9 Tips To Dealing With Encumberment In Starfield

hello guys and welcome to another Starfield guide today we're going to be talking about getting encumbered which is when your mass exceeds the amount of weight you can carry and it happens to us all in fact this was something I was really struggling with in the early game so we're going to talk about eight tips which you can use to your advantage so that you never have to suffer from getting incumbered again or at least don't have to suffer as much so the first thing that I need to do is get some loot so I'm going to head in here and kill some Pirates oh and whilst we're on the subject of loot one thing that I should mention if you're looking for better loot play on higher difficulties if you can so we're currently on high difficulty you can do very hard difficulty you can do very hard as well but it just means that yes it's more challenging but the rewards are that little bit more sweeter okay and that is done now if we just drop down for a second ow you'll notice that I am over encumbered and when this happens if you move your oxygen meter is going to drop as you can see in the bottom left now and obviously if we run it's going to go down even faster the problem with this is once you start taking on too much CO2 you're going to start taking damage so you're either going to have to stop really often so that your oxygen meter fills up again and then you can continue walking or you're going to have to keep stemming so that you have a continuous supply of Health that sucks especially when you have a ton of stuff which we've got over a hundred kilograms more than we should actually have on us however there are ways in which we can mitigate the effects of this so the first thing that we can do obviously is if we have a companion apparent I'll meet him back at the ship so Barrett's still cleaning up the uh the little Outpost there so I thought I'd move on to the other points for now and then we'll talk about companions but the the next thing that we can do is to go to our Aid if it's not that much in cumberment if it's only a few kilograms then we have the opportunity to use whiskey for example this increases our weight capacity at carrying capacity by eight for five minutes or alternative things like the I believe this food yeah so this UC battle meal will also increase your capacity for eight minutes they don't stack however so do be aware of that I think there's also a drug but I don't have any of them on me so I can't speak about that off the top of my head if that doesn't work for you there's also providing we have some if we go here we may be lucky enough to have that we don't certain outfits allow you such as the trucker outfit I believe it gives you plus five to your carry weight potential that is really useful if you're expecting to be carrying a lot of stuff then do dress for the occasion definitely recommend that and thing to bear in mind are skills so this isn't something that I've done and I have a good reason for this because we'll get to it at the end I've found a way to pretty much negate incumbent entirely for me but there are ways in which we can increase our weight lifting capacity so we have the weight lifting obviously which will give you up to a total carrying capacity increased by 100 gra kilograms which is not bad at all also because incumbent is linked with your oxygen your your oxygen meter you see the the larger the oxygen meter that we have the longer it's going to take for the incumbent to actually damage us so what we can do is also invest points in uh Wellness is it Wellness no Fitness which is over here and here we have more oxygen available so that we can last longer encumbered without taking damage another thing to point out is actually with me injured at the moment I don't think this affects yeah this just increases our damage but things like a cough are going to rapidly or lung problems I can't remember what they call it are going to decrease the amount of oxygen that you can have and so that is dire for you when you are encumbered and you'll want to use some kind of Aid to heal that so that you're not going to suffer any more than you need to now my companion here is back we're going to pass him some of our gear this is going to rebalance the the weight that we have distributed between myself and them as you can see they have 60 kilograms available to um Carry for us so we can pass on all of these but do note that you will have to take the stuff back off them if you want to use them or sell them they're not going to be shared in the inventory space that your ship has for example speaking of inventory spaces and the ship that we're on we can actually go to our ship inventory by jumping over to our inventory and then pressing q and it will immediately go to our freighter and here we can actually shift stuff over to it should we wish just by clicking on it whilst we're in the ship this is also the same for if you're at your own Outpost you have various inventory from crates to also building storage units that you can put your stuff in should you wish but that's not the only thing that you can do there are further ways in which we can increase our weight capacity and also negate being encumbered as you can see right now I am encumbered but the speed in which we are taking incumbent is incredibly slow and so we can walk like this for a good few minutes without even having to stop so that's my favorite tip which I'm about to share with you but I do ask if you are enjoying this video if you're finding it helpful please do hit the thumbs up it more video guides we can get out for you so this next one comes down to loot and I do always recommend checking the loot that you have because you may find for example here this particular piece of loot is worth 1539 I actually had a legendary piece of loot that was worth ten thousand these which aren't legendary are worth eight thousand six hundred and you can see they have a lot more armor than this particular piece but this is the best piece of armor I have found in the game and the reason for this is the huge buff for when it comes to being encumbered firstly if we look here the O2 filter means that we use a 25 less oxygen whenever we're moving this is really important because when we're encumbered we consume a lot more oxygen so having that immediate buff is a great trait to have and we then have a resource hauler this is specifically for resources they weigh 25 percent less as well so we're reducing the amount of weight from resources and then finally and most importantly the assisted carry perk that we have here means that we drain 75 less O2 when running while encumbered and how that what that translates to is that we are able to run without that really affecting us so if you're someone who has a habit of getting over encumbered by a couple of hundred kilograms I definitely recommend checking any loot that you can find with the assisted carry pack it is incredibly useful also in regards to loot we were very lucky with the mantis's helmet also boosting our Oxygen by 20 so remember we're using 25 less oxygen we're increasing our capacity by 20 and then there's the minus 75 usage of oxygen when we're over encumbered this really does add up so do be very much aware of what your character's equipment offers you and what packs and try and fit that around your play style and of course the next thing that we can talk about is actually modding your equipment of course I'll have to go back to the ship for that whilst I'm getting back to this though what I will also mention is another thing that you can do is find skill mags littered around the map I found a couple of these and they reduce your or they increase your weight capacity by five kilograms and though that doesn't sound like much it certainly can add up and I'm not sure if these are unique items because I found two or three that are specific to the the weight capacity so either there's a handful of the same ones or perhaps they are randomly generated and you can come across multiple greatly increasing your capacity for weight lifting now my last tip is modding your equipment and you can do this with the various perks available for example one that you should definitely have if you want to do this is the spacesuit design you can obviously increase this as much as you want I only have one skill point in this at the moment but if we go to the spacesuit workbench here we can actually find a list of items that we have on us this is oh where is it let's have a look for our equipment so here we go this this here is our assisted carry refined star Roma balanced pack and we can improve this we can grab this mod slot here and we can add an extra capacity of 10 kilograms should we wish if we have the resources alternatively we also have the option to add an oxygen Reserve which increases the oxygen I believe I don't know by 10 yeah 10 oxygen capacity so remember we've got 20 oxygen capacity this will I'll add a further 10 greatly improving our ability to carry weight under duress but there you are guys I hope you've enjoyed this video I hope you found it helpful if
