5 WooCommerce Sales Boosting Hacks

good morning have you built an ecommerce website with woocommerce but you're not getting many sales well you're not getting any sales well here are five actionable hacks that you can do today on your woocommerce websites that are going to give your sales a real boost they are all backed by the baymard institute which is the world's leading research institute for e-commerce websites and i've trawled through 5 000 case studies and picked out five things that you can do on your site very easily so here we go here are five sales boosting hacks that you can do today right let's focus down on the product page just the product page for now i've got some examples of some things i put together which i want to show you which will give you some ideas on how you can boost your sales just focusing on this one page so i'm going to flick through them and explain what i've done and then afterwards i'll show you some options on how you can build pages like this let's start with this one so this is uh for a cycling holiday i'm a big cyclist uh a cycling holiday in majorca and can you see how the product image is full width it's absolutely enormous and it's a beautiful image and it really shows and sells the dream of what the holiday is all about normally the woocommerce product image is teeny tiny well not teeny tiny but it's kind of quite small whereas for some products like a cycling holiday or a holiday or um where you've got these beautiful images and you really want to sell the dream of that experience then being able to break free of the constraints of that small image is incredibly important uh and this is this is what this example shows you you know we've been really selling the dream of this holiday and i'm much more likely to purchase this product because i'm excited by the prospect of going to majorca right next up next example um and this one is really just showing again we've got a different layout but the thing i want to show you really is this top bit here and this is showing a customer review where i've just pulled out a customer review and placed it kind of front and center of the product and customer reviews are a brilliant way you know when i'm buying products i'll always go through all the reviews and sometimes on some sites they're really hard to find but you have the opportunity to pull out the best ones and make them you know really visible for your potential customers this is an example of what you could do but you could put them anywhere because remember you you can customize this product page any way you like so that's another great idea uh this this page has two things i want to show you on the first one is and these are both around creating a sense of urgency uh for your potential customers so you encourage them to take action that's what this is all about and there's two discreet tactics we're using on this page and they're both countdown timers uh the first one is this here this visual way of showing how much stock you've got left in and this other one here this is a sort of more standard sales countdown timer that just counts down so when somebody's on this page and they see you know there's not much stock left or they see that the sale is ending soon you encourage them to make that purchase there and then they don't go off and wander around the internet but they purchase and will boost your sales a couple more to show you this is um an example of how you can really use video so if you have good video or product video it can be incredibly powerful in terms of you know giving your customers a much richer view on what your product does and this is just a video it's a fantastic video but you know crikey this shows off the product in much more detail uh um than just having an image so you can replace your product image with a you know beautiful video if you have them and then this final one here is the use of swatches and again i'll put um this is using a excuse me a plug-in to do this and i'll put the link in the description below so you can have these swatches over here now we've just got colors but you can also have images as your swatches and your readers can actually visualize you know properly what the product is going to look like so rather than just having a dull drop down you can have these nice watches and again on this page can you see over on the right here we've got a to put in a testimonial so there's some discrete examples of the things you can do just to elevate your product pages away from just this sort of standard commoditized uh woocommerce layout that you get out of the box okay i want to show you really really really quickly how you can customize the product page you've got two real options in terms of customizing the product page you can use elementor to do it or you can use our plugin this is woo builder block so this works with the gutenberg block builder so if you're using the block builder the block editor then this will work and what this does it enables you to turn the normal woocommerce product into one you can edit fully with the gutenberg block editor so this is how it works very very quickly you'll see over on the right here the plugin adds this button that says enable woo builder blocks let me click on that and that lets you turn this the normal layout into a block editor layout so you can customize it however you like and you can use any blocks within it and we've built all the blocks you need to reconstruct the woocommerce product page which i'll show you in a second you've got three options to start with you can start from scratch you can choose one of the templates we've provided or you can use one of your own templates i'm going to start from scratch and you'll see when i click on that button it will then turn this product into a gutenberg type of product and now i can basically use the gutenberg the block editor to layout this product however i like and if i click on the block symbol here and scroll down i'll just show you quickly all the blocks that we've added for you to reconstruct your page and we've put all the blocks that you need to basically rebuild your pages so you know we've got product title add to cart stock countdown price the product tabs block related products short description product images we've got some additional blocks in here as well which will help boost your sales like a stock countdown and a sales countdown and some other cool stuff and then basically you just add these blocks into your page over here and you can lay out you know the page however you like and you can use the column block to create your grids or any other third-party uh blocks in here you can also customize each block that we've added this is the the product heading so you can do things like increase the font size and then you can achieve you know these beautiful layouts um very very quickly and then you can create templates out of these and apply them to multiple products so again i'm not going to go into too much detail on how you can do it i just wanted to show you the theory behind how you can do this i will put a link in the description below for a much richer and longer tutorial on how you can really utilize this product but the principle is you can design it however you like this next one is how you can upsell your products through your blog so if you have a blog that's driving traffic to your website it is a big opportunity for you to upsell your products within the posts there are four great ways you can do this i'm going to show you each each one in turn but it's really simple to do and i see a lot of sites that aren't utilizing this and it's a big miss opportunity so here's the um way number one you can do it this is the simplest well maybe not the simplest but it's the most unknown way so if let's say i wanted to advertise this product in one of my posts all you have to do is you go to the product and not many people know this works and you copy the url of the product up there in the address bar then you just go back to your post here and make sure you're on a new line and you literally paste that link in and it's going to bring the product in like so very cool very simple and then that products within that post when somebody reads it and you'll see there's a buy now button and all the normal stuff you'd expect on it so that's way number one way number two is you can utilize woocommerce blocks so woocommerce have released a bunch of blocks that are part of woocommerce now and you'll find them all in the block library and here they are there's quite a few one of my favorite ones is the featured product one let me show you that one if i can actually find it here where's it gone there it is that one there and that brings the product in you can you can decide which products you bring in here um so let's bring in the bracelet and it's going to feature it nicely like this um and it'll have a nice you know it'll make it nice full width it'll have a nice button on here you can change the size by drag dragging up and down you can add an overlay color and change the opacity over here you can change the focal point of the product as well all sorts of stuff and whether to show the description and the price so it's relatively customizable so that's number that's way number two now all these ways i'm showing you at the moment are manual i'm going to show you an automated way in a second uh this is the third way so we have a plug-in called storefront blocks which gives you a bit more uh interesting layouts that you could use um these are a bunch of premium blocks that we've created that take your layouts to the next level really there's a whole lot in here um one of my favorites is this one the product flipbook that lets you bring in these lovely flip books in like this automatically where you can show a range of products on this page and then your users can flip through them and again it's it's fully customizable um so that's three options and that's me manually putting each of these within the post if you've got thousands of posts that might not be easy for you to do so we are building a new plugin which i'm going to show you quickly here which is on this site now what this does it lets you dynamically inject content into posts and pages on your site um it's not quite released we're calling it the block injector for woocommerce uh but the principle is this you create your you create your um offers or whatever you like over here and we're just using the block editor to create these so you can lay these out however you like you can you know bring third-party blocks in here this could be a woocommerce block for example if you wanted to but here's one i've created and i'm just using the block editor to create this but the cool stuff is over here uh in the customizer in the block customizer this is where we decide where we want this block to go so we at the moment this is set to show on all posts at the top but i could say right i only want it on specific posts or posts by a certain category and you can also position it after a heading or at the bottom or after a certain number of blocks on your site which is incredibly powerful so you can only you can create it once basically and then it's going to appear in multiple places so at the moment i've set this to appear on every single post at the top and there it is okay but if i wanted to i could go back and say right only show on these specific posts of this category or just these posts or these posts but not these posts uh and that's called the block injector for woocommerce it's not quite released but that's going to be incredibly powerful if you've got you know hundreds or thousands of posts but you want to inject these product offers uh within your blog right this one's really really interesting so this is a website that's just uh just discovered but it's really profound in terms of what it's doing we're talking about improving your copy and it this kind of blew me away a bit because i've used it on my site to improve some of the copy now apologies to any copywriters out there but for for people that maybe can't afford a copywriter or want to try and diy it this is really interesting so what this does is automated copywriting but it uses some frameworks to improve improve your copy and it's it's kind of phenomenal and it'll also teach you how to write better copy as well which is what i found when i've been using it now the two the two the the three three and three sorry the three things along the top here are the most interesting so what i would recommend you do with this by the way because this is quite pricey uh this is called converse conversion.ai it's quite pricey so you could sign up for a month um and then stop the subscription but you could use that period to improve all the copy on your product pages and this is especially useful for products also for service businesses but these two these frameworks that he it uses are really really interesting and i have to be honest i didn't really know about these before and i've been in this this area for a long long time so the ada framework and the past framework but it also does product descriptions but i just want to show you the ada framework for today so what you do you come here and this is this is a computer doing this for you so you have to you have to give it a go to believe it to see it this is one i did earlier so you put in your company name or your product name over here you put in your product description and look all i put in here was we offer wordpress training courses throughout the uk and then what it does this is a really cool bit it basically takes that that framework so the ada framework is attention interest desire and action and writes your copy subject to those headings and so in this case the attention is are you looking for a wordpress training course the interest is we offer the best training wordpress training courses in the uk you will learn how to create your own website blog or online store with wordpress our courses are designed for beginners and intermediate users so don't worry if you have no experience at all and then the desire bit is with our help you can build your dream site in just one day uh and we won't charge you an arm and a leggy that our prices are affordable and fair so what are you waiting for sign up today and then the action is click this ad right now and sign up for your next course now obviously you can change the text and it gives you other options as well it gives you three versions down here but it's phenomenal uh because it's starting to structure your text in a way that'll hopefully create uh conversions for you that's the whole idea behind this and i have to say i've been using this for a couple of weeks and it's made a big difference so um i'm a skeptic by nature but my advice is uh give it a go you can sign up for a month and just go through all your products or your services that you use and just take them through this you don't have to use it but it'll give you some ideas and it will give you a framework on how you might think about improving your copywriting so you're not just flailing around in the dark thinking about what you might write but it's giving you or teaching you um a structure that you might use um so i'll put a link in the description below you know copy is massively important and i would i'll just give it a shot give it a go right next up i want to talk about the woocommerce shop page and the category page and i've got some discreet things that you could do to boost these now again these pages by default are preset by woocommerce which means the layout is kind of dull and bland but there are a number of things that you could be doing to make this page um to sell more products on this page i just want to show you what these are we're going to be using the woocommerce blocks plugin and our storefront blocks plugin to essentially customize these pages and again there are much longer tutorials that i've done on how to do this and i will put a link to those um in the description below for you but i just want to show you the kind of things you could be thinking about when you do customize these pages the first is the order of your of the order of your products now you can change the order of your products which again not not everyone knows about so i just want to show you um how you do this using woocommerce so there's a number of ways you can change the order of the products on these pages this one of the simplest ways is this you just go to your products on your woocommerce store so here we have our products and this is the order they will normally come out in when you know when you publish them on your shop page this is what we're talking about but if you want to change the order you can actually hand sort these and you'll see this sorting option up here you just click onto that and now once you click on that you can actually just drag these up and down like so and that will be the order that they appear on the shop page so you know you might want to put your best sellers at the top uh or your newest products or you know the ones that are most exciting but that's how you can control at least the order but if you want even more control then i'd probably recommend that you um you know completely customize the woocommerce shop page and the category pages and here's a few examples of some that have been customized let me just show you this so here's a custom shop page and again if we look at the you know the normal woocommerce shop page it's kind of a bit rubbish frankly it just lists products and it's okay for what it does but if you can customize it you know you might want to have in this example you might want to have a uh you know big sales countdown at the top here you might want to have a nice masonry grid where you're you're having your categories um underneath here um you might want to have products that have just arrived or sale items you might want to have some testimonials you might want to have some faqs on this page where you're answering any sales objections up front and you might want to have things like you know your history on this page as well and because you can customize this page using the block editor and the storefront blocks plug-in you can design this this key page however you like you can also do exactly the same thing for your category pages again your category category pages are normally uh with woocommerce dynamically generated and you don't have any control over the layout they'll just list your products in a grid which might be okay but if you want you know to really impress your customers or to get your messaging out there you can customize this page and again i'll put a link to a more in-depth tutorial on how to customize the category page in the description but this is an example of one that's been customized again using the block editor where you can you know really focus in on the products make the page look you know beautiful so it reflects your brand in a much more visual way here's a few other concrete things that you might think about doing on your shop pages as well so i just want to show you these two quickly so this is the um possibility of showing your product descriptions rather than just the product titles on the pro on the shop pages and again you can do this with you can do it with our storefront blocks plugin but there are some other plugins you can do this with again it's just giving your readers more detail on the product right on the shop page rather than just a product image and then if two other things i want to show you here is the ability to show the quantity to actually for people to um you know choose multiples of these right from the shop page you can all you can normally do this from the product page but having for some products you want the ability to do this right on this on the shop page two more things to show you and i just want to show you this quickly and this is a block which is useful for certain types of product which is this one here this is a product table block that comes with our storefront blocks plugin again there are other plugins that let you create uh product tables and i'll put a link to some of the best ones below in the description this is this is ours and this is great where you've you've got um a list of products and you want you don't really the product doesn't warrant people going to each product to read about it and they can choose the quantities over here on the right for each product so that's that's great for certain types of products and the final thing that you want to think about on your product pages is the ability to have different layouts for mobile and for desktop which so mobile's becoming incredibly important for online stores and then in this example this grid has been set for four columns on desktop three on tablet and two on the phone so it'll change on those proportions when i resize my window and let me show you this as i resize my browser window here we'll get to a certain size that's the sort of tablet size and you'll see it's gone to three columns and then if i go even smaller you'll see it goes into two columns that's what it would look like on a phone and again that's all built into the uh the block itself this is using a um a block of ours called uh the square grid block so you can actually customize the layout depending on the device that it's being viewed on so that's increasingly important as you know everyone's on their phones these days so hopefully that's given you a few ideas on how you can you know elevate your shop pages and your category pages to boost your sales right this next one is speed of your website which is incredibly important for two reasons the first is there is a big google update coming in may called the google core web vitals update where speed and page experience of your site is going to be a ranking factor that's not reason number one second reason is speed of your website will impact people's purchasing so if you have a slow website your conversion rates will decrease this is backed up by lots and lots of research to test your website go to this website here i will put a link in the description below but if you just google google page speed insights testing tool you'll come here and you just pop in your website here pop in your website address click analyze and it will trundle off and it will tell you um some criteria basically whether you pass or fail um the test the google call web vitals test so it'll take a few seconds this is my website so i'm passing at the moment 94 on mobile and 98 it does change a bit so run it a few times and then down here will tell you let me make this bigger for you let me try and make this bigger for you this down here will tell you whether you pass or fail um the google call web vitals test basically so that's going to important important for your search engine optimization so if it's likely if you've never looked at this before that your site will probably fail now there are a number of things you can do to improve the speed of your website there are some great caching plugins out there and i'll put i'll try and put a link to some of those in the description below as well but i have just discovered this new service not a new service but the service called nitro pack which blew my mind a bit again i've done longer tutorials on nitro pack because it's phenomenal and that's how i'm getting the page speed increases that i'm getting on my website and other people are finding the same thing they do have a free version um so you can set up on your website it's very simple to set up you just they have a connector a free connector plug-in that you add onto your website and then you sign up for a nitro pack account and again you can start for free to test it out um and it basically it's an online think of it simply as like an online caching service but it's absolutely phenomenal the speed increases you'll see that's these are the sort of speeds i'm the sort of scores i'm getting and i'm seeing this replicated uh on lots of lots of websites uh that i've been using it on so speed is an incredible incredibly important consideration if your site is failing or you're getting low score here's um addressing it will certainly boost your sales so that's my five sales
