leave the knob and cover basically by settings cable the network as shown in the topology there are several switches routers and other devices on the shelf click and drag routers r1 and r2 and the gigabit tier 1 on s2 to gigabit 001 on r2 copper straight through from you gonna be zero one on s2 to gigabit zero zero one or r2 and finally copper straight through from gigabit zero zero zero on r2 to the fast internet interface on the laptop okay okay fast internet interface be careful with the connection these are the connections and visually inspect network connections initially when you notepad and assign a name to the device according the topology i'm configuring r1 so use that name and on the notepad hostname r1 disable dns lookup to prevent the router from attempting to translate terminal global configuration mode change change the name to s2 and copy paste handle okay configure settings for the server and the laptop now configure the server and laptop according the addressing table using static ip addresses start with the server and configure this click on the server desktop ipconfiguration 172 16 110 subnet mask 255 285 35 0 for that way 172 161 okay and click on the laptop close terminal ipconfiguration and configure this 192.168. one tank subnet mask 255 to 55 to 550 default gateway 182 681.11 now configure and verify single area ospf version 2 for basic operation configure interface addresses and basic ospf version 2 on each router router r1 and r2 connect a console cable between r1 and the laptop pay on s2 inspect rear then drag the console cable to r1 console and now you have the connection from laptop to r1 click on laptop open terminal okay you are on r1 configure interface addresses on each router okay on r1 and r2 start with r1 and configure remember area number zero enter and now configure a network statement for the other networks connected to r1 and r2 and place them in area zero okay and the another net or 182 168 1 0 wildcard area ascension r1 has an a4 and is r2 okay verify that ospf version 2 is operational between the routers issue the command to verify that r1 and r2 have format and adjacency okay click end use this command router which is the bdr backup designated router what was the selection criteria in my case r2 was configured first and was speaking ospf before r1 so during the ospf election only r2 was configured for ospf and became the dr designated router after r1 was configured for ospf it became the bdr backup designated router anyway the router with the highest router id is used in the selection of dr mbdr designated router and backup designated router okay click on laptop you are on r2 in my case r1 r1 is the backup designated router and r2 is the designated router another view another way to build this is using show ap ospf interface space space and gigabit zero zero one on r2 okay r2 of r2 gigabit zero zero one r2 gigabit z01 this is uh the designated router is router r2 and backup designated router is router r1 okay in my case because i just configured our two fields if you configure r1 fields r1 will be the designated router on r1 issue show ip root ospf to verify that r2 gigabit 00 network is present in the routing table okay on r1 change the console to r1 now the laptop is connected to r1 close terminal open again okay show ip root or spf and now you can see the ospf route to the network of the latto and also r2 will have an ospf route for the network of the web server okay and from laptop command prompt being the web server okay click the laptop close terminal open command prompt pick the ip address of the web server so ping from laptop to web server to verify connectivity 172 16 110 success very good optimize the single area ospf version 2 configuration implement various optimizations on each router r1 configure interface with 001 or spf priority to 50 to ensure that r1 is the designated router remember in my case r2 is the designated router if in your case r1 is the designated router don't worry configure anyway r1 with priority 50 on the interface gigabit zero zero one to ensure r1 is a designated router okay and the laptop is connected to the router r1 click on the laptop close command prompt open terminal okay and press enter the password is cisco enter enable the enable password is class okay configure terminal on this interface the interface that connects to r2 gigabit zero zero one interface with zero zero one enter and ipo ospf priority 50. by default the priority is one you change it to 50. okay exit okay if you want to verify the r1 is the designated router you need to reload r1 and r2 or shut down gigabit 001 on r2 okay and configure the ospf timers on interfacing with 001 of each router for a hello timer of 30 seconds and at that timer of 120 seconds okay configure on r1 gigabit 001 the instruction is specifying on gigabit 001 because it's the interface that connects to r2 click laptop is connected to r1 and and you can verify the the default configuration using show ip ospf interface enter and now you can see on youtube zero zero one the the priority the priority was changed to 50 but by default is one and the hello interval by default is 10 seconds and that interval by default is 40 seconds you will change the hello to 3d and that to 120 configure terminal interface here with 001 ip ospf hello dash interval 3d and that interval to 120 exit okay and wait a moment okay and now you can see this the that timer expired now the network is down because r1 is configured different than r2 so now configure gigabit 001 or r2 with the same configuration as r1 okay so change the console from r1 to r2 now laptop is connected to r2 and close the terminal open again okay enter password is cisco enable class configure terminal interface with zero zero one apospf hello interval 3d and that interval 120 exit okay and wait a moment wait a moment and now you can see the neighbor adjacency so r2 has an a4 and is r1 very nice on r1 remove the ospf network command for 172.16.10 okay access to r1 again change the console from r2 to r1 okay laptop is connected to r1 close terminal open again okay enter and [Music] show running config and remove this network on ospf process 56 remove this network 172 0 on area 0 ok remove this and configure terminal router os ospf 56 no network 172 16 1 0 wild card and areas here okay remove the network okay exit global configuration mode and then configure a default static route that uses interface with zero zero zero as the exit interface okay and on r1 create a default static route with the exit interface you go with zero zero so now the this segment the network of web server is not part of ospf but you will create a study route to reach this network okay and ip root default static root quad zero the exit interface gigabit zero zero zero okay the file root without gateway if not uh point-to-point interface may impact the performance okay this is a point point connection so don't worry and finally propagate the default route into ospf okay access router ospf 56 and default dash information space originate enter exit so now you will propagate the default static route on r1 and you will propagate this default static route from r1 to r2 and to test this click on the laptop close terminal open command prompt and still you will be able to pin the web server being 172 16 110 success so the propagation is working very good now change the reference bandwidth on each router to one gigabit per second okay the default configuration is 100. the autocost reference bandwide on ospf by default is 100. 100 means 100 million and when you compare 100 million with a gigabit interface this operation will result in 0.1 and for ospf calculation this will be one and when you compare 100 million with a faster net interface the calculation will be one so this is not good because the cost of a gigabit interface is the same of the cost of faster net interface so it's better to change and the auto cost reference bandwidth to 1000 that means 1 000 million and when you compare 1000 million with a gigabit interface the result is one and when you compare one thousand million with a fast ethernet interface the result is time so the costs the costs are different and this is very good for ospf so change the reference bandwidth to 1000 okay and click on okay you are connected to r1 click on the laptop close command prompt open terminal okay access again to router ospf 56 auto dash cost space reference dash bandwide 1000 enter okay ensure reference bandwidth is consistent across all routers okay exit and configure also r2 change the console from r1 from r1 change the console to r2 okay go to laptop close terminal open again router or os pf56 auto cost reference bandwidth 1000 okay exit after this configuration restart ospf using the clear ip ospf process okay on r2 exit clear ipo spf process enter yes enter and the same process on r1 change the console to r1 now laptop is connected to r1 close terminal open again now you are on r1 and [Music] clear ip or spf process yes okay we're good verify ospf version 2 optimizations and show ipo spf interface you can be 001 on r1 and verify the priority is set to 50 time intervals are hello theory and that 120 and the default network type is broadcast okay go to laptop enter you are on r1 show ipo spf interface you go with 001 enter okay priority 50 [Music] now this is the designated router is the dr okay the designated router is r1 and the backup designated router is r2 okay very nice and priority 50 hello interval theory that interval 120 and the network type is broadcast and for a gigabit interface the cost is one show ip root ospf and to verify that the r2 gigabit zero zero network is present in the routing table show ipro ospf okay and 182.168.10 is present this network is the network of the laptop the network of gigabit zero zero r2 okay very good now the difference in the metric between this output and the previous output okay look at the this is the administrative distance of ospf 110 but this is the metric 11 okay the cost is 11 because it's one plus tank one the gigabit cost for a gigabit interface the cost is one the connection between r1 and r2 the cost is 1 and the connection from r2 to the laptop the cost is 10 because the laptop has a fast internet interface and the gigabit zero zero zero interface on r2 will run to the lower to the lower speed will run to faster net interface okay so the cost in the segment between r1 and r2 is one and the cost in the segment of the laptop is 10 so that's why the metric is eleven one plus ten okay previously the metric was two because uh previously the link between r1 and r2 with cost 1 and the link of the laptop also with cost 1 but now the metric now is different because you changed the autocaust reference bandwidth from 100 to 1000 okay on r2 show iproot ospf command change the console to r2 close terminal open again okay enter show ip ospf show iproot ospf the only ospf root information should be the default route that r1 is propagating okay only show ap root so r1 is not propagating the default root and this ospf network was removed on r1 so this should disappear okay and i recommend to reload both routers but previously save changes copy running config to start config convert2 enter enter reloads change the console to r1 and close terminal open a enter you are on r1 copy running office to startup config reload great wait a moment okay change the console to r2 okay laptop is connected to console of r2 close terminal open again enter password cisco enable password class okay wait for the next word adiosency wait a moment okay wait a moment okay this is the nice word adiosency enter and show iproot or spf and now you can see this this route ospf default external type 2 is the default study route propagated by r1 or show ip root to directly connected networks and only one ospf ospf the asterisk is candidate for default route e2 e2 ospf external type 2 okay very nice from the laptop in the web server again and close the [Music] close the terminal command prompt ping the server again ping to 172 16 110 from laptop to server success okay compare the following two routes from r1 and from r2 why is the ospf cause for the default rule different than the ospf cost at r1 for the 180 168 1 0 prefix 24 network okay the metric for for the [Music] ospf route is the metric is 11 but on r2 the metric is 1. so the answer is a default study route imported into ospf is given the metric type of e2 or external type 2 by default and e2 by default keeps the same ospf cost across the entire ospf network in this case the metric for the default route was one so it has a metric of one everywhere within the ospf 56 network the 182.168.1024 network is an internal ospf route with a metric that is cumulative a completion 100 thank you very much you
