#491 Arguing about a Tarp Charge The Life of an Owner Operator Flatbed Truck Driver

i'm not in the best of moods i took this load this load's supposed to be four foot tarps it's eight foot tarps we'll go out and take a look at it or you've probably already seen it and uh the agent kind of wanted to argue with me over tarp charge [Music] so [Music] [Music] all right we're over here in albuquerque we got loaded up and uh i'm not in the best of moods i took this load this load is supposed to be four foot tarps it's eight foot tarps we'll go out take a look at or you probably already seen it and uh the agent kind of wanted to argue with me over tarp charge and it's not that i was looking for a lot of money it's i want the fact that the agent put four foot tarps in there and it calls for eight foot tarps and somebody owes me because i accepted the load to do four foot tarps and i know i'm kind of complaining a lot but oh so anyway all right so this is what we got something to do with solar panels um the other thing i had them do is they had these things up in the front up here and i wanted a flat front to put tarps on so uh and then we ended up with the flat in the back there very heavy it says it's 45 000. i actually think it might be a little bit more so what i'm going to do is i'm going to put the tarps out and then you'll notice in the back here only got one strap once you get the tarp on i'm going to put a strap over the back there to hold the back of that tarp down and same thing over here in the front so we'll get plenty of padding put over this metal right there and i have to get out my ladder because i got to crawl up there and where we loaded is down that street there and uh i guess we got there in time could see all those trucks and down there they're waiting to unload but uh they uh they didn't want me to tarp on their property so they kicked me out here in the street that's another reason i'm kind of irritated uh while i'm on a little ramp let's get back in the truck so people ask me why i don't load so much or come out west especially the southwest we're in albuquerque uh this this does not pay very good uh i took this load just to get back east and most of the loads i take out of the west are just to get back east i make a little bit of money off them but nothing like i do back in the midwest or ohio in that area example this load is going to tennessee the load i'm picking up out of tennessee going down to florida pays a dollar 30 more a mile than this load right here so uh you can see why i like to stay back east and then i come out here this agent and i won't call them out but this agent i've dealt with this agent before and uh anyway i uh i don't call them out too much let me get this tarp uh and then uh we'll make it look pretty we're gonna go wash the old dorsey trailer today too so uh truck and trailer we're gonna try to get over to amarillo but let me get this tarp and talk to you a bit all right we got uh tarped up and we got done just in time you guys can see the wind picking up so uh yeah i guess we got kind of lucky there let me step back a little bit without getting run over so you can see this stuff up here is kind of ugly right here and the little two inch straps are more to hold the tarp down from flopping around and uh didn't actually anything and i did manage to do it without getting run over so i'm going to walk around back real quick so it did come out kind of nice i'll go down this side here all right let's get out of here um i'm gonna try to get to amarillo friday we'll get to amarillo get the truck wash get everything cleaned up oh here hang on real quick remember i said i lost the screws there i bought some uh stainless steel screws to put in there so that was one of my little projects i did too all right let's get to amarillo and we'll get the truck washed talk to you in a bit all right this load here is uh kicking my butt a little bit the whole tarp thing got me off on the wrong foot i need better vibes better positive vibes i tore up a strap one of my two inch straps broke i got padding on the top of that stuff but it must have rubbed through i broke on the interstate i had to pull on the shoulder i was dragging the buckles in the side box i do not like stopping on the shoulder interstate so i grabbed it as quick as i could and got off the interstate i've parked here before it's a little dirt lot we're still in new mexico it's like an old abandoned gas station there's an old i don't call it a dopey house there red brick house straight ahead and the wind outside we'll go out here the wind outside is still is pretty bad i have been fighting the wind all day i don't know if you guys can hear the wind or not so i had that two-inch strap right there and apparently it rubbed through which means there's probably a hole in the tarpon tire somewhere this is the problem is this thing right here everything else is holding good so far so far but uh yeah i've camped out here before let's say uh we're gonna go on a little walk here hound so so there's the abandoned gas station i'm not even gonna go near that building i have no idea fuel tanks that's i-40 over there that's west but the wind out here is unbelievable truck been fighting the wind all i want to do is get the amarillo get the truck washed maybe i'll feel better get the truck washed but so i'm gonna get another two inch strap see what i can do that hole was already there see what i can do to tighten it up so what happens if i if i don't tighten this up that thing just sits there it flaps on the wind and it will tear itself up so let me do that all right i think i might have it this is the other half of that strap that broke ah so i have used every long strap i have two inch four inch so what i ended up doing see i put that two at four inch right there pull that down tight put that one there pull that down tight and then i went ahead and put the uh two inches on there but see i i put padding all across the top up there so uh it's all it's all padded but let's see so we'll count all my long straps one two three four five six seven 8 9 10 11 12 13 14 15 16 17 18 19 20 21 22 23 23 long straps that i got up there so as you can tell it is still super windy out here uh i was looking at the weather if you guys can hear me i was looking at the weather and it is supposed to be raining in amarillo so i'm not too sure what i'm going to do if it gets a good rain i don't mind riding in the rain that'll help wash some of that old salt water and everything off from underneath the truck but i do need to get the old dorsey trailer washed plus my truck all right we'll try this again all right this is what it sounds like all right it's the end of the day or we're parked i uh i didn't stop at amarillo here i'm gonna turn you around here that light's really bright as you guys can see it's like foggy outside foggy rainy we're uh we're at a rest area in allen reed texas it's a nice big rest there got lots of parking hang on make sure you're looking at me oh they got lots of parking oh uh it's supposed to rain all day tomorrow saturday so we'll get to truck wash somewhere i wanted to get the dorsey trailer washed today's video is gonna try to get in little rock arkansas so that's what i'm going to try to do tomorrow and then from there we've got about 375 over to tennessee where we got to go so anyway hoping tomorrow starts off a little better i'm not so stressed out i know you guys i don't i don't complain very often but yesterday or today really uh got on my nerves with this load so anyway all right i will talk to you
