hey greetings youtubers on this beautiful June evening and I love Springs nice and warm out here and one thing I love about spring is yard sales this video is going to be a little bit different okay would look this troy-bilt push mower and it is powered by Hyundai has a little Honda motor on it and I've never owned a Honda motor on a troy-bilt before but hey whatever I guess you never know what you're going to make these days and sell you the beauty here is on this one is I picked this up at a yard sale for a whopping check this out kids ten dollars get love yard sales now she said it used to run better quit and they could not get it started so I decided to give her ten bucks bring it home and I'm going to make this baby run and it's going to be mine these things cost about $250 for right there.i so I figure for ten dollars I didn't go wrong and like I said it will not start I pulled it pulled it and it just won't do anything so we're going to check a few things here and see if we can get it running and if you have a mower issue maybe this will help you out a little bit too I've worked on all kind of engines and sometimes they work out pretty good if you just kind of go over the engine and do a little tinkering do some process of elimination check some things and typically you can find what's wrong with it and here is the back of it has a grass catcher bag which is pretty nice and on this side it has employ it has a mulching blade order and right here it has a little chute you can flip up and I usually take a wire through a little hole in this put me hook on there and just leave this up and it'll throw the grass out so let's get to it let's see if we can get this thing running alright let's start off now when I did purchase is saying the lady said they did bang in something here and they kind of bent his valve cover a little bit of it was pushed in so I took this off straighten this out put it back on and I thought well maybe it'll run well that really didn't do anything it still won't start but I had to pull this off anyway just straighten us out and I did check the vowels the valves are working and I do have compression because when I had the spark plug out I can turn the blade a little bit and I can feel it go that compression like so I know this is going to be okay here so we'll go ahead and start checking some other things all right first thing we're going to do is get this big strap off of here I'm not sure why they had this on here maybe they wanted to leave the setting a certain way but why go through that so that's off and now we'll go ahead and we'll check some things here all right we'll go ahead and check for fuel and yes I see you oh look like about a half a tank so we're good there then check the shutoff valve all right here's a shutoff valve and that's in the off position and it is on and one thing I noticed right away this thing is really difficult to turn they should not be that hard to turn we'll check that out here a little bit later we have to take it apart see if it's actually working all right we'll check this air cleaner and see if it's plugged up or anything well looks like someone's put a new where well the air cleaner is not too bad a little dusty but I don't see anything that's bad or clogged up so just back on we'll check a couple of other things keep on going here all right check the oil although it won't have anything to do with the starting but it's always good to check the oil and it's pretty dirty and what else it definitely put a quarter in it probably only hold about a quart so a whirl okay there a little oil in it actually it says right here eighteen point five ounces 10w30 oil oh and by the way this does have a heat shield here for this muffler it's right here just like that I took it off earlier in order to have access to pop this valve cover off straightener and the muffler it's in pretty good shape like I've never heard of run hopefully it runs but if it doesn't run I don't think I went wrong for $10 good for parts all right check a couple other things here all right we'll pull the plug out see what we got here kono that's right cuz spark plug socket okay just out of here oh well that's in there when I stand up you can tell a lot by a spark plug if you know anything about spark plugs just by looking at it you can usually tell if it's a burning oil burning normally or not running at all through years and years of experience fellow threads on it there we go and after our plug and I don't smell any gas but I see a little oil looks like there and the plug has got a decent gap in it the gap looks pretty good I'll have to measure the gap but that looks fine so now what we're going to do is probably the most important thing we're going to check for spark all right so we're going to do spark cast although a lot of times when you're by yourself is pretty impossible when I one thing I can recommend is you get a big mirror set it in front of lawn mower and you can check that way or simply push a mower into a dark place set your spark plug like this on your wire and kind of just let it touch the metal a little bit now since I have a video camera I'm going to zoom in a little bit and I'm going to pull that handle and we're going to see if we get a spark and the way I am going to check for spark is I'm going to come back and review this video and we'll talk about that so let me go over and pull this string a couple times okay now since I couldn't see that I wanna stop the video and go back and look and see what we got well that's encouraging now I'm back to the video and I have really good spark so that is a good thing so for now we'll go ahead and stick this spark plug back in here and you always want to do this with your fingers or a socket when it's with that just don't do it with your ratchet just still jam it in there so our current cuz you can strip the threads we'll tighten this down and that's a good thing so I know a lot of times when you won't check for spark on a push mower you can't see the spark plug and this wires not long enough to put it where you can see it but like I said you can use a mirror put the mirror in front a lawnmower or just use a video camera like that hood and go back and review it silhouett tighten this up and now what we're going to do I'm going to go ahead and get some starting fluid I'm going to shoot some starter fluid in this carburetor and see if it even does neat things let me go ahead and tighten this up quick alright alright our plug is tight now one of the thing I didn't talk about we do have spark and something that's pretty important I do know the brake here and the kill switch is working that's what this handle does so by having spark apart I know by releasing this it should kill the engine and I'll verify this I do get a running so this tells me that this is working sometimes if this is Chloe broken you won't be able to pull the string to start the push bar because it'll be very difficult to turn and usually you can tell right away that this might be a problem so another kill switch is okay and we do have sparks so the only other thing we can look at here is I'm hoping it's not a timing issue maybe a gear broke inside this engine that's when I check the oil I don't see any metal now I could do a boil analysis I could drain the entire contents of the oil out and look at it that if it doesn't start and I can't get around then I might do that to see if I have any metal in the oil and perhaps something inside this engine has broken and it's causing the issue so what we're going to do now is the only thing left is to go over here and check the fuel I'll just spark and we got compression so it could be a fuel issue so let me go ahead and set the camera for a little bit better pretty good and we're going to take this guy ear off and we're going to shoot some carburetor cleaner in here well actually it's a starting fluid and see if this does the trick oops I didn't mean to hit the camera there we go and we'll pull the strings if anything happens like I've never heard this thing run little dusting of it check out well ahead and crank this up and see if it does anything we'll pull the string well about that I'll be dang on that supper started don't believe it actually going to run students again now I got the choke it has a choke I'm gonna leave about now pretty much Oakland cuz it's about 85 out here and we all know you close the choke when engines cold in or if it's really cold out let's try this one more time well there we go folks I think we found our issue it is a fuel issue something here is not letting that fuel get into the carburetor so this makes me really really happy so come on when pull the fuel line off and check this shutoff valve and see if it's broken or something is restricting the fuel flow alright so we're going to check this feel and I know this line here coming out of the gas tank will have fuel in it so I will have to pinch it off or do something with it here in a second and get this off real quick oops there we go so to prove my point you can see fuel leaking out so get in here like that we're now out of the way easier and said and done sometimes alright now we've got a second one right here that comes down and we'll pull this off real quick and [Music] [Applause] all right there it is it's all this goes to the carburetor there's a little line right here so now what I'm going to do is just kind of hook the big line back up here and I'll see if there's any fuel coming through that off now make sure it's not plugged up or anything okay we got feels fuel is coming through there so that's good so apparently we've got something in the carburetor here maybe the float Bowl or something is stuck and it's causing an issue so I'm going to shut this off make sure this works turned out like that hook this back up and yes my shutoff valve works I think you can see that if I turn this you can see the fuel coming back out down there so so that's good I'm not so good start here we'll hook this back up real quick and we'll look at that carburetor and we'll see if there's a problem somewhere with the float in the bowl all right we'll go ahead and pop this cleaner cover off I don't know if you can hear that hear that mower someone three down three blocks down the road here full blast they don't know how to run a lawnmower that's ridiculous sound like it's ready to blow up full throttle you don't have to do that folks sharpen your blade half throttle and it'll cut perfect I don't care how high your grass is well up to maybe eight inches we'll take all these bolts out [Applause] I'm waiting for a ride to go through that push mower take this out away or the short one goes right there my finger is should probably turn the camera just a little more all right air cleaner hose off right here pop that out of the way and here's our carburetor or float and all that good stuff so we'll just go ahead and disconnect that real quick I [Applause] think I'm still recording let me check real quick yeah I think so okay I'm gonna take this racket off because this will make it easier to get that flow so off and all that and this one's got a pretty long bolt and set that off right here and we'll just simply unhook this spring and a little float wire here throttle go it's off there at all and that's off and pull this awful quick give a plier suggested right there we go think you can still see this pull this off and there's our carburetor and our float Bowl so let's go ahead and scratch this guy here before we inspect it there's the gasket and it's in good shape that is bolted to the head there so we're okay so go ahead now and look at this guy here in greater detail alright we'll go ahead and pull this bowl apart and a little bit of a sticky gluey kind of a gasket here so be careful with that if you want to keep it there and get back down like that and you just got to check things alright let's go ahead and pull this bowl bottom off and we'll see what looks like on the inside see a lot of time for these floats they get holes in them and they end up leaking and a sink and they don't well fuel in I'm going to take this off screw there off and take this one off here got off all right and now what get this off no and want to crap in there well if you can see that or not but there's a lot of dirt nursing stuff there that came out when I turned it sideways and see if there's any gas in this plastic bowl make sure it's not plugged up take our little pin out get off the side and there's the little needle right there to control the flow the fuel don't lose it and we'll shake it and there's no there is no fuel inside of it so I know this is okay so probably it's just dirt and you can see the seal here is in good shape and the bottom the bowl looks good so we'll just go ahead and clean everything up and put it back together and see if we can eventually get it started back up really don't see anything here wrong and pretty simple to put back together so we'll go ahead and assemble this real quick put the float back in with a little guy here we'll get this just right there we go like that and put the pin back in all that like this and we'll stick this all back together pretty simple to do if you take it apart just make a note so you know how it goes back together alright now we've got this back together here and I got my finger right here so the pendulum out now there's one thing you can do you can blow right here and blow through this as you're blowing through it if you push up on the float like this you should not be able to blow into this tube this is where the fuel comes in when this drops down this allows fuel into the bowl and it gets fed into the engine but I just blew through there and this seems to be okay and now we just go ahead assemble it back together and we'll try to start this up and see if we get it run all right well almost all back together a little tricky getting it together because you get a couple of gaskets you gotta line up a coin and I'm going to start to your little bolts with the other so it's a little tricky there last bolt in right here and it's getting kind of laid out here I don't know hopefully the video the light will show up okay should be all right and really all I have to do now just put my little fuel line up which is right here slide that back on under there and then go ahead and try start this alright kids let's all back together the only thing we can do now is go and put some starting fluid in it crank it and see what happened hopefully it'll stay running since I've cleaned out the fuel the fuel bowl and all that so let's put the fuel in it some starting fluid in it and see if it'll crank or run and I'll even choked about halfway so here goes let's see what happens all right so it doesn't want to stay a run and we know it'll run so we've got something here that's not letting the fuel get into the carburetor and into the bowl here so check the boat one more time well before that like a idiot I forgot to turn the fuel lon that's all yeah it's supposed to be on there so let's try this again we'll set the camera up over here who let that feel kind of straight into the bowl hey I'm not perfect you know I'm making a video here to help you guys out because we all need help sometimes sometimes I need help all right we prime the carburetor again [Applause] and that bowl will should be full of fuel analysis crank it's here oh it's so close all right well this is all I want to get tonight I love it it'll run a few circuits and stops what's getting late I'll just come in tomorrow take her with it but I know it'll run so I'm a pretty excited I will do some research and see what's going on with it probably I guess it's a fuel issue so we'll be back tomorrow and we'll check this guy out and see we get a running so we'll see you tomorrow all right folks it's a new day another morning out here and we'll go ahead and get this thing running today before it's too hot now I did go ahead and take the carburetor back off they did some research and I forgot about this little bead ring get in here and everything so I took this out and there it is it was clean and I went inside shot some carburetor cleaner through it and you can see it's nice and clean now it's a lot better than good yesterday and I took the float back out and a little metering needle and all that and I blew air through all these passages and I did blow air through here and now there is a little valve in here I could not get out in the center feel closely I think you almost see if I turn this carburetor sideways here probably not but it's got trust me it's down in there a lot of times they fall out but I couldn't get out so I did blow air through there and I can see kind of see through it so I know it's clean so really all I want to do now is go and put this back together and there are lots of tons of videos online on how to rebuild these carburetors on these lawnmowers and check this right here make sure there's not a play it up make sure there's no unmetered air going into the carburetor and as nice and tight their throttle and this one here nice and tight and we'll go ahead and stick this back together and hopefully we'll get it running here I don't have a gasket kit and I don't have any other kits for this so I want to try to reuse all the gaskets elder Otto so far they're in pretty good shape if I had a gas kit I would just rebuild this carburetor tuck the screw out blew air through the carburetor cleaner through it and seems to be pretty clean now so I don't see why I wouldn't start so we're going to put this together and we'll see if we can get it to start and like I said if you want to rebuild what these carburetors there are so many videos online on YouTube will kind of do it they're pretty simple to do alright so let's go ahead and get this thing back together see if it'll run all right so I'll get it all back together and we'll go ahead and prime this a little bit of fluid and we'll see if things go run so you never know we'll try it and see [Applause] Oh I don't believe it I actually fix this thing so Wow $10 yes and I got a for $10 I get about $250 push mower here so I'm going to put this air cleaner on what's going to Prime at this time and I'm just going just going to pull the string and we'll see what happens hopefully we'll start the first time well this is freakin awesome so looks like I got it running just by taking the carburetor apart and doing a little bit of cleaning so I love yard sales so I'm going to go ahead and clean this up today and let me give you a nice look at it here let me move my tools out of the way real quick we'll do it before and after a comparison okay here's what it looks like now what still kind of dirty and you can see it got some issues whole dirty got some paint missing on it and everything handles a little scuffed up offer on this side you look at it and you can see it's not the best-looking shape so let's go ahead and clean this up and take a look at it check that out look how nice it looks got it all cleaned up now check it out before I was pretty nasty a little bit of red paint pretty close matching there and some black paint spray paint on the garage it was only four dollars maybe with a paint but you can't beat that a $250 lawnmower for ten dollars and all I did was clean up the carburetor so it goes to show sometimes when you're out looking at yard fields sometimes these deals can be just too good to pass up and you get the handlebars the clean painted up wheels and all that now I did sharpen the blade and I will go ahead and change the oil after a while I even got the Honda sticker on top of the engine air which makes it look almost brand new so let me know what you guys think in the comments section below and happy hunting looks like I got a yard to mow
