ever since i was a kid all i wanted to be was an explorer sail the seven seas find new worlds but uncle d everything's already been found what like everything well yeah oh man well so much for that but if i can't be an explorer i can still be an adventurer so i bought a motorhome and i'm hitting the open road my name is dustin porter and this is destination adventure [Music] this was a difficult one for me to film as a lover of history it's really difficult to see a property that was obviously once so loved fall into a state of such disrepair the dirlipe mansion is a beautiful 1925 6 bedroom 4 500 square foot home situated on a 30 acre parcel of beachfront property over the past century this has been home to the rich and the famous but the sad reality is that it may never be called home again the last owner of this property was famous film director john lee thompson and wife lucille but after jon's passing in 2002 the property was left empty and vacant like most abandoned properties the dear lepe mansion soon fell into the hands of vandals almost completely destroying the inside of this beautiful and historic home from the moment you walk through the gate it's clear that this is a very special property trees that are hundreds of years old are abundant on the acreage the once beautifully manicured gardens and lawns still peeking through the overgrowth and inside the house no detail was overlooked from the beautiful stone fireplaces right to the hand forge latches on every window [Music] this is amazing the house is right here and the ocean right there look at that it's amazing you can see something's fenced off in here i'm not sure maybe a garden or something where they could have had animals possibly the way that things are laid out in this fenced off area i think that this was probably a garden just the way the trees are located kind of in a big square here it's hard to tell though the regrowth is so fast here on the island everything grows back so quickly so it's really becoming overgrown fast in here such a beautiful property though hmm the floor is quite spongy wow it's big holy wow this would have been a beautiful house it is such a shame people have to spray paint on this [Music] [Applause] so amazing wow this would have been so beautiful giant timbers up here that's one solid piece both of these or three wow nice tile floor and i love this this wallpaper i really like that very cool all right upstairs first or downstairs i'm thinking upstairs oh my god this is an elevator wow oh again the vandals oh i don't like that just a closet if anybody knows what this is i'd love to know i don't think it's just a tiny little fireplace it could be though i'm not sure oh there's one in the room beside it this should be a wall right here it's been freaking smashed out by people which it sucks so bad because if you look at the roof here water's not getting in this place so without all this vandalism this place has been totally fine so like completely salvageable now it's gonna cost somebody like hundreds of thousands to fix all this not a huge fan of the color in here but it's a nice little bathroom tile floor again this closet like even this is nice this isn't real wood but real wood here framing and that would have been just paneling oh this is the elevator this is so cool but could you imagine seeing this without all the holes and everything so cool who has a freaking elevator in their house geez this is this is awfully weird i don't know why it's like that can't get through that door i see the door here but that was just a closet let's see if i can get in there after i see the rest of this ah here we go hmm this is still strange doorway here but what do you think this was i think this was probably master bedroom and then ensuite bathroom yep i wonder what that room was maybe just like a tv room or something i don't know i haven't been in many mansions i don't know how they live pretty fancy though [Applause] hmm secret rooms here or something oh no that's back to the main one oh there's two sets of stairs coming up here i see [Applause] this sure would have been a beautiful room big fireplace [Music] [Applause] so like a pantry probably the elevator there was some stairs going down here huh nope what the heck right here quite a large basement and it smells like diesel down here not too sure why hmm oh yes that's cool wow what a cool little elevator [Music] i love that that's neat that's some mold happening though [Applause] so [Applause] two hot water tanks that's it that's everything i consider myself very fortunate to have had the opportunity to see this property i only wish that i hadn't seen it in this state
