Skatercross 2016: FULL BROADCAST | World of X Games

how's it going everybody and welcome to beautiful San Diego California today we are at the Clermont skate park for the 10th annual clash at Clermont and there's a lot going on down here my name is Todd Richards and I'm joined by legendary skater Tony Hawk lots of demos going on in the ball in the vert ramp but Tony a first-of-its-kind event today skater cross what's it all about you've ridden this course it's it's pretty tiring it's a challenge - I'm surprised it's taking this long for us to figure out how to do a skater cross type of event you know what they've done it in motocross they've done it obviously in BMX and snowboarding so it's been a long time coming it's been a dream man at McDonald's for sure and the course is definitely challenging it looks fun but also looks incredibly intimidating let's check out who we've got Tony so looking at this list of guys who do you like today for this competition well obviously andis a favorite since he's one of the masterminds behind this whole project it's good to see Ryan Sheckler in there cuz he grew up around skate parks tom char obviously is no stranger to this and chords you know and I'd say any other guys could take it all right well we're gonna go up to Corbin who's the start gate yes a start gate we don't traditionally see these in skateboard contest but he's gonna give us the lowdown of how these guys get started Here I am on top of the platform here at the skate across the highest point right next to me is the gates right here the exact same gates as they use in the BMX racing for the Olympics slightly modified a little bit with these handlebars so the skaters can push off straight into a 25 foot drop into an 18 foot gap all right thanks Carbon well I have a little experience on this course so I can tell you the first two jumps are probably the trickiest the first one is a very small transition and you have to suck up the speed so you don't really get a launch the second one is a full launch so you can just Huck it and the landing is good and you go straight into the berm with a lot of her keeps centered keeps you on the wall get plenty of speed for these first double rollers and then this jump is probably the hardest one because it sends you way over the landing so you have to try to go up and make it over that hurdle to get a good landing the hurdle is really there for guidance you go over this little single roller into the second berm just as much vert there and then what I like to call the whoopty-doo section which is basically two jumps set up roller a triple roller back into the burn by now your legs are really tired and it sends you right back into the second section with these other rollers and the finish line you do not have to land that so I think everyone's gonna gun it alright Tony well unlike regular skateboard contest you're not being judged you don't have to do any tricks here this is all about speed and crossing the finish line first we're gonna start off with two riders up and racing the first one across the finish line wins skaters will need to win two races to move forward to the semis if you win one race and you lose another you will have another chance at it in the LCQ the last-chance qualifier and there will be a wild card for the person with the fastest time who didn't qualify they get to be in the semi finals as the ninth skater all right well the only rule here is to stay in your lane and make a custom yes okay the first skater cross race of the day this is Round one right there are you looking at tre wood and he is up against Bryson Ferrell Tony this is the first skate across race ever this is very exciting a tre has been the fastest in practice so we'll see what happens but don't count Bryson out here we go first skater cross race ever that first jump that can make or break you especially if you're going too high but it looks like tre has got a good handle on it he knows what it takes to get the speed now this jump with the bar is basically that's the challenge because that you got to go straight up or else you gonna overshoot it and Bryson was just about to do that but I like his hustle he got up Talladega Nights like he's just gonna run the course but then that next bar shut him down so trade isn't just making short work of this course ending it off little frontside air there Wow insane run trey is looking speedy that's how he's looked in the whole practice too so he's got that a right there you see Bryson overshooting the gap and he's did one line on flat all right let's check in with Corbin who's with our winner just have the first hate of the day Trey Ward came out of the gates blazing we nervous going into the first one yeah definitely because you don't know what's gonna happen you could mess up on a certain job and I'll just ruin whole race so definitely have to have your head straight alright heading back up to the start here now this guy Andy McDonald this is his brainchild Tony you know Andy Mac what can you expect to see out of him and also Mike Owen right next to him a local here at Clermont well I think Andy knows the course better than anyone he came to help to sign it but we've seen Mike practice a lot I mean almost every day it was available he was out there trying so this could be a really good match up right here and they're about equal with the speed Mike's a little higher which can be risky because you don't go as fast that way but there is the problem jump every time yes hustle go so Mike oh and out the back Andy obviously showing that he's got a lot of experience on this course would you say there's an advantage with him designing this thing and actually made me sandbagging a little bit I don't know I mean whether looks of that second jump which it looks like he was kind of struggling you get over with the speed so I feel like these these young whippersnappers know I be Sean and what's up but it's good to see him out there Andy McDonald walking out right now after the win this is your brainchild what's it like to see this in full effect here that's so much fun man it's just like so excited to watch it and bring in cowbells as you go through the corners it's just like it's racing man it's so fun all right stick around much more to come here from the clash at Clermont skater cross is going down we've got some big names coming up Ryan Sheckler as well as Tom Shar skateboarding FINA all right welcome back to Claremont California the classic Claremont and the debut of skater cross we have had a couple races under our belt here and we are into race number three of round one with some serious hotshots Cory Juneau right there and next to him and the viewers right is one of the heavies of this sport Ryan Sheckler is in the house and I like how this course is the great equalizer Ryan's known for his Street skating Cory's known for more mega ramp of bull skating but it comes together right here at the skater cross Tony who do you think has more to advantage here a guy that rides bowls or maybe a street skater I want to say Corey because he's used to the transitions more these days as you can see coming out of the gate he's already ahead but don't count Ryan out Ryan grew up in skate parks he knows what it takes but whoa he knows what it takes to almost die too when you go under the bar and go swish see that's the on primary's you don't get points it's all about the speed and clearly Cory is going to win this race judging by his body language he knows he's got it he lost scheckler back there Wow what a race it's exciting from start to finish here and right here Ryan was tempting fate with the alley air walk miss grab and then ducks up into the text onto the bar to revert Ryan Sheckler quickly how did you end up doing that u-turn I was just off of it my whole board my feet were gone I was like I'm gonna try and then you ended up going around switch get it back 180 we're good it's not a street contest gotta go straight he's gonna go straight all right thanks Corwin back up to the top here this race will be beaver Fleming looking right there on the screen up against Alex Sergent a and two totally different styles again beaver is more known for these kind of Nitro Circus big job big stunts and Alex is a bold Ripper but they both know how to get speed and here this is a pretty neck-and-neck so far look at that you could tell Alex I'm practicing here but so has beaver a little flair on that landing for Alex and that set him off course so all beaver has to do is stay on at this point don't get too tricky we've seemed to do some back flips and stuff and practice and it's like wow just gotta make the finish line buddy that's it all right beep there's a little Oh little shoes Wow backflip before the gap all you got to do is make it past the gap so don't have to make that actual landing and that's just fine but you see right here Alex got a little squirrely I don't know what happened there and then beaver straight up with the backflip finish unreal all right straight back up to the top here Willis Kimball a guy primarily known for shredding concrete balls and he is up against Adam Taylor Adam Taylor a renowned mega ramp rider but like I said this is the great equalizer here this course brings it all together and see what happens and see that they don't want to go too hot in that first jump or on the second jump because it really slows you down you know I really do like the fact that you've got skaters in this competition that are from all walks it that I mean Willis is just a concrete destroyer out here as you see him take the lead and you saw Adam there hit the bar actually broke the bar on that one jump so he's out and he's got to make sure Willis finishes the race right here literally the home stretch and jump with a broken bar going a little tweaky okay this next race Grayson Fletcher up against Josh Stafford you see right there on your screen and then here Gandalf mr. wizard I'm gonna cut you pretty sure Grayson just arrived he said he was stuck in traffic he got a late start I'm not sure if he's even skated the course today and Josh on their hand works their skates it all the time so Grayson resembling Gandalf and there we go Oh double jeopardy here comes Grayson he is known for pumping the living daylights out of bowls as he goes over now that could have been an easy catch up for him because obviously Josh went under the bar this is just this is chaos right here Wow I like it and I was really waiting for Grayson to say you shall not pass that's all I was waiting for as Josh Stafford clears the finish line they're back to the start Matt boy stur right there getting ready for his first run of the day and he will be matched up against Jeremy green that boy stur who's no stranger to big transitions he was the first one to drop in on the giant wall at the San Jose skatepark anyone's seen that look it up it's ridiculous look at this even right here whoa Matt getting a little squirrely that will cost you some time for sure and then they go over the bar and Matt does not make it he's not gonna Ricky Bobby his way out of here Robin is racing Jeremy Green working at the skate park getting a lot of time in on this course he looks really comfortable he did look like he picked up his feet at the end there - whoa big method Wow he's gonna come out the winner obviously see right there the more air you get sketchier your landing and the more likely that you're gonna fall behind the points are trying to hold on to it right there it goes down and we are straight back up to the start once again look at this little guy right here evan doherty super vert Ripper mega ramp Ripper and Tom char obviously X Games gold medalist and both of these guys are very familiar with going big going fast this should be a good race we go into the first job Tonino we've got two young upstarts it's hard to imagine that tom char is actually kind of becoming a veteran these days it's sure yeah he's the only few years older than Evan but he's been doing it for awhile Rui always over the bar there's a little flair these guys are neck-and-neck through the berms and it's almost like who has the advantage who doesn't have to go as far right here and switch it up the lanes what's the blue book on that this is a good read it's like a tie it's tight that is how you do it Tony walk us through this crazy race that's the race you've been waiting for look at these guys just neck-and-neck through the first burn you got to stay in your lane on that berm and here they're just jump four jump and then right here they cross over luckily that berm doesn't have the rules of staying your own lane and here is literally a photo finish it's right at the end of the jump and evan was the first one across all right well let's check in with Corbin who's with our two competitors you only see guys that made it through the whole course and then you slammed right at the end what was that like Oh scary he was like I was right behind her the whole time I was trying to catch up and I'm like it was hard hey Evan how does it change for you at the end when you have to switch it over and he came inside it was crazy like I could just see him right next to me like I just have to cut inside and like he just went over he is crazy all thanks for joining us you are watching skater cross here at the 10th annual clash at Claremont now telling you this course is unbelievable it takes a lot of wood to build and a lot of efforts so let's check out what it looks like from start to finish well we're about to build a race course for skateboard I'm Ron Kindler I'm the general contractor this job I'm in charge I guess we're building some big jumps never been done before we have a rough design we have a picture of what this is going to look like I'll do my very best with Andy to figure out the best transitions for the gaps that we want and then we're gonna have to build it [Applause] [Music] first kicker going up looking pretty funny interesting biggest jumps on the course they've got to be right so what we're gonna have to do is let him throw himself over it and make sure it works hopefully we can set it up and if he jumps it and we can just make it a little longer a little shorter and then roll with it from there hopefully I'll roll in and be like ah this is easy let's keep going we got it but you just never know until you try it once hope this works Wow I think we have to move the jump back the gap has to be bigger maybe start with a couple feet two feet three feet I'm slowing myself down and in racing you don't want to sell yourself down ever [Music] test number one was just a success so now we can move forward in an expedient fashion [Music] so here we are it's the last day of the build super excited the guys are finishing up right now the build went really great we've changed a few things as we went to make the course work for everyone who's ridden it they've been able to adapt fairly quickly so it's a successful build for us the event is coming up quick and I can't wait to see these guys get crazy on this is gonna be nuts okay round number two in the gate Bryce and Farrell up against a Grayson Fletcher there's a lot of fans out here some more high-profile than others sitting next to me right now that man himself Krishna's SOI you're yelling at her yelling at phone Grayson Fletcher's about to drop in and I just know his energy is just like over the top and sometimes he just needs to be calm and know how good he is and he'll probably fly through this faster than anybody all right well I'm gonna let you cheer him on out here how about you are you gonna be riding it I'm not riding it but maybe maybe you're making good right here he's gonna be dropping in with me later like I guess we're gonna do it come back cut that we're not doing that all right this is the first of round two the first race round two Grayson Fletcher up against Bryson Farrell good start up Grayson's just got to stay on at this point whoa Oh getting squirrely I think he's zone where Center me through them through the berms there I love how he all these over some of those wait a second that was like a one footer over the over the bar and this this section seems like it slows everyone down for some reason I think it's almost like it's uphill Wow so Grayson coming through here but he's not so far in the lead Oh 180 but that's okay that was a victory veil how it she could have been a painful bale you don't want to put your skateboard there straight back up to the top sheckler in the gate well Ryan the pressure is on right now because if you lose this race up against Alex or gentei you are out race number two round two both accomplished skaters to get exciting here nice little tweaks over both jumps looking solid and you see how Alex just zips bikes he was on the I guess that's the inside track the low track oh here we go and now Ryan has a chance to pass him and he's on the low track and Brian will be on the low side again on the last burn wow this is tie so it's getting close there he goes zooming past him that's all it took he's in the lead just got to make it to that point and it looks like Ryan Sheckler has won that race so a tight race Tony on the brief site you can see the berm was the deciding factor right here Alex held it high and loss of speed lost the pump and that was the end he's getting so many contests around the world check how does this compare to those like going head-to-head like this it's so fun man Frank when you have someone to race against go way faster you try way harder and like hello I just love it I love that excitement and energy this is tight we'll see you in the next one see anybody all right the racing is getting intense right now Tom char we saw him up against Evan Doherty pressure is on him now to make it he's up against Mike Owen right now and it's good we're seeing more completed races get these later ones these guys are definitely getting more used to this course that's for sure there we go these guys are neck and neck especially right there as Mike takes the lead coming out of the berm whoa Oh Tom with a super leg grab and then there he goes he's on that berm he's ahead and coming into the final berm Tom probably has the advantage because he's low again there is it's bright ahead Wow pressures on looks like tom is gonna take this one Owen goes down Oh late shove it over the finish line so Tom char makes it on and these guys neck and neck on this jump Tom barely hanging on with a late grab and it comes through Carbon tell us what's up with Tom how tough is it out there it's harder than it looks it's like a couple that jumps or like it to slow down to like get speed it's like it's really confusing but it's fun it's cool it seems like it's high intensity we've two guys what do you think is gonna be locking the finals when it goes to three I've never done it with three so I don't know I don't know it's gonna be crazy though someone's gonna slay him I bet I could lock Thanks Wow so that's someone hopefully isn't Beaver Fleming who you lookin at right here and he is up against courage you know who's been running this course very very fast right now tre wood has the fastest time let's see if these guys can get close to it there we go it's amazing how much ahead somebody can get just off the first jump you can see the quarry is already gunning out he knows exactly where to find speed here he knows he knows where to hit the berms but the Ebers on the low side now and it's very possible that he could catch up coming through the last berm pump and that's gonna cost him the brace that is was fast hometown boy here do you think that's a bit of an advantage a bunch maybe a little bit got support of like all the locals and people around the park it's good feeling to be at home amazing thing to have in my local park hey it's it's intense and we could see your face you said it's intense now with two guys what do you think it's gonna be like going in with three guys in the finals should be good those are nothing hopefully no elbows good luck out there see buddy Gord you know a lightning bolt through this course Ryan Sheckler is stoked on it we are halfway through a round commercial break we saw Cory Juneau put down a blistering time we did 30.8 four seconds fastest time we've seen on this course today ride all right well Jeremy Green and Willis Kimball they have their work cut out for them in the middle of Round two here in skater cross looking pretty much the same in terms of technique and speed even I wonder if being taller here would actually work to an advantage to be able to pump through some of these bumps I'm not really sure about that I can't say speaker experience that that helped me at all but that also can be that my legs are old I was a full set up for you tonight but look at this oh they crossed over so who's it gonna be looking like so jeremy green winning that one Tony talked us through the replay here there was some tight racing this is the very end and that's it this finish line and then throw your board and take out your competitor jeremy green and Willis Kimball user guys that was out of control what did happen there I think there was like 10 dudes on the course at once man I saw you eyeing him off than that last one we did you feel him behind you there after that last corner yeah he was right on my tail like a year's worth of skating in like 30 seconds - you guys look a little shell-shocked don't let you take some time and have a little glass of water or something see you guys all right well back up to the gate here Adam Taylor on screen up against Matt boy stur these two guys both vertical skateboarding wizards and it looks like Matt got a head start here Oh Adams out on the first jump still gonna try to finish the race though it's weird to think you don't have someone next to you that's pushing you yet you still got to go through the whole thing and stay on and he ducked up that bar so I don't sure what that means I think Adams gonna give up on that one boys are still I mean you can you can run up here and catch up to people as well but Boise is gonna take this one fairly easily and there it is doesn't have to make it just had to finish look at that score getting the job how do you bet on this Jud right there Wow stinkbug rollover totally works whoo all right well Trey wood right there on screen has been incredibly fast all during practice and he is up against Josh Stafford now I'm looking for Trey would possibly to put up a very fast time here remember right now Corey do you know holding the fastest time through this course and Josh actually has the most experience here he's been working here Oh lost on that second one trey is not gonna slow down either that's that's what I like to see about race he's still gonna try as hard as he's still gonna get lots of speed finish with style man oh man he is just making these transitions perfectly what he's about the only guy that seems to be flying through that section all right yes Trey would I'm over the finish line very stylish kicked out frontside air right there Accord you know looking on a DD beat my time no he didn't alright before we get back up to the start gate Andy McDonald the brainchild of this entire thing let's pick his brain a little bit and see how this whole event came to be he's right so skater cross started as an idea between skaters for years it's not my idea specifically I used to talk to anybody that would listen really wouldn't that be so cool to build a BMX track that you could skateboard on it wasn't until this past spring that Daniel Dan Harris built a track that was essentially a miniature skater cross track he built it as a rhythm section for his BMX park back in North Carolina called Alex or gentei hey meet me out in North Carolina we're gonna try and race this thing and see if it works and sure enough we were racing through and we're like wow it works [Music] we were just like how we're gonna get the word out let's do a Kickstarter campaign maybe we'll raise enough money to do a race a bunch of back and forth with some big-name companies I thought they wanted to be involved straightaway ultimately they ended up not going with that program that fast but about a year ago and the YMCA approached me about capital fundraising campaign to buy a new vert ramp because the vert ramps ten years old it's starting to go by the wayside I said let me make some calls about the vert ramp and what do you think about this idea skater cross we were going to update the park we were going to improve the vert ramp put a new one in and then Andy came to us and said hey let's do this skater cross I was bracing myself for more naysayers skater cross it's racing like it's it's very different than any other competition in skateboarding mainly because there's no judging we wanted to add skater cross because it's innovative the YMCA of San Diego County's longtime relationship with Andy has proven itself so we have a lot of trust in the reasoning behind it a lot of people are just like that sounds super cool I just want to see if done just do it once and then we're on board you know so we're gonna do once the fruits of his labor right now come to fruition here at the clash at Clermont Andy McDonald up against Evan Doherty micro machine this kid is a force to be reckoned with this is the opposite ends the spectrum here on Asian experience and he obviously the veteran and Evan the relatively new guy and they just do that on my behalf because I was saying that I think Andy's gonna finish this race as long as he stays on he's good but I don't he's gonna go slow for any reason a majority a young 13 Andy McDonald clocking in at 42 years of age so quite a spread right there looks like he is not kind of a problem finishing this race and winning it easy-peasy for Andy McDonald Evan Doherty bummer for him thought that hey he's going the distance and he's not in his 40s we have seen some hectic races so far but they're all exciting all right The Last Chance Qualifier coming up can these guys move on to the semi finals stick around and find out [Applause] welcome back earlier today at skater cross we had a high air contest and man these guys were boosting and they're doing off the second jump which seemed to be the best one for launching yourself high and here's Annie going above about seven feet their necks just work started yeah look Grayson steps up and Jeremy green goes for a huge backside 360 pulls it and you see Tom Shar up in the ante all the way up to 12 almost 11 and a half was topping it out there with Tom Shar big method shaky-shaky over all right the big important thing is Tom Shar won the high air event now we are into the last-chance qualifier round three see Tom Shar right there up against Josh Stafford the local boy [Music] right here they're neck-and-neck see that first berm sets people apart Oh No Josh Safford getting a little sideways looks like these guys are thinking ahead too much of what jumps coming instead of what's actually underneath them at that moment so Tom looking easily to cruise through this race here staffer just trying to get himself back in it but it's impossible at this point Tom sure whoa code for the hippie jump all right Tony what happened to Stafford here as he stacked I think he was looking too far ahead didn't realize he was gonna land on the top of that other jump and that just set him off Wow beavers you munchkin me versus you munchkin Grayson Fletcher pointing out to Evan Doherty that he looks like a mythical creature whoo yes double mythical creatures here in the start gate a majority right there 13 years old Grayson Fletcher bearded wonder here we go good so far whoa Grayson gone through the krail grab not really sure why it wasn't like he was gonna give me extra points or extra speed with that well that will mean that Grayson Fletcher is out this being the last-chance qualifier the last chance for these guys to find their way into the semis and we see right here Evan Doherty will have his birth in you see how these guys changed their body language when the other guy falls where it's just more okay I have to make this it's not a matter of like I got to go fast gotta go fast I love the Grayson always uses it as a chance to slide when he bails or a little flurry kick out with his back foot that's always hot okay back to the start here Willis Kimbo up against Ryan Sheckler this is gonna be a good race these guys who look like they're getting more serious as it goes on yeah it's all fun and games to that little gate drop Oh late start right looks like Ryan missed the gate a little bit now he's gonna hard time catching up but he's got some good landings all right here they go Ryan still trying to catch up and it looks like a little bit too hard of a lunch and you know Ryan has been battling a torn MCL and I think that's probably gonna do it for him well as he limps off right here Willis Kimball will cruise through the rest of this course and move on to the semis there you go winning by default last man standing Willis came out of the blocks in that one probably a couple of seconds faster than checks what do you put that down to I think he just caught some wind and fell behind me and I lucked out and now I get to go try this trio of smashing into each others in there out good luck you don't need it little foreshadowing from Willis there will be three people on course during the semi-final routes now Ryan Sheckler right there watch this slip pull that basically lost him the race final race here in the last-chance qualifier beaver Fleming up against Matt moister [Music] these guys both got good starts beaver on the right there oh and that is off the first gap beaver some little Superman flare to his run beaver no stranger to hitting big jumps as he's often found on the Nitro Circus tour flying off of huge kickers in front of thousands of people everyone kind of plays it safe through there when they're the last man standing because they just want to make to the finish line looks like beaver is going to win this one with a backflip a little victory flipper there I mean why wouldn't you do a victory flipper look at this action-packed here beaver Fleming is that the tomahawk and then straight in to the backflip check this out right here up and over the only go at they throw in trick scene yeah I don't know I mean I always watch motor you know Travis is obviously my hero and good friends with him so have to throw in speed and style if the other guy cuts out so got the Superman over the first one and then of the backflip at the end beaver don't care he's gonna do tricks alright the semi-finals are set we move from two people on the course at once to three cords you know still holding on to that fastest time but that don't mean nothing the first one across the finish line is gonna win this thing Tony we've seen some insane action go down so far I think we're gonna see even better action because three people on the course is pure chaos total chaos stick around the carnage is you have to come [Music] welcome back semi-finalists now we've upped the ante a little bit we're adding another person into the mix three men enter one man leaves it's kind of like a psychotic Thunderdome here on this skater cross course and these guys got to make sure they stay on their own lanes this time - there's a penalty for getting out of your lane on the first two berms so they got to keep that in mind which they haven't had to worry about too much lately but this first race here at will it's Kimble quarry Juno mat boy stur here we go Gord you know holding down the fastest time we've seen here on this course so look for him the far left to be the fastest one through this course I feel like it's just a matter of survival here especially when all three years that is what we're talking about with staying in your own lane Wow so just like that chords you know is eliminated as Willis Kimball just cruises down here through the outer portion of this course now for this extra person in the mix danger Flair Tony how would you fare with three people in this course um I can't really say to be honest that it's those turns that kill you and I think I would just be focused on my own lane but I would not be able to compensate if someone came into my life I think there is some some controversy with the judge let's see what happened here they come into the berms and you know what I think everyone was out of their Lane there's no one to blame there and it was just a matter of Willis being a survivor you see right here Matt boy stur out of his Lane Willis Kimball just threads the needle right here cord you know unfortunately eliminated so coming out of this one moving on to the finals will be a Willis Kimball and it's a learning lesson for all the other guys because they just watched the first three-man pileup and it's like alright so your guys turn let's do this they had to have a ruling on it because literally this is the first time this has ever been done so it's just us up for the second heat these guys know what they're coming into here Trey would Tom char Jeremy green I think the strategy is just to get ahead so you're not gonna crash in everyone it's a lot like BMX races look at that Trey just knows how to get speed off those jumps I mean he went lower than anyone and came out ahead sure he is just pulling pulling into the lead there the other guys are scrambling to keep up that's gonna do it that's right it looks like he's gonna walk with this one Tom Shaw right behind him char about to be eliminated tree wood moving on to the final and Trey would just got the fastest time of the day with thirty point five six seconds even there Trey got he got a low landing on the very beginning but he like I said he just knows those sweet spots on those jumps and those exactly where to land and pulls that ahead right from the beginning it's really not about big air in this course you got to suck up all these jumps and maximize your speed it's so moving back up here to the top the third and final round here in the semi final is beaver Fleming up against Evan Doherty one of the fastest guys on the course and the youngest up against the veteran and brainchild of this thing Andy McDonald they're all right on top of each other oh and he bails out it looks like Evan was taking the Highline there which is gonna cost him a lot in terms of distance but he could make it up right here but look at this speedy low there go and he's having a hard time their press is the only chance for having to catch up it's not gonna happen putting the pressure on beaver right here evan doherty but beaver will make it across the finish line first evan doherty is eliminated beaver fleming moving on to the final round Tony talk us through word all went wrong for him right there Andy got top heavy so he was gonna land too far leaning forward and a beaver went for the old tomahawk finish line alright the finals are set the big final coming up Trey woods up against Willis Kimball and Beaver Fleming there are the trophy is right there who is going to go home with the coveted inaugural skater cross trophy Tony this is going to be absolutely bonkers it is trey is the fastest so far today so as long as he stays on it's very likely he'll be the first one across the finish line but there has been some chaos through the berms so who knows what's gonna happen Willis Kimball and Beaver Fleming right there this is anybody's game it doesn't matter how fast you bend because that first corner is the equalizer here we go you can see they are all hyped good start from everyone all coming through oh it's gonna happen here whoa we've got a race Wow Willis Kimball is really trying to make up some ground here Trey is just on fire though Trey he's he's it's like the the chorus is second nature to him he knows exactly where to land he was where to take off he knows how to get speed on the little pockets and here's proof right here right at the end this is it this is to determine the winner and it's gonna be Trey what's going home with her trophy here in skate across as Willis Kimball comes in second and Beaver Fleming out the back end third I think Willis was trying to throw his board ahead just so it was board would win the race all right well talk us through this entire thing because man it was just chaos now it was a great last race though it really showed the potential of this whole event and right here even as Trey has has to take the high road there he can still come out ahead you know he's just got he's got that pump he's got that intuition about where to land and here's proof right there on that high jump Trey well it takes the win let's get a word with our winner from Corbin Trey wood taking that at you know that every time during the finals it was the middle guy that came through that was the only time that you won and you're on the outside line yeah it's pretty crazy going on the outside lane on three people but it was fun everyone stayed in the lane and you with a small let's go I'd say what's a lot being out there with guys like Willis Kimball well this is super gnarly but he's a gentle giant he shreds he's six skate with little legend congratulations on the win again all right so that wraps up the first ever skate across congratulations goes out to Trey with Tony I think this thing has a huge future yeah and congratulations to Auntie McDonald's weren't seeing it to fruition and all the other competitors for surviving some of the crashes absolutely Tony final thoughts on this event I think this is a great starting point and I believe this events
