hey everybody today we're gonna go over the reasons why we chose Kubota over the rest of the options first off I want to give you a little bit of a background of why we needed a tractor we have 200 acres in northern Wisconsin and we have to maintain a quarter mile long driveway we have to gather and collect firewood and maple syrup and also I have to plant and maintain my food plots I have about seven different food plots and they equal about three acres so first I was never even thinking about purchasing a tractor until my wife mentioned getting a tractor and within a month we ballin we bought a old Ford a 10 and we used it for a year and it's a great little tractor we're gonna continue to keep it because I think it's going to I believe it's going to be worth more to us keeping it then that's selling it so we're gonna keep this little tractor but it just wasn't enough I felt to get the jobs done that we needed around here and also we're in the future going to build a corn Woodhouse and I thought that a loader was going to come in very handy for that task so that brings us to why we chose the Kubota and who we looked at first of all we looked at three different tractors the Mahindra the Kubota and the John Deere we didn't look at any others because there was no dealerships closeby so at first I looked at the manager because it was quite a bit of step up from from a Ford a ten and I wanted to look at an economy tractor and I wanted to look at top-of-the-line tractors to see what I was getting between the two for the price so Mahindra was a great little tractor we looked at the 2638 model I believe it was we were kind of looking for a hydrostatic transmission but they also had a very large tractor that was a geared tractor you I thought it was going to be too big for us getting through our trails and the woods to pick up firewood and get to my food plots so we were kind of looking at a smaller tractor with still the same horsepower so the 26:38 was the one that we had taken a look at and I think it would have done what it needed to for us at a cheaper price but the biggest thing the biggest reason I couldn't buy that tractor was because when I sat in an operating platform it was so tight and constricted that there was no way I was gonna be able to operate that tractor for hours on end doing work it was uncomfortable and it'll be different for you when you sit in that tractor but it wasn't gonna work for us and my wife also didn't like the fact that it was noisy of the three tractors the Mahindra was the noisiest tractor now it didn't have a DPF and in using this tractor over 97 hours I don't believe that's a factor at all in 97 hours this tractor the DPF filter has ran to get rid of that extra suit twice both times it ran for about 15 minutes and all it does was is Rev the tractor up higher and you can continue to work and you're actually getting the work done quicker so it's not a big deal but like I say in 97 hours its ran twice and I can continue working while it's running for 10 minutes it's a non-issue there's a few things that I liked about the Kubota over the John Deere and I'll show it in these videos number one looking at the back of it the three-point both of them are heavy-duty the John Deere was a lot tighter it looked like it would be hard to get in there adjust the stabilizing bars and stuff like that but I did like the width of it because I thought it would get down our trails faster or maneuver through our woods easier [Laughter] so right away you can see how much whiter it is back here the cylinders are are exposed and you can actually get back on the sides and adjuster your stabilizer bars they're not weighed deep inside behind the wheel it's a wider tracker which is more stable but in my case that could be good and bad with a with a tighter with a skinnier tractor I could get into tighter spots in my woods because I do a lot of firewood work with the tractor so I could get in between trees a little bit easier the Kubota also has extendable three-point you can actually extend the arms of the three-point [Laughter] so that helps out with hooking up implements the Kubota had the adjustable links and I like the bad fact because it would be easier to connect implements to it I like the fact that the Kubota has a skid steer type attachment on the loader I felt that it would be easier to find attachments used and new and they were quickly changed now if we walk around to the front of the tractor give a skid steer type attachment which was more money the John Deere type attachment comes with the tractor you they're quick attached but it is proprietary so you have to buy John Deere type front implements this you have a better chance of finding something at Craigslist or used but it does it extends from the pins a little bit further so it lessens the amount of weight that you can that the loader can lift but it is still more than the John Deere now if we move around here you can see that although there is no exposed lines for the loader you they're all here the loader itself and they only become exposed right here in that corner and then again they're hidden like the John Deere in the front you but as far as the sides they're all routed up inside the loader and then they run down and pull back out there and as far as the steering linkages you I'm sure you've heard on other YouTube videos these are covered up and the John gears are behind that the genders are also a little bit below so I think it supports a piece there I also like the fact that the Kubota could lift more on the three-point and the loader the Kubota was a heavier tractor but as far as ground clearance you can get down now my third function those hoses do stick underneath it would be better if they were routed in a different spot as far as everything else you can see that the drawbar is actually in line with the rest of the tractor does not drop below so does not a little spot the rest of the tracker is all the same same height throughout from the drawbar all the way across - my third function hoses so if you don't have a third function that would be the first thing to catch if I was if I was to grab a hold of a a stump or something could grab those hoses but if you don't have a third function then this would be a cleaner bottom you wouldn't have to worry about anything so hands down I think the operating platform on the Kubota is better than the John Deere everything is located close at hand and your arm really never even has to come off your armrest and the John Deere didn't even have in our rust so I think all the components on the operating platform are of a higher quality - now if we move over to the operating platform this is where I think where I noticed the sides of the back end was that the the Kubota in my opinion was was more quality in the in the operating platform here just looking at all the components themselves it's a roomier and it just seems like a nicer nicer panel and stuff and more ergonomic for when you sit down first of all you have armrests so that's nice and then the front panel was much more car-like as far as your your um signalling and your lights then you have cruise control and you can hit the button plus or minus as you go these are your side lights up front this is your DPF buttons your hazards and then your display mode now you can see this is a little nicer I think than the John Deere you instead of all those controls being here where I with individual buttons I think it's more acceptable susceptible to rain and snow you just have one display button and it advances you through all of your options and then I can just hold down the button and toggle through these so it's very simple now if we start it up not only do you have high medium and low range you also have high and low on each one of those and this is on the fly you can tap it down below or high in each of your ranges she actually had six and everything is is right at hand my arm is resting on the armrest and I can reach the throttle I can reach my three point and I can reach my loader joystick the third function button is here off and on and here's your third function I really did like the fact that the Kubota had a high low on-the-fly option I use that all the time so you actually have six gears because you can put high low in high medium and low gear and that is on the fly on the loader joystick it has a throttle up which just throttles up the loader itself and that has come in handy when I'm picking big rocks up out of the dirt or large logs so one other cool feature is on the motor as a model joystick but that doesn't put power to your loader but not the tractors itself rattle all the way down and pull back crush this button here see how much faster it is and that has nothing to do with the tractor itself so what I'll do is back up here I will push the throttle all the way there the pedal all the way down and then work the throttle power and you can see how slow the tractor flowing but how fast the motor [Music] and another feature on the Kubota is you can work two functions on the loader at the same time so when I lift it I can also dump and it's not difficult to find the sweet spot at all it's very easy so I'll lift it and dump at the same time I wasn't dumping material out of the bucket and stuff but also grabbing logs and it's not in the way of any I can actually enter and exit the tractor from this side the joystick isn't in my way there's no bar that comes down now as far as the treadle pedal I I think you're gonna get used to whatever tractor you buy but I do like this because I do this forward and then I put my foot back to go backwards and it's very natural you you know to go backwards you have your foot and push backward and there's plenty of legroom the Mahindra had horrible legroom Ike I couldn't even that wasn't even an option to buy that tractor simply because of the legroom on the track I don't know why they they oversaw that till is right here you just push this button on your foot you have both brakes and they can be separated by that yellow bar just kick it up there's your parking brake everything's in front of you there's there's not too many handles behind you you have the differential and you also have your four-wheel drive right here but I do like the treadle pedal I've gotten used to it and it's actually very comfortable I don't even mind it at all to fill the gas is down there low you don't have to lift up and fill it above your shoulders or anything it's easy to get at which is really handy so that's really easy to get into just pull this pin brush guard comes forward hold pin down there and you can get to your battery really easily to your radiator and then you can take off two shields to get to your fulfill your oil you do have to take off this shield because the oil spills right below here that's one thing that that I don't like there's a couple hoses in the way of it too so it's kind of hard to get to the dipstick is right here though that's not bad at all here's your oil filter your fuel filter you're gonna access your air filter to joystick is out of your way the motor joystick there's no bar there so I can actually get up on this side of the tractor not a step it's not very hard to get in here the seat slides back and forth there's plenty of labeling this seat actually slides to the side so if you want to look off to the side while you're running the tractor and then it also reclined too far I mean more than so many needs it has armrests which the John Deere did not and everything is right here so when I'm the tilt skiers right here also up by your feet so what I'm actually driving the tractor my throttle is right here close at hand the three-point is close at hand the PTO is right here but I it's very natural for me I can have my arm on the armrest and utilize both of those and then the joysticks right here I don't have to be out here you know my arm can rest on the actual armrest as I'm doing everything and that's super comfortable please adjust your seat for how much spring there is and then the loader can come off all the loaders on Coppola's tractors come on here's your ear stands and then here's the pins to take out one bad thing was that this piece when my third function hoses come was very chintzy it was very thin metal and I was going over from my field to my driveway and had to go in the ditch and when I did that it was very muddy is when I first got my tractor and a rock came up and hit that and actually bent it so I actually had my stepdad weld a piece and now that's that's beefy I can actually step on it so I've I've solved that one problem but I don't have many bad things to say about this grand l Kubota we got the 42 horsepower to the 40 60 and for us in in these woods it's I've never needed any more power with the loader also and we do have a grapple and we can pick up extremely big logs there's a couple 20 22 diameter oak and there's a pine back there also and it handles all that the 805 loader we got the AG tires they're a little bit cheaper than the industrial type but again we're I'm in muddy trails a lot and and I do do a lot of snow we clear our driveway of snow with this tractor also so that's why I went with those type of tires who knows if I would have got stuck with industrial tires I've been in a couple different situations where I just barely got out and I don't know if maybe I would have got stuck with the industrial tires I don't know but the one thing I will say is if you have any type of yard that you want to keep without ruts these are not the tires to have especially when you put four-wheel drive on our little bit of lawn we do have here it just tears up the ground pretty bad but our ford tractor here has AG tires too so I'm kind of screwed either way there but I think it's it's better off for the for getting the logs out and getting to my food plots to plant them because a lot of times the trails are money er than the food the food plots are ready but the trails are muddy so I got to get to the to the food plots through the crappy trails so they have come in handy as far as the differences between the metal hood and the plastic hood that wasn't going to sway me either way I kind of liked the fact that the John Deere was plastic because it wouldn't dent or Russ I don't know how in the future they're both going to last so I can't really say but that wasn't going to be my determining factor on which tracked her to buy so then it came down to price I was kind of leaning toward the Kubota over the John Deere and the Kubota dealer was easier to work with and threw in a couple items that sold us now before he threw in those items the Kubota was cheaper than the John Deere both of the estimates shown here are for 2019 model years our 2018 tractor was 2,000 dollars less than what this estimate shows the John Deere is for a forty six horsepower tractor but they also have a thirty nine horsepower tractor for about forty five hundred dollars less so the Kubota at forty two horsepower still beats it and then the dealer threw in wheel weights and he also got us a deal on the bucket there was a customer who came in and didn't one hit the bucket on his tractor so they had one sitting in the yard that was all faded out but was brand new and we got that bucket for $200 and a brand new bucket was going to be 500 plus dollars so we slap some paint on that little bucket and it's brand new works great so in the end I think all three of these tractors are gonna get the work done for you if you're looking at the same horsepower tractors one that might get it done with a little bit more comfort one might get it done a little bit faster and one definitely is gonna get it done for a cheaper price so in the end I think you get more bang for your buck with the Kubota than the John Deere and even though I still think that John Deere is a better looking tractor the orange is starting to grow on me but if you like these videos press like and subscribe and we'll see you on the next one
