[Applause] this is Los Angeles the birthplace of modern Street skateboarding this is where it all began from the surfers surfing in Venice Beach to going into the schoolyards and riding the embankments every step of the way was based in Los Angeles Los Angeles has everything you need for Street skateboarding from the picnic tables the benches to the stairs ledges ditches the banks in the schoolyard to the handrails on Wilshire and downtown to the valley all these these aspects of modern skateboarding exist in this one landscape what more could you ask for everybody comes to LA with a dream whether it's for skateboarding or acting or making a movie or music I mean there's all these people come to this one specific place to live out their dream that energy that gravitates the world here is very inspirational and can help catapult careers beyond whatever your expectations could have been and so that's coming back to Los Angeles is such a significant statement because this is the heart of the skateboard industry the skateboarding has the opportunity to have this exposure and to bring these group of people together and to see them all push the limits of skateboarding in this one particular place for the world to see that's amazing [Applause] hello and welcome to Los Angeles California the mecca of skateboarding we're perfect weather all year long and legendary spots around every corner have been escape magnet for generations LA is ground zero for the best in skateboarding and today it's the site of the SLS World Tour we are live inside the Galen Center thanks so much for tuning in everyone I'm Paul zitzer alongside Chris Cole now we started the day with 28 of the world's best pros and we're now at the finals with the top eight these guys are all trying to stack points to the world championship at the end of the year and embark on the journey to the 2020 Tokyo Olympics so the stakes are going up higher and higher every time Chris now after the London Pro Open there was one name everybody was talking about the event winner Yuto hora go May and he's kept it going here today he really has Yuto showed how versatile he can be by taking those really tech tricks those really hard moves he did in London to win and doing them on massive handrails and bigger obstacles here it was extremely surprising but the guy that was not skating in London Nyjah Huston he was the one to beat if he were here and he is here and he is answering he is firing off tricks and absolutely doing an incredible job of looking like he's about to win this con he cruised through the finals and made it look so easy it was kind of scary now one other skater we have to mention the number one qualifier smoked both these guys it's Chris Joslin for more on him let's send it down to the third member of our crew Andrew cannon Chris you skated really really well qualifying in you came in a full point ahead of Nyjah what's your strategy moving into finals no strategy really a lot less pressure and a lot more fun now so you're you're not nervous about it no quite the opposite now it's more nerve-wracking like from the very beginning because you just don't know what's gonna happen now you know you're in the finals you know like the works that could happen from here is is already over you know you made finals from here do you have anything up your sleeve you're excited to bring out in the finals maybe some bigger smiles because like I said all the stresses off so I mean more so the same tricks I feel like maybe a couple different ones you know with the amount of people that are practicing at the same time I try to be really considerate so I don't practice too much you know like everyone's got to get it in so I'm like I don't I practice what I practice and got that for today so see out best of luck to you out there back to you guys welcome back inside the Galen Center where we are moments away from kicking off the final here LA world tour stop so what you're seeing right now it appears to be an injury Xion right suffered warming up for the final we're gonna take a quick break and we'll be back shortly with an update and to kick things off and welcome to the finals of the 2018 SLS a Los Angeles world tour coming to you from the Galen Center this is the finals we have the top seven skaters in the world right now about to drop in and kick things off we had one injury Zion Wright is out of the final and we are moments away from dropping in run number one but first let's talk about how this contest breaks down there are two sections to SLS the run section of best trick each skater gets two 45-second runs followed by five best-trick attempts anywhere on the course and the top four scores from each skater count regardless of sections [Applause] those are the basics and in May we kicked off the season in London with the Pro Open and a Utah ago May in the middle of your screen right there was the winner and we have a nice little package to look back at London Pro Open the Pro Open qualifier is always a proving ground for skaters trying to earn their way into SLS this year it went down in London the first SLS event ever held in the UK after 30 qualifiers battled it out the top seven advance to skate with the SLS pros and picks in the prelims four of those qualifiers survived the cut to the final along with four SLS pros in one of our most diverse finals yet with France Portugal Japan America and Brazil all being represented the final was intense with the 2015 world chip Kelvin Hoefler going head-to-head with last year's rookie Yuto hora go mate in the run section Yuto flowed the course like no other and turned it up a notch with back-to-back 9 Club runs in the best-trick section we saw a new leader after every attempt Felipe Gustavo and the qualifiers all helped their own until Yuto put down a sports score and sealed the deal with his first win when it was all said and done Vincent Malou and Trent McClure would be the top two qualifiers joining the 2018 SLS World Tour with the first stop going down in Los Angeles what an amazing event the Pro Open was Yuto just blew minds there and I think he's proving to be sort of the new generation of pros and we saw similar skating from Vincent Malou and just an update will give you more on Zions injury later on in the show as we learn more so let us get set to meet our skaters here in the finals tonight kicking things off it'll be the first skater in just squeezing into the cot Tommy Finn from Brisbane Australia this is his third year as an SLS pro he is looking for his first win best ever finish for Tommy Finn is the third place in new jersey 2016 he's looking for his first nine as well so it's all possible tonight for Tommy Finn absolutely skater number two fourth year SLS Pro and he is in fighting shape Felipe Gustavo from Brazil not just looking for his first win looking for his first podium that's a surprise it's a surprise cuz I'm shockingly he's so good and then you toher going that's right just one in London and has just been on its hair he can do everything every tribe and we've seen it we saw it in London we saw it in prelims we hope to see it continue here tonight through the final he's great I think we will I agree and your 2015 world champion also coming out of Brazil skating his sixth final in a row coming off a third place finished in London at the Pro Open Skies an unstoppable machine Kelvin Hoefler yep and then we got Manny Santiago the crowd favorite such a champ just pumping up the crowd as always he got into finals doing the odd ball Hail Mary tricks that got him there and I'm stoked to see him there and let's see what it can do absolutely and he's the veteran of the finals at 32 years of age and then this guy the winningest SLS skater of all time four-time world champ 2017 world champ 21 wins under his belt three wins last year alone Nyjah Huston Nyjah skating in his 38th final trial and then we got Chris Jocelyn our number one qualifier today it's all you gotta say he's smashed it at prelims absolutely killed it and I mean you see from the highlight reel what he can do but he just weeps and keep surprising us and he's never won an SLS that could change tonight I think that he's gonna have to change the mental game and then he obviously has the physical chops to do it here's your start list seven skaters Tommy Finn will be coming in first followed by Felipe Gustavo you tahor go man Kelvin Hoefler Manny Santiago Nyjah Huston and Chris Joslin and once again what an international field Australia Brazil Japan Puerto Rico hey Manny USA so Tommy Finn first skater in taking his first of two runs just squeezing in to the final so he has to go first and Chris Joslin will be skating last as the number one qualifier there are advantages to skating first because because you've just wound up record for I just have like a couple minutes of warm-up and you don't get to watch everybody else rush it and then have that pressure on your shoulder and then on the flip side the disadvantages the disadvantages is you don't get to watch everybody crush it so you can't adjust your game plan you're getting plan is just that I would say this about Tommy Finn he's gonna come in and do Tommy Finn's thing he's not gonna adjust it too much based on what's going on around him he's very strategic he knows what he's good at and he comes out and usually puts it down absolutely struggling a little bit here on run number one but like we always say you get two runs five best-trick attempts but only your four overall best scores cap that's right I mean he started okay so he's gonna get some scores I mean by starting good with things with things like this the fakie fifty-fifty waiter aren't in the run at fell apart and so he's not gonna get the type of score that he wanted to and we talked about in the final you just got to come out and try to win every moment that you're on the course every moment it's got to be the best run of your life the best singles of your life and that's that here comes Felipe Gustavo for his first of two runs nice starting off strong too switched moves not the fastest hustler on top of the quarter pipe which ends up making you work harder and in what it also leads to less tricks you know so potentially a lower score but it wouldn't when when he's on doing his tricks he doesn't need to do a lot that's the thing it's it's it's quantity it is quality not quantity with you stop that casual switch front tail right there now we kick with no side as if it's not hard to do and he gets the frontside flip into time I love that I love it that's you don't see Felipe messing around on the quarter pipes too much but well it's funny we went on a on a trip to Berlin together and he was doing the frontside flips that day really that's when he started doing them well it's working for him yeah it makes it every try it's great Felipe Gustavo run number one eight point zero nicely done that is the type of score you want to go into finals with all right let me give you the breakdown on the pylon on the left of your screen and how it works below the skaters name are the run section and best trick tabs the top four scores will be shown in white and the drop scores will show up in gray below that is the leaderboard the current skaters name is highlighted in white after their attempt their name will be in grey until they skate again the leaderboard will update after every single score and then finally on the bottom tab you'll see what score the skater needs for the lead and if they can't take the lead you'll see the highest placing they can get with a score that's the pylon coming in next from Tokyo Japan winner of the Pro Open in London and he has just been on a tear you toe ago may it's funny that he's so dialed that you have to look for little things little clues as to whether he's nervous or not his feet shook a little bit on the nollie five oh and that's his burden of nerves where is everybody else's bails and doesn't make their tricks you know we saw a little bit of what I think was the impact nerves in London before he won he bailed a bunch of tricks when he should have been vacant oh that's right he gave it he gave everybody a big scare like wait you're not gonna put down before and Shane O'Neill had to step in and say hey you toe just chill out just make your basics and you're gonna win and that's what happened right and he just rushed a run as though it was a warm-up run so the shaky feet had knowing no impact whatsoever none at all look at this just a gigantic switch sans backside lipslide which a couple years ago would have been an ender in a video part but is now just thrown in Utah's run at SOS a shout out Ronnie Pitino and better the Switchback lip nine club right off the bat you toe and that's how he started in London remember back to back nines in the run that's right two to nine runs which never ever happens but uh I mean he's got one right now still to come Nyjah Huston and the number one qualifier Chris Joslin when we come back keeping it going here in the finals we'll be back right after this welcome back everybody inside the Galen Center at USC this is the finals of the 2018 SLS Los Angeles World Tour as a great shot of the course that all the skaters are really liking and you're seeing skating let's take a closer look in the streetscape monke by 48 feet wide and the big section is back with a vengeance featuring 210 stair sets with very tall square rails on the inside that wrapped up and around this Bank launcher option giving new meaning to the concept of risk reward and on the outside edge are some lower impact six stair hubbas that will send skaters to the center section where they'll find this bear trap style bank-to-bank with mere image long round rails on either side there's also a whole slew of options including these three stair square rails and bump ups the ledge which can be hit from either direction and are perfect for tech skaters to rack up big points finally rounding out the course skaters can hit the 5 foot quarter pipe on the end and redirect back to the center and head back for more and this course has been I think one of the favorites of skaters so far in the last few years I think so at this really caters to everybody everybody has something to rip on it's got the big section and the small section and a quarter pipe for good measure we're gonna keep things rolling run number one here in the finals Kelvin hofler man that is a strong start right there now weight from board making sure he hits that nose he's speeding around and he knows exactly what he's going to do every moment he was hitted in that back tail like head on the other side of the rail from blunt style Oh barely hanging on to that Oh apparently hanging out of that even more tippy toes but Calvin just making it putting it down doing what we come to 100% expecting him every time and he understands this game and that's why because he knows he has to go for broke all right Yuto had a nine-point run Kelvin followed it up big time that's for sure nine point where I was an incredible run I mean the amount of tricks alone in this kickflip noseslide just to fill the space it's incredible it's just right into pushing for the next thing he skated the big section barely hanging on to that crook wanted to shoot out on him but he did it and then went straight do another trick eight point nine eight point nine back to tenth of a point on the table fine that matters in the in the finals everything matters well he's gonna have to live with it and we're gonna keep it cruising Manny Santiago on deck he gets a few points on Pierce Stoke alone then he makes up for with the rest of the skating here we go nice we're gonna go man he spit on fire this weekend he is doing awesome such a good frontside flip as you mentioned earlier it's a good straight kick foot with his leg but he turns it 90 man look at look at him go he is putting together good run already and he's loving it and that matters if you're having fun and you don't you feel like you're in that zone like he does like you could see out of space boom completely changes everything [Applause] [Music] [Applause] actually get marked up for extra weird double kick boneless why not look at this kickflip crook that that cake book crook actually shouldn't have happened the whole ride up to it he was adjusting his feet he wasn't ready for it did it anyway he just put down an awesome run he really did and there's the last jerk of it that's great big ups yeah there you go Manny needs a 9.14 first gets an 8.5 huge run score for Manny that's an excellent it puts them in third but right now everybody's just trying to jockey for some points in position and we'll see how things play out later best trick everybody wants to put down a run and this guy's no exception Nyjah Huston his runs in prelims were see if he go keep it rolling that's an incredible start he's already hopping from his free whims run starting out with the nose grind instead of a five oh he's been looking like very confident in not nervous here at all and he complains about being nervous in the run section he does I mean which is such a joke to everybody else yeah as as we fear him in the run section right but you fear my best trick to write disaster that was a hey you know what you can wear tights all you want when you drop a line like that you can do whatever you want that gap up over the flat bar fakie nosegrind down the rail dude that the other suit you grind just throwing it and the rails not that long for it either man he ripped what do you think well nine point one puts Nyjah in the driver's seat and the lead I mean hey you can't argue with that that was the best run we've seen right now absolutely he had all the variety the difficulty that he flow he put a hustle and his step so your number one qualifier last skater to go he said the hardest thing for him to do was qualify no pressure but still fresh Oh totally I will fatback tail because he he and type pumps the quarter pipe before it so that he can have the right speed for it that was crazy that he even tried that doesn't compromise right we've seen that he doesn't know when to say when that's right that's why he is who he is it doesn't always work but when he when it does it's just another thing to think of beeping he's not putting it together during this Ronnie but hopefully we see a great run out of him next time and you know what he can put down you could put down four nines in the best-trick section agree you know he did this gap out to lipslide quickly anti pumped the quarter pipe into a back tail he started out strong but then the Bruns has started falling apart and that actually historically been his problem is the mental game of this Street League final is it's a lot you know we say you got to go in all in every time I feel like maybe Chris Joslin needs to bump it down a little bit just to kick the finals off but here we got we're after one run Nyjah Huston no surprise he's on top with a 9.1 but just barely edging out Yuto and Kelvin Hoffler we'll be back with second runs there's that Nyjah 9.1 run we back second runs coming up after this [Music] welcome back to Los Angeles California and the second runs here in the finals at the 2018 SLS LA world tour stop could not be in a better place we're inside the Galen Center and guess who we got Chris Cole we got Louie Weezy F baby this is the stop that brings out all the celebs Grammy Award winner just got flying about that ring right there good to see him out here he loves skateboarding which is so cool here's our start list going back into the second runs Tommy Finn will be coming in followed by Felipe Gustavo Yuto Kelvin Hoefler Manny Santiago Nyjah Huston and Chris Joslin international field as these guys try to stack season points on their way to the World Championship and [Music] Tommy Finn is the Monster Energy making the cut skater today just squeezing in to the final Congrats the Tommy coming in run number two currently sitting in sixth place I like the little pumps which crook now I wonder what's going on in his brain whether he wants to up this thing whether he's gonna keep it the same to put down to good luck five point one so I say he keeps it he's just trying to get it make it happen but once again yeah a little bit of a struggle here yeah it's not his thing the old run section it's a funny thing about street we give street skaters and uh not necessarily rock skaters but we get the best of each of these skaters in their past the area of skateboarding which is cool it's that Tommy's not so good at the run who cares he's got five best-trick attempts he only needs four scores yeah we're gonna see him do what he does look forward to it wait so Tommy's second run score another zero and Philippe Gustavo's in town is in sixth and man is he coming in Switchfoot fifty straight out the gates it's crazy Philippe put in an eighth on his first run and he's not way up there you know he's at the bottom and right now well I mean that says a lot for these finals it takes a score of about let's say a 36 or better to win the finals these days that's nine nines 9 yeah just change the game nicely done this is a great run better than his last role and right at the buzzer I back that addition to the run you know what he also added the switch flip 50 he also did the nollie flip 50 those are all new to his run and here's a closer look at the nollie flip 50 just so gentle with it and there he is showing off his new new transition career all day Felipe Gustavo looking for his first ever podium eight point four on top of an eight already he's doing what he needs to do and and we already know what he can do in best trick I mean right leaves that's right so coming off a nine Utah ago man [Applause] [Applause] I mean this is a really well laid out plan the way that he you know did the Smith stall and they've got the speed from that to hit the rail like it's all just laid out really well [Applause] and the fact that these tricks are just happening so easily is just mind-boggling it is I mean are they or doesn't does it just look that easy cuz of his style are they easy for him he's done him so many times or is he exerting himself but although no they're easy for him because he went some every try so it's not like oh it's just a style it's I mean he if you make it every single try it can't be very hard right I don't know that it seems not possible I mean he has to put some he puts effort in that we're not seeing because his arms just don't want to swing around like it's hard but that was an incredible run follows a nine with an eight point nine so Yuto in the lead for now and we'll be back continuing with the run section at Nyjah Huston when we return yeah it was such a crazy thing like I have just got into the scene here in California and right when I got in the Street League is when I got my visa approved to officially become a citizen by the time I was traveling so much I'd like lived in my suitcase for a year yeah I ended up by going through all that and then also transitioning the living out here and that was one it was like the ultimate shell shocker there's so much going on down here fella it was kind of cozy almost you know always people around always something happening it's so crazy down here that [Music] when the lights go down I see things I can't explain call it now my name [Music] [Music] Mike are you serious dude you completely cut my head off torie let me just show you how it's done okay now watch [Music] totally [Music] welcome back to Los Angeles where we're midway through second runs here in the finals of the 2018 SLS World Tour coming to you from the Galen Center and you Steve Caballero right there in the middle with that the Hat the stylish hat on Jeff Jeff the father of the caballerial which he invented that trick in the 80s and it's so relevant today it's great we've seen a million Caballeros this weekend that's right caballerial backflip down the rail Cavalera kickflip down the stairs for a 9.5 from Chris Joslin today I mean thank you Steve Caballero for real I want to know what he calls the trick when you go when you go nollie into a 360 I wonder that as well is that does he call it a nollie cab he caught in Ollie I would if I were him for sure he also has the longest running signature skateboard shoe ever the half cap and what a legend what a legend cool dude two will do just the coolest dude actually we're gonna get straight back into it we're in the second attempts of the runs section here in the final from here we'll be moving on to best trick but first Kelvin hofler coming off a run score of 8.9 everybody's putting it down Wow okay so he's already changing up his run a little bit [Applause] gotta crime there for a second guess what cab back tail yeah thank you Steve one more what if he got paid residuals every time he did it like radio play of a song he's gonna just have to be happy with that shoe money okay let's do the residuals out of it [Applause] he almost squeezed that one in 360 flip lip I would have changed the entire sport I think great run nevertheless again Calvin Hoffler just banging him out as usual first run score was an 8.9 you never doubt I'm on the run section ever me and you also doubt him you don't doubt him on the best-trick section now you can't doubt him he just is a machine that handles it 8.7 making him work for it today though he's in second place Manny Santiago hype man Wow see Manny has a has a different a different strategy here changeup changeup a bit little here and there he'll put front five oh that would have definitely done him done him good he didn't let it faze him he just got right back into it so good for him and if you're gonna fall you might as well fall first and then pick up steam from there and end strong that's right you don't want to fall right in the middle [Applause] [Music] that's how you up it at the end right at the end that's how you make up for the fall what fall and you know that's how much skating he put on put in after the fall that 360 shuvit / impossible invisible impossible thing impressive crunch up 57.8 so the judges remember the fall a lot yeah slapping them on the back of the hand for that one but everybody's making everything so that's me that may be the determining factor here tonight like hey sorry you bail that no one else did totally you don't give the judges reasonable Nyjah coming in off a nine point one I mean because nice is not nice little setup I like that back when he knows grind back to regular and you see had no time to set up for it he's coming out of a steep Bank totally just so much happening there [Applause] see it's crazy that that actually got made in the first line because it's too hard comes up with the crook up the rail though a strong finish and he did have the knee injury that kept him out of London so to see anything happening in that region knee bonk kids could be detrimental it's scary the good thing is he's got adrenaline pumping right now jumping around so hopefully that helps him out and and yeah I mean he put down everything else other than that one trick so that's a great run eight point one so a very solid score even with the fall because he had so much other things happening in that run Chris Joslin now his second of two he's trying to make up ground coming off a four point nine yes he is student super impressive this now equip is crazy not [Applause] that's funny that that tre flip almost didn't work because he'll tre flip off of the arena's were [Applause] random choice of moves to finish the run that far ahead that was within time still but so much great skating he is such a crowd favorite and a my favorite me too Wow he can backside big spit anything I swear he came back that big spent any time 28.9 huge score for Joslin good for him while you're enjoying this programming follow us on instagram also at sls get on instant right now it's just three letters SLS super all about those trophies tonight Yuto yuto's got his name on first place right now he's up in the lead with a seventeen point nine followed by Kelvin Hoffler and Nyjah Huston best tricks coming up wouldn't we return [Applause] [Music] just a reminder that our home etn is giving 50% off a year subscription for a limited time so go to e TN live.com and sign up now web-only welcome back to the 2018 sls los angeles world tour we are in the finals best-trick just about to begin taking a look at our judges that's it those are the guys with their finger on the nines that's a crack squad right there speaking of knives we're gonna send it off to Chris Cole who breaks down the evolution of the 9 Club the 9 Club has evolved since 2010 when SOS started back then nine point tricks were very few and far between you almost were guaranteed that you were gonna be the leader or the winner and they were wild when they actually happened nowadays people are starting to do very different tricks in order to get 9 Club surprising tech tricks I think with social media with the content platform can just further the information of what be done skateboarding has just skyrocketed the progression that's tricks how many supports doing it and how many people are good at it and it's insane to watch I'm scared to say what's gonna happen in the future things have come a long way in the nine club it's great to see but tricks that got nines a long time ago still get nines today and a guy who knows a lot about it you saw him in the piece Shane O'Neill we're gonna throw it down to Andrews standing by for more.we shame shame you just barely barely missed the cut earlier today what is going on with the level of skateboarding out there on the course right now it's actually insane with watching the finals right now they have the best trick to go now who's your pick for the wind [Music] right now I'm gonna say youth oh he's looking real smooth everything he's doing really easy for him so we'll say what do you think he's got to do to make it happen to beat nyjah huston just what he lands I guess he I think he has the right plan he knows the scoring system properly in and yeah I would pick him to any show and less noisy you know you never know he's gonna do so well thanks for the insight back to you guys thank you very much Andrew let's take a look at the current standings after the run section Yuto hora go May up on top of the 70 17.9 followed by Kelvin Hoffler 17.6 Nyjah Huston and third all those guys bunched up everybody's got a shot at it Felipe mani Chris Joslin Tommy thin rounding out top something all right before we get to the best-trick let's give you the breakdown with the basics of how this event works there's two sections to SLS the run section of best-trick we already said we already saw the runs there two 45-second runs followed by five the best-trick attempts and the top four scores overall count from any section the highest score you could possibly get forty that's if you got four tens that's never happened so the order has changed based on the results after the run section but Tommy Finn is gonna be coming in first once again followed by Chris Joslin Manny Santiago Felipe Gustavo Nyjah Huston Kelvin Hoffler and then Yuto hora Goma in the driver's seat he's gonna get to see what everyone does he's gonna be the last guy to try anything here tonight in the final that's quite an advantage it can't be yes Nige is usually in that driver's seat not tonight a fakie heelflip that's the trick that you do when you're playing a game of skate against somebody you do it flat ground and you'll almost always get a letter on them right and that's on flat and that's on flat and here's Tommy just flinging it down ten as his first of the tricks he's going to do that was rad so he needs a seven point nine to take the lead nice it's an eight point three which does it for but that's cuz he has he has three scores on the board everybody else has to just run scores were not that great he's got all work to do from here on out but that's a great start next in Chris Joslin currently in seventh place didn't have the best first run had an amazing second run going fast and he makes the back I thought he was going to loop out on the quarter pipe like Nyjah did that one year but he pulled it off [Applause] look at how far this is yeah it's 12 feet just to get to the rail and then the rails high so you have to go extra fast to get the height and the bump is not a massive launch not real it's a weak bump eight-point for the crowd hates the 8.4 I think the 8.4 is completely fair because it is still a big long Ollie to smash on something you know sometimes the judges have to do their job and crowds don't like it unfortunately man he tried a big move right there try to bury oh he'll to something something with a grind down the rail that would have scored very well Felipe Gustavo coming off an 8.0 and an eight point four in the run section those are great scores Scott coming in switched doing really well making the big section look manageably like medium sized yes just but it's not making it just a section see here but it's huge yeah it's really big awesome switchback tail eight point three that is a good score that is what you want and he is bumped up in the first place right now for now Nyjah Huston also coming off two great run scores [Music] way to hold on to that talk us through it he know he's in but he doesn't get the the type of tail press that he wants he's very far on the side of that of the handrail and not on the top but he's somehow he somehow wrangled that in so that's a tip of the hat right there eight point seven three huge scores so far from Nyjah of course of course of course also that tricks so hard now we 182 those grind down that thing [Applause] but there was so much great skating in the runs kelvin 8.9 8.7 this is his first best trick attempt everybody knows what that what just happened it was supposed to be a full catback tail it went into full cab back 500 weekd out like a sus key and he pulled it watch his truck hit that was full sus key none of that that is supposed to happen and it was beautiful he did it so good he did it amazing I think Adrian Lopez right there he's at 8.4 to take the lead indeed and kelvins had to work for his points all weekend that was good though that one came a little easier even though it wasn't what he was trying to trying to do surprise Yuto holds it together with a nollie cab slash now a 270 switchback lift so he needs an eight point eight for first where is that trick stand I don't know man I don't know I don't know what they're gonna do with that I mean nine Club with a with a half caps uh ski that's nollie he did it not sketchy but sketchy for him it's got to be up there eight point eight that's actually what I was thinking a temp one done four more attempts from our seven finalists still to come Tommy Finn coming in in sixth place looking for his fourth score but then he's got to get rid of some low run scores after that [Applause] he did not do good in his runs but he is definitely delivering what he meets to right now to make up for that indeed kickflip crook he's gonna get scored well but is it gonna be as good as some of the moves that are going up going down out there needs an 8.4 to move into lead 8.4 so he is in the lead but once again he's just the first skater to post four scores next in Joslin he needs a big score he did a big score was perfect watch this thing up and over the bar Kicks down the nose perfect catches it with his back leg actually overturns it too strong it's got his pants wrapped around his heel and he still makes it perfect eight point six Chris Joslin JC appear to the crowd turned around pointed to thumbs at the judges this is awesome this rules this is what you want participation Jones [Applause] people are holding up nines I back it all you know what I love it I wish it didn't happen to joseline but I sure do love it he's got more where that came from these judges right now are like oh man what do we got to give them to keep the crowd off these senses they're like oh that guy took the heat off of us yeah well they got to give me a score they're gonna get ya opt baby here's an 11:00 okay just you know what five snap it just just reaching this bag and pick out your own score full-sized candy bar score all right Calvin's climbing nine I think Manny will be psyched no matter what cuz he's just psyched eight point nine should we boo the crowds got us covered but they're okay with that crowds okay I mean Johnson just delivered air mail and nobody's okay with scores not being high for air mail Felipe Gustavo only needs a 6.2 to move into the lead from seventh place but we know the game you need to go hammer time every time that's only the second fall here in best-trick which is impressive once it goes hammer time people tend to start bailing but so far well you know what's what's funny about Felipe is Felipe usually beats Felipe because his tricks are so hard he bails true Nyjah coming in in fifth needs a five to take the lead oh trying it's fray put 50 on the rail but missing it which is weird it is weird he has three attempts left and he has great scores on the board so he's still looking great but once you know once you get to that point you start then you start your your mind starts playing tricks right should I do that was yeah that again switch it up 100% did you see Kelvin doing the poppy rod sweep right there no yeah it was P rod sweeping the top of those stairs oh okay three Falls in a row Felipe Gustavo Nyjah Calvin on deck Yuto who's in third I don't think we're gonna see a bell anything Yuto does will put him back in the lead with his fourth score that's the trick that could just seal it so that is the trick that sealed the deal in London formed but it was on a much more mild obstacle yes not a handrail as big as your living room look at how he did that one footer which should be extra points right popper encuesta rule and look at how he lands at just yep that makes sense nine 9.5 Wow things are heating up outside so you tahor ago may move him back into the lead trying to follow up his win in London here now let's keep it go we'll be back after this with more best trick true skate is the official mobile game of Street League skateboarding [Music] [Applause] welcome back to the finals that's trick section of the 2018 SLS Los Angeles world tour we're inside the Galen Center we're not the only ones all kinds of celebrities on hand that's Mike Shinoda from Lincoln Park rock and roll thanks for coming out supporting SLS so this is the best trick section and we're gonna throw it down to Andrew who's standing by with another celebrity my personal favorite who's here tonight this is not just Chad Muska it's the mosque he's here in the building Andrew what you got thanks Paul Chad you are definitely one of the modern what do you think about the progression going on live right now on the course man it's completely next-level to see these guys take it to this to these tricks flipping in flipping out the consistency I mean I never would have imagined it would have come this far it's the next level amazing who's your pick for the win I think it's gonna be Utah I give it to you too awesome thanks so much Chad back to you yep you heard it here first from Chad Muska you can I trust Chad I did tip you toe is just throwing down huge tricks easily alright look at our current standings you toe up on top look at the numbers though 36.2 next in line Joslin with a thirty point eight so everybody's got work to do Tommy Finn Calvin Nyjah Manny and Felipe rounding out the top seven here in the finals we've seen two best-trick tries we got three more to go from each of our seven finalists Tommy Finn coming in he can't even get to first place right now he needs a 9.1 just to hit second wow I've been a good start that would have been a great start plus a kickstart to stoke up the building as well a big fakie tre flip like that like he did in free ones Chris Joslin will be coming in next he's trying to drop a four point nine he has four scores on the board if he can get rid of that he'll be moving on up [Applause] that was just barely off now Joslin did the caballerial flip down the stack in prelims and get a 9.5 so he knows what it's good for and we have Steve Caballero standing by waiting to give the mark of approval all right Manny Santiago coming in in sixth trying to get a sports score [Applause] you know when mani makes a trick like that it's hard not to just now into the microphone is that the wrong thing to do look at out well we did it how many points should he get for that because nobody's doing no real heal back fifties like anywhere not just right now in finals deserving well desert that's his second night of the day and that's the second night of his career that's so cool so cool good for him man what a day for Manny and for us because we get to watch that Stoke Manny moves up in the second place next score he's gonna try to drop as a 7.8 on deck Felipe Gustavo coming in in seventh looking for his fourth score now [Music] [Applause] that's how you crack up the score right there yeah switch frontside flip switch tailslide tried to 270 out I mean that's how you get in the club there's no 10 club yet but I think these guys are like they're thinking about open everything on it Nyjah Huston coming in in six but that doesn't tell the story he's trying to get his fourth score written all over that's not that's not a trick you think of that Nyjah goes to at this point in the game but I mean he's so good he can do it all rights right it almost over rotated on him if it if that back wheel didn't walk on the top it would have been over I'm anticipating a big score yeah yeah we're in the club he's in the club 9 Club nine point one moves him within striking distance with two tries left all right Shane's breaking the scores down for them it's like okay here we go Nyjah here's what you got to do next night so nyjah's lowest score right now is an eight point one that's the next one to drop Wow I can't believe we're in the zone of dropping eight point one right Kelvin Hoefler needs a nine point seven to take the lead from Yuto that is now 89.7 but you know it's let off the move Kelvin was going for his fourth score just straight up he's being strategic he's trying to get it move up and then try to win it after that that's right I think when you toast own down moves like this though you need to all your scores need to be up true but 8.5 I mean that's Oh he's rewarded well Yuto one London with a 35:1 he's already out of 36 great - that's that's a 99.1 average for Utah you're watching the finals of the 2018 SLS Los Angeles World Tour two attempts left and it is crazy in here temperature is rising in LA yeah it's hot in the shade here in that way Tommy a massive fakie tre flip from Tommy and that's what you want I mean even if you're not even if you're not gonna win you want to show up and do a good showing definitely but Tommy's trying to drop his run scores that trick is going to keep him in contention because that was huge an eight nine for Tommy Finn it just moves him up into sixth but now he's in the mix okay okay he's got some room to grow with another hammer and he hasn't done a couple of his specials yet Chris Joslin needs a nine point three to move into second place [Applause] how is he gnarlie it's first Jocelyn and rightfully so doing Steve Caballero proud with the cat slip down the ten I think I just saw a nod from Steve to him shakes things up that's joslyn's second 9.5 of the day in the second 9.5 near in the final point fives flying around Wow Manny coming in needs a nine point nine for first who knows he might do it [Applause] 17050 attempts might as well shove it out to baby Mandy putting on a show the People's Champ Felipe Gustavo on deck he's in seventh place looking for his fourth score still but his his first three scores are solid I mean if he makes this this is a huge score that was so close it's gonna come down to his fifth and final attempt [Applause] and that I mean that everyone is your everyone's winning and you're gonna still might end up in seven even though yeah I went to LA and I pretty much won got seven in the final Nyjah on deck trying to drop that 8.1 needs a nine for to take the lead from Yuto I mean that's the way you play [Applause] he tried a hammer he looks like he's hurting but he has one try left only you know he's gonna go for it all in he's gonna need a nine point four for the win unless you tow you never know you tow could add to his lead drop at 8.8 Kelvin Hoffler needs a nine point seven to take the lead that's a stretch but this is Kelvin Hoefler 2015 world champ with a bun Buster right there trying for the big spin front blunt and just taking that ball like a champ Yuto they're happy hurt leader what's he got for us huh now he'll knows now he he'll crook [Applause] you though the rails small [Applause] incredible that was awesome but what do they judge it because it's not as good as all he's trying to get rid of his an 8 8 all right trying to get rid of an 8 8 and that that's a low score for youto nightclub [Applause] Wow with one best trick attempt left Utah hora go make trying to follow up his win in London with another win here that would make it two in a row he's sitting on a 36 point for one of the highest scores we've ever seen that first-place trophy is within his grasp we'll be back after this [Applause] welcome back inside the Galen Center for the best-trick attempted 8 we have the man that made it all possible the founder of SLS mr. rob dyrdek let's take a look current standings sitting on a score of 36 point for Utah ago mate coming into the fifth and final attempt there are three skaters on this list that can take it away from them Chris Jocelyn Kelvin Hoffler and Nyjah Huston they are all in the running to win here tonight but it's not going to be easy one best trick try locked Tommy Finn first in the best he can do his second currently in sixth place just looking to move up and stack those season points towards the world championship Tommy sent having a great showing here tonight looking strong all the way around really stoked he made that fakie tre flip down the stairs that was awesome this is one of the three that could take the win from Yuto he needs a 9.5 [Applause] and this is where the mental game comes into play because joseline is such an animal has such skill but instead of doing a trick that he's really really good at he decided to do a random one front side three nevertheless an amazing showing here tonight from Joslyn on deck Manny Santiago in fifth place needs a 9.1 to move in the second [Applause] other than fists again what a star Mosca giving him love gotta back that yep you want that Felipe Gustavo still looking for his fourth score needs a nine point six to move up to fit and and see this is where you see everybody going for broke all in I mean jumping at a rail that way blind can't see it that's just rough well she didn't do that in practice he's like I just got to go for something Nyjah Huston needs a nine point six to win it he's the only skater out here with a realistic chance to take it from you toe it comes out of this that's it that's it for Nyjah now he is gonna finish in fourth place so now it's just kelvin meets a nine point nine which is may need to involve a backflip Shane and Nyjah Huston have scored nine point nine Kelvin has he's gonna have to do it right here if he does he wins if he doesn't Utah Horrigan May backs up his win in London he was looking for some sort of trick out of that does it Yuto [Applause] this world tour stop make it two in a row for youto what a tear he's been on this is insane and that was a heavy contest he's got a 36.4 I mean he's trying to drop an eight point nine he's trying to get rid of an eight point nine right here I was beautiful even with the fall what an incredible talent so no nerves for youto here tonight you saw him shake his feet a little bit and that's all there was was it that was the only clue and he followed it up with 99.5 eight point eight eight point nine the winner of the Los Angeles World Tour congratulations to Utah ago may we'll be back with Awards after this the 2018 SLS World Tour of Los Angeles has been brought to you in part by Monster Energy welcome back inside the Galen Center where we just saw one of the heaviest finals in the history of SLS Chris what do you think of these results that was nuts I'm like I feel bad for the people that that were in that because that was not and they just delivered and delivered and delivered I mean any one of those guys delivering that performance on any other day probably would have won and the scores tell the story 36.4 overall score for Yuto for a go may and let's throw it down to Andrew cannon Yuto congratulations this is two in a row at Street League what does this victory mean to you I'm so hyped thank you for everyone congratulations very well-deserved back to you yeah beyond beyond well-deserved Yuto is he's gonna be he's a legend already absolutely here we have the monster highest scoring tricks there's two of them this time Chris Joslin 9.5 full cab kickflip and Yuto now a 270 switchback tail down the big rail that is just phenomenal look at that congratulations to both of those guys for monster highest scoring trick up the finals so before we send things off just want to update you there's no word yet on zion right after taking that fall right before final but for updates make sure to follow sls on
