[Music] so [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] so [Music] so [Music] [Music] [Music] right there we go so um uh hey okay good morning and welcome to our celebration of the eucharist a president for this morning is father michael [Applause] glory and praise to our god [Music] many other blessings he blessed to those who trust in his ways we the daughters and sons of him [Music] in every heart that saves glory and praise to our god who along gives light to our days many of the blessings he bears to those who trust in his ways [Music] in his wisdom he strengthens us like gold that's tested in fire know the power of sin prevails our god is there to save glory and praise to our god gives light to our days many other blessings he bears to those who trust in his ways um in the name of the father and the son and of the holy spirit amen the grace of our lord jesus christ the love of god and the communion of the holy spirit be with you all and with your spirit we may keep in our prayers the people of ukraine and the worsening condition there and pray for a peaceful resolution in today's gospel jesus reminds us that every tree is known by its own fruit for the times we have not borne fruit or born fruit that is rotten we ask god for pardon and peace lord jesus you cultivate life and love lord have mercy lord have mercy christ jesus you show us by example how to grow in relationship christ have mercy christ have mercy lord jesus you destroy sin and death lord have mercy lord have mercy may almighty god have mercy on us forgive us our sins and bring us to everlasting life amen glory to god in the highest and on earth peace to people of good will we praise you we bless you we adore you we glorify you we give you thanks for your great glory lord god heavenly king god almighty father lord jesus christ only begotten son lord god lamb of god son of the father you take away the sins of the world have mercy on us and you take away the sins of the world receive our prayer you are seated at the right hand of the father have mercy on us [Music] jesus christ with the holy spirit in the glory of god the father [Music] let us pray grant us o lord we pray that the course of our world may be directed by your peaceful rule and that your church may rejoice untroubled in her devotion through our lord jesus christ your son who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the holy spirit god forever and ever amen so a reading from the book of ecclesiastes in a shaken sieve the rubbish is left behind so too the defects of a man appear in his talk the kiln tests the work of the potter the test of a man is in his conversation the orchard where the tree grows is judged on the quality of its fruit similarly a man's word betrays what he feels do not praise a man before he has spoken since this is the test of men word of the lord thanks be to god lord it is good to give thanks to you it is good to give thanks to the lord to make music to your name almost high to proclaim your love in the morning and your truth in the watches of the night lord give thanks to you the just will flourish like the palm tree and grow like the lebanon cedar lord it's good to give thanks to you planted in the house of the lord they will flourish in the court of our god still bearing fruit when they are old still full of sap still green to proclaim that the lord is just in him my rock there is no wrong god is good to give thanks to you a reading from the first letter of saint paul to the corinthians when this perishable nature has put on imperishability and when this mortal nature has put on immortality then the words of scripture will come true death is swallowed up in victory death where is your victory death where is your sting now the sting of death is sin and sin gets its power from the law so let us thank god for giving us victory through our lord jesus christ never give give in then my dear brothers never admit defeat keep on working at the lord's work always knowing that in the lord you cannot be laboring in vain the word of the lord thanks be to god hallelujah [Music] shine on the world like bright stars you are offering to the word of life [Music] the lord be with you a reading from the holy gospel according to luke [Music] jesus told a parable to his disciples can one blind man guide another surely both will fall into a pit the disciple is not superior to his teacher the fully trained disciple will always be like his teacher why do you observe the splinter in your brother's eye and never notice the plank in your own how can you say to your brother brother let me take out the splinter that is in your eye when you cannot see the plank in your own hypocrite take the plank out of your own eye first and then you will see clearly enough to take out the splinter that is in your brother's eye there is no sound tree that produces rotten fruit nor again a rotten tree that produces sound fruit for every tree can be told by its own fruit people do not pick figs from thorns nor gather grapes from brambles a good man draws what is good from the store of goodness in his heart a bad man draws what is bad from the store of badness for a man's words flow out of what fills his heart the gospel of the lord praise to you lord jesus [Music] over the last three weeks we've been hearing from luke's sermon on the plane and of course it has parallels with matthew's sermon on the mount but this section begins with the words of jesus came down with his with the twelve and stopped at a piece of level ground where a large crowd had gathered jesus came down to their level and spoke to them in language that they understood it reminds us also of the incarnation that god became one like us in all things but sin god came down to meet us on our own level so that we may learn and understand a woman had a son and he liked sugar and of course he would eat copious amounts and was cut becoming quite fat with it so she decided to take her son to a holy man and she said to the holy man can you help my son to stop eating sugar the holy man took a moment and said yes bring him to me for an hour each week so the woman each week brought her son to the holy man and the weeks went by and the weeks became months and yet her son was still eating the same amount of sugar and she thought what is this holy man doing his you know my son hasn't stopped so she went to the holy man and said i've been bringing my son to you all these weeks all these months and he still hasn't stopped eating eating the sugar the holy man looked at her and said i didn't realize how hard it is to give up sugar he wasn't willing to help the son give up sugar until he had given it up himself in this gospel today we hear we are called to take the splint plank out of our own eye the holy man with the sugar taking it out first before helping taking the splinter out of the boy's eye often the splinter in our brother's eye is also this plank in our own the thing that often annoys us about another person is really the thing that we find most difficult to change in ourselves in that sense we're projecting our frustration at not being able to overcome it onto someone else but of course to truly help someone we need to understand the situation if we first understand that the plank in our or the splinter in our brother's eye is the same that is a plank in our own our first attitude should be one of patience often the things that annoy us or try again yeah we'd be wrong to think that we don't frustrate other people that there are things about us that don't annoy other people i'm sure there's plenty of things that annoy other people about me and so of course what we need first to have that gift of patience in recognizing our own weakness and being patient with the other who shares it and only then in that struggle we can begin to help the other this gospel reminds us that we first need to look at ourselves this is in contrast to last week's where it was looking at our relationship with others this week it's firmly looking at ourselves and it's only when we recognize our faults and failings acknowledge our own shortcomings that we can be patient with others and that we can offer them support in overcoming their weakness we are called to look at ourselves and only in looking at ourselves are we then able to help others so so let us rise and profess our faith i believe in one god the father almighty maker of heaven and earth of all things visible and invisible i believe in one lord jesus christ the only begotten son of god born of the father before all ages god from god life and life true god from true god begotten not man consubstantial in the father through him all things were made for us men and for our salvation he came down from heaven and by the holy spirit was encountered the virgin mary and became man for our sake he was crucified he suffered death and was buried and rose again on the third day in accordance with the scriptures he ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the father he will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead and his kingdom will have no end i believe in your holy spirit the lord the giver of life who proceeds from the father and the son who with the father and the son is adored and glorified who has spoken through the prophets i believe in one holy catholic and apostolic church i confess one baptism for the forgiveness of sins and i look forward to the resurrection of the dead [Music] sin paul reminds us that labor for the lord is not in vain in this spirit we present our petitions before god our father for pope francis the lead and the leaders of our church that through their teaching and example we may be strengthened in our faith lord hear us lord hear our prayer for all women and men called to work in god's vineyard that they feel supported in their endeavors and able to see the fruits of their labours lord hear us lord hear our prayer for the people of ukraine that world leaders will be united in calling for an end to military aggression in favor of negotiations based on mutual respect and the search for peace lord hear us lord hear our prayer for those seeking meaningful work that they find suitable employment that allows them to live with dignity lord hear us for the deceased that they are welcomed into the eternal kingdom especially frank ferrante alfero lena panetta gaspari corance and christopher bayer all who died recently and those whose anniversaries occur at this time lord hear us lord hear our prayer gracious god through the prayers and actions of our daily lives may we be your faithful vineyard may your peace come to us and ought to all people we ask this through christ our lord amen so uh [Music] so [Music] so [Music] do [Music] so [Music] so [Music] [Music] [Music] so pray my sisters and brothers that my sacrifice and yours may be acceptable to god the almighty and loving father maybe you've got your sacrifice at your hands for the praise and glory in his name for our good and the good of all his holy church o god who provide gifts to be offered to your name and count our oblation as signs of our desire to serve you with devotion we ask of your mercy that what you grant as the source of merit may also help us to attain merits reward through christ our lord amen not to preempt the season of lent but keeping our thoughts and prayers for the people of ukraine today i'll use the second eucharistic prayer for masses of reconciliation the lord be with you and with your spirit lift up your hearts [Music] us give thanks to the lord our god it is right and just it is truly right and just that we should give you thanks and praise o god almighty father for all you do in this world through our lord jesus christ for though the human race is divided by dissension and discord yet we know that by testing us you change our hearts to prepare them for reconciliation even more by your spirit you move human hearts that enemies may speak to each other again adversaries may join hands and people seek to meet together by the working of your power it comes about oh lord that hatred is overcome by love revenge gives way to forgiveness and discord is changed to mutual respect therefore as we give you ceaseless thanks with the choirs of heaven we cry out to your majesty on earth and without end we acclaim holy holy [Music] blessed is he who comes in the name of the lord [Music] you therefore almighty father we bless through jesus christ your son who comes in your name he himself is the word that brings salvation the hand you extend to sinners the way by which your peace is offered to us when we ourselves have turned away from you on account of our sins you brought us back to be reconciled oh lord so that converted at last to you we might love one another through your son whom for our sake you handed over to death and now celebrating the reconciliation christ has brought us we entreat you sanctify these gifts by out the outpouring of your spirit that they may become the body and blood of your son whose command we feel when we celebrate these mysteries for when about to give his life to set us free as he reclined at supper he himself took bread into his hands and giving you thanks he said the blessing brought the bread and gave it to his disciples saying take this all of you and eat of it for this is my body which will be given up for you so in us in a similar way on that same evening he took the chance of blessing in his hands confessing your mercy and gave the chalice to his disciples saying take this all of you and drink from it for this is the chalice of my blood the blood of the new and eternal covenant which will be poured out to you and for many for the forgiveness of sins do this in memory of me uh the mystery of faith we proclaim your death oh lord profess your resurrection until you come again celebrating therefore the memorial of the death and resurrection of your son who left us this pledge of his love we offer you what you have bestowed on us the sacrifice of perfect reconciliation father most holy we humbly beseech you to accept us also together with your son and in this saving banquet graciously to endow us with his very spirit who takes away everything that ex estranges us from one another may he make your church a sign of unity and an instrument of your peace among all people and may he keep us in communion with francis our pope and anthony our bishop and all the bishops and your entire people just as you have gathered us now the table of your son so also bring us together with a glorious virgin mary mother of god with blessed joseph her spouse with your blessed apostles and all the saints with our brothers and sisters and those of every race and tongue who have died in your friendship bring us to share with them the unending banquet of unity in a heaven in a new heaven and a new earth where the fullness of your peace will shine forth in christ jesus our lord through him and with him and in him oh god almighty father in the unity of the holy spirit all glory and honor is yours forever [Music] oh [Music] for the coming of god's kingdom with its power of healing and peace let us pray as jesus taught the first disciples our father who art in heaven hallowed be thy name thy kingdom come thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven give us this day our daily bread and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us and lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil deliver us lord we pray from every evil graciously grant peace in our days that by the help of your mercy we may be always free from sin and safe from all distress as we await the blessed hope and the coming of our savior jesus christ for the kingdom the power and the glory are yours now and forever lord jesus christ who said your apostles peace i leave you my peace i give you look not on our sins but on the faith of your church and graciously grant her peace and unity in accordance with your will who live and reign for ever and ever amen the peace of the lord be with you always and with your
