every one ten outdoors nine with the remaining light I have this afternoon and it is going as I speak actually going to show you something with the 5.56 millimeter NATO this is US military surplus 62-grain green tip we're going to try something at two hundred yards in just a moment the green tip this particular batch I picked up at a gun store is 62 grain Full Metal Jacket there is a lead core but at the very tip of that lead core is a steel penetrator it is not a pea designated as an armor-piercing but it does have capabilities of going through mild steel at a moderate distance now a lot of folks today seem to run with the 16 inch variant of the AR this is what I have here Rock River arms upper receiver with a one to nine twist and I'll touch on that in just a moment Bushmaster lower receiver and riding on top is the EOTech model five one six no magnification what you're looking at now is an IPS see target set up at 200 yards reviewing this through a spotting scope set at 20 power you can see my first five shot group my yo tech is sighted at 200 yards I'm going to move it down for clicks aiming for the very center of the target again no magnification and here's a quick compilation of those five shots okay by this point I have fired several other groups which I'm not showing in the video fading light wind is coming in 15 miles per hour left to right 8 o'clock to 2 o'clock position three clicks to my left elevation is the same by shot group I am clear let's see what that looks like I'm not too good but I'm gonna have to go with it because I'm losing light there's a table where I'll be set up in just a moment and the rifle resting on sandbags you can tell that the lighting has changed relative those previous segments where I was siting in assumed out 200 yards laser measured there's that IPSec target and it has something attached to the left side what's that all about this is what's set up at 200 yards on the side of my tips at Target I have clamped a piece of hot rolled steel this is quarter of an inch thick four inches by 12 inches and certainly hoping to hit it somewhere in this zone it actually might take two or three shots in this light without magnification but at 200 yards the green tip from the muzzle velocity I quoted a moment ago it's dropped down to approximately 2,000 335 feet per second in the ballpark of 750 foot-pounds of energy so is that going to be enough to clear this quarter-inch steel now what's happening here over the last couple of hours is I've been just target shooting and sighting in we're getting a pretty good divot or scratch from the green tip on this ar500 steel certainly that's not going to go through let's see if that's the case with this piece of steel and also have a remote camera set up over here just to the left for the record I cannot see so Park the Jeep downrange it's off to the right it's not in any danger in fact it's blocked by some trees from here I just need some illumination here we go let's get some of these shots it's going to take hopefully just one don't warn that that hit something after I made the hit I ran down here to the target at full speed left the rifle back to the table thank goodness it was unloaded and clear I did have the camera in my hand and I hit a hole and went flying sprained my ankle really bad and some other things the camera is working obviously but it took a pretty good hit we did get a pass through I could not see that first hit I in fact I didn't hear it but I did hear this one it did clear all the way through that's amazing I was really wondering if there was enough behind the 16 inch launch platform of the AR before that to go through you can see there's light coming through so that is a clear pass through I'll try to do a quick follow up off site after I can get my leg on some ice ya screwed up in the woods that night this is going to slow things down around here for a while just have to deal with it made an adjustment on my carry scenario this is the Glock 32 357 sig and thanks to some duct tape I'm good to go there so let's look at this plate that's not the hole punch and we're looking at today but I think that would do the job so here's the the first shot I could not hear or obviously see that we just nicked the side of it there but it went through and here's the one that counted so it will do it with the reduced velocity out of the 16 inch barrel running just over 2300 feet per second estimated at 200 yards it cleared all the way through that's quarter-inch just flip it around what would be interesting to see is if I had a soft target the block or maybe just some water jugs I'm good for that to see what kind of impact we have on a soft target what kind of remnants we have going into that after it passes through this at 200 yards
