this you know once or twice every few months you know it's not going to have any problems the most part if you know they're things can come loose and such but that can happen for any rifle but so thanks for that kind of guy the casual shooter you know it's not a big deal oh now you take you get get some guy whose data from you know a ke operators Union like Rob and dropping this thing slamming against rocks running it over and stuff yeah you're probably going to damage it because you're gonna do more damage to it compared to an Arsenal or member or Sega or one of those just because the parts qualities that the Russians or you know those are those are designed for military use in the first place the manufacturer cost are much higher than what iOS is used for centering you know century as with centuries kind of a unique beast because century as an importer is actually pretty good you know they want some of the highest quality rifles that come in specially those the washers these end paths are fantastic once it's what's interesting you have to be careful with talking about things to look for a lot of these centuries come in you know they come in single stack which means that these Mac whales don't accept a typical you know 30 round magazine that you see so what they have to do is come in into single stack and century when they're here open them up and you'll see marks inside the Mac well of where they've done and sometimes they're sloppy about it and sometimes they'll eat chips in there and so that's kind of thing you want to take a look at when you're you can get a hold of the rifle and you can hold it in the gun store you want to look for that kind of thing and you know if there's chips in there you know get the gun you know you have your dealer brush some houses up before you take the rifle but you want to look at that and make sure that nobody screws that part of it up you know even though they after they imported the rifle that somebody in between that point in the dealer's shop didn't screw up the rifle so a lot of agloe sound a price point and I think a lot of that comes into like an ar-15 if you're going to spend five or six hundred bucks and get an MMP fifteen sport you have to be realistic about what you want the rifle to do for you is it just going to be a fun weekend range guns for blasting away water bottles or shooting paper if that's what you're looking to do then a five or six hundred dollar ar-15 it could be a good way to go you don't really need a lot more than that when you get into the a.k world it's I guess Jeff is it if I'm correct in saying this just that if you're looking again for that fun we can shoot or something like and I oh it's perfectly fine for that or something like this Century Arms is perfectly fine for that if you're planning on keeping it as a doomsday rifle into the world the last line of protection or anything like that or you're expecting it to have to go to very very you know rigorous and torturous circumstances where you want it to hold up and be impervious to a lot of damage and abuse then maybe something like an arsenal as a way to go or AB effort peppers or excellent ak-47s or a Saiga if you can get one yeah and that's true I mean there's pretty much people mentioned will mention four guns from different price points you know when you start you know five six hundred range you know your washers and your impacts or the way to what people will mostly go to just the washers obviously right now or haven't they're importing the number that are coming in is lower the cougar who makes them and is indicated over the last couple years that their military contracts are take president and so there's the number of that are coming into the country it's much less so the view is lobbying impacts are much more common but are you know they're slightly oddball that's one thing you have careful these these take the furniture and in such right here is not the same thing as this one because this one can be swapped out with any type of other AKM this one has since it's the receivers a little bit thicker and the way that it's set up a little bit different it's not as compatible with some of the other rifles but you know the impact is considered one of one of the best midrange and then of course you know you get your peppers and your arsenals and your say guys as you said you can find them but right now it's off course Arsenal and pepper has to be the top tier so I'm actually also really fond of the Yugos and I think and I usually recommend them to a lot of people too when they come in if you're in kind of that entry-level line and these are actually phenomenal they are are they at a 1.5 millimeter by via so they're 1.5 millimeter thick receiver what you what they wanted to be able to do and earlier when these are imported you can find grenade launching sites on them so you could fire grenades off the front and that's why you find if you see this 3 vent handguard you know it's you just log in it's the quickest way you can tell everything else uses a to Venice because the gas system is elongated and the receiver is thicker to handle that back pressure of firing the grenade off the front of the barrel so they're actually are built like a tank if you get into a gun store and pick one up you will feel a very significant difference is just the construction of the weight in the feel so these are some of my personal favorites and I personally would not see any reason to spend more than about the $700 at these things cost it's really got a lot that you need and can really be suitable as a combat weapon to if you really are looking to get an 8k for that reason so Jeff another thing a lot of people who are into ar-15s one thing they really like to do and it's a pretty easy thing to do is to build your own and one of the cool things specifically about your channel is your channel is your very mainly towards building ak-47s you have videos and very specific procedures and the different processes and putting certain site assemblies together or putting a barrel in place and it is actually quite a bit more involved and I've learned that from watching Jeb that on the wabbit season then putting together an ar-15 so these two here are aks that Jeff put together so what we're going to do now is I'm going to clear the table of the rest of them and focus on these two and Jeff's going to walk you through some of the work that he's done and kind of talk a little bit about what's involved in building your own a game okay so here we have the - a cage that Jeff and you have video footage of be putting these together on your channel many times okay so if you want to see the process that Jeff actually took check them out Jeff walk us through this he's going to break it down basically this is an opportunity to show you a general disassembly of an ak-47 so he'll field strip it for you then we'll bring it in close to he could talk about the internal some of the things that you need to do in order to go through the manufacturing process ability your own some of the tools you might need to acquire and also this is a great opportunity to look at the inside and Jeff can point out some things to look for if you are considering purchasing a gun that somebody else is built whether it's an independent voter or importer or something like that so Jeff go ahead and get into it show us what you got sure and so this is something you can at least the first part of this is something you should be able to do in the in the gun store if the guy doesn't look you know that on the other side of the counter doesn't like to do it then you know you need you probably should walk away because you need to be able to look inside these so let's go ahead and take we're going to take a look at this Bulgarian ak74 the internals are almost identical to the ik am like the i/o and the empath and any other standard a cam that's you'll you'll have and we're going to the thing we're going to do here is just pop the inside and look at the inside and this is kind of thing you should be able to do in the store somebody give your rifle you need to be able to look in there because you want to see what the internals look like explain what's in here and why I have it in here you're gonna have to do this anyway students have you field strip and take a look at the rifle and so bring up the trigger this is the top coat g2 trigger that I use pretty much on all my rifles can break out the parts as a safety selector switch alright so one thing I want to look for is you look inside the rifle is this the pins retaining plate if there's a plate there you're good to go if there's not if there's a wire you know it's not a big deal but you want to be aware that this wire there and those have a tendency to pop out it doesn't matter who makes the gun whether it's a you know a thousand dollar rifle or $300 rifle that if you have a wire and the toting these pins essentially it's going to pop itself lift it they just always do so you may you know put on your list that you want to get one of these plates I use ones by red star you can find them all over the internet and you're going to want to replace it and put them one of those in there at some point and I I cover that in one of my videos and that's what that'll just save you a lot of trouble in a lot of hassle for later on so I was going to take the continue with the rifle you know this is just g2 I use the g2 trigger set just because it's a it's an American part that that goes back to the 922 our thing so typically cap CO and LG are your number one brand but there are other ones out there just be aware that they don't all pull the same an ache a trigger is very different just like an ar-15 Tim knee trigger and is not the same thing as the other so just be aware that they do pull differently and they will feel differently all right so now that we got the rifle back together we'll talk about the rivets here I did these rivets and so you can see you know they're not perfect but they're actually pretty good for most builders manufactured negative manufactured rifle new century io Arsenal sega pepper or whatever yeah you want to check the rivets as well these should be perfect if they're not you know that's there's something wrong so always check the rivets the one thing you want to look for the space between the rib make sure there's no space between rivets and the receiver if there is space and that's incorrect and that can cause some problems later on that's the right is shaking back and forth down the road so just make check the rivets make sure they're formed properly to make sure that they're actually flattened against the receiver on this end a favorite aka topic called cannon sight you'll see that all over the place people complain about it cannon sights are perfectly normal for an NK it doesn't matter who makes the rifle they're perfectly normal what cannon means if you don't know is the rear sight the block the gas block in the front sight block all line up in a straight row what just tends to happen during manufacturing that they are slightly crooked when they get pinned and such it's it's when you're building your own rifles it's real easy to see and see how that happens but when they're not they're slightly crooked and then what you have to do is adjust the front side block slightly left or right to make sure that it hits at zero as long as the front side block can be pushed left or right to be 0 then the rifle is fine you don't need to do anything and they don't to worry about it now if you do have a serious leak and rifle that's the kind of thing you want to talk to the to the manufacturer or you know if you hopefully you can see it in the good store before you actually take it home alright so just talk to us a little bit about now obviously just walked us through that later on build what tools would you need at home if you want to give you a build like this yourself so pretty much the the central point up on the Internet is going to be a cave builder comm those guys that have been doing this for a long time and we have all the tools there but you can buy them at Brownells and such and other places so there's there's a list of tools that you can use but there's you don't need all of them things are going to need or you have to rivet the short rivets it's rivet the long rivets you have to rivet the trigger guards so typically you have top the top tools also makes one short rivet crusher there's a long run a crusher if I make a builder that I use there's the regard to regard from a gay builder than they use those are just they're just Jake sets if these things and it just makes a lot easier you don't need to do it that you can do by hand I mean got there's you know guys in Afghanistan to do by hand in a Katy for the rock so you can't do it by hand but you get to the more professional look you're going to need a jig to do it that's just for that part you're going to you're going to need a harbor go to Harbor Freight it's probably you're going to be you're a friend Harbor Freight the 12-time press or the 20-ton press that they sell we use those all the time that's how you get your barrels in and out because otherwise you can't you're just not gonna be able to do it it's also how you get your barrel pens here in and out because they're press fitted in so that's the air native drill press to get these to drill these through the receiver in the first place and so you're looking at a substantial investment probably four hundred dollars just to start for your first rifle not including the kit and other probably small he knows you need as well know if you need punch with you can feel punches from from Walmart from such so just to get into it a little bit more involved than an ar-15 but it is doable it's possible and the build process is a little bit more complicated but again go check out Jeff's channel at the lab of season and I'll give you more actually if you do your own bill he's probably got a video on every step of the way that you can look at to get an idea of how the process is done well everybody thank you for watching that's all we have for you today if you enjoyed this video please consider hitting that like button or subscribing to our Channel if you have any questions you can leave those down in the comments section or go visit the web and season the Jess channel and bug him with those questions and he will be happy to take care of you on that again this is Chris with marksman shooting sports and let's go to Indiana and this is marksman TV joke from the web at Susan we will see you guys next time
