um dear brothers and sisters for those who just came in uh this is a repeat announcement the there will be no collection during mars today uh we will place the collection baskets at the main entrance and the side entrances thank you as we begin the season of lent it is once again the time for us to tone down our selfish lives to spend time for restoration through fasting almsgiving and prayer it will be challenging but we can do everything through christ who strengthens us through the holy spirit to face the temptations that come to turn us away from god and neighbor let us diligently seek him in everything we do [Music] [Music] upon the lord we will wait upon us [Music] in me you lift us up for these [Music] you're the [Music] back [Music] in the name of the father and of the son and of the holy spirit amen the grace of our lord jesus christ love of god and the communion of the holy spirit be with you all and with your spirit dear sisters and brothers let us acknowledge our sins and so prepare ourselves to celebrate the sacred mysteries i confess to almighty god and to you my brothers and sisters that i have greatly sinned in my thoughts and in my words in what i have done conduct pursue their effects through christ our lord amen a reading from the book of deuteronomy moses said to the people the priests shall take the panel from your hand and lay before the altar of the lord your god then in the sight of the lord your god you must make this pronouncement my father was a wandering aramian he went down into egypt to find refuge there few in numbers but there he became a nation great mighty and strong the egyptians ill-treated us they gave us no peace and inflicted harsh slavery on earth but we called on the lord the god of our fathers the lord heard our voice and saw our misery our toil and our oppression and the lord brought us out of egypt with mighty hand and outstretched arm with great terror and with signs and wonders he brought us here and gave us this land a land where milk and honey flow here then i bring the first fruits of the produce of the soil that you lord have given me you must then lay them before the lord your god and bow down in [Music] oh [Music] a reading from the letter of saint paul to the romans scripture says the word that is the faith we proclaim is very near to you it is on your lips and in your heart if your lips confess that jesus is lord and if you believe in your heart that god raised him from the dead then you will be saved by believing from the heart you are made righteous by confessing with your lips you are saved when scripture says those who believe in him will have no cause for shame it makes no distinction between jew and greek all belong to the same lord who is rich enough however many may ask for his help for everyone who calls on the name of the lord will be saved the word of the lord [Music] glory to you lord jesus christ glory to you r [Music] live jesus bread alone but on every word that comes from the mouth of god lord [Music] jesus christ [Music] the lord be with you and with your spirit a reading from the holy gospel according to saint luke glory to you o lord filled with the holy spirit jesus left the jordan and was led by the spirit through the wilderness being tempted there by the devil for 40 days during that time he ate nothing and at the end he was hungry then the devil said to him if you are the son of god tell this stone to turn into a loaf but jesus replied scripture says man does not live on bread alone then leading him to the height the devil showed him in a moment of time all the kingdoms of the world and said to him i'll give you all this power and the glory of these kingdoms for it has been committed to me and i give it to anyone i choose worship me then and it will be yours but jesus answered him scripture says you must worship the lord your god and serve him alone then he led him to jerusalem and made him stand on the parapet of the temple if you are the son of god he said to him throw yourself down from here for scripture says he will put his angels in charge of you to guard you and again they will hold you on their hands in case you hurt your foot against a stone but jesus answered him it has been told you must not put the lord your god to the test having exhausted all these ways of tempting him the devil left him to return at the appointed time the gospel of the lord jesus christ we have come here to worship god and it happens to be the first sunday in lent it's a period of change in us we are asking god to help us to be faithful to him in the first reading we call this the confessions of the jewish people while they were in the desert and while they were in the promised land they always fall back who are we our father was a wandering armenian that is abraham and we were migrating and we went to egypt there we suffered then you delivered us and you brought us that was your confession on what god did for them in a very personal way the second reading it doesn't speak of the sufferings of jesus but it goes on to say who are you you are the one who have been raised to new life because christ has been risen and christ has saved you and because of that you are able to call christ the lord yes we take it for granted i say lord or say christmas and it is coming from conviction from a relationship like the jewish people they and their god like what is our faith in relationship to christ we didn't have the liturgical entrance him and very fitting entrance him taken from psalm 90 or 91 and it shows a relationship between god and us and the text says when he calls to me god is shaking when he calls his chosen one for i will answer then he carries on i will deliver him i will give him glory i will grant him length of days when he calls me that's the god we are worshiping and now at this lenten season we are calling him calling him to help us to be able to live our dignity and what is our dignity in the old testament they had been delivered by yahweh in the new testament we have been saved by the death and resurrection of christ and through this we have become the children of god that's our dignity and now i'm crying to god to help me to live my status when i call him that yes lenten season will be crowded with all sort of penance and prayers and all but basically what are we calling for that i will be able to live my true self as a child of god a child of god because god chose me he sent his son because of his love for me and that son died for me because of his love and now true baptism i have accepted that son true baptism i'm acknowledging yes god has saved me and so now i'm crying oh lord hear my voice that i'll be faithful to you and the gospel text speaks of temptation yes all of us are being tempted to go away from our dignity and fall into our selfishness our pride our anger our hatred our violence yes we might not be tempted asking let the stone be turned to loaves of bread we might not be put on the pinnacle of this church and tell jam and proof you are the disciple no our temptation comes in the way we are living and asking us don't follow the right path and it varies from person to person so going back to the entrance antiphon here when he calls god is saying when he calls i will answer so let us not be discouraged many many of us were saying i'm trying my best i'm falling what did jesus say to the disciples if you love me take up your cross and follow me as i said quite often from this pulpit the cross is not one disaster in the family that are bad no the cross is my struggle to be faithful to the dignity that has been given to me through baptism and falling short of it so jesus is telling us take that challenge and keep following it's not saying it's all over no jesus words take up your cross and follow so the assurance that he is there at the end of the tunnel to receive me and he is there when i'm the tunnel groping the dog helping me to go to the end of the tunnel the tunnel of life i believe in one god the father almighty maker of heaven and earth of all things visible and invisible i believe in one lord jesus christ the only begotten son of god born of the father before all ages god from god light from light to god from sugar begotten not made consubstantial with the father to him all things were made for us men for our salvation he came down from heaven and by the holy spirit was incarnate of the virgin mary and became man for our sake he was crucified under pontius pilate he suffered death and was buried and rose again on the third day in accordance with the scriptures he ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the father he will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead and his kingdom will have known i believe in the holy spirit the lord the giver of life who proceeds from the father and the son who with the father and the son is a lord and glorified who has spoken through the prophets i believe in one holy catholic and apostolic church i confess one baptism for the forgiveness of sinners and i look forward to the resurrection of the dead and the life of the world to come amen united as one body of christ let us offer our petition to god our father as we begin the season of lent we give thanks to god the father for this time of grace let us ask him to cleanse our hearts and strengthen us in love through the holy spirit we pray to the lord lord hear our prayer lord your word is life may our lives be nourished and sustained by every word you speak we pray to the lord lord hear our prayer we pray that all youths will experience god's power to overcome temptations and the ways of the world and be his witnesses through their words and actions we pray to the lord lord hear our friend as we celebrate international women's day on the 8th of march we pray that women will be treated with respect dignity and equality and appreciated for their countless sacrifices and achievements we pray to the lord r lord hear our prayer we pray for a peaceful resolution and an end to the ongoing russian and ukraine conflict we pray to the lord r lord hear our prayer let us now in silence pray for our personal intentions we pray to the lord lord hear our prayer we stand before you holy spirit as we gather together in your name with you alone to guide us make yourself at home in our hearts teach us the way we must go and how we are to pursue it we are weak and sinful do not let us promote this order to not let ignorance lead us down the wrong path not partially influence our actions let us find in you our unity so that we may journey together to eternal life and not stray from the right of truth and what is right all this he consecrated through this fast the pattern of our lantern observance and by overturning all the snares of the ancient serpent taught us to cast out the leaven of manners so that celebrating worthily the paschal mystery we might pass over at last to the eternal paschal feast and so with all the company of angels and saints we sing the hymn of your glory as we proclaim [Music] god [Music] oh broke it and gave it to his disciples saying take this all of you and eat of it for this is my body which will be given up for you in a similar way when supper was ended he took the chalice and once more giving thanks he gave it to his disciples saying take this all of you and drink from it for this is the chalice of my blood the blood of the new and eternal covenant which will be poured out for lord the bread of life and the chalice of salvation giving thanks that you have held us worthy to be in your presence and minister to you humbly we pray that partaking of the body and blood of christ we may be gathered into one by the holy spirit remember lord your church spread throughout the world bring her to the fullness of charity together with is our pope sebastian our bishop the clergy and all the people who are suffering both in ukraine and russia due to this war among themselves remember also our sisters and brothers who have fallen asleep in the hope of the resurrection and all who have died in your mercy welcome them into the light of your face have mercy on us all we pray that with the blessed virgin mary mother of god with blessed joseph her spouse with the blessed apostles and all the saints who have pleased you throughout the ages we may merit to be co as to eternal life and may praise and glorify you to your son jesus christ through him and with him and in him o god almighty father in the unity of the holy spirit all glory and honor is yours forever and ever amen as we say the lord's prayer let us be united with all the people throughout the world who are praying for peace in europe at the moment our father who art in heaven hallowed be thy name thy kingdom come thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven give us this day our bloody bread and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us and lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil deliver us lord we pray from every evil graciously grant peace in our days that by the help of your mercy we may be always free from sin and saved from all distress as we await the blessed hope and the coming of our savior jesus the power christ the glory are yours now and forever lord will be in the bulletin later on and for the chs creative weekend we would like to invite adele call to say a few words hi everyone i'm adele i'm the head of the music ministry in chs and i would like to extend this invitation for everyone to join the creative weekend 2022 so what this weekend is actually about is for those who who has talents growing in them and they want to channel it to serve in church but are not sure of how they want to go about it so from my experience like i started joining ministry about 15 years ago and it's actually because of ministry it has helped me become a better public speaker before this i cannot speak in public i'm very scared but like a better public speaker a better overall musician and has helped me be able to serve my church with the talents that god has given me and i'm sure each and every one of you has talent somewhere and if you have the inkling to want to join this uh to join church and not sure how to do it this is the way uh this is the weekend that you can come for it's not only covers music and singing it also has projection like live streaming media even reporting writing commentating lecture all those things even photography so any one everyone is welcome especially those age 14 and above until age 100 100 203 and anything so this is uh it happens 19th and 20th of march the qr code is on the screen you can uh scan in and register there but of course you know telling about all these things is not as effective as actually hearing testimonies of people who have been serving and how they have um they have grown so i have invited nicole yo from jy to share a little bit about how ministry has touched her hi everyone my name is nicole and i'm part of the altar service ministry as well as cantor and jy worship team as a small kid i was pretty outgoing full of curiosity and always wanting to try new things i guess you can say that this curiosity of mine really helped me get more involved in church i even remember the first time i felt a strong passion towards singing and that was when i joined the jy caroling alongside my big sister it was the first time where i wasn't just singing alone in my room or in the back seat while my dad was driving me to school but in a room filled with people that shared the same passion to bring the love of god to others through their voices one thing led to another and i thank god that i am now able to sing for him and glorify him in many different ministries this creative weekend could be your first experience in helping you discover something you're passionate in whether it's music photography writing media live streaming these two days will allow you to showcase your talents to the church and eventually to the outside world i truly believe that this creative weekend is one of the best stepping stones you can offer yourselves during this weekend you could even find yourself meeting new people new faces that share the same talent as you or ones that have different talents either way you're set for a good time in learning more about yourselves and more about others and how you could use your talents to give glory to god so in a way church is like a closed door and beyond this closed door are different opportunities for us to showcase our talents that god has given us i have already taken my first step in opening my door and this creativity weekend is a door that i invite you to open up and step through and for you to find different opportunities you have that await you beyond your door all you need to do is take that first step so the choice is definitely yours to make you can either keep your talents hidden or locked away or you could use it to give glory and place to god thank you [Music] so [Music] just to recap the reason why the parish
