I told you Jesus raised three people in the Bible but that's another person Jesus read look at me I'm a testimony I didn't make it on my own I'm not standing here all alone it was Jesus anybody didn't know it was Jesus you paid for me you asked God to heal me well here I am this morning testifying the Taino body do men like Jesus can't nobody do men like the Lord have you tried him any all right any heart [Music] you I want to preach this morning about a true Mother's Day gift a true Mother's Day gift scripture says and he gave him to his mother if you give your children to Jesus he will give them back to you and he gave him to his mother the Bible records three instances three occasions three times that Jesus broke up three funerals every funeral he attended he broke it up he resuscitated he brought back to life three prisons in the New Testament four if you count me but there were three people in the Bible who were dead that when Jesus showed up they came back to life that was gyrus his daughter Lazarus had been dead for days and Jesus raised them from the dead and this young man whose mother is on the way to bury him her only son her husband is already dead she is a widow and she's on the way to the Graveyard with her only means of support this woman is in distress but before we get to her distress I want you to notice that the time oan of name sits high on a hill the gate to the city is down from that hill the cemetery is about eight or ten miles from the city but the town of nain is situated high on a hill the gate to the city is at the bottom of that hill cemeteries eight to ten miles away but the city of nain is high on this hill and get to the cemetery to get where she's going she has to come down to the city gate the city of nain is high on a hill cemeteries eight to ten miles away to get to where she's going she has to come down to the gate and it is down at the gate that she encounters Jesus the city is high on a hill the gate is low to the ground cemeteries eight to ten miles away to get to where she's going she has to come down and it is when she is down that she meets Jesus someone ought to help me preach a minute the city is on a hill the gate is at the bottom it is at the bottom that she meets Jesus and I hazard the hunch this morning that many of us met Jesus not when we were high it was when we were down that we encountered Jesus not everybody in here met Jesus at church I wish I had a witness here all of us wasn't raised in the church and if we were raised in the church you would like I was at church but not injured you read the Bible but you didn't know Jesus it was not until your life was all the way down that you found Jesus this woman meets Jesus at the city gate and this woman is in serious distress her only Son her husband is already dead she's a widow and now the only one who was alive to support her is dead she's in distress because in that time there were no social agencies to take care of poor widows there was no food stamp office there were no death benefits from Social Security she had no other family members that the Bible speaks of this boy her only son is dead she's on the way to bury him and after she buries him she has two choices she can either beg or become a prostitute nobody will care for her nobody will look out for her well-being socio historically this woman is in distress religiously emotionally psychologically everything that makes her who she is is in distress because soon she will have to support herself by means other than she planned in that time children did not put their parents in the nursing home they provided for them until they died because it was a sin to put away your parents in their old age because the promise of God is if your honor your mother and your father your days will be long on the land now listen when the scripture says your days will be long on the land I look this up when the scripture says your days will be long on the land he's not talking about numerical years your days will be long on the land means if you treat your mother and father right you'll have a blessed life you'll bless your going out you'll bless your coming in he'll take care of your finances he'll make a way for you he'll open doors for you because if you no good to your mommy and daddy you're gonna be no good to everybody else he will bless you with long life meaning he will bless you with a charmed life he will bless you with a life that is full of the rich blessings that can only come from God no matter how long you live this mother is on the way to bury her only child but I want you to see what happens when she encounters Jesus she's in distress because with this boy gone she will have to either have to become a prostitute or get on the street and being his woman will lose a dignity because socio historically if nobody is there to take care of her she will have to provide for herself the only way she knows how her husband is dead there are no family members that the Bible speaks of her only son is on the way to be buried in the cemetery but she and others at the bottom of the hill at the gate to the city she meets Jesus I want you to I want you to see something when she meets Jesus two crowds intersect two large crowds intersect one crowd is following the one the other crowd is following Jesus one crowd is weeping and mourning flutes are playing professional mourners have been hired there's weeping and gnashing of teeth the woman is easily recognized as a woman in mourning for she has torn her outer garment a large crowd is following her helping her weep and wail but then there's the crowd following Jesus and the crowd that is following Jesus and the crowd that is following the woman intersect they meet at the bottom of the hill at the entrance of the gate and when those two crowds come together something else happens there are now two sons face to face with each other one crowd is following Norman the other crowd is following Jesus but in those two crowds are two son one son is alive on his way to die one son is dead on his way to be brought back to life somebody gonna help me here in a minute but not only are there two crowds and two sons without two enemies death following the woman life following Jesus and when death and life intersect somebody got to give up the right away I wish I had my 7:30 cry when death and life cross paths somebody got to get on the sidewalk somebody got to step aside because death can't abide when life shows up I wish I had time to preach on today not only are there two crowds two sons and two enemies but there are two cities representing one is on the way to the silent City of the Dead the other is on the way to the city called heaven and everybody in lily Grove this morning is in either one of these two crowds we are one of these two sons we know one of these two enemies are we are headed to one of these two cities if you don't know Jesus Christ you are headed on your way headlong to hell but if you know Jesus Christ that's a city built on 12 foundations with four gates in the east and four gates in the West four gates in the north four gates in the south streets are paved with gold the walls are made of Jasper the gates are made of pearl but you've got to know Jesus Christ to make it to that city the Bible says when Jesus saw her he had compassion when he saw I wish they had a witness again now I want you to see this the miracle has not been asked for the woman never asks Jesus to do anything nobody in the crowd solicits any help from Jesus the woman doesn't even expect Jesus to do anything because she's on her way to bear it on the son she's overwhelmed she's overtaken by grief that only a parent who's there as a child can understand she's on the way to the cemetery to lay to rest her only son and she can't think of anything else because it is unnatural for a parent to bury a child she's lost in her own world she's ensconce in her own grief she's not looking even for Jesus let alone asking him to do anything in her grief-stricken stupor she does not see him but he sees her and I think or encourage somebody right here in your trouble and your stuff in your issues in your sorrow in your misery in your depression you may not see him but hallelujah thank you Jesus he sees you I need somebody here to help me testify I need somebody who's been through some stuff in your own life and you were so messed up you couldn't even pray you were so messed up in your stuff you couldn't even ask God for help but some ways somehow God brought you out and even when you did not see him he saw you when Jesus saw her he had compassion [Music] now when you read it from the King James Bible it has a strange kind of twist the woman is on the way to bury homeless son her husband is dead she relies I have to start begging or become a prostitute she's worried she's nervous she's depressed she's on the way to bearing on the son there are two crowds there are two sons two enemies two cities Jesus saw her had compassion on her and Jesus says something to her that sounds at first hearing strange she's on the way to bear on the child she has no other visible means of support and when Jesus sees her he says to her don't cry really she's on the way to laid to rest put in the ground home the child her husband is gone she will have to either have to start begging or become a prostitute and Jesus meets her and says to her don't cry what I don't have no money my bar is dead my husband is gone i'ma have to get on the street I'm gonna have to start begging what do you mean don't cry but an accurate reading of that translation from the original language Jesus does not say to her don't cry the literal translation of that text is stop crying stop crying is different from don't cry because when you're on your way to bury your only child crying it's the only response that can be elicited but Jesus says not don't try Jesus says stop crying stop crying the help you need has just showed up stop trying I'm here now dry your tears the one you need to help you is standing right by you somebody ought to help me preach it and Jesus is telling somebody right now dry your tears stop walking with your head down so I worry about who likes you and who does not like you stop worrying about those snakes who are trying to criticize you and get the best of you I'm here non-stop cry because help has just arrived you know like like like the woman with the large crowd of mourners many of us like a whole crowd of folk feeling sorry for us crying with us telling us things won't ever get any better and somehow it gets out on the depression hotline on the field sorry for yourself website where we are crying and people hate to ask you how you're doing you know some people like that you just see hi you don't want to ask them how you doing because you got to hear about their surgery and you got there you got to hear about how high that medicine is and you got to hear about my cheering don't call man you got to God you got to hear about how high food is and and how high gas is and pray for me I'm just trying to make it know I'm here but I don't feel good I came to church but I ain't right oh no I'll sure wish somebody would pray for me when Jesus shows up he strengthens you so that you can quit feeling sorry for yourself stop throwing pity parties that nobody shows up to but you God's been good to you and when the Lord shows up stop trying listen if you're gonna worry don't pray but if you're gonna pray don't worry somebody knows he'll show up he may not come when you want him but he's always on time and when he shows up he'll dry your tears he'll open doors that were closed in your face he'll make your enemies leave you alone he'll put food on your table he'll heal your body Jesus said stop crying and listen Jesus demonstrated why he wanted her to stop crying because he knew he was going to wake that boy Jesus was filled with such compassion that he did something that made him ceremonially unclean he touched the funeral bier on it was a dead body and that made Jesus ceremonially unclean but when you have compassion you don't stand on ceremony somebody ought to help me here [Applause] sometimes we can't see the forest for the trees because we are trying so hard to be Baptist and to be Christian that we can't see the forest for the trees no compassion I wouldn't hear but they told me that the last second sunday was annual Youth Day a fourth Sunday annual Youth Day and the youth showed up in t-shirts and blue jean so many of them that they couldn't even feel the Christ and they were all out in the end appeals and some church people [Applause] said that's a shame what kind of mess is this they're supposed to have on white socks black skirts white blouses the boys ought to have on white shirts and black trousers and black shoes who started this mess instead of saying they're not pregnant then not on dope they're not trying to break in somebody's house they're not dropping out of school they're making good grades at least they're Church shut up religious people show some compassion some of y'all so mean you know what's gonna happen to you [Applause] some of y'all so mean and ugly and hateful you know what's gonna happen to you you don't get old and be in a house by yourself full of cats nicking your food and nobody gonna come around and see you because you are so ugly and mean spirited and when you get like that old you would like that young it just took ol days to bring it out of talk back to me if you can move ceremony aside when it's time for you to be compassionate when you see somebody in need don't wait to be ass do what Jesus did and show [Applause] he touched the funeral bier and I want you to get this the Bible says that boy came back to life I'm not through yet he's not in a closed casket he's in a is on a plank a funeral kind of beer that's what they called a beer it's a plank is a board that they laid dead people on in Jesus day but he was wrapped in a burial shroud that was a linen cloth that bound and held him and for him to get up he had to get out he had to get out of what was holding him and this morning the Lord is trying to resuscitate somebody and he wants you to get up but before you can get up you got to get out thank you for tuning in to a call to Joy it is our prayer that the Word of God has brought joy strength and faith to your life we would love to have you as I guess that little grow of Missionary
