A Look Back At The Sanei Sonic The Hedgehog Plushes!

[Music] when we talked about previously released Sonic the Hedgehog plushies we usually bring up the ones released in the 90s and in the early 2000s however there have been more modern sonic plush sets that have recently picked up in popularity and one of those plush sets are the Sonic plushies made by Sanae this is the company Sanae is regarded as one of the best video game plush merchandise makers out there they're best known for their Mario plushies but that's not all they've done is they have a long history of making merchandise based off of other franchises too they've made really great sets based off of franchises such as Animal Crossing Megaman Pikmin and in this videos case Sonic the Hedgehog in this video I won't be looking at just a one set but two sets in this video I'll be looking at both sanae Sonic sets D telling their many pros cons and basically everything you need to know about them I've been wanting to make this video for a very long time I made it a personal challenge with myself to not make this video until I completed both set and well does that happen so without any further ado welcome to a look back at the Sanae a Sonic the Hedgehog plushies [Music] these plushies were released in Japan by Sanae in both 2007 and 2012 both sets are extremely different and stand out from each other but since they're both made by today I'll be covering both sets in this video with that said though both sets contain nearly the same characters the 2007 set contains Sonic Tails knuckles and Amy all in a smaller size as well as a medium larger sized Sonic the 2012 set contains Sonic Tails knuckles Amy and wall drops the medium sonic the set add shadow there were many ways you could have acquired these plushies back when they were new for both sets they were of course available in shops in Japan as well as online etc but they were also available in many import shops and could be found online on import sites too so they were pretty easy to acquire outside of Japan one way that you could have acquired these plushies was through purchasing them at joy palace Sega's arcade theme park in Japan when both sets were new they were always stocked and on sale at joy polish in the gift shop unfortunately though it seems joy pawns no longer has these plushies anymore as both sets have been long since out-of-print back when they were first released the 2007 set retail for 1029 yen for the smaller plushies and two thousand and 100 yen for the medium Sonic the 2012 set had to price points depending on the character Kailas knuckles and Amy were 1480 n while sonic and Shadow were 1680 n I guess sonic and Shadow took more resources to be made which makes sense given their larger features such as their spikes these sets continue to stand out against other Sonic plush sets as some of the highest-quality Sonic plushies out there and while the sets aren't that old they've certainly become very desired and will most likely continue to be in the future I have a lot to say on these plushies so let's not waste any time again right into the first plush we'll be looking at is the Sonic from the 2007 the first plus we'll be looking at today is the small size 2007 sonic now let me start with this I'm going to be praising these sets along this video so I feel starting with a negative is justified and I have to get this point across the 2007 set and the 2012 set to some extent suffer from a general lack of quality control I'll touch more on this later but in the case of my sonic here it has a few issues for example his legs are attached in a way that always makes them go inwards and also it seems one of his hands or one of his arms wasn't attached correctly you can really tell that his hands aren't symmetrical these are problems that are seemingly exclusive to my sonic and if you were to get one it may or may not have these issues but either way they're worth pointing out Senay products usually have really good quality control so I'm not sure what happened with these two sets anyway let's talk about the plush itself his face I think is one of the strongest parts about this plush this is a very unique looking set and their faces I think play a large role in making them stand out the eyes of the plushies in the set are really something great they're large and fully embroidered the eyes are probably my favorite part of Sonic's face I think they look really great even if they are somewhat large compared to what we're used to the whites of Sonic's eyes are made using a synthetic material so they have a different texture to them the one problem with Sonic's face on my plush at least is his nose it seems he just didn't get enough stuffing in that part of his muzzle resulting in his nose not being straight this is a common issue with Sonic plushies but it's unfortunate to see on this guy as without in his face will be pretty much perfect the separation between parts of Sonic's body such as his eyes and muscle all looks very well-executed and clean this plush is very well designed for the most part the problems only come from poor manufacturing Sonic's mouth is interesting because it's made of black embroidery all of the other plushies in this set use Brown embroidery for their mouths only sonic and medium sonic used this color make Sonic seem a little inconsistent with the rest of the set Sonic's ears are a good size but the insides of his ears aren't lined up that well Sonic spikes are long and they are proportionate to each other though they do seem a little thin for the most part Sonic's head looks really nice and his body is pretty nice as well Sonic's arms and legs are decently short which is interesting considering at this point Sonic was shown to be pretty tall I think it makes for a nicer looking plush though his legs are attached to his body towards the front which from the side looks pretty strange but this was probably done so that the plush could pull off a more natural-looking sitting pose Sonic's arms and legs are very thin and to be honest they aren't stuff that well they're very floppy which would seem good in summer birds but in my plushies case it may actually be what causes its legs to move inwards like that they just start really stiff Sonic's hands are well made have the right amount of fingers indicated by stitching on them as well as a pattern thumb so that's all good however as I stated earlier one of my Sonic's arms wasn't attached correctly resulting in one of his hands going the opposite way it should sonic shoes look very good as of right now at least see Sonic's white stripe on his shoe is made of a vinyl like material this material is known to crack and peel over time if not maintained well these plushies are still relatively new so this isn't a big issue quite yet but give it five ten years and I think we may start seeing these plushies with damaged shoes as is the case with many old Sonic plushies thankfully sonic shoes are the only part of this entire plush that that uses this type of material however Sonic's buckle while it is cut nicely is made of felt which can easily attract dust and stuff like that as sanae's first attempt at a sonic plush he definitely misses the mark in some regards but overall I think he's a very unique and cool-looking plush the plush sets tag is really simplistic but I think it looks great it has a blue background with the English Sonic the Hedgehog logo on top of it as well as Japanese text reading stuffed toy the tags also have a sticker on them indicating that they are an officially licensed Sega product along with that they also have copyright Sega listed for good measure the back of the tag is a lot more generic it's the style that was used on a lot of snake tags from the time however it does have the sonic logo and text next to it in this case reading sonic stuff toy s or small that's the only bit of the tag that's character specific as the rest of the tag is Universal for the entire set it does however have an sto 7 shown on it showing that these were indeed made in 2007 they definitely could have done more with the tag design but it looks unique enough and I think it fits the set quite well here's the sets touch tag it has the Sonic the Hedgehog logo as well as a Sega copy right on the front and Japanese text on the back said I believe reads something like say a plush toy with made in China under it as for 2007 s Sonic's rarity it's very hard to pinpoint a price on these guys I've seen a few listings for this sonic in the past few months thankfully most of the time they aren't asking for too much I got my Sonic in March of 2017 in a lot with 2007 tails and 2012 Amy and I only paid around 20 dollars each for Sonic and Tails is there was one email listing that was asking for a price of 112 dollars for him and it apparently sold however I do believe that this was just a fluke listing and you can definitely find this guy for way cheaper at the of me making this video there is one on ebay for around $30 and considering this set is pretty much a decade old at this point that's not a bad price at all so with all that taken into consideration I'd price 2007 small sonic at around twenty five to thirty five dollars you can certainly still find them for cheap even if it will take waiting for that one perfect listing to show up but wait we are done with 2007 sonic just yet as is the case with many Sanae sets so they didn't make plushies in just one size they released the sonic plush in both the 7-inch small scale size we just looked at as well as this 12-inch medium size I said that while the small sonic is flawed he's really charming but still he has flaws this medium sonic on the other hand doesn't it's just a really great plush to be fair this is essentially the smaller Sonic sized up however comparing the two there are some noticeable improvements on the medium sonic and there are some differences between them those differences however are likely just due to the fact that this plush is larger meaning his details are now more pronounced think of this plush as basically a premium version of the smaller Sonic is the whole plush overall scenes that are constructed than the small sonic this was the case on the smaller sonic but it's really noticeable here Sonic's nose is made of a velvet material and its really smooth to the touch it's different than what the rest of the plush uses but I'd say it's a nice addition sonic space here looks way better than it did on the smaller plush his nose sticks out forward and his eyes look fantastic Sonic's eye ridges are very large and they aren't stitched to the plush this was the case on the smaller sonic but here the eyebrows are more pronounced so it's much more noticeable Sonic's muscle was just as good as it did on the small plush however his mouth has one small issue once again it seems like this is just an issue on my plush but at the end of Sonic smirk the embroidery isn't fully done this isn't that noticeable and isn't a common issue but it is worth pointing out his ears look perfect though as do his spikes the spikes are probably one of those plushies best features is they're pretty thin but they are patterned exceptionally well same goes for his back spikes and tail Sonic's arms and legs here have much better stuffing than what my small sonic had as do his hands and shoes Sonic's hands are very well made and look much better than the smaller Sonic's hands though both Sonic's don't really have any cuff details Sonic shoes look good though once again they used the same material used on the small plush oh no I think this plush is a great addition to the set he does kind of stick out when you look at the full set as he's the only 2007 medium plush which is a shame because if sonic looks so much better here who knows how great medium-sized versions of the other characters could have looked I basically have no complaints about medium sonic going off of mine at least other medium Sonics I've seen casually look pretty bad he still suffers from poor stuffing in some places and may not look entirely accurate to how sonic looks now but this plus shows sanae's true and vision of their 2007 sonic and overall he's much better than the smaller sonic and is just a great plush as for this guy's rarity he's on the rarer side medium sonic was definitely just an extra addition to this set I imagine the smaller set with Snaith priority when making these and they added medium sonic as a bonus that means they most likely didn't make as many of him as they did smaller Sonic's or maybe even any of the smaller plushies I personally got mine for around $40 which I feel was definitely worth it if you can get this guy for that much I'd say go for it I'd priced him at around 45 to 55 dollars I could totally see him going for more and he doesn't show up that often but I'd say that's a fair price for him but that's it for the 2007 Sonics let's move on to the other characters here's what I believe to be the best plush in the 2007 cent miles tails Prower this is a phenomenal tails plush and here's why I think this plush perfectly captures tails his design I really don't have many negatives to say on this plush tails his face looks great his mouth is centered which at this point was commonplace on tails merchandise and his eyes are once again very large and look really nice with the teal color tails his eyes are known for and his nose is made out of a hard plastic which is always an appreciated touch on tails plushies tale says cheek tubs are one of the only slight downsides to this plush for the most part they are nice-looking however the individual parts of it sometimes aren't really cut that well that goes for his chest Tufts too in fact one of my tails his chest Tufts is split which is yet another example of a quality control issue with these plushies tail so things are an orange-colored piece of fabric in fact it's two pieces of fabric glued together making the bangs very stiff and the way they're stitched into the plush makes them always go to the side which is good Chelsey's overall head shape is very well patterning and is very proportionate to his body his body itself is very round what's his stomach being well separated and centered his arms and legs are all stuffed tails his gray buckles are made from felt and once again his hands look very nice his shoes look just like they should though mine are somewhat oddly stopped making the bottom of them not very flat this plus just captures Taylor's look perfectly and what expression it even shows some of the characters personality if you had the chance to get any plus from this set I'd suggest getting tails as four tails as rarity he is unfortunately pretty hard to find I assume a lot of people want this plush is thus creating a lot of demand for him I've seen this guy sell for well over $100 in the past so like I said I got mine for only around $20.00 and cheaper ones have shown up I'd price tails at around 30 to 50 dollars the thing with this set is that at first they may seem really hard to find but actually you just need to know where to look I've seen these guys on many sites besides eBay and while yes a lot of them are out of stock there are some that at the time of me making this video at least do still have these guys in stock I specifically see them on a lot of international sites this set is still out there and if you look hard enough you will eventually find them moving on here's the 2007 knuckles okay all the plushies in this set have some flaws and yes Sanae did take some creative liberties when designing them but for the most part I feel those make these plushies cool and may even add to their appeal as it makes them unique but I feel Sanae went a bit overboard with this knuckles well he has things going for him he's not exactly all that accurate as you can immediately notice some of his dreads are sticking out words and ways they shouldn't this is an issue that was basically outside of this plushies control see these plushies were all sold to stores sealed and bag and for whatever reason it seems Sanae took no care into making sure that the plushies actually fit into set bags so when these knuckles were put into the bag no one seemed to check if it's dreads were being pushed up by the small bag it was in and that was unfortunately the case with my knuckles and to make that even worse I got this knuckles in 2016 and it was new and it's bagged assuming it was manufactured in 2007 that was nine years of this knuckle was having its dread to be pushed up by the bag I have tried to bend them back lean stuff on them etc but after nine years it seems that's just the way this knuckles is going to be let's start necklaces face off with what should immediately stick out to you his muzzle the one thing that's off about knuckles his muscle is well his no stick sound really far I have no idea why Sanae made it stick out so far but that's just how it was made it looks fine from the front but for most angles it looks pretty strange knuckles does have some depth to his muscle but it is certainly not this extreme also knuckles his nose is it made from the same velvet material that Sonics was it's simple synthetic there's a real lack of consistency with many aspects of this set isn't there knuckles his mouth looks fine and though I think it would have looked better if it wasn't so sharp looking though it does give off the angry look they were probably trying to achieve with him his irises have a nice deep purple color to them and looked just as nice as Sonic and Tails it and his eyes do have that gap in between them as Knuckles is usually depicted to have however while Sonic does have a distinct brow Ridge Knuckles doesn't this is a totally strange design choice given how angry he's supposed to look he really should have some detail there but he doesn't and that is a huge oversight on sanae's part his dreads if they were positioned as they were intended would look pretty nice is there all the correct lengths that are stuffed pretty well knuckles his body is really round looking which is weird because Sonic and Tails an especially Amy body aren't nearly as rounded stocky looking knuckles as crescent moon shape is there and is embroidered which is pretty nice though I feel it's a bit thin and not as pronounced as it should have been his tail is appropriately long and is actually pretty well designed it has the sharp hook like design but knuckles his tail should have knuckles his arms and legs are more of the same with what we saw with Sonic and Tails knuckles his hands are in fists and they're pretty large his actual spiked knuckles are there he has a visible thumb though the way they handled the rest of his hand coming together to form a fist doesn't really look that nice it has some pretty messy stitching there knuckles his shoes on the other hand I think look really nice he has his green socks that look pretty nice and his shoes look pretty accurate the metal plates on his shoes are made of a piece of felt that's been stitched to the shoes and the rivets on the plates are made of a vinyl transfer material as are the stripes on his shoes so I think this knuckles looks okay he is probably my least favorite in the sense though I guess at least he's still unique we probably will never see another knuckles plush that looks quite like this one and for what it's worth it's decent as for knuckles is rarity okay get this to this day you can still find 2007 knuckles were pretty cheap and buy pretty cheap I mean retail price I personally got my knuckles new for only eighteen dollars back in November of 2016 some stores still have leftover stock of this plush and it seems like knuckles is definitely the most common of the entire set I guess people really didn't find this buckles as appealing compared to the others or maybe Sanae just overproduced him who knows whatever the reason knuckles to this day is pretty common I'd say is only worth around twenty to twenty-five dollars some sonic plush sets out there only do the main trio however Sanae went the extra mile and made a name eros just like tails this is another standout plush in this set starting with their head it looks pretty accurate her eyes are nice and large and she does have her eyelashes her eyeliner is made of embroidery well the actual eyelashes are made of synthetic Amy's noses correctly smaller than Sonic's but once again it lacks the velvet material used on Sonic's her mouth is to the side of her muzzle which is actually pretty uncommon to see on Amy merchandise Amy's ears are basically the same as Sonic's but her bangs are unique they're not like tails's as they have a layer of soft material over them though they are still made of two separate pieces glued together to make them more sturdy her headband is a simple piece attached to her head and it is pretty thin I think the one on 2012 Amy looks much better but more on that later Amy spikes look alright there's a front to look really good as they curve around her head nicely though Amy's back spike is kind of awkward looking it shoots out way farther than it should the underside of it isn't soft too as though I assumed that at least was a cost-saving measure Amy's head looks very unique and suits the plush well her body and dress also looked very good her dress is completely made from synthetic with the white lining highlighting the dress nice plate her dress is patterned in a way to accurately reveal her back amy's arms are kind of poorly stuffed but they are attached to the plush well is the ring bracelets on her wrists look alright but they don't really sell the look of golden rings they basically look like yellow gloves cuffs Amy's hands once again look great but they're the same as Sonic's and Tails is Amy's legs are mostly covered by your dress but looks fine and she has her tail amy's boots overall look pretty nice does the white lining is on them don't line up perfectly but their overall design is pretty nice I'd say 2007 Amy is a must-have from this set my favorite in this set is still tails but amy is a close second but tails and Amy I think are where Sanae really shines with this set as for Amy's rarity she's decently hard to find just like tail I've seen this plush sell for $200 before which is honestly pretty crazy I've also heard of her selling for around $80 which is less crazy I guess but I got mine in November of 2016 for $40 and I've heard of other people who have gone Amy for comparable prices if you just wait long enough and look hard enough you will be able to find her for a good price even if it takes some time for a good one to show up does that conclude the set released in 2007 it's a flawed but really cool set all of the plushies in this set are really good I'd say this set as a whole is pretty fantastic so they clearly had some improvements to do with making Sonic plushies but no one's perfect on their first try are they the 2007 set were going to be sold until around 2010 it's hard to pinpoint the time around when Sanae stopped production on these guys but I'd guess somewhere around 2009 and 2010 after 2010 they continued to be easily available for a while even after that as they weren't exactly that popular and were made for a decent amount of time however they did eventually fade away and nowadays it is somewhat hard to find them this set stands as an interesting footnote in Sanae Sonic history but nowadays they're kind of overshadowed by a newer set today introduced yes roughly five years after releasing the 2007 set Sanae came back to Sonic thankfully after the 2007 set they didn't completely give up on Sonic it took 5 years but they did eventually release a new set of Sonic plushies introducing the 2012 San a sonic plush set despite being made by the same company both of these sets are basically completely different in terms of design style and pretty much everything else this set was released towards the end of summer 2012 around September of 2012 from what I can find the 4 characters that were also available in the 2007 set have been completely reimagined for this set they look almost nothing like the 2007 plushies in terms of design since this set is pretty recent all things considered there's actually a good chance a lot of you watching this video have a few of these up until pretty recently most of them were obtainable in one way or another and they still continue to show up from time to time as well the 2012 set has since become much more popular than the 2007 set ever one and there's a good reason for that I believe that this set is one of the best Sonic plush sets to come out in recent memory so let's look at them starting of course with the 2012 sonic here it is one of my favorite sonic plushies in the recent time the 2012 tonight sonic yeah this is a personal favorite of mine standing at roughly nine inches tall sonic here is looking really good comparing Sonic to recent artwork of him you can see that to make a purchase current likeness very well this sonic as well as the 2007 sonic are both colored a lighter blue color than Sonic is usually shown to be just compared Sonic to the artwork of him on his tag the 2012 scent has a very vibrant color scheme to them so I think this color choice was for the best the plushies once again made from a very soft material which is to be expect from Sanae Sonic's nose is made using a rough synthetic material and not the velvet material I was used on a previous sonic it still looks nice though and on my sonic it goes out pretty straight Sonic's eyes here are more accurately proportion to its face than the 2007 plush and still have that great embroidery that today is known for is they do look a little cross-eyed but that's fine if the white subsonics eyes aren't made with synthetic this time but instead use the same soft material that was used on the rest of the plush Sonic's brow Ridge is nowhere near as pronounced as it was on the 2007 sonic but I think it looks much better it also was fully attached to the plush which is good Sonic's mouth is once again smirking and is made of brown embroidery his muzzle is rounded and is patterned well the only slight problem here is that where it connects to his body it comes to a point which it shouldn't the separation of Sonic's eyes and the rest of his head on my plush is a bit jagged in some places but I don't think that takes much away from the overall quality of this plush you'll notice that he has a plastic hook attached to his head Sanae started doing this with almost all their plushies by the time this set came out most people will probably rip it off but I think it's a cool addition to them Sonic's ears are well stuffed and have depth to them Sonic spikes look incredible way better than they did on the 2007 plush he of course has all six spikes and they're all individually patterned being their own size and they have some curve to them Sonic's body is nicely proportioned and from the front looks great it does look slightly more squared than it should and once again his legs are attached at the front of his body but this was once again done to help the plush paw at sitting pose which this entire set can achieve pretty well Sonic's back spikes do curved off to the side which is nice and his tail is totally stuffed and goes upward Sonic's arms and legs are nicely stuffed and his hands look just as they should they're also very firm and well stuffed and Sonic socks look just as good as you'd expect I guess then they realized that the materials they used on the original Sonic shoes weren't the best so they opted to use kinetic material with embroidered edges for the shoes here actually none of the plushies in this set you've spelt or vinyl materials instead using embroidery and synthetic materials which I think makes them appear much higher quality I've always liked how issues curved downwards looks much better and more realistic than just the standard shape which is what most Sonic plushies have the bottom of Sonic's shoes and actually the entire set shoes lacked tread details on the soles of the shoes I guess it's not that important but it would have been cool to see it being corporated here here's the newer Sonic compared to the older small Sonic you can tell that today really refined the designs for the 2012 set and here's all three Senay Sonic's together even though 2007 medium sonic looks really good think 2012 sonic looks the best out of all of them the sets touch tag once again has the Sonic the Hedgehog logo and a Sega copyright on the front and text on the back that reads Sanae Cole imminent made in China here's the tag for the 2012 set the tag once again has the sonic logo and Japanese text reading stuffed toy however this time so they included some really nice 2d artwork of the characters I've said in the past that I think the sonic characters look the best in this 2d art style so this is very much welcome Sonic's in a bit of an unconventional pose almost like he's presenting the boxes containing artwork of the four other characters the tags are universal for all characters this is pretty understandable and at least the tags include all of the five characters the tags also have this glossy laminated layer on top of them making them very smooth and seem high quality you do have to watch out for this as over time the layer can get damaged for example the layer on my knuckle if this tag is already starting to come off the insides of the tag up really nothing interesting going on and for the most part the back of the tag is the same way though it does still have the license by Sega sticker as well as more legal info interesting tidbit right here it says Made in China however not all the plushies tags say that some actually say made in Vietnam I guess some were made there if you look at the name listed on the tag it says Sonic M or size medium however there aren't any small or even large plushies to the set they are pretty large but they aren't nearly as large as 2007 medium sonic so maybe this was done to make them stand out from the small size 2007 cent I'd say these tags look great the use of 2d artwork enhances the style and look of the tags and I think the overall design looks really good as for Sonic's rarity it's pretty complicated ok so this set was first released in late 2012 and they continue to be manufactured until round 2014 they then continue to be in stock on sites and in Japan and tour around 2015 when around then they started to go out of stock I got my sonic off of Amazon around a year after he came out in September of 2013 and I paid around $25 for him which was the average retail price for these guys around that time after that I continued to see him go for around that price and once they started they got a stock I actually started to see them go for cheaper actually I don't have any archive of it but I distinctly remember seeing a lot of both the Sonic and the Knuckles plush for only $15 won so yeah at one point these plushies were really cheap but they did eventually all go out of stock and nowadays it can be somewhat tricky to find them but as they're still relatively recent Sonic at least doesn't go for a lot of money for example there was an eBay auction that actually happened while I was making this video and in its Sonic 1 for $10 that's crazy I'd say 20 to 30 dollars is a good price for Sonic but that's only for now and his value will probably increase in the future there is one last thing I need to mention about Sonic though and it's pretty important back in November of 2016 Sega held its annual Sega fest and at the event you could purchase a variety of Sega good and one of the items for sale in 2016 was new stock of the Sonic plush this made almost no sense this set had been out of print for well over a year at this point so how did they have so much new stock of it and yes this is new stock Sonic got a re-release in fact the 2016 release of the plush did have a slightly different tag the inside design of the tag was different as you can tell with this comparison and it doesn't stop there shortly after the Sega Fest event sonic got a complete restock he was on Amazon Japan for retail price being sold by many sellers and he even made his way to Amazon u.s. he was $40 which is a bit much but considering they were all from Japanese sellers who would have to ship them from Japan that's not that bad of a price so what's going on here my guess is this maybe they were testing the waters were three releasing this Sonic and well he sold out again so I guess he had to have sold well is this a sign that we will be seeing soon a return to Sonic eventually or at least will they start manufacturing the 2012 set again who knows but clearly something is happening but that's all just speculation and I feel we've send more than enough on the sonic so let's move on to tails the 2017 us was exceptional so how good is the newer tales well he's still really good though I feel this plush does fall short in some places for example his face specifically his expression all the plushies in this set shows some real emotion but with tales it looks like he's kind of just staring at nothing with a really generic smiley expression it still looks nice but I don't know compared to the 2007 channels at least something's off tales his eyes are really big so I think they somewhat lacked the sense of expression we saw in the 2007 plush his muscle still goes pretty far out words and he still has a plastic nose his mouth is simple stitching and while it looks pretty basic it's perfectly fine tells us cheek Tufts look good and Tails his bangs are once again two pieces of felt cloud together his ears are characteristically large and overall his head looks pretty nice Kayla's body actually looks to be more rounded than Sonics which is a good thing the white fur on his chest is nicely applied as are his chest tops his arms and legs are actually really short but his glove socks and buckles look pretty nice childish shoes are made of the same synthetic material that Sonics were made of though they still have that same weird curve to them that 2007 tails his shoes did maybe it's something that has to do with the pattern his tails are basically a sized up version of the ones used on the 2007 plush so they look great here are the two tails together the 2012 tails is a great plush but I have to say the 2007 tails is my personal favorite of the two I feel what captures the character much better really if this tail is just had a nicer looking face I probably would like the 2012 tails a lot more 2012 tails is without a doubt the most common of the 2012 set I got mine for only $25 back in summer of 2016 he was still in stock long after all the other characters had disappeared though there's a reason for that unfortunately there is a bootleg of this tails plush out there perhaps the bootleg existing with the reason behind why tail stayed in stock for so long on sites like Amazon the bootleg itself from first glance looks really close to the real plush however as you inspect it next to the real plush you can tell that there are some things off there's a great post detailing the differences between the real and the fake 2012 tails I'll link it in the description below the fake tail still shows up on sites like eBay from time to time so if you're looking for this plush be sure to inspect it before you buy it to make sure you're getting a genuine one but that's thankfully and for bootlegs I have no idea why bootleggers only managed to fake tails but yeah I'm pretty thankful that he was the only one this set is so great so seeing it's like a çb tarnished by having the whole set be faked would have been horrible that brutally existing definitely causes talent to be worth less than the others I'd say you can still probably find tales for the 20 to 25 dollar price point he was going for when I got mine and I'd say he's definitely worth that price rounding out the 2012 main trio its knuckles just compared this 2012 knuckles to the original sin' a knuckles knuckles here really goes to show how different the two sets are and how much today had improved with making sonic characters knuckles has had maybe the part of this plush that I like the most knuckles his muzzle looks so much better than the one on the 2007 knuckles knuckles his nose is rounded and looks fine knuckles his eyes look great and yes they did include a brow Ridge this time that looks much better than the 2007 knuckles knuckles as dreadlocks look fantastic they really made sure to make each set of dreads look just as they should and they're all the correct length they should be knuckles those two front dreads are stitched to the sides of its face which keeps them going straight down as they should the rest of his dreads are more loose but do keep their shape pretty well I really like how knuckles his face looks I think it's just a great take on the likeness and again it looks significantly better than the 2007 knuckles his body is once again pretty square though as crescent moon shape is very nicely done and is fully embroidered his tail is really long its rounded at places where it should be more hook-like but I guess that comes with the territory of it being a plush knuckles his arms and legs are as long as they need to be and his hands and shoes look good well actually one major complaint that a lot of people have about this plush is that his hands are oversized while this may be the case I think they look fine most knuckles plushies have his hands in fists while this plush has knuckles in a more neutral open hand coat and I think that may be why his hands appear larger than usual Plus knuckles having large hands is part of his character I don't really see how that's a problem with this plush though with that said putting knuckles his hands next to Sonics yeah they're pretty big his knuckles are proportioned pretty well and as a whole I think his hands look pretty all right knuckles issues improved a lot upon the 2007 knuckles going along with the rest of the set they now use synthetic with circular embroidery used for the rivets on his metal plates this does give his shoes less depth than the ones of the 2007 knuckles but they're much cleaner looking I think I also really like the colors used on knuckles again it's very vibrant and it looks really nice knuckles is definitely one of my favorites in this set I just think he's a pretty cool looking plush definitely not the greatest nutless plush but he certainly holds his own and stands out so how do you get knuckles nowadays well I think knuckles is one of the most popular plushies in this set so the demand for him is pretty high however back when this cell was new I often saw knuckle listed so there are probably a lot of him out there just like what the rest of the set I suddenly don't have much to offer in terms of help when it comes to finding these guys but from what I've seen he can go for around thirty five to forty five dollars so they probably didn't want the 2012 said to be simply a remake of the 2007 set so they added a new character to the set Shadow the Hedgehog honestly I'm surprised shadow wasn't in the 2007 set to begin with but he thankfully was introduced in this 2012 set and just like the rest of the set he looks very nice his design seems to be very similar to the Sonic plush as though that makes sense with that said though they did include all shadow signature features his face looks really accurate his eyes are basically the same as Sonic's as though they did include shadows red brow highlights though the highlights started the center of his eyes unlike the corners as they should though I only just noticed that while making this video so it's not that noticeable once again shadow as brow ridges if they didn't include them on him that would have been quite a problem but thankfully they are here his muzzle is decently shaped though you can really tell that the bottom of it isn't as rounded as it should be Shadow has a nice frown that suits him well and he does have as unique skin tone compared to the other characters shadows ears look very good at just as good as Sonic's shadow spikes are correctly positioned so the ones on the sides go upwards as they should and of course they did include his red stripes for his spikes interestingly the stripes are made of the synthetic material and not the material the rest of shadows for uses also all the stripes have embroidery on the edges except for the top one I wonder why they skip that one moving onto his body this is where the plush starts to get more interesting see for whatever reason shadows body looks really round and his arms and especially his legs are pretty short if this plush had black eyes it would work perfectly as a hypothetical classic shadow plush the plush still looks perfectly fine with this design choice but it does make it somewhat seem off model shadows chest fur is represented by not only embroidery on the edges to give it detail but they used very soft and fluffy material for the actual fur that's something not a lot of shadow plushies do and it's an absolutely fully welcomed feature on this plush shadows back Spike's look pretty much identical to Sonic and Sonic's do look nice of these do too for whatever reason his tail is longer than Sonic's I am at they should be the same length though I do think shadows tail looks better than Sonic's shadows arms and legs do of his red stripes fully detailed by embroidery here his glove and boot cuffs look all right but not perfect there is some nice embroidery on them but Seabees yellow bands they're supposed to be rings and they don't really look like rings did they look fine but I think they could have been done better shadows shoes look really really good at the top of them aren't that interesting but the bottom of them is great they included all those air holes as well as everything else they needed to include the air holes are represented by embroidery and the other details have embroidered lining it's all pretty well done I see a lot of companies skip the details here but thankfully Senay didn't and that is kind of surprising actually considering all the other Sonic plushies they've made all lack details on the bottom of their shoes I'm really glad today made shadow in this set if this set was just updated Sonic Tails knuckles and Amy plushies well I guess that would have been fine but it was a really good call and a part to make shadow and I think they did a great job with him shadows pretty tough to find nowadays I rarely see any go for sale but that makes sense since he's such a nice plush most people who already own him probably won't want to sell them all so finding one is kind of hard shadow isn't the rarest in the set but I could totally see him being the most desired he's the only sin a shadow plush and he's one of the nicest shadow plushies in recent memory I got my shadow for $23 back at the end of 2013 and he was well worth it from what I've seen if he goes for around $40 nowadays but again I'd say that's pretty worth it [Music] we're finally at the last plush we'll be looking at today 2012 Amy Rose this Amy is my favorite plush in the set I barely have any complaints about her Amy's face looks very nice her eyes are the same exact size and color as Sonic so they have consistency and her eyes are very large and expressive her eyeliner in eyelashes seem to be pretty much the same as they were on the 2007 plush only now they're better proportioned and look even better Amy's nose just like tails is represented by a black piece of plastic interesting how they decided to use that material here but not on the original Amy's nose I think it makes for a more accurate looking nose though as Amy's nose does look like this her mouth is centered which is now the norm for Amy plushies I think I do like Amy having her mouth to the side better but it works very well with this plushies symmetrical design Amy's ears are small and proportioned well as our her bangs which aren't as stiff as houses but look just as good her headband is similar to how it was done on the 2007 plush it's a separate piece stitched to her head though this time it's better size and is a nice bright shade of red Amy spikes are large and curved very nicely as they should her back spike isn't nearly as odd-looking as it was on the 2007 plush so her head looks very nice but how does her body look well I'd say it looks just as good as the head her dress is pretty much the same as it was on the 2007 plush it's once again made from purely synthetic material and her dress is firmly attached to her is the top of her dress is lined with a separate piece of synthetic material wrapped around it her arms and hands look just as nice as what we've seen on the other plushies and her ring bracelet here what's much more convincing than it did on the 2007 plush it's still not perfect but it looks much better her legs look good that they are partially covered up by her dress and she of course has her tail you'll notice here that the back stitching of her dress isn't actually that cleanly done especially the stitching underneath the dress but since it's on the back and underneath her dress you wouldn't notice it normally her boots look really good the white stripe going down them is very cleanly patterned and while the heels of her boots aren't that defined there is stitching detail so you can tell that they are there I do have to say I like the 2012 Amy better than the 2007 1 2007 Amy does have some cool things going for her but I feel a more recent Amy just does a better job at capturing the look of modern Amy and I think overall it is the better plush it's a spot-on cake on Amy's current design and you can't get much better than this as for Amy's rarity this was the plush that was the hardest for me to find I got Sonic back in 2013 but I didn't get Amy until March of 2007 she's definitely the hardest to find in the set I paid a solid $60 for the say me and while that may seem like a lot is that Amy I got was not only meant but it was also the first Amy I personally saw for sale since 2013 to be fair I wasn't actively searching for Amy until much later but still actually way back in 2013 I did see an Amy being sold for $30 new and I was like yeah I'll get her someday or whatever who cares and then I didn't and this set went out of stock everywhere protip if you want to plush get it before it disappears forever otherwise you'll really regret it I honestly don't have any tips for finding Amy really it just comes down to you getting lucky and finding them for sale on sites like eBay most if not all sites at this point seem to be completely out of these plushies so the second-hand market is really currently the only place you can find them I'd say Amy's worth around sixty to ninety dollars she could totally go for more if someone really wanted her but considering I could find a mint one in 2017 for $60 there's a decent chance someone else will be able to find her for that price if you want this plush just keep on searching and you will eventually find her with every piece of merchandise they must always start off as prototypes of the final product usually these early renditions of the products contain various differences compared to the released items with the Sanae Sonic set we actually do have a good amount of pictures of prototypes of the plushies for the 2007 set we have this picture this image was posted to the Sanae site back in 2007 when the set first came out all of the small-sized plushies look very different compared to the final releases Sonic's face looks pretty different tails looks pretty much the same but you can tell that there's something about him that looks slightly off Amy's face I think it looks better than the final plush one of her spikes are made of the same thin material as her bangs I'm so glad they changed that for the final plush but uh this knuckles right here what was today doing when they were designing this knuckles that looks so bad look at his eyes how did that even happen the other eyes look fine what was going on with knuckles also his hands he has fingers this is such a mess of a plush but it's so funny-looking well at least medium sonic looks pretty normal and despite how off models some of these may look they are still extremely cool to see I just hope they're still out there somewhere as most of the time prototypes get destroyed but I'd like to think that somewhere out there this knuckles still exists the 2012 set also has its fair share of prototypes that we've seen coming in the form of stock images back when the set was first being listed on sites these images were used here's the one for sonic sonic looks pretty much the same with the only difference being how its face is constructed the others however look pretty different here's the prototype tails his face I think looks way better than the one on the release plush as it actually looks pretty expressive however if you look at his body it's really wide and I feel the release tails is better than this plush in that regard at least here's the knuckles he looks pretty much the same as the released one only that his proportions are a bit different and his face is more wide Amy looks very different her face looks less refined and her mouth looks pretty bad from this angle at least and her limbs seem thicker than the final plush while most sites seem to use the prototype images of Sonic Tails knuckles and Amy they seem to usually use an image of the final plush for shadow however we do have an image of a prototype shadow and here he is okay I get that this was today's first try at making a shadow plush but wow that looks hilariously bad thankfully they improved his design at least in terms of his face before his final release it's pretty unusual for Sanada post images of such seemingly early renditions of their plushies but here we are at this point I can't even begin to imagine where these prototypes could be now they're either destroyed locked away in either scenario Sega's archives or something like that who knows well actually on the Chinese shopping site Taobao I found this lot of Sonic plushies it's a pretty cool lot all things considered but what we're interested in are these two the shadow and Knuckles flushes at first I didn't recognize them but compare this knuckles to the image of a prototype there's no way to tell for sure but I think they're the same plush could these be prototypes that made their way into public hands the seller unfortunately only posted two images of the lot so we don't get a great look at them but it's more than enough looking at this shadow shoes and comparing them to how the ones on the released shadow are constructed they look pretty similar except the supposed prototype shadow lacks air holes on the bottom of his shoes also look at his chest fur if this truly is a prototype of a sanae shadow why did they change that of course these could be extremely obscure bootlegs or something but given your knuckles looks one-to-one with the factory image I want to believe that these really are Sanae prototypes that managed to survive and got into the hands of the person selling them the real question is how did the seller even get these it's truly a mystery and these images are probably all we'll ever get to see on these prototypes perhaps more soon a sonic prototypes will show up someday but I find that unlikely do I think Sanae is done with Sonic honestly it could go either way the 2012 set is still on sanae's website showing that they do still have the license even if they aren't doing anything with it right now with that said though we did see a release of the 2012 Sonic back at the end of 2016 and on social media Sega still post these great promotional images using the 2012 cent so they're still relevant to some extent well as far as we know both sets are no longer being made I wouldn't be surprised if Sanae came back to Sonic someday but we do have to realize today has already made two separate sonic cents and well with both of those sets they made phenomenal plushies both sets abruptly ended without a second wave or anything I don't know if Sanae just didn't want to make more characters or if the sets just didn't sell well enough to justify a second wave there is no denying that in America this set is very popular but in Japan where these sets were primarily being sold things might have been somewhat different Sonic has plenty of Japanese fan but he's way more popular elsewhere than he is in Japan so maybe the sets really didn't sell as well as today I'd hoped but that begs the question why weren't the plushies directly available in America well yes the plushies were available from sellers who had imported the plushies they could only be found as imports that your average store probably wouldn't carry but still we see Sanae plushies get localized all the time enter little buddy a company who localizes sanae plushies and sells them in america if you see us in a plush in a US store nowadays chances are it's actually a sanae plush distributed under little buddy it would have been in the best interest of sanae and everyone involved to get this set available in American stores why didn't little buddy localize this set well I don't know for sure however to get someone more to the bottom of this I reached out to a representative of little buddy and here's what they had to say we've tried to obtain the license for Sonic a few years back but unfortunately that fell through so little buddy did actually express interest in Sonic and I imagine at one point they were looking into localizing this set but for whatever reason it just never happened side note little buddy did actually show up concept art for these as they never actually came out but it does prove that little buddy was for sure looking into Sonic but we're getting off topic do I think another sanae sonic set could happen absolutely there is tons of potential for a third set sanae already has the precedents for doing stuff like this for example they've made many mario sets such as the mario party 5 set which was followed up by the super mario set and then and they made the all-star collection we could totally see a sanae all-star Sonic's tent and it could be amazing imagine the 2012 set but improved upon an even more refined the 2012 set are some of my favorite Sonic plushies so making them again but even better would be incredible and of course they could always make more characters as there is tons of room person a silver Rouge Metal Sonic supersonic chow could you imagine us in HL yeah it could be amazing maybe someday it'll happen but as of right now nothing's been confirmed I'd love to see it happen someday though I really like these plushies and it's too bad they aren't easily available anymore sure you can still find them if you look hard enough but these are amazing plushies and they should be able to be found and enjoyed by anyone who wants them it's too bad soon they stopped producing them and I'd love to see them make a third Sonic set or even for them to just continue the 2012 scent there is so much room for expanding the series and it's honestly a real shame neither of these sets made a past wave one I'm sure tons of people would love to see some a Sonic return and while I think it's likely there's no telling when or if that would even happen so for now we only have the two set though if today was to never return to Sonic I feel these two sets are enough despite the fact that we only got five characters in total these plushies for the most part are exceptionally well designed and I suggest anyone who wants any of them to look for them I had no idea I would be finishing these sets so soon sure it did take me four years to finish the 2012 set but I wasn't really looking for them for that long and the first 2007 plush I got was Amy who I got in November of 2016 and I finished the set only a few months later in March of 2017 these guys are still out there and if you have enough dedication and maybe a little bit of luck you will be able to find them these sets especially in the 2012 set are really up there in terms of my favorite recent sonic plushies it is simply a shame that soon a sonic ended so soon well twice I really hopes to may give sonic another shot because if they don't then there's so much wasted potential but at least we have these two sets and they truly are phenomenal Sonic plushies they're really some of the best Sonic plushies to ever be retail releases and I highly recommend all of them [Music] [Applause] [Music]
