Hello everyone and welcome to the X3M TIG channel so for  today's video guys I'm working on a 42 inch   pipe it's a P grade or a chrome  chrome 5 , 42-inch custom-made piece   ID or inside diameter is a 42 inches it's a one  inch thickness so right now the guys are working   on the marking, we have to shave it down as a  machine it's not gonna fit here for beveling   so we have to transition pipe from the  outside as you can see here we marked half inch   so the bevel has a thickness of original pipe that  we are replacing is a half inch wall thickness   and this pipe is one inch so we have  to transition from the from the outside this is the guys who're working on it the  everything they're doing by hand and on the   other side of that spool there's the guys   they're doing with they're doing Machining   so what they do they shaving for the bevel  but they also have to transition to the original   piece only one inch a half-inch thick as I  said this one is a one-inch so we have to have   that smooth transition outside so we can we  can weld the bevel is gonna be original half inch   as you can see here so the bevel is going to be  half inch and now we got a transition from the   from the outside, it's a big work the guy  spent like two-three days both shifts day   and nights grinding that uh make it nice and  smooth as you can see here it's a really big job well that's what the pipefitters do guys did a really good job kudos to them  yeah you can see on this side Machining is   done this is how it looks like uh still  gotta be smoothed out uh with a flapper disc   it's uh just uh from that Machining  just a little bit rough from the outside so they're gonna feel but this is the old idea  as you can see how it looks like as I said this   is a custom-made piece okay now for the  purging setup this is custom-made balloons   only for this for this joint they  were shipped from England 42 inch when they   inflate as you can see here the bottom part  around six hoses six argon hoses that are   going underneath that connects to the basically  we're rolling a 90 that goes up on the Riser   that's the piss uh that was cut out and it has to  be replaced everything is custom made pretty much so for the machine, it's a 350 xmt field Pro just gotta get remote connected up up in  a hoarding and this is our bottle rack   with all six Purge hoses we got  inside this pool uh set up for 68.   uh between shifts uh they were purging like  uh for a couple hours on uh on a 20 liters   per minute we just uh Crank It Up on a 60  before welding and that's it as you can   see here we got Chiclets on the both sides  uh they're preheating the 350 Fahrenheit   uh temperature they have to maintain  all that uh temperature prior to welding   Fed Up is good day shift did the fit up uh  we got to maintain a 650 Max for uh interpass   if it goes up more than 650 then you have to  wait to cool down I'm gonna use my new pipeliner   just a little bit show off guys a beautiful  helmet I love it a bit of darkening out the lens   and as usual 150 Mickey Mouse tools on a big  jobs like this and this is our creature remote this is one of the best Millers uh  inventions I really like it we got   that sensor ground that connects to the work  piece or I just Clump It To The Ground clamp   so it starts uh reading and you can set up the  amperage it's really handy it's close to you and   you don't have to run extra cable just connects  to the one of your leads okay this is for the   feet up as I said they shifted fit up it's like  a loose one eight I prefer have it a little bit   better a bigger Gap like 532 will be ideal but uh  it is what it is okay I check with the purge uh purchase running good so we got one uh balloon or  the bottom one on the top and uh as it'll show you   in beginning there's a six argon hoses they're  running inside and venting out there's also vent   on the top one of the balloon went size of a argon  holds but it's also good habit just to drill a   couple holes around your joints that just went  out uh that extra and also reduce the pressure   if you start welding as you can see here the if  your pressure is too high when you start welding   and then the pressure might start pushing your  paddle out uh but the other issue we got here is   uh the pipe is magnetized not that much but still  there is some uh as in it's very Storm still uh   magnetism inside and uh there's a couple tricks  to get rid of it uh if it's not that much uh just   simply start welding otherwise you gotta wrap the  coil as the top of the bottom of the joint and uh   that also helps or reduce the magnetism so you  can start welding but basically when you start   welding uh just the heat itself uh just move  that magnetism out of that pipe usually the   magnetism is was caused originally I think by the  Machining as you can see shavings on the bottom they're like standing up on that bottom side of  the bevel that's how you know it's magnetized as I show you here 140 for the root pass  the idea is just to weld in between tax   as we still got some dogs on it uh that was for  the for the high low for the fit up there's some   shackles still uh hanging on just to keep this  plate uh spoiler secured until the root is done so this is the old idea just well between  tags when the route is done then cut out the   tax remove all those dogs clean the pipe tape it  again let it Purge for a half an hour and then uh   finish route and then we can start doing a the  hot pass but first on the route uh it's a kind of so this is a closure well procedure or when the   route passes is done they have  to do empty or a magnet test to see for any any cracks that is procedure that's that's why  we got the Chiclets they keep that   heat they keep that temperature so we can weld okay as you can see here there's  a there's lots of obstacles   as I said before we use dogs for a lineup fix the high law especially  on a big pipes like this I'm just pretty much kind of keeping that right in  the puddle uh pushing inside it so I'm using 140.   so the amperage uh can push that paddle in  you you have to move a little bit faster uh   you don't want to pause you don't want to  slow down as you might open that Bell wall The Purge is still good as I said we're  just gonna weld in between attacks   but it's still running running good as I said uh ideal for me I prefer to have a  little bit bigger Gap especially on this size   as the Gap shrink like on any  pipe 532 will be ideal for this I change techniques uh there's a layer wire or dipping it  all depends uh depends uh from the gap as you can see here I'm just uh  keeping on the side that on the edge   almost like 50 50. 50 Rod it's uh on the edge  of that Bell and that's why I'm using 140 just   to push that uh push the puddle inside the good  strong perch is gonna keep that nice and uniform   okay the welding is done now between the  attacks and now we're gonna cut out the   tax and I'm gonna put a aluminum foil back around   drill a couple holes and just uh let it  live uh for a purge maybe next half an hour so we grind everything all the marks dogs  they were on that pipe all tucks are cut out   we grind all stop starts as you can see here The Purge  is still set up on uh 60 liters that should be good and uh as I said half an  hour now this is a deal just to preheat the   stop start I'm just gonna hold that Rod inside  if it's a little bit bigger Gap I like to keep   my rod inside inside the bevel inside on the edge  just a dip of my tongues in here a little bit uh   it's not a big deal it's still sharp enough to  melt that puddle to keep the to keep welding as long as you don't dip too much or just break  tip of your tongues and then you have to stop and   grind that spot you want to grind that out and I'm  going to this connection right here for this tie   in you want to slow down pause here melt bottom  melt up adding wire same time that is needed just   uh you just you just have to keep reading your  puddle you have to keep watching what's going on   as I said I'm running 140. so you  don't want a slow uh or pause too much   and that's it now the route is done pretty  much I'm just gonna I run the grinder just   in case because I did dip tungsten  couple a couple times in couple spots   uh this is uh just uh left a little window  for QC so he can check out the route   as I said this is a closure procedure that's  what usually it's on a closer procedure   that much you can see from here but you can  see uh sunspots are good spots a little bit hot but that should be good enough okay now we'll  reduce the purge so we can close uh our windows   I got one video on one side uh my partner he's he  got a second window on his side we'll lower down   the purge pressure up to 20 liters per minute  just enough to to have a nice good closure   so the pressure if you leave that pressure  it might just push out on the ties and now   pretty much the pipe is closed all the way around  the root so the pressure buildup IS even higher   that's why it's a good habit just to reduce the  pressure 15-20 liters that should be good enough   I'm just uh pretty much holding  wires all the time in the bottle   and for the time top bottom as I said that Rod  is needed watch that battle read that puddle   and finish on the side you want a bevel and uh that's it and now the whole  root pass is done as I said the Muse   grinder just to run the grinding just  a little bit grinder all the way around   just uh for the NDT guys not destructive  testing so they can have a better picture   so they're going to do empty test here for the  root past to see for any cracks or or something   uh that's it root empty okay as you can  see here that's still left that red powder   he's gonna clean it out now we're going to  run a hot pass for hot pass I'm gonna go   160. uh 180 rod and just side to side side  to side motion and just uh nice and slow then I have to rush too much just uh just  stretch that puzzle you don't [ __ ] you keep   uh okay I keep that road uh on the top part a  little bit more just it's just a gravity thing and just stretch that puddle top to bottom as I said 160 here um who could even maybe go 180  but no need to rush as I said I want to go slow   have a nice good Fusion burn all those  uh not even spots you got on the side the hot pass uh gonna cover everything and that's  it for the cover pads for the hot pass sorry so hot passes down as I said you got a monitor  650 interpasses uh the area welding is getting   too hot you have to check that's uh my pipe  feeder he's uh checking that out for us while   we're welding so if it gets too hot then we have  to stop and wait for it cool down a little bit   I can also mess up readings for the  guys that they're doing uh Chiclets   and he he Trace uh the guys they're  doing a reading for uh for a hit they got a little trailer they're monitoring uh  what's going on with their uh Chiclets and now   we're going to run one more uh one more pass I'm  gonna go 180 it's going to be first pass to fail 180 uh switch to cup size 10.   I had the same thing uh holding that Rod up  on the top and stretching that paddle down that should be that should be good enough there is a procedure there is an option uh you can  take all the way that's pull or you can continue   on with the stick that's pretty much the end of  our shift we did 10 hours doing all this uh so far and uh probably the rest uh the fill and  the rest of the fill and the cap is going   to be on the on the next shift guys there's two  other good great welders they're working on is   so they're gonna finish uh this ball it's pretty much uh how it goes for that fill pass yes nice slow feeling that rod uh just uh  walking I pretty much walked the cup all   the way uh from Route uh Hut and Phil you  can do a free hand whatever it's easier for   you it doesn't really matter as long as it's  good I do the job and but that's all matters and that's it pretty much uh well  I hope you guys like it enjoy it   learn something new maybe in this video  for a setup or uh or something different   uh This Is How We Do It This Is How We Roll  it's a nice uh nice joint big joint I like big   joint I like big stuff uh lots of work keep  you busy all night and that that's perfect   as I said Thank you guys uh so far for all your  support and see you in the next one take care
