7 lil' indie games i think you should play (no pressure)

[Music] if you do not play any of these i will be at your door before nightfall statistically speaking you probably haven't played any of these but if you have please say so in the comments everyone will think you're really cool also these aren't reviews i'm gonna be doing they're recommendations i'm gonna be glossing over some stuff both good and bad for the sake of brevity none of these games are perfect but i i like them a lot okay let's play video game you play as a weird red thing with big old legs it's hard to describe it it plays like a physics-based puzzle platformer oh my god oh my god please please oh my fucking but the campaign is more often a sort of casual adventure game where you uncover a deep state conspiracy and start a fun little revolution that's on the press kit it plays pretty well controlling piku and or niku is very great and the puzzle platforming is very fine that's not why i'm recommending the game though i'm recommending the game because it's really funny [Music] this game is so fucking cute and charming this is looking pretty good man what's on the canvas and at one point it gave me an objective that was just get swaggy and i don't think video games are gonna get better than this this is the only game i've played where i kicked a bunch of eggs until baby birds came out then a gigantic bird mom descended from the sky to yell at me and tell me to fix my mistakes then later i visited some guy who told me this this never comes up again the co-op mode is pretty sparse and they could have pushed the actual gameplay mechanics a bit further rather than focusing on minigames and other side stuff but those are some of my favorite parts so sector scrub you get to live for now all in all the writing and the art direction and the wonderful music from bowen culminate in one of the most endearing games of recent memory go play it [Music] [Music] later alligator is an extremely charming game spearheaded by small buu the two-person animation studio and married couple behind batman and spider-man they also voiced these two made a bunch of cool stuff for big shows i made some videos interviewing a dog named daffodil those those are my favorite you play as a very trustworthy gator with a friendly and clearly visible face you've been asked by pat here to investigate in his extended family in hopes of discovering and preventing his assassination this mostly consists of exploring alligator new york city point-and-click style and convincing family members to clue you in by completing a minigame not exactly groundbreaking stuff here but most of the fun comes from watching these guys talk the goofy dialogue with this fun bouncy animation is an absolute joy perform a claw machine heist with geraldine play hide and seek with skids this one took me a couple tries he's very good a guy who calls himself the knife asks you to role play with him and the game is now a visual novel then there's bub the best character is bub if any of that got a sharp exhale out of you i'd highly recommend picking this one up if not i understand but you do make me a little sad snakey bus is just as stupid as it sounds and that's great you are a bus you pick up passengers by running them over and the more you successfully deliver the longer your bus becomes you lose by staying still for too long or by flying out of bounds or when the game just decides have you tried being hydrated what the fuck what the fuck what the fuck one of my favorite things about this game is that each run starts off nice and slow a relaxing brain off experience but as you elongate the game slowly transforms into a fucking survival game where your worst opponent is your own stupid decision from two minutes ago so so it's like snake but you're a bus oh and it's also got a multiplayer mode where you can shoot rockets of people if i add to lots of complaints or if there's ever a sneaky bus too i'd say that it needs more map variety with a higher focus on a function over form more multiplayer modes and a bit of an overhaul in the sound department to make driving feel more weighty and satisfying i am aware that these are probably all difficult things to ask from two people on a presumed shoestring budget but they're still updating the game so i can dream if nothing else this is the perfect game for turning your brain off and turning a discord stream on while you shoot the shit in a random vc i really like it i hope you really like it also if you're not 18 you should not watch this part adam and eve is funding my poor life choices this month this is not a joke you should skip here if you are underage in case you live in a hole these guys are super well known and trusted brand how well known last time i worked with them my dad better [Music] hmm in a short hike you play as a dumpy little gal who climbs a big hill so they can call their mom climb the mountain or you know just wander around or catch some fish or drive a boat or fly around or hit a ball with a stick you know you do you it's guzzy it's nice i really like how this game handles progression it's largely dependent on how many of these golden feathers you have and how well you're able to utilize them for every feather claire finds they're able to flap their wings one more time or climb a little bit higher you collect feathers by exploring the island or meeting people beating them with their own games checking up on the sand castle hierarchy or just being nice there are no obnoxious roadblocks instead crafty little boys can find clever ways around certain obstacles if they'd rather not search for more feathers or you can buy them off the dipshit who scalped the golden feather market right before you got here asshole it's great because the process of scaling the mountain is rewarding no matter which route you take collecting feathers is fun but finding creative ways to do more with less is fun also claire feels really nice to control the atmosphere is wonderful the art direction is nice and simple everyone talks like they're sending discord messages the music is adaptive because this is a good video game you should play the next game the invisible hours is a murder mystery where you effectively a person-sized fly on the wall have to repeatedly rewind and revisit the same moments in time from several places throughout the house in order to get a full picture of what's really going on it is very quick to tell you that um actually it isn't a game it's a work of immersive theater which may actually be the most pseudo-intellectual sentence i've yet to read i'm thankful to report however that the actual game is nowhere near that level of pretentious except for the one time where the two characters recite shakespeare but i'm gonna give it a pass because despite the lack of engaging mechanics the primitive visuals and the terrible first impression the performances in this thing are kind of fucking stellar but the truth is a woman like you wants to get into the veins of all the men in the house tell them what we want to hear and then when the killer does step into the light those infatuated men will protect you i think you find safety in there adoration and i can't really think of anything that sounds less fun than standing on the stage of a grade school play so think christ to the acting is good especially since watching these people perform is what you're gonna be spending a hundred percent of your time doing the fun stems mostly from following the thread of each character's story seeing how it weaves in and out of everyone else's narrative and of course trying to figure out who did the thing mr vanderbilt either you were lying then or you are lying now originally it was a vr game but later on got ported to regular 2d so there are a lot of things that feel a little wonky if you aren't going to be using a headset it's not a huge problem most of the time you'll just see an object that doesn't do anything and wonder why you're able to look at it so much i'm a little iffy on the ending for reasons i obviously can't share but those first few chapters are so good the acting pacing the writing it all comes together so well that i can't help but recommend it anyway with or without a headset [Music] super liminal is a wacky ass puzzle game about forced perspective where most games are happy to let you dick around a bit this game seems more keen on sticking with you but what is a mini soda okay fuck you you spend most of your time resizing and transforming objects to progress which sounds pretty boring on paper but like most of the other games on this list what makes it work for me is its seamless execution and its sense of humor oh oh this is a game that takes great pleasure in surprising the player every chance it gets and for that reason it's very difficult to talk about without spoiling the whole thing just when you think you got a handle on things you understand a left from right the game says no that's down i don't think i went more than five minutes without being caught completely off guard by some goofy bullshit except for the late game which kind of sucks i just got to get this out of the way real quick the music is phenomenal [Music] that's so pretty fuck [Music] the last couple of levels are hung up on a story that i don't think is all that interesting and it would have been nice to see pillow castle take more time to explore some of its ideas thoroughly it often feels like it's only scratching the surface of its own potential still if the game can have a big bitch like me grinning from start to well most of the time maybe it'll do that for you too [Music] hypnospace outlaw is a lot of things first and foremost it's an alternate reality web browser a ridiculously accurate parody of the internet circa 1999 i'm talking ancient forums i'm talking myspace i'm talking geocities which if you remember you're too old to watch my videos your goal as a volunteer enforcer is to enforce the policies of hypnospace by finding and reporting bad actors easier said than done there are underground communities secret societies dark web hacker forums none of which are easy to find and only some of which are even required to discover you operate a shitty virtual machine that can only handle one open web page at a time the antiquated web browser loads pages slower the more you use it without rebooting your pc but it's okay because it loads faster when you wiggle your mouse impatiently i wasted a lot of time downloading custom desktop themes and virtual pets and malware that make my pc run even worse it's stupid how well this game manages to capture not just the feeling of an old pc but also the quirks of people online in the 90s browsing through community hubs like teamtopia will lead you to the webpages of random people who probably shouldn't be allowed internet access you have mavis who doesn't know how templates work zane who is very cool and just turned 15 vernon rubber 50 who likes motorcycles but behind the game's goofy presentation though what you'll find is that it's actually a detective puzzle game tender shoot has effectively gamified the fun of stumbling into a weird rabbit hole on some forum then spending the next three hours seeing how far it goes trying to satisfy that morbid curiosity if you're stupid like me the puzzles can feel pretty obtuse at times long loading screens tend to get old pretty fast but in the face of everything hypnospace accomplishes the problems are easy to forgive i feel nice fun game play now for a free vbock that was the last one go outside if you end up playing any of these let me know when you thought in the comments when you're done that's always
