what's up guys welcome to the sunnyvale skate park with me jb and today i'm going to teach you guys how to do an all leak the right way check it out all right guys so i want to go over something super important before we get into this ollie and that is before you start to do your ollie it's really really important that you spend time on your skateboard first you don't learn to jump before you walk so please spend time on your skateboard pushing carving kick turning stopping running off your skateboard those things are the basics that are going to get you comfortable on your skateboard and also earn your ollie it's a reward after you get those basic styles next we're going to go over the process of how to jump first you get your feet set up shoulder width apart you're going to get a nice deep bend in your knees keeping your head over your toes and right before you jump you're going to explode your power out of your legs throwing your body weight up springing off your toes by pushing your ankles down you're going to spring off the balls of your feet which are right here and as you jump up into the air you're going to pull your knees up under your chest keeping your head over top of your body very similar steps with your ollie the next thing i want you to do is to create a visual guide where to place your feet on your board for your ollies so the front foot is going to be just behind the second bolts okay front bolts second bolts and now i'm going to trace my feet using a skate tool this way you don't have to spend much time setting up you can look down make sure your feet are in those spots and practice your ollie in my 20 plus years of teaching people how to skate and how to do ollies i find that a nice low fence just like this is perfect it allows you to focus on how you do your ollie to learn the proper technique without the fear of falling so the first thing i want you to do is put your feet in their spots so i'm going to bend down spring off of my back foot and i use my toes and my ankle my back foot to push down then down pop hard off that back foot your goal for this is simply to get those back wheels off the ground you should be focusing on your pop and getting a nice powerful press through your back foot to get your board to pop up off the ground next this is where the magic happens as you pop your goal is going to be to slide your front foot up as you drag your front foot up it's going to catch the nose in the concave remember the concave sweet spot right here your front foot is going to slide up catch that and that's what lifts your back wheels up to level your skateboard so ultimately the higher you can pop up and get those front wheels up then level your skateboard that determines how high your ollie is so as i do my ollie i pop and if i mess up i can lean over the fence and catch myself also when you lean over the fence as you pop it gives you a little bit of moon gravity and you have more time to spot your landing and how you land so that you feel safe and confident once you land on the ground once you guys put in a bunch of tries on flat ground or on the fence next you're going to want to do this rolling in order to do that you're going to get a nice gentle push on a nice clean surface no sticks no rocks no cracks that way you can focus on your technique the faster you're rolling the more you need to pop and lean forward okay so if you're going really really fast you're gonna spring harder off that back foot leaping forward as you get better at your ollie and you wanna get it higher and clearer obstacles you're gonna do this by springing harder off your back foot and to get a higher jump you're going to bend down throw your body weight up spring hard out of that ankle leaping up and forward the more you lean forward is the more you catch that front foot dragging in the concave lifting those back wheels up and over the obstacle landing knees bent in my opinion ollies are the most fun and useful trick to get around obstacles whether it be in the street or the skate park so keep practicing them don't let yourself get frustrated focus on the technique where your feet are where your body is keeping your head over your feet nice big pop sliding that front foot forward nice smooth landing head over the board as you get better your technique will get better please subscribe to that video like my video and i'll keep making more for you guys thanks for watching another edition of skatepark lessons
