the Broncos initial hype has finally died down but demand is still crazy high so today I'm going to tell you why this thing is so desirable the major and minor drawbacks and what's new for 2023. starting off the changes Ford has listened to complaints and quietly added a subwoofer to all Broncos including the base last year we got the extreme Everglades Edition and the way more extreme Bronco Raptor this year we're getting the Heritage and Heritage limited Trends the farmer is based on the Big Bend comes with plaid cloth and a bunch of white accents and trim pieces the Heritage limited also gets plaid but comes fully loaded on the Badland stream and is also Limited in numbers to just 1966. both models will also come equipped with the Sasquatch package while I personally think they look a little tacky it does offer a distinct look and I'm all for having more options which actually leads me to my first reason to pick up a Bronco and that is it is extremely configurable before I explain that if you enjoy fun detailed car content without fluff consider subscribing and hitting the bell for notifications you can go with a very base model that Demands a price a little over thirty thousand dollars when equipped with a manual transmission you can go two-door you can go four-door you can get a street oriented version you can get various different off-road versions some more mild some tailored for extreme use and some for a bargain budget and then now of course you have the Raptor which is absolutely insane with very serious Fox off-road racing shocks and springs that can allow the thing to literally jump a much wider track along with massive 37 inch wheels and even bigger more powerful engine then of course there's a ton of individual accessories that you can put on on these things or you can go after market two different four-wheel drive systems you can get a Sasquatch package on every trim which includes things like a front and rear locking diff Bilstein suspension bigger tires giving the thing I believe 11 inches and some change of ground clearance and you can get that on any Engine with any transmission now you have a 2.3 liter EcoBoost four-cylinder with 300 horsepower on premium but it's also rated for regular where it makes 275. while it doesn't make an excessive amount of power at the high end it's torquey nature makes for a very usable Power Band resulting in a 8 second 0-60 time with the larger tires and aggressive gearing of the Badlands or 7.4 seconds with a stripped down Big Bend 10-speed Auto and if you want more you can get a 2.7 liter twin turbocharged EcoBoost and then there's the Raptor that has 418 horsepower from a three liter EcoBoost and thankfully there's a manual transmission offered and that's actually my next reason to pick up a Bronco I'm going to make it its own reason because it's that good it's a seven speed or six speed with a crawler gear the shifter has a smooth action with a reassuring thunk into each gear the clutch is relatively easy to operate there could be more feedback on both ends but the well-spaced ratios and lack of rev hang help make up for the slight disconnect if it had shorter throws I really would say this feels like something that belongs in a smaller sportier car it's also pretty difficult to stall so if you're learning or just rusty this really isn't a bad truck to buy and it's also worth mentioning that the 10-speed automatic is tuned very well it shifted smooth in my review from last year and avoided gear hunting I just find the manual to be a bigger distinguishing factor for the Bronco plus that crawler Gear with the four low makes it have a crazy crawl ratio this transmission is only available with the 2.3 my next reason is the most obvious in that that will be the off-road prowess along with the features to help you out so first off you have trims like the Badlands and the Black Diamond that are not specialty specs but offer great things like full underbody protection that covers the important stuff rock rails and in the Badlands case a disconnecting front stabilizer bar but that will be able to do it on the Fly which is really cool to watch and also very helpful for your articulation the Badlands also gets your front and rear locking diff going with the V6 will get you Trail turn assist which actually breaks the inner rear wheel to allow for a very tight turning Circle when off-road you also have a lot of ground clearance but that mainly depends on what wheel size you're in you have phenomenal approach and departure angles and an intense breakover as well and it almost goes without saying you have four wheel drive on every Bronco you can opt for a very aggressive final drive ratio ranging all the way up to 4.7 to 1 like what I have here there's also different suspension setups though Ford claims all of them are very much oriented towards backwards bashing but despite this focus of the Bronco my next reason to pick one up is that it also has great on-road manners so the comfort is part of this it is smooth controlled and fairly forgiving for an off-road truck but the thing that stands out to me more is going to be the handling body roll is not too intense easily in line with something like a Toyota 4Runner maybe a little bit better especially when it comes to brake dive the steering even here with 35 inch wheels it handles better than my Toyota Tacoma it has a direct feeling a fairly quick ratio appropriate waiting for the size of the thing and it doesn't feel like I'm constantly correcting it on the highway I did review this when it had the stock wheel size if you want to watch my full Bronco review or the 7-speed manual specific I'll link that Below on top of good engineering it its confidence comes from rack and pinion steering with independent front suspension but before a Jeep guy tries to find my address and torture me with pentastar V6 noises at 2 am this setup will not take as much abuse as the wrangler's solid front axle and recirculating ball steering another reason that makes this all the more attractive to me is the interior really just as a whole but some of my favorite Parts include the materials people are saying it for sixty thousand dollars this is not very luxurious and of course it is not very luxurious for sixty thousand dollars you can get one for 35 you can get one for 40 and it's supposed to be durable easy to clean a lot of the things that you'll see in luxury cars are not exactly things that you'll want to get dirty or hose out and they do this without it feeling too chintzy or poorly put together for the most part there are definitely some low points but I also like the general layout it feels very fresh I think that the infotainment system is phenomenal especially here with the 12 inch screen and I like that they still retain the buttons and dials but the infotainment itself is easy to use highly configurable and comes with Wireless Apple carplay and Android auto standard across the board the speaker system though really everything else that involves the media experience even the digital gauge cluster in there is pretty good I do wish especially for the manual transmission that I had either a traditional tack or something that didn't look the way that it does because it isn't the easiest thing for me to see when I'm downshifting and if you're wondering I am six foot three I fit in the front with Comfort I have adequate support and space behind myself there are no rear vents which can become a nuisance especially in the winter with a soft top and the cargo area is boxy and practical a little better than the Wrangler but not as cavernous as the Forerunner you will certainly make a compromise if you go with the two-door though I found passenger space in the rear seat to be more acceptable than I was thinking I also like that you can get cloth green grain vinyl or leather if you want and they even have like a rubberized flooring that you can get on the black diamonds Badlands Everglades and Raptor which is great because it's super easy to hose out but all of them will have drain plugs and honestly that deserves another reason there are a ton of details quirks helpful touches whatever you want to call them Laden throughout the Bronco you can get a metal bumper if you want which is awesome if you're going off-road and maybe mildly running into things on occasion all of them have these sights which helps you figure out where the end of the hood is but also functions as a nice tie-down point and anything with these like Bronco bolts you can take it out and replace it with something else it's a very modular vehicle there's a lot of the off-road details that I've already talked about but you in addition have frameless doors which are kind of Bittersweet it does make taking them off and storing them quite a bit easier and you can even get door bags and throw them into the cargo area if you want the downside there is that the the doors are not very solid feeling glass kind of just goes but the available auxiliary switches are really cool and extremely easy to hook up Ford also thought of giving you a charging port on the dash if you wanted to power something like a GoPro they also offer these Molly panel lattice looking things that allows you to secure and attach various items door Pockets which use a netting but allow for a very wide variety of things and I could definitely keep going here though I want to know what your favorite Bronco bits are if you own one but now I want to get into the drawbacks one thing that isn't a reason to stay away from all Broncos is reliability so mainly speaking with the 2.7 liter ecoboosts it was due to a large bad batch of valves for the 2.7 liter V6 that when it fails will destroy the engine but supposedly this should just affect Vehicles made up until October 2021 so we're going to need more updates as we go along the 2 2.3 liter is much much more reliable though some people have reported wastegate problems that would require a turbo replacement though that is rare Ford has addressed some of the issues like a whistling and leaking windshield due to bad adhesive select people have also had qualms with the wiper motors backup camera and a dangerous brake booster too broken tie rods aren't entirely uncommon with larger Wheels if you're bashing it off-road there were also numerous issues with the hard tops Ford revised them but some are still reporting a leak and peeling issue after 15 000 miles this 2021 model has had zero issues I'd personally stray away from the 2.7 for a little longer if you plan on owning it outside of a warranty but I'm not scared at all of a 2.3 Bronco now when it comes to the drawbacks with the Bronco itself I'm going to say wind noise it's loud even if it's not whistling I haven't driven one with a hardtop but I haven't heard that that is serene either again outside of their portability I'm not a big fan of the frameless doors I think they should have made tweaks to that before it hit production gas mileage is not great I averaged about 18 here driving mostly Highway a Jeep is a little smaller helping on Trails especially if we're comparing the two-door models plus it has a more proven V6 while this matches the Jeep the Broncos max tow rating of 3500 pounds in most specs is behind the Forerunner either sound system in the Bronco is not impressive the stick shift version requires stepping up to the Badlands just to get the mid package features the price can get steep if you're not stingy with options the wireless charger also tends to broil your phone and the rear glass situation on the soft tops is kind of annoying but some aftermarket Hydraulics will alleviate that quickly overall I don't think any of these downsides take away my appreciation for how much effort Ford put into the Bronco it's an SUV that feels special while being well-mannered and built to a purpose if you enjoyed the video then leave a like to help me buck up the YouTube algorithm subscribe and hit the bell for more and thank you to my loyal patrons I'll catch you in the next one oh my toes are numb why is my toe numb actually that doesn't make any sense
