2020 250 Two Stroke Shootout - Dirt Bike Magazine

[Music] thank you [Music] uh welcome to dirt bike magazine's 250 cc two-stroke shootout where we have motorcycles from tm ktm husky and yamaha we're not here to choose the best motocross bike in the world that's been tried many times but the two-stroke versus four-stroke question will rage on for years this is a more straightforward shootout in the world of 250cc motocross two-strokes we're trying to find out who's at the top of the pecking order starting off with the yamaha the yz has weathered the years well it's always had a great motor and yamaha was smart to keep updating the suspension year after year that allows the bikes to go wheel to wheel with more modern bikes veteran riders will still love the yz250 even though its age is showing at the end of the day it's a little slower a little heavier and a little more dated than the others [Music] the tm-250 mxe is a little offbeat you have to learn its quirks if you rode nothing else than this motorcycle it would feel completely normal in outright performance the tm-250 mxe gives up nothing to any of the other bikes in this shootout with an electric start and high quality components [Applause] [Applause] as you might suspect the ktm is very similar to the husky in performance there are a handful of noticeable differences and the ktm is better suited for expert riders because of the hard-hitting engine and quick handling [Music] hmm like the ktm 250 sx the husky tc250 can be a little bit much to handle but in the hands of a expert or pro level rider the bike really excels it comes on strong it pulls hard the suspension can handle the speeds and it has the stopping power with the brembo brake system two-stroke purists will love this motorcycle [Applause] oh so now to what you've all been waiting for when two strokes overthrow the world this is what the pecking order will be fourth place the tm-250 mxe we're stunned by the overall workmanship of the tm we don't understand how a small company can battle ktm and yamaha to a standstill but it's still impressive in the end the tm remains a very offbeat motorcycle that was never intended for the masses it's a little bit heavier and a little bit more expensive than the other bikes in the group still if you're looking for an electric start two-stroke motocross bike it's the only place to go [Applause] wow third place the yamaha yz250 beware of anyone who doesn't like the yz250 this is a fun motorcycle without serious flaws time has caught up with it in outright performance but it's still a wonderful motorcycle the fact is that it's still here for us to test and enjoy almost 20 years after its initial design is a testimony to its quality and they are the only japanese manufacturer producing two-stroke 250cc motocross bikes um second place the ktm 250 sx the people aboard the ktm mothership know exactly what they are doing there's just enough difference between the ktm 250 sx and the husky tc250 to appeal to a different crowd the ktm is a little more aggressive making it the most likely to end up in the pro class the only reason that it finished behind the husky is because the slightly very slightly more conservative nature of the tc250 in 2019 the ktm 250 sx was the only two-stroke to qualify for an outdoor national that's huge first place the husky tc250 in a very cool circle of motocross life the original kings of motocross have returned to claim the throne the husky is very much a modern motorcycle the motor is up-to-date as anything in the four-stroke world it has the current features like a hydraulic clutch and counterbalancer it's crisp and smooth it's light and fast the husky has everything that the two-stroke faithful demand and enough outright performance to draw outsiders into the fold the entire dirt bike magazine staff had a great time doing this shootout and what we learned is the two-stroke motocross market is alive and well [Music] if you got a little bit more time and want to check out the individual videos of these 250 mx2 strokes click the video thumbnail now and don't forget to hit that subscribe button to stay up to date with all of our latest [Music] releases
