the gospel of matthew at chapter number 11 commencing in verse number 28 come unto me all ye that labor and are heavy laden and i will give you rest take my yoke upon you and learn of me for i am meek and lowly in heart and you shall find rest unto your souls verse 30 reads for my yoke is easy and my burden is light thank you you may be seated may the lord sanctify the reading hearing and doing of his holy word i want to talk tonight about how to handle what's handling you how to handle what's handling you you don't have to look far and you don't have to look long to know that this world we live in is in trouble stressors trials temptations and burdens circumstances and situations everywhere you turn that seems to be no cerses from the maladies and the male adjustments that plague our culture this young boy who was killed at lamar high school the other day these turf wars that these young black boys are having and none of them own any turf fighting in the streets turmoil in the schools california is on fire wars and rumors of wars burdens and depression the pharmaceutical industry is making billions of dollars a year because people can't sleep at night they need a pill to lay down they need a pill to get up everything seems to be off-center and off-kilter there's no balance there's no there's no real substance it seems to anything because people are looking for love in all the wrong places they're trying to find it in relationships you're trying to find it in a job or career you think that happiness and contentment comes from being successful only to discover that once you've climbed the ladder of success without christ is leaning against the wrong building they're trying to find it in drugs they're trying to find it in in alcohol they're trying to find it in joining another church or moving to another city or buying another house or getting another car the only problem with that is you got to drive it you got to live in it if you can get rid of you you can get rid of your problem you join another church looking for a perfect situation and the minute you join it just got messed up because you are not who you think you ought to be where can we where can we get a handle on what's handling us jesus said come unto me all he that labor and are heavy laden and i will give you rest take my yoke upon you and learn of me for i am meek and lowly in heart and you shall find rest for your soul for my yoke is easy and my burden is light i was watching the news and i was startled to hear this woman say this the fires that were going on in california in paradise california i was i was shocked to hear this woman being interviewed by a news reporter and the woman said candidly that god is on vacation he has forgotten to take care of us she said god is on vacation and he's forgotten to take care of us i wish i could contact her and say to her honey god is not on vacation god is right where he was when you were at home sunday somebody gonna help me preach here in a minute we don't know god until our house burns down or until our life catches on fire or until our child gets in trouble or we get a diagnosis from the doctor but god is right where he's always been ruling and super ruling the affairs of men and if you don't feel the presence of god in your life who moved god is right where he's always been god is right where he's always been in charge of this world if you don't feel god's presence god didn't move you moved walk with me around the text come unto me oh ye that labor and a heavy laden and i will give you rest take your burden new faith lily grove take your burden to the right place take your burden to the right place fretting over it is not the right place because if you're going to pray about it then don't worry and if you're going to worry about it then don't pray but fretting and prayer can't live under the same roof you if you're a child of god or life ought not just make you nervous every time you turn around or every time you hear a siren outside you jumping out the bed and running to the window any coming for you come on help me preach if you can everything that goes on makes you nervous you can't get yourself together what kind of christian are you that you think god has forgotten about you god will never leave you nor forsake you don't worry about what you're going to eat and what you're going to wear and what you're going to drink your heavenly father knows that you have need of those things he takes care of the birds of the air and if god takes care of sparrows surely god knows how to take care of you freddie is not the place for your burden friends not the place to bring your burden job helps us tonight to know that your friends are sitting with you for a while somebody ought to help me talk here and then after a while they start to cross-examine you and and and get all in your business and try to find out why you in the mess you in i wish i had one or two more believers here when i'm in trouble i don't need nobody coming to tell me i'm in trouble i got sense enough to know i'm in trouble i don't i don't need that i don't need you to come and tell me that i need you to come help me get out of trouble a friend is born for the day of adversity and if you are not there with me in my adversity you are not a real friend fighting is not a place for your burden because you might be fighting what god is up to in your life because some of the burdens that come to us don't come from the devil you may be blaming the devil for what god is up to in your life because god may be put in the trial that stress that burden in your life to stretch you to strengthen you to grow you because a christian without trials is like a soldier on parade you look good but you ain't worth nothing i wish i had somebody to help me here and brothers and sisters if your faith cannot be tested your faith cannot be trusted if god can't trust you with a burden if you faint in the day of adversity the bible says your strength is small if you run with the foot man jeremiah says and they have weared you how can you contend with horses if you can't make it in the land where peace and prosperity abide what are you going to do at the swelling of the jordan fighting is not the place for your bird fleeing is not the place for your bird because you're running away from it it's not going to make it go away you're going to run right into what you're trying to run away from because no matter how much you whine no matter how much you cry no matter how much you pull your hair out there are some things you're just going to have to go through there are some trials there are some burdens you're just going to have to man up you're just going to have to stand up under because god is not going to get you out of it you don't have to take my word for that the apostle paul said i went to the lord three times i wish i had a bible reader now ask god to move this thorn in my flesh the messenger of satan to buffet me lest i should be exalted above measure and i asked god three times to move it and god said my grace is sufficient and when paul found out that god was not going to move it he stopped whining he stopped complaining he said most gladly therefore will i rather glory in my infirmities that the power of god may rest upon me for when i am weak then am i strong god's strength can only be made perfect in your weakness friends fretting fighting fleeing not the place for your burden bring it to the father bring it to god free fleeing from it fighting with it fretting over it bringing it to friends bring it finally to your father because he cares for you god loves you in spite of you god is looking out for you even when you are not aware of it let me see if i can help somebody shout tonight since this morning do you know how many cars god slowed up to keep from running into you and how many cars god sped up to keep you from running into somebody ought to help me preach tonight have you ever been driving tired know you had no business driving and you got sleepy and uh you went a couple of miles and didn't even know how you got there god just put his hands on the steering wheel you know how many times your heart beat last night without you even being conscious of it god woke you up this it wasn't your alarm clock that woke you up this morning cause somebody's alarm clock went off this morning and they still sleeping somebody woke up this morning but they couldn't get up this morning if god got you up this morning if god opened the door for you if god has made a way for you you are to recognize that it's not your friends it's not fighting it's not fleeing it's the father [Music] i thank the lord tonight i thank the lord tonight my father was a deacon at our church and um he's going to be with the lord since 1985 and every time my family comes together we talk in hushed tones like my father's in the next room that's how we revered and respected him i came up in the time when parents were not afraid of their children the children were afraid of their parents uh my daughter said to me the other day uh daddy i love you and i respect you but i'm i'm i'm scared of you i said mission accomplished i want you to be terrified of me because i'm not your friend i got enough friends i don't need your friendship i'm your father i'm i'm i'm in charge i'm feeding you i'm providing for you i came up in a time when parents told their children what to do my father loved us he had a hard time saying it but he didn't have a hard time showing it because he got up every morning and went to work he took care of my mother and the rest of us in our family eight boys and two girls and we never went on the welfare because my father decided that those are my children and i'm going to take care of them but i'd hear my father on his knees praying and asking god to bless us with good and then he'd call every one of our names and then he asked the lord if you see my children walking in a way that i didn't raise them catch them by the reins of their mind i wish i had a witness and turn them around before it'll be a day and a time too late my father was a real man a real man's man i feared my father the sound of his voice seemed to make the house shake when my father called my name i just trembled all in my shoes because i revered my father one night my mother decided that she was going to give us breakfast for supper and she needed some clabber girl baking powder you got to be a certain age too to help michelle right here because she was getting ready to make some biscuits and she needed some clapper girl and some steen's ribbon cane syrup in that yellow can with that black right now somebody almost shouted right there but but but somebody had to go to the store and nobody wanted to go to the store and she said terry i needed to go to the store and i was scared because it was a dog in ms ella's yard but my daddy said come on boy i'll walk to the store with you and that dog was barking and there was no street lights on bueller street at the time and my daddy was walking behind me but that dog was barking i was afraid of that dog but i wanted them biscuits i wanted a syrup a cold glass of milk somebody don't help me shout here and the dog was barking and every once in a while i'd feel back there to see if my daddy was back there walking with me and i'd grab his pants legs and i said to that dog bark all you water bark my daddy is walking with me now if i felt that way about my earthly father when the devil gets on my trail i just reach back there and say father [Applause] i stretch is there anybody here is there anybody here had to reach back there and say father come to my rescue and he will show up take your burdens to the right place and then secondly transfer your burden to the right person he doesn't just say come he says come to me because listen brothers and sisters you can come to church and never come to him you can preach the gospel and never know him you can sing in the choir usher and be a deacon and never really know him come to me all who labor and are heavy leader don't miss that labor and a heavy lady labor is an active participle heavy laden is a passive participle meaning that some burdens you bring on yourself and then some burdens are just put on you and you ought to thank god tonight for the burdens that has been put on you because he trusts you to bear it and then thank god for the burdens that you got yourself in that he got you out of because brothers and sisters the shout tonight is not just what god brought you from but what god kept you from you're not so holy because you ain't been to jail you just ain't been caught yet i wish i had one or two more witnesses you're not so righteous because you're not in a crack house tonight god kept you from that you could have been dead sleeping in your grave you you you could have been found out but god in his infinite mercy not only does he deliver us from sin he keeps us from sin come unto me oh through that labor and are heavy leading and i will i will give you rest the rest that he gives can't be manufactured that's why when you when you enter into the father's rest your praise ought not be manufactured i have a problem with this with this choreograph staged managed praise there's a praise craze going on in our churches that that uh we we burn up with enthusiasm and uh you gotta high five three people and and and run around the building and cut a somersault and and come back in and stand on one leg and turn around into place and and spin on your head and all of that to demonstrate that you love god if god's been good to you nobody ought to have to evoke praise from you your praise ought not to be manufactured and managed and staged and choreographed if you're the only one on your pew if you're the only one in your section you ought to tell god thank you if you got to tell them by yourself listen i don't want you to do it now i mention this to lily grove i don't want you to do it now this this this is between me and you don't tell nobody if i hit on the street i'ma know where it came from don't tell nobody but i want you to do this sunday morning if you remember get you a little three by five card or or if they don't read small letters get you an eight by 11 sheet of paper and and about who likes me or who does not like me who's going to talk about me after churches let the redeemed of the lord say so god's been good to me i'm gonna put this little sign on here and if you don't want to get hit in the head you better move you better give me 50 feet because i'm about to give god my best hallelujah because he's done so much for me that i don't come here to form a fashion i don't come here to worry about who i'm sitting next to or worry about who's on my side or who's not on my if god before us who can be against us when you take your burden to the right person you learn to say what david said i've been young now i'm old yep have i never seen the righteous forsaken nor his seed begging bread lord is my light and my salvation whom shall i fear the lord is the strength of my life of whom shall i be afraid when the wicked even my enemies and my foes come upon me to eat up my flesh just before they get to me they stumbled and they failed though a host shouldn't camp against me and this will i be confident one thing have i desired of the lord and that will i seek after that i may dwell in the house of the lord all the days of my life here it is for in the time of trouble he shall he shall he shall hide me i want to tell somebody i want to tell somebody who's going through it tonight wait on the law and be of good courage he will strengthen your heart wait i say on the lord has thou not known has thou not heard that the everlasting god the father the creator of the ends of the earth there is no searching of his understanding he give it power to the faint and to them that have no might he increases their strength even the youth shall faint and grow weary and the young men shall utterly fall come on you can help me say it but they that wait upon the lord shall renew thy strength they shall mount up with wings like eagles they shall run and not get will they shall walk and not faint trust in the lord with all your heart lean not on your own understanding but in all your ways acknowledge him and he shall direct your path i wish i had one or two more witnesses here brothers and sisters when you trust god he'll make a way out of nowhere when you cast your calves on the lord you can go to sleep at night because he that keepeth israel will neither slumber nor sleep take your burden to the right place don't fret leave your friends alone don't fight don't flee take your burden to the right place bring them to the father and then transfer your burden to the right person but as i heard tonight trust your burden to the right provisions brothers and sisters as i hurry sometimes god will remove the burden that's what he did for that widow at zarephath that's what he did for mary and martha when lazarus died that's what he did for the widow of name whose son was dead he just put his hands on the casket and brought that boy back to life again that's what he did when all the hebs and randalls were closed and there was nowhere to buy any bread and that was a little boy with two fish and five barley loaves he said bring it to me he lifted it up to his father and brought it down and started adding by subtracting multiplying by dividing and when he got through there were 12 baskets left over he just took the burden away there was a wedding feast in cana of galilee and they ran out of wine and they went got some water pots and filled them with water and between the dipping and the sipping it became extraordinary wine he just removed that situation but sometimes god doesn't remove the burden he just relieves the burden take my yoke upon you and learn of me the yoke of bondage that that that makes us slaves to sin he comes with another yoke but it's a yoke of freedom we are free to do what he wants us to do and once we are free to do what he wants us to do not only does he put the yoke on us to bury it he gets underneath us and helps us to carry the load we still burying it but we got some help now i wish i had somebody to help me we are still struggling underneath it but he just comes alongside to help us that's the job of the holy spirit the peroclitos the paraclete the one who comes alongside to aid us in the time of need we can come boldly and find grace and mercy to help us in the time of need sometimes he removes the burden and sometimes he relieves the burdens but as i heard to the close there are times when he just comes and gives us rest in the midst of our burden you're going to help me close this won't you shadrach meshach and abednego they were in this situation when nebuchadnezzar said when you hear the sackbut and the harp the flute and the liar everybody is to bow down and worship this golden image and if you don't bow down you will be thrown immediately into a burning fiery furnace one day the music started and everybody in the kingdom bowed but shadrach meshach and abednego he went and told the king and they said these men that you put over us these men that you made counselors over us when the music started they refused to bow down the king said bring them in brought them in and said now shut the rack me shack in the bed and go perhaps you didn't get the email maybe you were not privy to our conversation so let me go over this one more time when the music starts everybody bows down and worship this golden image and if you don't bow you will be thrown immediately into the burning fiery furnace mr king we're not careful to answer you in this matter we don't have to have a meeting in the family life center at the church we don't have to caucus and decide what we're going to do we've already made up our mind that the god we serve is able and he will deliver us out of your hand and the bible says the king got so angry that he heated the fire seven times hotter than it was normally he did it was so hot that the men who threw him in were immediately incinerated they bound them with wool caps and wool blankets and tied their wrists and their ankles and threw them in the midst of the burning fiery furnace closed the door sat down on his throne and thought that they would be immediately incinerated but then the king looked in somebody ought to help me preach it and when the king looked in he said didn't we throw three men bound in the fire somehow ought to help me preach him don't miss that didn't we throw three men bound in the fire let me say it one more time so you can get it didn't we throw three men bound in the fire they said yes we did o king he said well i see four now and they are loose walking around in the fire that word in the text loose means they are dancing in the fire and the fourth one looks like the son of god and he must have been in there jesus must have been in there because the book of the revelation says his hair was like lamb's wool his legs were like polished stone his feet were like marbled stone like though they had burned in a fiery furnace he didn't get him out he just got in there with her and tonight there's somebody here you still sick but you're praising god anyway you still got some financial situations but you're praising god anyway that's still some trouble in your family but you praising god anyway you still got some crazy children but you're praising god anyway it's still hell on your job but you praising god anyway it's still some hitch in your get along but you're giving god glory anyway because god did not get you out of it he just got in it with you daniel within a lion's den i wish i had one or two more bible reading he threw daniel in the lion's den and daniel couldn't fight but the lord made sure that the lions wouldn't bite daniel all night laid down on the back of a lion hungry lions and daniel listen to this daniel was in the lion's den sleeping and the king who threw him in couldn't sleep when you trust god he'll mess your enemies mine up your enemy will think that they've gotten the best of you but god will open another door and let you get out and your enemies are looking for you over here and god got you over there fret not yourself i wish i had somebody to help me because of evil doers need to be envious against the workers of iniquity they shall soon be cut off like grass and wither like the green earth the king got up couldn't sleep that night got up and went to the lion's den and shouted down in that den oh daniel has your god been able to deliver you and daniel shouts back all king all night all day god's been taking care of me and i need somebody in here tonight who's had some burdens in your life that you just couldn't seem to get yourself out of there are some situations that happen to you that a lesser person would have given up i wish i had one or two more witnesses stop letting these people tell you on television these fortune prophets who talk about a miracle a day keeps the devil away and all you need is faith in god and you're not going to have any problems stop going to these women thou art loose conferences because look like to me if you get loose one time that ought to loosen you up kind of for the rest of your life come to sunday school if you want to get loose come to bible study come to prayer meeting i wish i had some lily grove members in here trust in the lord come on bring your tithes bring your money don't sow a seed in bishop so-and-so ministry come and do what's right at the lord's house and when you trust god with your stuff god will make a way out of nowhere somebody here has stood up under some unusual trial somebody here's had some burdens to keep you up in the night but god has seen you through and so people wonder why you praise god with such energy why you praise god with such enthusiasm they wonder why when they get a cd all they hear is you hollering and screaming they already know who's making all that noise because god's just been that good to you and you don't care what anybody's opinion is of you because brothers and sisters listen if you don't know who you are people will tell you who they think you are they will define you according to their specification but don't let anybody bury the light of your praise under the bushel of their expectation because they don't know what god brought you through the operative word here is he brought you through and when god brings you through you ought to come on the church and give god some praise i wish i had one or two more witnesses who's had to bring your burdens to the lord and the lord made a way out of nowhere you've had to cast your cares upon him you did everything you knew how to do you prayed and cried you shouted and gave god your best but the situation hasn't turned in your favor but you've just decided that i'm going to praise god anyway i'm going to give god the glory no matter what tomorrow brings i don't care what the mayor is doing i don't care what that fool in the white house is doing i don't care what's going on in the country i'm getting up on sunday morning and i'm going to take my burdens to the lord i'm going to get up on wednesday night and come on to revival and shout nobody knows that i'm broke i'm just shouting because god promised me that he would open the windows of heaven and pour out blessings that not i would not even have room enough to receive them you don't know how bad somebody is feeling in here tonight they just came to give god their burdens and praise god in spite of their situation i need a real live praise there tonight a real short worshiper tonight who's had to bring your burdens to the lord some stuff that was laid on you but some stuff you got yourself into but the lord delivered you the lord opened a door for you there's nothing in your background that says you ought to be as blessed as you are tonight there's nothing in your upbringing that says you ought to be as far as you are right now so why do you sit here and act like you brought yourself why sit here and act like it was an education that did it for you you know how many people have a college degree and they have nowhere to sleep tonight how many people were raised in a good family in jail tonight god's been good to me i said god's been good to me and i don't need anybody's encouragement i don't need anybody's provocation when i think about the doors he's open the tears he's dry the prayers he's answering the ways he's made i just believe that if god's been good to you you ought to tell god thank you if god has made a way for you you ought not be embarrassed tonight to tell god thank you for all you've done for me don't bring your burdens to your friends don't bring your breads to anybody but jesus you gonna help me close this won't you if the world from you with holes of its silver and its gold and you have to get along with mega fair just remember in his word how he feeds the little bird take your burden to the lord and leave it there you're gonna help me close this won't you when your youthful days are gone an old age is stealing on and your body bends beneath the weight of care he will never leave you then he'll go with you to the end take your burdens to the lord and leave it there you're going to help me close this won't you leave it there leave it there if you trust and never doubt he will surely bring you out maybe there's somebody here tonight who don't really know who i'm talking about i feel like calling that name right now because that's power in that name that's peace in that name there's love in that name there's a hope in that name there's a help in that name there's deliverance in that name there's salvation in that name come on help me call that name come on help me talk about it he's a rock in a weary land he's a shelter in a time of storm he's a friend when you're friendless bread when you're hungry water when he infested y'all know him don't you these adam's redeemer he's abel's vindicator he's abraham's sacrifice he's noah's ark he's moses bush on fire he's joshua's battle axe he's gideon's fleece he's samson's power he's david's music he's solomon's wisdom he's jeremiah's bomb in gilead y'all know him don't you he's god's only son he's mary's baby boy he's james and jude's older brother y'all know him don't you he's matthew's king mark suffering servant luke's great physician john's word made flesh acts coming of the holy ghost the only begotten of the father full of grace and truth y'all know him don't you i haven't even called that name yet and some of y'all about to shout right now he walks with me he talks with me he tells me i am his own i haven't even called his name yet and you about to run all over this church he's a bridge over troubled water he's a friend for the friendliest he's a mother for the marvelous he's a father for the fatherless i haven't even called his name yet y'all about to shout right now he's a lily of the valley he's a bright morning star he's a rose of sharon he's a day spring of israel he's a desire of all nations y'all know him don't you he's the everlasting father he's the prince of peace he's a wonderful counselor he's a mighty god y'all know him don't you help me call him right now jesus jesus jesus born in bethlehem jesus read in nazareth jesus baptized in the jordan he died didn't he die sunday morning he arose didn't he right with all power come on help me call him jesus jesus is on the main line
