22lr for self defense?

all right what's going on everyone so today we're gonna take a look at and see if a 22lr is reasonable for defensive round [Music] what you carry should be based off your own experiences in your own comfort level my video was not intended to tell you what you should and should not keep on your side and the reason I'm making this video is I've been seeing a lot of different posts I mean we've got this whole coronavirus thing going on right now and a lot of people are like what if you only have 22 things like that and I've been hearing some people say like oh I've known people that have been shot by a 22 and they literally just popped the pimp that bullet out like if it was a pimple things like that and which i think is a little a little crazy to think that that's really the case may be older 22s but now they they're coming out with a much higher velocity things like that so today we're gonna take a look at how well it does and I don't have like a professional setup where it's got like a little thing with a ribcage and stuff like that I just built my own little kind of ghetto test that we're gonna check it out with and we're not gonna be using the vector we're going to use my TX 22 to see if because it's got a four inch barrel and I wanted to keep a reasonable smallest smallest barrel so that I have four 22 so this will give us more realistic velocity as far as home defense goes in seed tests here basically I have a box inside of the box I've got a full shirt that I folded over several different times so it's a lot thicker than clothing it'll be more realistic towards like if somebody was wearing a jacket which typically if somebody breaks into a home it's usually night they normally have a jacket on so we got that then inside of the box I've got another box this one basically what will happen is the bullet has to go through the first box through the shirt through the second box and then bust the hot sauces that are in here now the way I see it this is much more than just going through a shirt in some skin to get into like you know mass target I would assume would be probably where you're gonna aim for I have watched videos 22 will go through ribs though cowl ribs socal ribs are much stronger than regular human ribs so basically we're gonna do a test like that and kind of see how it does and then I'm gonna go over some key points with shooting 22 compared to larger calibers now I will say I don't I don't carry a 20 to 1 meter carryin 9 but I did want to do this test because it is something that I have around the house and you know if someone would break in and I wasn't there and there was a 22 sitting around my wife picked that up out you know wanna know that she's safe and my family's safe so yeah we're gonna check this out see how it does also have an old crappy phone that imma be sticking on part of this too the reason I'm doing this is so I think the statistics were like 30 or 35 percent of shots shot by a law enforcement or actually only what hit so out of 100 percent only 30 35 hit so let's say realistically if you have a home intruder you might miss several your shots or you might shoot off target you know rushing not really aiming because you don't shoot it like large ranges you don't have time to sit there and make sure your hunter percent on so let's say you hit someone in the leg and they had a phone in the leg I want to see if I phone would actually stop the bullet just something I figure out throw into this little test alright so I got that set about 20 feet away which i think is roughly you know for a lot of homes that's about the firt of this you're really gonna come across somebody unless you step in your front yard which in different states that's uh that's actually illegal so inside of a home that's what I'm basing it off of I'm gonna do 20 feet just uh see how it does got the phone on the right and just the regular on the left so let's go ahead and see what happens first I'm gonna shoot just the side with the no phone and I'm gonna shoot the phone all right let's take a look and see what happened so I shot high but went through shot the phone and he completely went through the phone too so went through the phone and let's see so the first one that didn't shoot the phone it went completely through all the way through the hot sauce bottles and everything the one with the phone did stop so I wonder where it stopped that it's a good question so I've got pieces of phone inside of this that and it looks like it actually never the one that went through the phone never actually went through the all the way through I don't see the actual bullet in here though one that uh I shot through the box it went through it busted my little hot sauce bottle and actually went all the way through and came out the other side so I had some pretty good penetration I feel like that would uh that would definitely hurt somebody pretty bad if you shot them in the upper torso with that the one that I shot the phone with however went completely through the phone and then it stopped inside of the t-shirt it never actually went through and hit the hot sauce bottle so if you hit somebody with that though they're gonna have shards a phone inside of them so I mean I feel like that would uh that would definitely damper somebody's day that was trying to break in and or attack you how quickly you can get accurate shots with a 22 versus a larger caliber now some people are extremely accurate with their 45s and stuff like I'm not saying that they're not but for a lot of people their shots are gonna be like one have to adjust to have to adjust or they're just gonna go crazy with it you know someone like my wife or instead she's not gonna sit here in just 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 10 like with a 9 now with a 22 that might be different because there is hardly any recoil with it so I've got a little thing set down there and I'm just gonna draw and put his mini through the upper torso on that cut out as I can in a short period of time just kind of show you if you had an intruder you know I can get several inside of a group much faster than I could with a 9 so let's just go ahead and do that so you saw right there I shot at a ton of times that wasn't really aiming a ton let's go take a look so I was all over the place but I mean if this was a person though to hit them several times I mean that would hurt pretty bad so that being said with a 9 it probably would have been a lot more scattered because I'd have been jumping dramatically and I'd probably had shots they completely missed so another good thing about 22 is if if this what you have ammunition is much cheaper you can train with your 22 a lot more than you can train with say if you got a 45 or something like especially right now I mean it's hard to train with anything it's hard to find ammo but you wha you can afford to get a lot more training in with the 22 I mean I can buy its own a 22 ammo I can get a thousand rounds for I don't know normally not right now but normally it's like 25 30 bucks I can get a thousand rounds so there is some price advantages to it now the only thing I will say about it I'm not saying you should if you've got a higher caliber caliber I recommend you shooting a higher caliber stopping power wise yes it's going to put someone down a lot quicker and even fear wise if someone hears the 22 versus here's a larger you know shot now there are some statistics that I wanted to pull up let me find him here so based on 4,000 483 of actual street shootings one shot stops where they shot one time in the person stop was 31 percent of the time with 22 now that's about half as effective as it was with 32 acp now 465 shootings with CCI stingers 38 percent of the time was it a one stop like one shot stop so they shot a stinger one time that person just dropped on the floor there was some other stuff I don't think I screenshot it here but it was something about in reality it was like 75 percent of muggers were stopped like before even being shot just from having a firearm presented on them not not knowing the caliper or anything like that they stopped so if you put that statistic and then the 38 percent one bullet stopped that person I mean it's better than nothing a hundred percent now I think as long as you know you're accurate with and everything you could stop somebody I would most you know recommend just like anybody else probably would say train with 22 and then your main you know you definitely want to train with your carry gun and I would recommend at least getting like a 380 but I think it's 22 could do it if for some reason he picked up say I picked up my 9 and for some reason it just wouldn't chamber around or something just completely malfunction I was in a panic I think I would stop whoever it was intruded in my home with the 22 without any issues I'm fairly accurate with my 22 not based off that spray but I have shot and I've grouped them much smaller than then I can with my larger calibers now I'm not a good shot by any means and I will never claim to be but as far as drawing go with aiming getting it down range or towards like you know say somebody that broke into my home I could get a shot off pretty quick and hit my target now say I had shot through that phone into that with a longer barrel or using a CCI stinger now these are not stingers so these aren't even the potent 22 are based off statistics it's not the potent one but say I use the stinger there's a good chance it would have went and completely demolished through that phone and through the you know the hot sauce and everything that's my kind of ghetto test cutting down on how much I'm filming right now it's hard to come by and mow and everything like that I don't want to go to the range and take up all their ammo because a lot of people are buying that for you know better purposes than just me creating videos so that's what I got penetrates through there he shows you the ones that segments out and things like that to tell you how much power it's gonna have and how much you know tissue damage it's gonna cause and everything
