what's up my YouTube Friends OBS has a lot of incredible built-in features but there are a lot of quality of life things that aren't necessarily a priority when they develop the software that's where the OBS Community comes in big time there are plugins for all kinds of different functions and OBS and a lot of them just make life streaming much easier if you run a complex stream you're always looking for ways to make it easier through Automation and simple tools and they're all out there as plugins today I'm going to show you the best OBS plugins for 2023 that you can add Automation and quality of life improvements as well as a lot of visual effects this is my top five so you know what let's get to it okay for those that don't know plugins are Community created add-ons for OBS and all of the ones that I'll be talking about today are totally free the install process for each is different but there are two main ways most plugins are going to have a normal install file others are just going to have files that go into folders in the OBS directory now the plug-in page is going to tell you what the install procedure is for each one now here's the page that lists all the OBS plugins and you're going to find a link to this in the description down below along with a link to all the plugins that I talk about let me show you our first plugin that's the move transition plugin this is the move plugin right here and you're going to just go to download to download it and these are zip files are going to want to do the installers it just makes it easier the Mac OS is going to have a zip file with an installer and so is the Linux one so you don't have to do any copying files it just installs it for you so that's the easiest way to go with this now once you have the move transition installed the basics are really easy if I switch scenes right here you can see that I just have a standard Stinger transition on here but what I'm going to do here is I'm going to click the plus right here and we're going to select the move transition and I'm going to click OK and then we have some options in here as to different ways that we can set this up but generally speaking you don't have to do a whole heck of a lot here in fact as you'll see if I just click ok it will work just fine it will move assets around the screen so when I go here you can see that it'll just move that now I have it set to 3000 milliseconds so let's make it 300 instead and then when I do this it'll happen a lot faster it just kind of swaps in these as smooth as you want and actually we'll try 500 milliseconds and slow that transition down just a little bit more and then on this third one here you can see everything just kind of swaps so it'll take your standard cameras or your standard scene and move it around but it will actually do more than that so if I select here and let's right click and I'm going to just duplicate this scene right here click OK and then I'm gonna bring it up here and what I'll do is I'm gonna for this scene we'll move this one off the screen we'll move this one off the screen and we'll just embig in this Center one here like that and there we go so now we can go from here to here to here to here and it happens all in very smooth ways which means you can just basically move assets around the screen and do all kinds of really cool things you could do this not just with cameras but with like a video asset or a text asset so if you're trying to just make menus rotate or you want different menus on your screen for each one we click the button it can bring it in from the side it can scroll it down from the top however you want to do it and if you use the settings in there you can change it up so they'll move in different ways and it's really awesome but that is just the tip of the iceberg of what you can do with the move transition let me show you so what I'm going to do is I'm going to right click down here on our sources for our particular scene and we're going to go ahead into filters and then I'm going to click the plus and I'm going to go to move source and I'll click OK and so we have move Source in here and which source let's do our video capture device which is our main camera and I'm just going to get the transform for this particular source so that takes the actual position of this right here and what I'm going to do is if I just activate it you can see it doesn't do anything but now what I'll do is move this off the screen here and I'm going to go ahead and click the plus and I'm going to add another move source and we'll just call this move Source 2 for now to make it but you're going to probably want to name these but for now we'll just call it move source 2. and then I'm going to take my source and we'll just make it a little smaller put it down here in the bottom left and then I'm gonna go and I'm gonna make sure I have the right Source selected right here and I'm going to get the transform so now if I click here we get our regular Source if I click here it will move it here now you can add hotkeys for this so that you can move your Source anywhere you want on your scene without having to actually change scenes so we can do this again I can click the plus and I can go ahead and move my source and we'll this will be move Source three I'm going to go ahead and select our video capture device and we'll move it up here into our top right corner and this is great for playing video games or something like that you can hot key to move your camera around so it's not blocking any action or anything I just click get transform and there we go now we have three setups so I can move to our big Source our little Source or up to the top right and if you wanted to really make a some sort of alert or a series where your camera pops all over the screen or does crazy stuff what you can do is we can go to move Source One at the top and what I can do is I can have this say a next move so make so the next move might be move Source two and then what I could do is go to move Source 2 and have the next move down here say move to Source three and then what I can do is I can go to move Source three and have the next move say move source right there and boom now this needless to say is going to put it in a big circle where it's just going to travel around you're going to want to have a break in this which is easy to program in but for now this is what this does you know so you could set that up as a really cool alert now I'm going to stop that and what I'm going to do is just duplicate this last this first move source and what I'm going to do here is I'll go to move Source three and I'm going to set this so that it goes to move Source Four then I'm going to go into move Source Four and I am just going to click none and there we go so now if we were to trigger this with a hotkey or maybe we set it up so that it would just be an alert of something it will just go like this and you can have all kinds of crazy movements you can even flip the camera or do whatever you want to make really fun alerts out of this if you wanted to so that's just a little bit of an introduction to all the crazy things that you can do with the move transition and believe me when I tell you there's actually a lot more too it's one of my absolute favorite OBS plugins I just love the move transition plugin it gives you so many really cool options the next one is the downstream keyer here's the page for that you can just go to download and this also has an install file so that is what I would download it's for Linux Mac and windows so it works on everything so once you have it installed what you can do is go up into your view and then you're going to want to go to your docs actually and you're going to see Downstream keyer right here you pop it up it's going to bring it out here and you can just dock it wherever you want and here's what the downstream keyer does it's really fantastic so let's say we wanted to add something that pops up on screen well all I have to do is go here and do a scene and let's just call this DS1 and click OK and then I'm going to click I'm gonna create a source so I'm going to go in here and let's add a media source and call this ta TJ yeah why not and I'm going to click browse and I'm just going to go to the location for the source that I want to add and click open and I'm not going to Loop it and I'm just going to click OK and you can see it just brings up this little video file right here so um while we're in there I'm going to have that selected and I'm just going to go ahead and click the Plus in the downstream keyer and it shows up as DS1 which is the name of this so you're probably going to want to name this obviously with something that you recognize so now we can go to any scene and when I select DS1 it's going to automatically play that over top of everything and then it's going to go away so you want to pause it so it's not highlighted and then you can click it again you can pretty much do this with any Source any Source at all video audio so you can set up a sound board in the downstream keyer and the best part about the downstream keyer is it does not matter what scene I am on I click it and it's going to play there we go it's really that simple this means basically that you can add any kind of source to any scene that will pop up anytime that you want just by creating a scene for it and then adding it into the downstream keyer and you can have a bunch of different categories so let's say we wanted this first category to be named something specific well we can do that we can go in here into properties and we can rename it so maybe we want this one to just be assets and that's cool boom then we can go and we can add another one so we can call this one soundboard and click OK and now what we could do is just create a sound and you're probably going to want to name your specific sound if you're going to have multiple ones and you just go in here and we'll go to a media source and we'll call this one Sound Source and you just browse to the audio file that you want there we go fail obviously you would have it named properly and we'll click ok and now all we have to do is make sure that sound is selected and we're on the sound board click plus and now when we click this it's going to play our sound and the audience will be able to hear it now I don't have it playing through my audio which is why you can't hear it it's playing through headphones but there you go so we can actually go into any scene that we want and we can click that and that sound will play which is just fantastic and you can see the sound plane right there and then as soon as it's done we can just select it again and it will click off now you can use hotkeys for this and all kinds of cool stuff the best part is that you can put this in any scene so you can create an entire sound board that you can access just by clicking right here on the downstream keyer and playing the sound you can have a collection of assets that you could put over top of any scene just by setting them up right here this is probably one of the plugins that I use more than any other one I absolutely love it it's a game changer the downstream keyer makes aspects of streaming so much easier I don't know if I could stream without it anymore the third plugin is the advanced scene switcher now the advanced scene switcher Works a little differently on the install so let me walk you through it we go to go to download it's going to bring up the GitHub page and then we just have to go down here and find the asset that we're looking for and so there's Linux Mac OS and and then down here you're going to have your windows and it's an install file it's just a little different so you're just going to want to click on that it adds it to your downloads and there you go all you do is install it like all of the others once you have the advanced scene switcher installed you're going to go up here to tools and you're gonna see it right here Advanced scene switcher now it's not the automatic scene switcher which is actually built right into OBS this one is a little different so if yours doesn't look like mine you might not have installed it properly or you might have selected the automatic scene switcher we're going to use the advanced scene switcher and when we go into it here you're going to see that it checks for conditions every 300 milliseconds and right now it is currently inactive we can click Start to kick it off or we can set it up to start when OBS is running whatever you want to do but basically you're going to be here in the macros and what you can do with this is a wide array of automation activities from use from kicking off Source moves to switching scenes to adding all kinds of different things so what I use something like this for and we'll just create a macro one and the macro one you know you can name it and all that kind of stuff but for each Macro you you can uh run it in parallel with other macros or perform this only action basically you click the plus and you can add all kinds of things so if seen or you can select whatever thing you want so right now we have a scene selected these macros can be triggered based on all kinds of different parameters and everything else so we're just going to start out with if scene and you can put a duration modifier on there so if we were going to use this as a startup for your live stream maybe you have some videos that play before your live stream the scene would be whatever scene you start your live stream on so maybe you have a starting soon scene right and then you switch to an intro video and then a branding bumper and then maybe a quick commercial and then it flips right over into your live stream well it's really easy to set up in here you just go to scene then you can add the duration of the first video that you switch to like your countdown timer or whatever so you add the number of seconds in there and you tell it what the current scene is and then you can select the scene right here and then you can add where you want to switch to the next scene and you can put an entire series of switch twos in there so it will go from your starting soon and all you have to do is click to your countdown scene and when you do that because it's checking every 300 milliseconds it will automatically see that you're on your countdown string screen and it will start that macro which will count down the number of seconds it's on your countdown scene and automatically flip it over to say your branding bumper or some sort of intro video and then it will automatically flip it over to the next clip that you want to play and inevitably you can automatically flip it over into your main scene and then the macro is finished it's done and it won't run again unless you put it back to the countdown scene now that's the easiest way to use this but you can use this to literally trigger any kind of sequence that you want to happen from moving sources to adding sources to scenes to anything else based on all kinds of different triggers as you can see right here any of these different things can trigger the macro to run and cause it to do do all kinds of stuff that you said like if you have a timer or if it sees a specific transition it can set off a series of events you can actually program it to use the websocket so that if it sees an alert come in through the websocket because you have it set to look for that alert it can do all kinds of other things like maybe trigger some actions you have set up in the move transition or maybe even the downstream keyer so this one is more complicated it's going to take time for you to mess around with and work through but you can automate so many amazing things with it that I have to talk about it I mean I completely automate the entire beginning of my live stream while I'm getting everything set up with my wife and Michael T I just press a button and it goes through the sequence to start my live stream and you can even set it up so it will actually click Start streaming it will wait there for a certain period of time on your starting soon scene and then flip over so you can have the entirety of the beginning of your live stream 100 automated it's really awesome it's a bit complicated and if you really want to automate your live stream you're just gonna have to play around with it a little bit now this one does have a lot of instruction and an FAQ right on that plugins page that you can check out so you can learn more about all the incredible features it has I certainly can't cover them here in this simple video where I'm just going to give you an overview of the kind of things that are possible with these plugins but if it's something that interests you it's highly worth downloading checking out and learning how to use it can do some awesome things there are so many things that you can do you really need to just explore this one the next one is going to let you do all sorts of amazing things with just one camera I absolutely love that one now I use this one all the time here is the page for the source clone and if you go to download it's also an installer makes it super easy so what can you do with the source clone well let me give you an example so if I right click on my main camera or my main scene right here and we duplicate this main scene right uh so we have the same scene one and two right here and if I switch back and forth you can't see any difference they're exactly the same but if I take my video captured device and let's say we wanted to add some kind of effect so we'll right click on our camera and we'll go into filters and I'm going to click the plus and what I'm going to do is go and use this user defined Shader right here and click ok and then I'm going to use the effect file and I'm going to load the Shader from a text file and I'm just going to browse and I'm going to select a Shader file here let's try this fire effect click open and there we go so now we have a smoky effect right there that at that is added and we can we can modify this but I think you'll get my point just by doing this so we now have this Smoky effect here but what happens when I go back to the original scene it's the exact same thing I get the smoke effect now on this camera for every scene so let's go back and in fact if I click on it in the first scene and I go to filters you can see it's still there so what I'm going to do is I'm going to go ahead and remove this and I'll show you how to fix this so that you can have all kinds of different effects on the same camera to give you totally different looks in all kinds of ways so let's go back into our main two here and I'm going to select the video capture device just click the minus we're going to remove it out of there then I'm going to click the plus and we're going to go to Source clone and I'm going to click OK and for our clone type we're going to select source and for clone we're going to go ahead and select what we want to clone in this case our video capture device right there now we can also go ahead and use the audio from the Clone so it will bring in the audio for us and that's all we really need to do so now we have a source clone of the exact same video so now when we right click on here and we go to filters and click the plus and we go to user defined Shader we could go in here and we'll select the exact same Shader there we go so that's the same effect that we had before and we click close so now we have the fire effect and if we go back to main it's a regular camera so now we can add all kinds of different effects to to the exact same camera in different scenes because it clones that source and we have audio here as you can see if I go over here we also have audio and we have the filter now this might not be the best example of a filter and this filter is awesome you just kind of have to work with it a little bit but the simple fact remains that the source clone allows you to use the exact same camera to provide all kinds of different cool looks and it's fantastic I love The Source clone I use it all the time to do all kinds of different effects like masks and everything else to my camera so that one doesn't affect the other it's awesome I use the last one to spruce up a lot of things in my stream and add an extra element of movement to all kinds of different scenes now this one is called waveform and it's another go to the download it's going to bring you in here where you're just going to go down here to the installation it tells you everything that you need to know but this also has an installer on it which makes it really easy to install you just download the setup file for your 64-bit software or Mac OS or Ubuntu or whatever you want and it's pretty simple just run the installer you're ready to go okay so once we have the waveform installed we just click the plus and we can add it with the waveform visualizer and we're just going to click on OK and what I'm going to do is go and select our audio Source we're just going to use our microphone for this and we can use curve or bars whatever we want here let's just get the right audio Source there we go so we can use curve or bars and stepped bars and that's basically how all of this stuff works you can adjust the width the height all that sort of stuff the Gap in Between the Bars super easy this tells you how the stuff is laid out you got more options down here as to the way that this Peaks and valleys and you can mess around with this to get pretty much whatever look you want you can have it solid right now we have it in solid white so we could select a color that we want it to be and it will be that color we can also drop this down and select gradient and then we can have multiple colors so it goes from Blue and we'll set the second color to that yellow and there we go so now we have a gradient and click OK and we can basically drop this put it wherever we want so now we have you know some nice little waveform now I use this sort of stuff at the bottom of the screen all over the place with different settings sometimes I'll create two or three of them so that they are go up all across the screen and they're not too large so it's really really easy to set this up and use it and there's a lot more that you can do with it as well this one is pretty cool but let me show you another one now I'm going to right click on that Source clone go to filters I'm going to click the plus here and I'm going to go to our image mask and I'm gonna select a mask for this and we'll just use this Spike mask there we go and I'm going to click close on there and now I'm going to add waveform to this let's add a background as well so let's go ahead and add an image and we'll click ok I'm just going to browse find an image file choose that one right there and boom we'll drop that down below so now we have an image file in the background and I'm going to go ahead and click the plus and I'm going to go to our waveform visualizer and I'm going to do the source as the microphone and I'm going to select bars on this one and for this one I'm going to choose the radial layout which I really like and we're going to select rounded caps which I really like and I want to invert the radial Direction so we're poking out words instead of going inwards and then what I'm going to do go down here and I'm going to set up our colors again and we'll go with gradient so our second color will be that yellow once again and what I want to do is adjust the gradient ratio so we have more of the blue and less of the yellow so we're gonna go like that and then we're just gonna have the yellow kind of poking out at the tips at the top so there we go I think that's what we're looking for so I'm going to click OK and I'm just going to Envision this so it fits over here [Music] I think that's about right I don't hate how that looks we can actually shrink it up maybe a little bit like that and then what I'm going to do is just drop this down below our source clone and there we go so then what I'll do is I'll right click on this visualizer I'll go to copy and then I'll right click down here and go to paste duplicate and then what I'll do with our pasted duplicate is I'll right click and I'll go to transform and I will flip it horizontally so now we have a little bit more of some action I'll move this down here and there we go and you can create another copy of it and flip it vertically and then you'll have the bottom down here filled in so now we have a cool little pulsing thing that happens you can shrink it make it bigger do whatever you want with it the best part about this is you can be really creative and you don't have to use your microphone you can use an audio Source like music or something that you have playing in the background to just give subtle action and movement on your screen I usually will use this mask in a much smaller area of the screen so generally speaking this would be you know that big so you're not having this massive distracting thing behind it it's more of a subtle thing that's behind it so I also will use the straight line ones to kind of outline a camera frame if that's something I want to do the ad really subtle movement if you make them small enough to add a camera frame around you or something like that but not be too distracting so the waveform is something that I use all the time on all my streams and I absolutely love it it's super simple to set up and use now there is a bonus one that I want to mention that makes creating video content for shorts and Tick Tock really easy the last one that I want to show you is the atem vertical and this one is a little different as well you click go to download you've got it right here you have your platforms and you just click here and it will download it for you right there now once you install it when you go into docks you're going to see there are all kinds of vertical docs here so we've got vertical scenes we've got vertical sources which we'll just place right here next to scenes we've got our vertical scene transitions and then the last dock is the actual vertical camera right here move this over here and there we go and it basically is like running a second OBS at the same time so you've got this this Transitions and everything for your vertical scenes you've got your vertical scenes and your vertical sources you can open up the settings right here and you have your resolution and your bit rate and all that sort of stuff you can actually set it up for streaming or recording so what vertical allows you to do is set up scenes and duplicate basically what you get on your main scene right here in vertical so that you can live stream to both formats at the exact same time so we can just rename this to main vert and then we can just go over here to sources and you're going to notice that all the same sources are going to be in here so I have my video capture device if I go to a video capture device I can just select it and then what I can do is just format it in a way that's going to be good for vertical viewing so then we could go on to another scene like this one right here and I could create this scene in here as well we can call this tutorial vert and click OK and then in the sources what I can do is I can add our display capture that we already have and then I can add our camera that we already have and then I just organize those the same way so we'll make this bigger put it more in the center like that and then we can just move this camera in there like that so we get basically the same view and then what we can do is we can link these so that they will function at the same time so I can go and select this and I can go to link and I can link it to Main [Music] and then I can go here and I can right click and I can link and I can go to our tutorial so now when I switch scenes you see it switches on both and what this does is it gives you the ability to actually record by going in here and setting up your recording information or your streaming information so that you can record to both at the same time or just to divert so that you you can create easy Tick Tock videos and stuff like that or you can live stream from here to any of the vertical formats like Instagram Tick Tock that sort of stuff really easily so that you can live stream both in full like our Center one here and then of course like that one right there which is vertical so this is an amazing tool that makes it so darn easy to set this up and Link it and you can have your stream and eat it too I suppose so what do you guys think did I miss a plug-in that you use all the time let me know down in
