the National Broadcasting Company presents the National Football League [Music] today from the Los Angeles Coliseum it's the Denver Broncos versus the Los Angeles Raiders [Music] brought to you live bug light everything else is just a life by BMW the ultimate driving machine to arrange a thought the newest BMW dealers and by RC a technology that excites the senses this is one of the truly great sites in sports a sellout crowd at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum more than 92,000 and the standings in the West showing the importance of this game between the Denver Broncos and the Los Angeles Raiders the Raiders have won five straight Denver leads in the West as we start the second half of this exciting NFL season the Raiders won the toss here they'll be receiving there's the head coach of the Denver Broncos Dan Reid and Tom Floyd's the mentor of the Raiders and rich Carlos will kick off and look at this they have not spent a season in 1978 the teams [Applause] so Los Angeles will go to work from their own 21 yard line first down Mark Wilson is the quarterback Marcus Allen is a live and well joining Frank Hawkins is a running back Barksdale along with Doki Williams and of course the tight in is Todd Christensen that offensive line for the Raiders Davis Hanna host bar Marvin and Henry Long's this is Charlie Jones along with Merlin Olsen in the Coliseum [Applause] the right side is been a thorn in the side of the Broncos every time they play Wilson opens up he goes deep man [Applause] Charlie they put Barksdale in purposely to try and stretch a defense and he's been decoyed several times in the early parts of games not a decoy here as Mark Wilson airs it out throws it as far as he can that's Dennis Smith the strong saftey who finally ran him down but boy what an explosive way to start a ballgame and Barksdale and Arizona track star had a 10 - best time 100 meters and that converged to the fact that he can fly and here's Marcus bumbles [Applause] and there's joy from pushing and shoving and some grabbing at the bottom of the staff they're still unstacking and if that is a turnover for Denver it would be the first take away it is the first take away they did not take the ball away against the Jets they went all through the game against Seattle last week without taking the football away and suddenly they're right back into it Cragen ends up with the football let's go look at the blocking at the line Christensen and Lawrence 46 and 70 and here comes Marcus Allen looks like he just turned to loose when he was trying to get across there I believe it was Steve Foley that reached in number 43 reached in and ripped at that football which is something that Broncos do very well shook it loose and of course the Broncos having Denver at their own 32 yard line first down no score [Applause] rod Martin was Jayceon picked up up to down and ate Elway was Sammy winder and Gerald Wilhite Johnson Watson where's Kay the tight in a great blocker coming on as a receiver offensive line the big change is at left guard and lipfird hood is starting there for Keith Bishop but had a fine game in relief last week against the Seattle Seahawks second in two at the 34-yard line to the 2nd and 8th after a gain of two [Applause] [Music] going to be third down against this defense of the Raiders let's take a look at it and Greg towns is starting for how he long how he got with a hamstring of Merlin you talked to him and he not afraid he might tear it up and mr. Estes McHale and Jones the poor linebackers to the basic set Robinson Matt Millen McKenzie and rod Marquis and in the secondary Mike Haynes is back starting on the right side joining Lester days to ran and McElroy [Applause] talk about the physical nature of defensive football at something the Raiders emphasized they'll get a shot right here as Watson reaches for that football number 28 van McElroy reaches with a helmet for Steve Watson Watson I am amazed that those receivers will continue to come to the inside and stretch out for that football watch out here Charlie Norman had one blocked although it was called back for a penalty last week you got to believe the Raiders are gonna come after him to let him know they're not afraid to rush him either miss Gorman kicking too folks and Walker [Applause] they got what they wanted the bad kick out of Norman who knew that if he didn't punch it out of there quick it was going to be blocked let's take a quick look at that rush watch them now as they are coming with a gangbusters kind of rush that's Townsend 93 and Lyndon King 52 the men closest to it he barely got that football away 26 yards on the punt of course no return but the Raiders will have excellent field position charlie the temperature could be a real factor today when the Broncos the left home yesterday it was 28 degrees and snowing turn those numbers around here it's 82 and even hotter than that on the floor of the Coliseum and we would like to welcome those of you have been watching the you should Miami game of Miami of 28 to 7 here we have no score between Denver and the Raiders as Marcus Allen carries from the Los Angeles 38 to the 40 so he picks up two early second down eight Marcus with a fumble on the first drive of the Los Angeles Raiders defensively it is Jones Kragen and towns in for the Denver Broncos with Ryan Mecklenburg Hundley and Jackson the linebackers and in the secondary right harden Smith and Foley we're gonna mark it at the 39 yard line so it is second down and nine [Applause] the Raiders opened up with a deep pass to Barksdale over 43 yards [Applause] Todd Christensen Dennis Smith makes the tackle 16 yards to the Denver 45 when you can start with a deep pass as the Raiders did by sending Barksdale deep he began to stretch a defense you forced them to move back and give you some room and no one in my estimation there's not a better tight end in the league at finding a way to get open than Todd Christensen he knows how to use his body and work you and of course has an excellent pair of hands to go with first intent of the Broncos 45 no story and here's Marcus to the 43 it'll be second down and eight Greg Cragen the nose tackle is the man who makes the stop coming into this game the Raiders tied with Kansas City in Seattle with records of five and three starting the second half denver of course leading the West seven and one the Raiders cannot afford to lose this team that cannot afford to drop another game behind the Broncos well and the other are conversely Charlie if they can win this game they know that Denver has a killer schedule in the last half of the season and that would put them actually ahead of Denver in terms of record within the division and record within the conference and from Denver side of course that they can win today they can pretty well eliminate the Raiders of the race in the West and here's Marcus Allen left little stutter step around the corner leads forward to the 38 he'll have about five going to be third down and three I think I said that they would be ahead they would be equal in the division in the conference let's check the games in progress and these are the early games the Giants up three on Dallas in the fourth quarter New England leading and Cincinnati leading Detroit that was tied just a moment ago at 17 apiece Cleveland out in front of the coats Houston losing to Miami and New Orleans upset to San Francisco this bird defeating Green Bay is expected in a pair of fourth-quarter scores the Tampa Bay in front of Buffalo and st. Louis edging Philadelphia in the fourth quarter here we have no score Denver and the Raiders Mark Wilson back to 12 with pressure [Applause] or there are some real battles going on down there let's look at what they were doing to Todd Christensen on that last play Christiansen coming off from his tight end post gets into traffic here that's Dennis Smith 49 so just does a wrap-up on him and they go to the ground he may have been the intended receiver for that pass but quickly the Broncos have done something they've not been able to do in the last two weeks and that is take the football away from their opponents and 23 yards on the return by Mike Hardy through the 48 yard line Bronco Territory we're back live and here is Gerald [Applause] football today an indication perhaps Charlie of the emotional level of these two teams and sometimes when you're really tight when you're trying to do too much that's when that ball squirts loose that ball just bouncing out of there couldn't see exactly what happened to it but you'd expect with that many Raiders in there that someone had a hat or an arm or a shoulder on that football and we believe in his Greg Townsend who caused the fumble stations round of courses the man who did recover it Raiders have the ball at home 46 yard line first down still no score between Denver and Los Angeles [Applause] Wilson with protection stands in throws it is incomplete going to Todd Christensen is tied in and now for an update let's go to New York in Bob Costas Charlie after a pass interference call inside the five the Bengals are knocking at the door and Larry Ken Abreu cannot be stopped he goes in from the one with 40 seconds remaining now the game has ended and Cincinnati wins at the Silverdome 2417 I thank you Bob here in the sunshine of Southern California the temperature climbing through the 80s we have no score Denver and the Raiders and it is second down and 10 for Los Angeles at their own 46 yard line Marcus Allen runs into Simon Fletcher who was standing there waiting for him and wrapped him up trying to cut back against the grain the Denver Broncos under Joe Collier will use as many as 50 different looks in a ballgame and they try and confuse you on that line of scrimmage in particular by moving their people around and jumping them around and you were talking to Carl Mecklenburg he said to you I don't know if why I'm always there but I seem to be there but there's a reason that there is that the part of the reason is that man right there Joe Collier and he and his staff design setups that keep Mecklenburg from being in a position where he's easily blocked third down and 11 he's trying to duct it forward Hawkins finally makes the tackle a screamer for a total of 14 yards on the play to the Denver 41 and that's converting on a third and 11 dan Reeves say hey where the team is supposed to have the scrambling quarterback Mark Wilson did an excellent job getting away from the pressure and then knowing that he could not make that first down running watch him as he'll just flip a little forward pass here to Hawkins right there just little straight passed not much on it and Frank Hawkins knows how to get away from people breaks a tackle right there to pick up the first down - religious at Denver 41 still no score we're in the opening quarter is Marcus Allen and the block code defense is there this time led by Jim Ryun Marcus Allen is still having problems with that ankle Charlie and now we'd like to welcome those of you who have been watching the Cincinnati Detroit game with Cincinnati winning them by a score of 24 to 17 and here in the Coliseum the score is Denver nothing and the Raiders nothing just over seven and a half minutes left to go in the first quarter second down in 12 at the 43 of the Bronco [Applause] it is [Applause] the Broncos have gone six games now with five sacks or more in a game but they are able to hold him out here and keep him protected long enough to get that pass off to doki williams i watch it at the end of this play dokie goes to the ground and ball in the air but recovered by the raiders so really doesn't matter here comes the heat mecklenburg 77 and Cragen inside or Townsend 61 inside a little bit of a hang up there by 79 Bruce Davis as he turned Mecklenburg away to get Marc a chance to throw that football and the gain of 23 yards to the Denver 20-yard line where the Raiders have a first down and we have a temporary officials timeout and that means we have this opportunity to welcome those of you who've been watching the Cleveland Indian appleís games the Browns defeating the coach by a score of 24 to 9 no score 658 left to go first quarter the Denver Broncos and the Los Angeles Raiders the Broncos Charlie have taken the ball away twice already from the Raiders once they gave it right back and the other time they couldn't get a drive started so they have not been able to capitalize on a couple of early opportunities so far in this game Joseph [Applause] Parker that idea a gain of seven to the 14-yard line a gain of six and have you second down and four as Tom Jackson makes the tackle so now Merlin 13 offensive plays for the Raiders seven passes and the other six rushes by Marcus Allen but you're going up against a defense that plays very tough against the run they were number one in the league against the running game until last week Kurt Warner averaged six point six yards per carry on them but they they are much tougher against the running game traditionally than they are against the Pasadena that is Andy Parker's second lifetime reception the National Football League [Applause] effort by Marcus Allen much Marcus says he stretches for this first down I'll tell you just an amazing player he and Elway both the kind of players who can make something out of nothing that play is dead there except for Allen's ability to change direction and then to control his body well enough to fall forward I think knowing full well what he had to get for that first down report on rueland Jones a strained left knee they think he can return to the lineup would be a blow if he can't sacks on the season and it's the first down at the 10 yard line Marcus spins to the 9 maybe the 8 yard line Johnson makes the stop for the Broncos along with Mecklenburg one of the things that Denver does defensively is to roll a lot of people in and out of the game in fact they really have 20 people you see three coming on four players coming on now Joe Collier really has 20 people that he considers to be starters in that defense I don't think anyone will use more people you see him jogging he hit that exercising folks he's sending in a signal from the sidelines that's the defense he wants you know liners in his security blanket well I think the PlayBook that jokaah here is his security blanket that he always carries with him at the nine second down his goal to go just about to the seven yard line where it's going to be third down and goal to go Kendall Woodard makes the tackle any time Marcus Allen starts to the outside you've got to be concerned about him but very good quickness on the part of the Bronco defense they're very quick inside and at linebacker they were out there to meet him well the most important third down situations early in this ball game because if the Bronco defense can turn them away the Raiders have to settle for the field go [Applause] points on the board right here Charlie it's all started was Stacey Turan recovering the fumble his pressure [Applause] 13 mark.wilson is not blessed with a kind of elusiveness that a john elway has although we saw him mated make an excellent move earlier but he can't get away from Townsend here Andre Townsend stripping him down from the backside that's going to make a much longer field goal for Chris bar and it's windy here today not usually windy in the Coliseum but the wind is puffing here today from 38 yards away Chris Barr who has hit 12 or 14 this year [Applause] and the Raiders boob in front of Denver by a score of three to nothing with 319 to go in the first quarter and when you think of few goals in these two teams let's go back to last year and overtime [Applause] to overtime third down situation and crisp are looking to end it from 32 yards away here it is [Applause] for a first place [Applause] the Raiders go home ten and four first place in the West belongs to Tom's Laurie's silver and black the voices of Marv Albert and Dick Enberg and when these two teams have matched it up over the last six contests I mean it's it always comes down to a field goal or less it's been a strange and highly competitive season Charlie and of course the game earlier this year in Denver won by the Broncos 38 to 36 in a wild shootout so they continued on that course this year as well and from the early goings here we can expect the same kind of day-to-day and something else in the last six games the team that has led at halftime has lost the game that is a strange stat that's not one you would expect to see well Mark Wilson so far able to have more opportunities by far than Elway Elway really looking to his first major opportunity to get going here by kicking off with Lange in Bell deep and it has taken at the 3 yard line on the return by Ken Bell [Applause] the original signal was at Denver and recovered let's see if the official pointed the wrong way [Applause] dan Reeves on the sidelines let's go back and look at the play can Belle the rookie getting great pressure here as he heads up into traffic 56 Jeff Barnes put his helmet right on the ball and I believe that might be construed as an illegal bat right by Indy Parker you're right Parker just stood up and whacked that football here's another look at it after the fumble watch this shot as number 56 Jeff Barnes just put that helmet right on the football Tom Jackson 57 had a shot at it and that's volleyball there and there is a flag down as the Raiders have recovered the ball that's Vance Muller number 42 the rookie taken in the fourth round of the draft out of Occidental but will go back to the penalty flag well and the Denver Broncos pointing toward the Raiders but let's see what happened on the play Jerris even the referee with a god during a fumble in the direction of their goal line so there's a penalty on Los Angeles since it was during the loose ball Denver will retain the ball decision is that the illegal fat took place while the ball had not been into possession was not yet in the possession of the Raiders so they're going to give the ball back to the Denver Broncos a costly penalty there's the bat again Andy Parker goes up and swats the ball toward his own goal line and the Raiders did not possess the ball at that time it was a free ball so the ball they'll mark off the penalty and give it back to the Denver Broncos and Denver has dodged another big bullet here early the kind of breaks that Denver got in their game against Seattle last week a couple of big special teams plays for example that block punt that went in for the touchdown called back on a penalty to give Denver an opportunity to win that game and already some sloppy special teams play has been reversed by a call here so Denver has to be concerned and Reeves is concerned about the sharpness of his team he said we're simply not playing the kind of football we need to be playing at this time of the season now Jerry seaman the referee is explaining the call to Tom Flores the head coach the Los Angeles Raiders and there was no question that it was an illegal bat and no question that there was no possession when it happened you saw Flores he didn't argue the often and and the call is right but it's a costly call and it's an unusual call really it's very obvious that's when you see about once every four or five years and there's the culprit Andy Parker well I'm sure he was trying to do what he thought was right in the heat of battle notice the conversation with Dan Reeves much shorter he doesn't need an explanation all he wants to do is I've got the ball here it is the illegal bat and there's no way to construe what he was doing you can't say he was reaching for the ball and so Denver first down trailing Raina nothing three minutes ago first quarter [Applause] the second back Sammy one pickup of about six it'll be second down and four as Matt Millen makes the tackle one thing the Denver Broncos are doing this year is running the football more effectively and we'd like to welcome those of you who have been watching the Buffalo Tampa Bay game Buccaneers winning at 34 to 28 and here at the Raiders in front of the Broncos three nothing second and five with pressure and he [Applause] let's check the scores it's a final the Giants defeating Dallas by three in the fourth quarter New England out in front of Atlanta and here are other finals with Cleveland Miami and Laura is upsetting San Francisco Green Bay losers Tampa Bay wins [Applause] and 14 all the way over the middle the bass is complete it will come up short of the first down as will hide on the receiving end is pointing about three yards shy of the first down on a pickup of eleven as Jeff Barnes makes [Applause] but the Raiders are playing defensively without Howie long now he strained a hamstring last week and said hey if you want me to play I'll play but there's great concern that if he plays today he might reinjure that hamstring and be out for the rest of the year so far they're putting good heat on Denver without Howie in the lineup and this is one of the man they put it they put the heat on Chris Norman his first punt good for only 26 yards they're sending everybody again they'll come after him bad kick the first time around and here they come [Applause] sure they get away it is short Fulton Walker will let it roll it takes a Bronco roll to about the 21 yard line of the Los Angeles Raiders Rickey Hundley down with a carriage 43 yards on the kick and the row Raiders lead it back in a moment teen seconds to play at the Meadowlands Rafael SEP DN 62 yard field goal attempt for the Cowboys is short the Giants with the help of 181 yards rushing in two touchdowns by Joel morris prevail 1714 thank you Bob here at the Coliseum to score the Los Angeles Raiders 3 in the Denver Broncos nothing the sun is shining in Southern California in a sellout crowd of more than 92,000 on hand the ball at the 22-yard line the Raiders in their own territory testers showing motion Wilson's fast complete - Marcus Allen a gain of about five yards on the play it'll be second down in five Ken Woodard with the tackle New England 25 Atlanta 17 that is a final and how the games just underway with ours the Jets trailing Seattle that is in the Kingdome San Diego with the new coach in front of Kansas City to nothing and Washington leading by three over Minnesota [Applause] here's Marcus turns away it's a good move what a lot of yard is there and he got it all got as much as he cut and as you watch him walk back to the huddle I asked him about his ankle he said you know why is it to my ankle hurts so much when I'm walking back to the huddle he said I the minute I grab that football there's no pain at all that's one of the things that made you the athlete you are we've got a timeout that is the end of the first quarter and the Raiders leave this baby'll leader sits the venomous and just the last five years is this a home-field advantage for them today certainly an advantage to have this many people here have have them that noisy but this stadium is open so that the noise is not right on you when you're on the field and also you got a track so you don't feel that crowd like you do in a place like Denver I think the Broncos at home have a much greater home-field advantage than the Raiders at all because they not only have a very noisy crowd and a noisy Stadium they also have weather and altitude working for them and also very knowledgeable crowd they know when to be noise Los Angeles at their own 32 yard line leading three to nothing courtesy of the 38 yard field goal by Chris bar as we start the second quarter the temperature in the eighties Wilson to throw he goes [Applause] Jessie Hester so it'll be second down in ten the ball at the 32 yard line and if you were with us at the beginning of the telecast the readers did the same thing as we check out the statistics that is they went deep yet to really see a bunch of exposure for John Elway he's only got three yards passing it's really only a handful of place they've only been on the field 329 to 11 31 for the Raiders who dominated the football really a lot of turnovers and a lot of missed opportunities for the Broncos on the other hand the Raiders have been able to get it themselves on the board but only for three points second and 10 from the 32 here's Marcus Allen and the flag goes down let's go back to the time of possession they don't remember a ballclub in the opening quarter having that little time you know maybe four or five minutes but just over three minutes Broncos have been a team that's been able to control the football and have been able to consistently the ball ate they certainly prefer horse as we all would having the football you'll need to use our hands to the face number 71 defense first Gregg breakin the nose tackle of the Denver Broncos we mentioned the jumping around that goes on on the line and sometimes when you're shifting from one position to another you crowd that ball too much and I think that's what happened to Cragen on that last play Broncos will move to people in particular around a great deal Karl Mecklenburg 77 and Rulon Jones number 75 and they'd love to get those two guys together and stunt them they create so many problems for you at the 40-yard line Raiders in their own territory first down Wilson has pressure slips away now he's got time and he goes to his tithing time close to the first down now let's go to New York in Bob Costas Charlie the Patriots are now six and three and this 59 yard punt return at Foxborough today helped them to a 2517 win over the Falcons in addition the kicking of Tony Franklin was a big factor he was four for four on field goal tries back to Charlie and Merlin thank you Bob and by the way every chance to tell you what he did a great job at the real series I really enjoyed all of the announcers and particularly Bob's work and one of the toughest things of always being there winning that final two games just ultramatic games dramatic games Charlie as they're marking that ball you can see it's close to a first down but no first down for the graders here let's go back and look we talked about the shifting of the defensive line now watch as as Wilson comes up he'll start to call his audible you see how they're moving inside trying to give him a different picture and very often else they'll make it that kind of move and then just before the snap they'll move again very difficult to try and figure out who might go to block through you by the block here's Wilson back to throw over the middle into a crowd and Christensen pulls it down Christenson the number two receiver in the national football league behind out tune of the Jets and he has the first down one of the reasons that you saw that pass thrown quickly is that the raiders anticipate that they're going to have a lot of heat they're going to have people coming after them and on the far side of the field they've got Karl Mecklenburg on the sideline a thigh injury deep bruise against the Jets two weeks ago and he's concerned about that but he also got a whack on the head out there so they're checking him out on the sidelines Steve and innopolis the trainer over there we'll sit a little play action he's that pressure he goes down [Applause] I think maybe a late hit Jim Ryan number 50 the man had the quarterback clearly down and Greg it may have come in too late facemask five-yard penalty only number 71 defense we it will still be first down take a peek and see if we can see it now you'll see from the right-hand side number 50 breaking clean and Denver does that so often they have a way of getting people in there and there you saw the reach right there Cragen reaching and knowing that he's done it he's why did I do that he was going to the ground but they do get the sack for the statistics that is their second loss of five in the five yard penalty brings it back to the 41 or his first thing and here's Marcus Allen the slip says he makes his turn still scrambles to the 36 that's five it'll be second and five where Steve Wilson makes the tackle and a quick reminder to our viewers that we'll be selecting the Budweiser Most Valuable Player for today's game at the conclusion of the game [Applause] 12:23 in counting that is the time remaining in the first half the Raiders leading Denver by a score of three to nothing [Applause] [Music] Marcus [Applause] Amen that time the Raiders countered by sending Marcus outside he'll take a little dip right there and then just use his speed to get all the way to the outside and down that sideline picking up the first down of valuable yardage and making Joe Collier on the sidelines scratch his head what do we do now because when Marcus can get outside of you that way he can really give you fits not only the only running back to gain 100 yards this year against the Broncos he also yet 102 yards rushing at 102 yards receiving in that ballgame just inside the 20 Napoleon McAllen comes in as Marcus takes a breather and we'll check the games in progress in the National Football League in the second quarter Seattle leading the Jets San Diego in Kansas City the new the AL Saunders the new head coach at San Diego in Kansas City had to say why me why don't you wait one more week and Minnesota leading watch of the Vikings are for real second in seven and he is wrapped up after a gain of a yard on the play now let's go to New York and Bob Costas Charlotte the new Seattle quarterback is Gale Gilbert in relief of David Craig and look at this against the rush he lost one to Daryl Turner who makes the catch over Johnny Lynn for 27 yards now just seconds ago ken O'Brien throws a 50-yarder to Altoona and the Jets reclaim the lead at 10 7 the Broncos can lay claim to having put Dave Greg on the bench last week fourth quarter was -21 in passing when he finally left the game [Music] the front-wheel drive Dodge Merlin Olsen 10:39 is the time remaining in the first half and look at the time of possession thus far and the volume the Broncos have had the ball only three minutes and 29 seconds well that's the best way to take care of any offense you don't let them have a chance to get on the football field and of course they have been assisted in that by by one Denver turnover but the Raiders have turned it over twice to them and the Broncos just unable to take advantage of their opportunities so far in this game third down and five 11th play of this Drive the ball of the 14 yard line [Applause] turn over we've got a time half the Broncos have got the ball at the 20 yard loss defense saves them again receiving the number two receiver is in the scheme Todd Christensen let's go back to the interception Merlin chance for you to look right into the face of the quarterback Mark Wilson who's not buried at all but Dennis Wilson just Dennis Smith just sitting on it all away Sammy winder a couple of yards on the play he talked a lot about defense so far in this game Bob seaman on the right calls defensive signals for the Raiders on the left Joe Collier an interesting relationship seaman played for the Broncos going back to 62 and 63 and coached under Collier 78 to 82 said the thing he learned most from Joe Collier was meticulousness at preparation cycle not leaving anything to chance he said it was a valuable part of this education as a coach second down and eight Denver with the ball they have run only eight plays thus far in the ballgame with just under nine minutes to go in the first half sweep left side here is Sewell and he is out about [Applause] he goes out at the 25 so it's going to be third down and five as rod Martin was chasing mark rod Martin by the way playing with on that right hand the middle finger of his right hand dislocated that finger in the game last week against Houston in fact the bone popped right through the skin you can see what he's got going in there and of course Denver wanting to test him early to see if he could use that hand to grasp and push [Applause] five sewers showing motion [Applause] just a couple yards in the 27:34 three is Greg Johnson makes attack [Applause] this game and Elway has not shown us any of the flashing sizzle big smile there but I don't think he has that much to smile about right now as the Raider defense really having their way so far with the Broncos and it was Stacey Turan who was applying the pressure and now they'll apply the pressure to Chris Norman two putts averaging just 34 and a half yards Fulton Walker is the return man the Raiders are sending Jen after the kicker [Applause] it's getting a little bit better oh that's a low kick though that's weak yards on the return and the flag comes 141 yards on the kick whereas K was down for the Denver Broncos will sort out the flag according the applause of Stacy to ran it'll be against Denver thus far in the vol John Elway has completed only two of three passes facemask call against Ibaka the aerial attack of Denver 14 yards the flood facemask five-yard penalty only first down laterz will have the ball inadvertent facemask that's the short tunneling the fluence of things can happen this is John Elway as a receiver 23 yards on the touchdown pass from Steve school that was the last time these two teams met two years ago against the Chicago Bears were Marcus Allen at this very fine pass that a big play in that game those are the kind of tricks that you try and do to keep the defense going Denver is hoping they can pull some tricks out of their sock today you need it they need to get some first downs is what the that's the first trick they need and here's Frank Hawkins with a couple of yards to the 50 yard line another mark at the 49 and it's going to be second down look at the first downs 9 to 0 no offense for Denver at all Broncos really dead cold here they started the game against the Jets that way and in an earlier game against the New England Patriots also had a horrible first half and Reeves looking over his checklist he has plays on there by down and distance and situation many winners so far that list today mecklenburg back in on defense for denver and here is wilson to throw and he [Applause] the covers let's check the games in progress the Jets continue to leave Seattle by three San Diego shutting out Kansas City and Minnesota ahead of Washington by four we talked about number 77 Karl Mecklenburg and putting him in a position where he can go one-on-one on it back Frank Hawkins number 27 doing an excellent job and that's the matchup to Denver once they don't think there's a back around who can block Karl Mecklenburg third down and nine joki Williams in motion [Applause] time to throw the football the pressure right at the end by number 77 mecklenburg you see the stunt between he and number 75 Rulon Jones and I think right at the end there Mark Wilson felled him coming in Wilson yes I am take that shot to the leg threw that ball high in reaction to the pressure and he's limping as he heads to the side and way guy with his first pun [Applause] and he's kicking tudjarow will hire and it will sail into the end zone for the touch the tree - nothing 747 left at the first half Park Wilson of the sign line in Jim Plunkett is warming up tremendous advantage they have the experience of a bucket he's come off the bench many many times and of course his heroics and past seasons well noted earlier this year had to come in when Wilson hurt his thumb and as they continue to check mark Wilson's knee we may well see Puckett in this ball game laterz lead it 3 nothing 747 time remaining first half Denver from their own 20-yard line the winder picks up six to the 26 second down and four let's go to New York and Bob Costas Charlie the last time we checked with you ken O'Brien adjusted on a 50-yarder to al tune very next possession off a play-action fake up top 83 to a wide open Wesley Walker he out Sprint's the two defenders to the end zone it's 17 seven Jets thank you Bob so the other two teams behind the Raiders that are chasing Denver right now are trailing in their game total offense for the Broncos 29 player only by three Sammy winder first down at the 32 yard line that is the first first down in the wall game for the Denver Broncos and it comes with 654 left in the second quarter broncos using a little trickery to make that play work a good job of faking by Elway who went back to make it look like a pass while winder was chewing up some yardage but so far Denver's offense not able to get it going [Applause] gets the first down slips a couple of tackles and fights his way past the 35 to the 37 yard line he'll have five and I'll be second down and five Jerry Robinson makes the tackle and winder has carried the last three players Lester Haynes on that side working on Watson and they don't like each other he pushes Watson right out of bounds and then comes up Lester also doesn't really like the stick his nose in there on the tackles but he and Watson and ere you come right back and watch it comes back at it oh love lost between these two teams there's a lot of talking going on [Applause] it's going to be third down and six is mat felon makes the play for the Raiders and third and six and that means that Elway will be throwing man looks like a bulldog let's go outside though Vance Johnson now working on Lester solo a lot of words in the papers between these two Lester saying you're not going to cut me goes right after Johnson said interesting to follow those matchups during today Lester Hayes a very physical football player and though love believe me lost between he and the receivers of this Bronco they're down in six three wide receivers in for Denver Elway goes deep [Applause] well maybe Lester's concentrating so much on the physical game that he neglected his responsibilities of coverage 53 yards on this play to the speech sir Mark Jackson and watch him as he just gets a break on him Lester didn't get the bump in the five-yard zone and then goes up and this times the jump Mark Jackson comes down with the football in van McElroy 26 finally makes the tackle Lester saying hey know Lester he's not gonna get away with that but you're not gonna sell that one to the official the one play that the Broncos needed to get back into this ball game this time of possession really doesn't count Alicia put some points on the board the only thing [Applause] regi McKenzie stops him at the 5 and the games in progress the Geoff's leading Seattle by 10 San Diego look at that now it is 16 another Minnesota still leads Washington by 4 check it down and for the ball just outside the [Applause] runner down inside loves that little drop like [Applause] do the three [Applause] it's gonna be third down and I coupled and McIlroy leading the Raiders defense it's a man on the sidelines they'd love to have on the field Howie long hamstring injury being a bit of a cheerleader right now trying to get that black shirt and Raider defense to stiffen up third and one down there there Baxter to the end zone Elway and the Broncos offense trying to finally get some points on the board after a very frustrating and sloppy first half third down and two at the three yard line we've got a flag whistle sounding I think we had an offensive lineman lifting up inside and boy that is a costly penalty the way the game [Applause] in his fourth year that's the kind of penalty that Elway will be kicking himself for and you see him dropping his head right there he's looking right into a 30-second clock so he has no excuses Raiders will come with fast defense substitutions they to use a lot of players on the field a lot of specialists Jeff Barnes in Sammy seal and seal by the way playing a great deal for Mikey's cornerback for the still with an ankle problem and he is not a on the field right now [Applause] the Raider defense concentrating so hard on John Elway that they let Sewell get to the outside Elway started down there on the little half-troll handed the ball back inside to still watch it here Elway starts out as the ball inside the Blitz it's coming good blocking 60 Paul Howard and 78 Winfred hood but Sewell didn't need much help as he breaks it all the way into the end zone and Denver putting together an 80 yard touchdown drive in eight plays and he is up have the lead seven to three in sunny Southern California and that last drive 5 minutes and 41 seconds so Broncos proving if they can keep the football for a little bit of time they can put some points on the board it's Carlos kicking off Fulton Walker mr. Phan Adams or the deep backs on the return for the Raider 7 3 Denver 206 left to go 1st half [Music] Karlis oh it's gonna bounce and goes out about 6 yard line and of course if it was not touched though bring it back and kick it over on Adams very fortunate on that play looked like the wind got to that ball it came down and he did not touch it the ball kicked out of bounds but that could have been a disastrous play I think both Walker with all of his experience saying just upon Adams look when that ball there's there you see the wind gusting I think the wind just actually stopped that ball but he's getting a little lecture for Fulton Walker who's saying look you don't do that you get up there get your hands on that football and the wind swirls here in the Coliseum it's hard to judge you see you see Steve Ortmeyer special teams coach she's the black jacketed coach right there signaling in the return they change to return for the Raiders on this next play so give them a different blocking look we've got a timeout and we'll be back give tricks for Mark Wilson the first to have eight or fourteen hundred and 26 yards good news though charlie is that that leg apparently is going to let him continue and Plunkett thought for a minute he was going to get in the game way to see mark.wilson put his helmet back on and say hey I can handle it the Broncos have big job two interceptions Carl is kicking off to either Fulton Walker's to Fontana [Music] [Applause] the flag is down as he has brought down at the 25 yard line by Randy Robbins the Jets have scored again out in front of Seattle 24 7 San Diego continues to shutout Kansas City so there's no big threat going in the West right now and you saw of course the third score between Minnesota and the Redskins will be marked off against the Raiders illegal block during the return number 54 receiving team first down on Reggie McKenzie that park backs them up [Music] they went Bronco defense has come up with several big plays to turn the Raider offense away right now again they'll be thinking turnover [Applause] - dungeon that is it as Rickey Hundley makes the tackle it'll be second down in jail a chance to watch Rickey Hundley in the middle of that defense for the Broncos their leading tackler is the Bandit right here now watch watch Hundley as he's taking his read looking back into the movement of lineups and then he'll break out of there to make the tackle we've got a timeout as he makes the tackle flag is down two passes complete [Applause] 17:25 yards if it's tan what a great catch by Doki Williams and stretched out to maximum as he just dough for that football [Applause] that ball overthrown cook he says no way I'm gonna go get it and watch the way he has to fight to contain that football before he finally rolls out of out the ball at the 36 yard line first down [Applause] Mohsen Attia Christenson it is incomplete it will be second down and ten Christensen double-teamed 55 Rick Dennison and 49 Dennis Smith both of them on top of him Mark Wilson throwing that football to the outside gave Christensen a chance at it but he couldn't control it as we take another look at it overall we had a very sloppy first half between two very intense ball clubs and will they settle down and will it straighten itself out in the second half Broncos have had two games where they played horribly in the first half specifically New England and the Jets game and came back to play well in the second half the Raiders have not played as badly in this half as the Broncos have by far but don't have as many points on the board as they should have this Lag is down the pass is incomplete the clock is stopped 119 left to go first half holding against Denver [Applause] holding number 49 defense first down Dennis Smith on Todd Christensen number 46 watch him here Todd comes off the line and spins to get away and Dennis just grabs ahold and hooks right there on the inside knew that he couldn't let him go trying to use that trying to stay close enough so the official wouldn't call it if they ticket it in court first down at the 41 good protection drops manages to salvage six or seven yard [Applause] not to kind of guess you recommend a few words right there for Kenwood er Marcus but he still got the yardage and will be by Los Angeles about 10 degrees warmer on the I think at least the series warmer it's a dry heat it's not humid today but that heat still could have an impact on these teams later on in the game particularly in the fourth quarter second and five at the 46 [Applause] member first down 11 yards on the play and the hurry-up offense continued very nice one-handed grab by Christensen and a good pass by Mark Wilson [Applause] [Applause] [Music] a gain of 17 at one point in the season the Raiders have given up more sacks than any team in the NFL and they really have done a better job in the last few weeks of protecting their quarterback Wilson with all the time in the world to look downfield you can't give a quarterback that many opportunities or he's going to get your right first four game quarterbacks worse at 19 times that's almost five a game and the next four they cut it down to two sacks a game because it makes a big difference big Dan Reeves is over there saying hey they can't hold us out without holding come on call those penalties in there two sacks so far in the game by the Broncos Raider defense has gotten two Elway one time so far in a game he's telling those officials to open their eyes open your eyes in their call a holding penalty and you notice the timeouts remaining the Raiders do not have a timeout saved for their field goal team so they have shut down their options here if they throw they've got to throw why to each side they cannot afford to throw over the middle unless you're throwing into the end zone well unless you take it all the way to the interesting to see Tom Flores calls the place for the greater offense of course an old quarterback he's got definite feel for what he wants to do when it gets down into the into this end of the field the first quarterback for the Raiders going back to 1960 in their first preseason [Applause] pushed down 39 seconds left on the clock to the receiver it's going to be second down again excellent protection and I think a good decision by Frank Hawkins Machens probably could have contained this football but with Kenwood our number 52 right on top of it as you watch the battle on the inside and it's getting rough in the pits right now greater offensive line of Davis and Hanna on the outside and reliance on the other side Mickey Marvin died most part all doing a good job of keeping Wilson clean on that play Wilson has completed 12 of 2011 and Denver has it Mecklenburg [Applause] two interceptions and to fumble recoveries by the Denver defense get to look like mark.wilson got the clean snap on that ball didn't get away from the centered on most bar the Broncos just very quick to capitalize what is that the third time today they've shut out they pushed the graters away from their end zone with turnovers and the Broncos take over with 30 seconds left to go in the second quarter two timeouts remaining Charlie interesting to note that in the last in the last two games Denver's a minus five on the turnover table they've given it up five times more than they've taken away which is zero times last two games coming into this one complete to Jarrell will hide and he is dropped immediately by Jeff Barnes gain of about four they were all tough yards second and six oh it's a football game but inside of that game it's a whole series of individual battles and here's one Wilhite Jeff Barnes number 56 and I think maybe Jeff Barnes what the hell and Denver says what isn't the clock run down and the gun sounds that is the end of the first half is Denver 7 Los Angeles 3 does I don't think either coach can be happy with the performance of his team in this first half defensively the teams have played better than they have on offense but both the Reeves and Flores I'm sure are going to have a very serious conversation with their offense Los Angeles dominating the clock but only a 38-yard feel go back after these messages San Jose I'm Charlie Jones along with Merlin Olsen a very strange almost disjointed first half Charlie Halloween on Friday night but the hangover is still here Patrick Boland the owner of the Broncos was out in the hallway here a moment ago and he said I'm going to go down to the dressing room and see if those are really my guys down there and I'm sure that Tom Flores is feeling the same thing the Raiders have actually squandered many more opportunities in this first half they had four chances deep in Denver territory first time Marcus fumbled the ball and the Broncos recovered it second time they were intercepted by Mike harden third time Dennis back after these messages San Jose I'm Charlie Jones along with Merlin Olsen a very strange almost disjointed first half Charlie Halloween on Friday night but the hangover is still here Patrick Boland the owner of the Broncos was out in the hallway here a moment ago and he said I'm going to go down to the dressing room and see if those are really my guys down there and I'm sure that Tom Flores is feeling the same thing the Raiders have actually squandered many more opportunities in this first half they had four chances deep in Denver territory first time Marcus fumbled the ball and the Broncos recovered it second time they were intercepted by Mike harden third time Dennis Smith intercepted them in the end zone and in another fumble on a snap by Mark Wilson so there been four different opportunities where the Raiders that they batted away and then that bizarre ill batted ball earlier on to so that was another one that could have been and the statistics pointed all out they certainly do time a possession at the bottom and of course we talked about the turnovers for turnovers by the Raiders and this comes after the Broncos have been shut out on the turnover Department for two weeks the yardage as you would expect not many chances for Denver to make yardage and we've said it before the best way to control Denver's offense is to keep them on the sidelines to keep Elway out of the game and yet he's four out of five in passing but the statistics lie they do they do just a reminder Charlie well we'll save it and the kickoff is [Applause] gene laying just tippy-toes see how close his toes came to that goal line watch it now if he touches that goal line it's the blue just barely the ball can't go out either take it out I guess really it's the ball that controls it he can't put that ball out over the line but it was dreadfully closed you go back to the plane of the goal line from the other side that we talked about sit in the time all right Denver from their own 20 yard line first down leading in the bar game 7 swing and that might be badly the only throws the pass is complete clarence k the tight end and the broncos open up moving to the 44 yard line 24 yards of the play Reggie Mackenzie with attack early he said it might be bad news for one reason in the last six games the team that led at halftime between the matchups between the Raiders in the Broncos has ended up losing the ballgame they've got a lot of work cut out for them on the field and at least Denver's offense starts out with a positive note and that's the strangest statistic as we have in this bargain [Music] [Applause] there's any winder the 47 yard line he picks up three and it is second down and seven Jerry Robinson makes the tackle Marcus Ali as an ice pack on the his cheekbone he may just be cooling down down there we mentioned the heat temperature still right up around 83 84 degrees hotter on the field inside handoff to winder for more yards to the Los Angeles 49 givin you a chance to look in on the individual war taking place between Lester Hayes and in this case Vance Johnson watch the contact here SWAT to the side of the head and Johnson having to kind of restrain himself let me get Lester a foul because you're not allowed to go to the man's head and they're not allowed to contact the receiver five yards down field he got away with at that time third down and three was it being run look at it remove it in the offensive line and we've got some fisticuffs going on at the 50-yard line [Applause] and now a little jawing going on it's the Greg Townsend of the Raiders and I believe there was Orson Mobley the rookie and he was there's the jump Winfred hood number 78 we mentioned that he's in there for Keith Bishop he's out with a knee injury ticking it there they verbal activities on the line of scrimmage typical for these two teams I figured that was one sure way to lose a lot of energy I saved it for the play Jets leading San Diego's still leading and now Minnesota in front of Washington by one in that seesaw battle third down and eight here the Broncos out in front 73 Elway goes deep as a man and the pass is complete to the 20-yard line Vance Johnson announced ativan at the 22 it's not gonna help they've got Ken Lanier holding on direct Townsend and work there 32 yards with your right let's look at the play anyway it's a shame when you lose one this artistic and believe me Denver hasn't had many artistic plays to look at today there is Johnson streaking down the near sideline a good job Stephon Adams the man who tried to stay with him it was about 17 times around and finally out of bounds great concentration that is so hard to whip back and catch the ball let's look at Lester Hayes now you've seen in Lester hammer in a little bit there he is in his backpedal and then breaks out of the backpedal staying with Mark Jackson and then looking back to the ball he's a long ways away from the action and the djinn yard penalty against Denver it'll be third down and 18 the raiders you know there's been penalize only twice for 20 yard she said melee in Kansas who they have really cut their penalties down they certainly have question of whether they're playing more conservative way or or what or what away throwing back on the delayed screen - well hi to the 45-yard line he has nine but he'll be fourth down and nine and now the excitement of Chris Norman who will come in to kill a lot of pressure after all of the problems that Denver's had but they're kicking game Dan Murray said I think I've heard I've gotten a letter or a call from everybody whoever kicked in high school or college he said please no fourth letter I've had enough help and advice on this and Bishop is the snapper now he's not playing because of that knee problem but he is him for the long snap and once again the Raiders show is if they're going to put a 10 man rush on the punter they put heat on him every time he's kicked so far and he has yet to really root one oh he gets a pretty good kick away and a fair catch is called for at the 23 yard line by Paulson Walker's so that time Chris Norman under pressure certainly came through timeout we'll be back belong with Merlin Olsen and Keith Bishop he was talking with the officials well I don't think he was able to he's had some problems snapping I will talk about when we get a chance here in a minute Raiders first down from their own 23 yard line history showing motion and here's Marcus Allen twenty-eight maybe the 29-yard line charlie two weeks ago against the Jets Keith Bishop and his larynx he smashed a little bit split actually split open and they had to put a special pad on his neck to protect it actually his shoulder pads jammed up into his throat they also extended his facemask both of those things make it difficult when he drops his head to center to get that ball in there that may be one of the reasons on top of that of course he's playing with the bad knee so that last step could have been a disaster [Applause] Lag is down Marcus Allen again this time just a couple of yards and he came up limping after that last play let's see if he comes up limping again no it's not that noticeable it'll be holding against the Raiders and motion against the Raiders after all of the good conversation in the locker room both teams have come back out to renew their performance and if you look down on the field and consider the kind of play we've had from these in particular these two offensive teams today and tell me that these are the teams that are leading in probably the toughest or at least as tough of division as there is in the NFL you got to say come on you're kidding me can you get too high too emotionally up for this kind of a ballgame I think it's possible Charlie that baby wanna swing 272 offense penalty knee pine holding number 73 offense that penalty would be accepted as early khana the penalty is accepted on the holding [Applause] so we go back to the 19 it's going to be second down and 14 ten and a half minutes up to go in the third quarter [Applause] and he's bullying Andre Johnson Broncos will do a lot of slanting and shifting and they like to free up Carl Mecklenburg number 77 on the outside of your picture there watch him as he steps in takes on the blocker and then reacts to the inside to help Greg Cragen number earth Andre Townsend actually number 61 make that tackle good move Mecklenburg has to control to the outside and then come back inside the home they play Mecklenburg all over that defensive ah inside outside up and down because the opposes whatever I cook for him when he comes [Applause] the projection and the pass is complete for the first down - cookie William 18 yards and the first down second fine catch of the day by donkey Williams he doped for one on the sidelines earlier and this fall thrown slightly behind dokie and watch him go back to get it right there look at him he has to stop and actually go to the ground almost a hook slide reminiscent to the series on that one milky three receptions for 65 yards and why did a near side the running attack of Marcus Allen the Raiders continued to mix it up they trail seven three Jim Ryan makes the defensive play for Denver excellent play by Ryan Ryan by the way entrusted with calling the adjustments to that Denver defense it had Rickey Hundley doing that earlier but Hundley was having trouble getting the defense is called and then reacting to that very much defensive system it's old hat for Ryan and he's taken part of that responsible also the yard second and alone [Applause] Wilson with pressure and it will be incomplete yoky Williams was the closest would be receiver Randy Robbins was implying the present let's move on and Wilson just flipped it away there at Keenan there on the sidelines we'll listen to what Tom Flores wants in the way of a play and then he'll signal it on in Samba Goshen there's the signal going in Samba Goshen the offensive line coach on the other side of Flores and then Collier will wait the defense waits traditionally until the play goes onto the field and then he makes his call I wonder what's in that book and I asked the question he said well a lot of information that we stockpile on the Raiders everything that you dirty living a flag is dry Marcus out on the voluntary the whistles had been sounding and it'll be a delay of game against the Raiders Wilson has completed 13 of 22 199 yards no touchdowns and he has been intercepted twice [Applause] sixteen and now let's go back and check all of the scores the Giants defeating Dallas by three - England over Atlanta and Cincinnati down in Detroit are closed good ball games Cleveland defeating the Coates Miami over Houston is expected to Orleans upsets San Francisco Pittsburgh looms over Green Bay Tampa Bay manzara Buffalo and st. Louis by three over Philadelphia those are the early final sixteen tip and his lovely Doki Williams the intended reason the opportunity for an interception get away Broncos with three men rushing and everyone else back Mark Wilson with time-bound dokey Williams and threaded the needle on that ball I don't know whether it was touched there but they're very lucky that Robbins ran into Louis right Randy Robinson Louie right collided or that ball would have been intercepted [Applause] hey guy with a low snap and pressure [Applause] and takes a raider roll filled it by Wilhite and he has dropped after just a few steps on his return we've got a timeout and we'll be back in a moment the Jets in front of Seattle San Diego in front of Kansas City in Minnesota leading Washington by 1 we talked about the sellout here where they're going to be some changes this is a look at the press box now and I have a new press box every edition of luxury suites on both sides not in the end zone but sideline to sideline more than 4,000 seats are going to be added and luxury seats are really a great demand for the really well received here in Los Angeles oh wait those fires and it will be close to the first down he goes to Vance Johnson and he's brought down by Lester A's and that is a talking configuration a confrontation between these two let's take a look good arm strength Lester giving Vance Johnson a lot of room and you can't do that Elway has such a powerful arm that you don't have a lot of time to recover the very two two of the very best casters in football both idle today how long with a hamstring injury Rulon Jones with a knee problem and they won't take any recipe see the ice pack ice pack on Rulon's left knee there needed 11 on a first down at the 39 yard line while Jerry and he goes to the 46 yard line beginning at 7 and it's going to be second down and three so scoring the only touchdown of the ballgame and he did that from 8 yards out Sam seal with the tackle six and a half minutes left to go on the throne Charlie except for that one long pass to Mark Jackson 53 yards this Denver Bronco offense has been very silent throughout this game there's the first down but up winder inside the 34 Aurora can bring him down with his marker back at the 44 yard line 37 yards [Applause] it looks like it may be against the Raiders they're moving on down the field [Applause] Los Angeles offsides personal foul also against the Raiders and so the play stands is the first major foul against Los Angeles but in four weeks to four games you're right [Applause] [Applause] here comes the play as winder breaks inside gets into the secondary very few bodies around as he was apparently apparently a blitz on the inside defense penalty declined personal foul unnecessary roughness number forty-three defense accepted Sam seal and they'll tack it onto the end of the play so the line of scrimmage becomes the 14 yard line first down we mentioned that Sam seal playing in there for my Kane's ankle injuries kept him on the sidelines heading to the sidelines as James Davis under 45 and he said earlier he said I feel like I got a bull's-eye in front [Applause] so the Broncos little opportunity here leading 7-3 and they go to winder Sammy goes for the 10 yard line Brees will use some substitution here that's earring Kubiak signaling in from the sidelines let's see if we can see what Sammy seal did to draw that foul there's the cut block now that's that's the block that the graders have been so irritated about they said hey you're going after our legs and you saw the shot by seal after Watson had gone after his legs Tennessee like the thing to do the official didn't feel he would bother me to have my wife scoot over yeah but it's still illegal block grinder Robinson with the tackle perhaps they ought to change the reel on that let's go to New York for an update [Music] Charlie altoon is having an incredible day better than 170 yards in receptions seven catches two of them four touchdowns watch this catch in between Terry Taylor and Ken Easley ken O'Brien now has thrown for three touchdowns 31 seven Jets so the Jets continue to run free in the kingdom with Denver leading 73 and threatened to put 7 more on the board they're gone five sooo all has it at the section he goes out [Applause] looks as if you'll pick up the first down watch Sean Jones 99 from the right side of your picture in on Elway Elway throws as he retreats and still is able to put that ball right on target and Sue dancing down the sideline is going to be just a couple of yards short of the end zone as they'll put it in play on the 4 yard line and it's first down goal to go just inside the 4 [Applause] winder means to the three-second down gold ago Mike why the rookie Cal Davis who was activated this week just a couple of days ago was in on the defensive style elawar continues between the Denver wide receivers had the defensive backs as Lester says hey you're not going to get the best of this one night I gotta believe that we're gonna have an all-out fight at some point in this game we're going to see another major penalty against either one of those receivers or for a lot of the Lenape that you got an illegal of course to go against to receive as well [Applause] winder and he pulls his way into the endzone for the touchdown and a Bentley on the field number 93 defense penalty declined Brett Townsend a defensive end called for holding Elway with a good play action fake that froze the defense and then I could not find an open receiver in the end zone just flipped it out the Sammy winder he found it up for him to squeeze into the end zone [Applause] a 72 yard touchdown drive by the Denver Broncos in seven point [Applause] and the extra point is good and Denver is now on top by a score of 14 to 3 games back of Denver they cannot afford to fall 3 but we certainly can and I'm sure concern they're not necessarily with a score because there's plenty of time left in this game but with the performance in particular of the Raider offense the fact that they have squandered so many scoring opportunities early in this game which Kyle is kicking off with Fulton Walker and Stephane Adams the two deep backs on the return Adams on the near side Walker on the far side and then Walker at the nine to the 1520 and returns near the 30 yard let's go back to the touchdown will heighten with a tremendous fake coming airborne it's a gymnast he really sells this look at him diving up over the line and you've got to respect that kind of fake as you see right and in Elway able to get a little extra time he looks into the end zone and I think he wanted Dave stuttered on a tackle eligible stuttered held up on the play did not get open the winder got the football and did get open and the boos Arbor Martin Wilson the quarterback of the Raiders [Applause] the able the TV listen office go this is a good time and the pass is complete as Doki Williams picks up about yards on the boy Lily right with the tackle and the games in progress the Jets continued to lead comfortably San Diego continues to shut out Kansas City Minnesota Washington team Minnesota by one all in the third quarter as we are with Denver leading Los Angeles 14 3 Broncos able to put a drive together and now the Raiders would like to be able to match that for the drive of their own and here's Marcus Allen has about four yards to the Denver 48 it's going to be second down and six the Raiders have been able to generate some offense but they self-destructed with four turnovers turnovers will kill you Charlie it's always been the case and they have had four opportunities could have had another one and really have only been able to put those three points on the board but they're already inside of Denver's territory on the forty eight and a half yard line see if perhaps they can't get something going here and you saw the time remaining in the third quarter on the Suncoast Sanga - tom kristensen after 40 so that's a gain of 8 in the first down let's go in and look at number 46 2nd leading receiver in football coming into this game behind altoon arias getting off the ball gets the bump by Ryan breaks his timing a little bit trailed by Mecklenburg on this play and Dennis spent you don't think they respect him they bump him and they put two people on him he still catches the football and picks up the first down [Applause] is John Denver 40 Bachelor the middle is you know Todd Christensen [Applause] Dennis Smith was wrestling him down [Applause] it comes right back gets in there without the bump this time Smith just a little bit slow and reacting to an inside cut mark.wilson had the ball there and the Raiders have two quick first downs via the aerial circus to Todd Christensen and Christensen has no problem coming over the middle to make a reception not afraid to stick his nose in there who's Marcus Marcus Allen to the 25 mentioned Denver's leading tackler Rickey Hundley number 98 in fact I think he had what he tackled by 17 coming into this game there he is quickly up inside gets away from Charlie Hannah number 73 I think the man that was trying to block him a good job of making the tackle but on the healthy gain in spite of that the graders have a second and six coming up [Applause] we'll see the time [Applause] just yesterday Mike harden had the government good pass excellent football and you'll see one of the big differences between Mark Wilson and and his opposing quarterback today is the fact that Wilson will hang that football up the long passes are this kind of passes Elway Tim's to zip the ball usually Wilson's a hanger he loops that ball he had that one just barely out of Hester's range and there's a look at John Elway not much of a day for John today no had the ball a lot you know he's performed with his happy about what's on the board Oh [Applause] maybe for those of you who played the defensive backfield or wanted to be one you can feel like you're part of it here as Todd Christensen comes right at you mark.wilson again that's a good throw good catch hard to control a receiver when he breaks crisply and gets that kind of pass into the third quarter we'll be back after these messages from your local station a lot of interesting numbers here still one more in the fourth quarter this year the Broncos have outscored their opponents almost two to one not quite but almost two to one the Raiders have been outscored more than two to one in the fourth quarter Charlie I'm so glad that statistics don't determine the outcome of the game it's still going to be decided down there on the floor of the Coliseum right now the Raiders to make sure that they get themselves back into it number 16 four years to the 12 second down and six Toni Lilly with the time he gave you an opportunity to put on your helmet your shoulder pads and play in the defensive backfield now you could be a defensive end Simon Fletcher number 73 doing a good job of getting off the block and getting outside Toni Lilly 22 up from his position in the backfield between the two of them they're able to corral Marcus Allen but he still got about four yards on the play second down and six at the 12 yard line member leaves 14 to 3 [Applause] showing motion [Applause] down quarterback looking at that play knowing that Doki is headed into an area where there are other defensive backs tried to zip it into him put it slightly behind him and he put that ball in front of Doki we'd have had a touchdown there for the Raiders put it behind him Doki bounced it up there lucky it wasn't intercepted injury important rule on Jones on that left knee he will not return to the bargain Marcus Allen six Raiders electing to do what the Broncos did earlier in a passing situation ran the football I'm surprised area for a touchdown but that one did not work now do you go for it I think maybe the Raiders will they certainly haven't said Chris borrow into the field and here that the election has already been made [Applause] seven fourth down and two [Applause] staying quiet down hey come on quiet down and they're going to charge Denver with a timeout if they're first they have two remaining will be back inta member broncos and the Los Angeles Raiders denver on top by 11 the Raiders force down in two at the Denver eight yard line and they're going for it you go with Marcus Allen well I think you go to your money man here let's see if Tom Flores agrees looks like inaudible for mark.wilson I think it was talking scaring the football franchise [Applause] they expect markets to have this fall let's cross them up Frank Hawkins actually has a better for Russian average than Marcus Allen number 27 and it's Marcus doing the blocking a change of rules here there's Marcus on Mecklenburg 77 and Hawkins look at that extra effort that Lake Drive question about it he picked it up first down goal to go 5-yard line whoa not just this time over the right side and every second down go to go for the three Simon Fletcher was there to make this stop along with Jim Ryan the market comfortably inside the five just inside the four yard line second down and goal the gamble paid off for the Broncos at least to this point now they need to get the seven points put him on the board interesting choice this early in the game to go on a situation [Applause] teams Trujillo is in and he shows motion [Applause] Louise Marcus all alone in the end zone they thought they can freeze the deep end but gender wasn't having any part of it they're coming on an all-out blitz and there's Ryan number 50 coming from the outside 22 Tony Lily coming from the inside a linebacker a defensive back and Mark Wilson did not have a chance and for Tony Lilly his first shot and there's a look at the saturation [Applause] all year for the Raiders third down goal to go [Applause] I think we'll have a holding call plus a grasp and control call but let's give the officials a chance to sort it out and remember that was third down [Applause] there's a man who would like a chance Jimmy Puckett holding against the Raiders or remember a moment ago they were just inside though for holding number 65 offense panelio me decline fourth down declining the call because they want to take the down away from the Raiders they'll force them here to go for the field goal coming into today's game in for Denver that is their fourth sack and now for the last six games they have had five sacks which is an NFL record five sacks again they're only one away from stretching that to the seventh game doing it without their best sack they're on the field Rulon Jones on the sideline with a bad knee and the 42 yard field goal attempt by Chris Bosh [Applause] and picked up by Dennis Smith capacity crowd sensing that their graders had a chance to put points on the board not only see them denied the touchdown but now with a low kick they're denied an opportunity for three points once BMW Saban how he challenged these temperatures going to receive credit for reaching up and slapping the attempt down I believe that was a low kick and Fletcher up in the air well but that ball usually would have he above his hands if Chris gets a good shot on him Charlie back to the action here as the Raiders have been shut down so many times in the Broncos territory by a Bronco defense that has had two interceptions - fumble recoveries all in their own territory and now a block kick after a big sack that took the Raiders out of a parent field goal ring and the Raiders head the ball for seven minutes and 22 seconds Sammy winder on the first carry for Denver from the 29 to the 32 it's second down and 7 John Elway thus far has completed 9 of 10 427 yards and a touchdown yet had a lot of opportunity banana Tim not too shabby an afternoon and Eira's winder again as he has three to the 35 is goobie third down and four Drake Townsend makes the tackle let's check the games in progress in the National Football League this afternoon that just continued to waltz away from Seattle San Diego leading Kansas City now 16 to 7 the Chiefs finally got on the scoreboard Minnesota beginning to pull away from Washington so Minnesota truly is a playoff team and here the score is Denver 14 Los Angeles Raiders 3 now with 950 and Counting that is the time remaining in the ball game of the Coliseum I'll tell you Dan Reeves right now on the sidelines I say let's just run that football control the clock and take the time away from an Denver Broncos call a timeout the seclusion as Elway pulled away from the center either some misunderstandings on the offensive side or defense he didn't like one of the other so we'll take a timeout the score is Denver 14 Los Angeles timeouts remaining Broncos have wasted a couple of timeouts of this half that could come back to haunt them third down and four at their own 35 [Applause] Pendley flags were already on the ground I think we had an offsides on the Raiders but Charlie here's something we alluded to earlier in the game the fact that these two teams have not split a season series since 1977 and of course if you believe in history you get a set coming in the Broncos have it going for them and yet the Raiders coming in off a five-game winning streak they really appeared to have their offensive situation together they've been playing good defense all year but their offense has certainly self-destructed many many times today against a good Denver defense and I think we need to give them some credit in that situation the penalty against the Raiders so it'll be a first down for Denver on the draw nine today's telecast presented by authority the National Football League intended for the private use of our audience and he rebroadcast other use of this telecast at the express written consent of the Los Angeles Raiders and the National Football League is prohibited Bronco apparently injured on that last play as the trainer's head out onto the field they've stuttered I believe number 70 is the man on the ground yes it is stuttered and with injury problems already plaguing them Keith Bishop hurt that could be a severe blow we have a timeout and we'll be back in a moment you just don't have more of this kind of injury watch Studdard being driven to the inside number 70 and then watch him as Billy Bryant the center throws Patel right there stop it and you can see it as Pakal falls across the ankle and the knee and they've got him on the sideline checking it out that means Dan Remsburg has gone into the game and his place and that's two subs in there with bishop the whole left side of that line out now Bishop and stuttered both out second and nine zero will light plus the 45 to the 46 yard line we third down and about four let's check the complete scoreboard the Giants win by three over Dallas the Giants are going to be in first place in the East because Washington is losing right now New England wins over Atlanta that's a good one for New England Cleveland over Indianapolis Miami over Houston that was expected the upset New Orleans over San Francisco 23 to 10 Pittsburgh wins Tampa Bay wins and st. Louis wins and has been struggling but they beat Philadelphia jets way out in front of Seattle San Diego continues to lead Kansas City in Minnesota over Washington the run and the pass is complete first down Johnson a nose makes the tackle that's really kind of the first true scrambling ability valley that we've seen today charlie reading my mind exactly Elway has been content to play a relatively conservative game today and of course they don't want him to scramble unless he have to he has to here they are all over him Townsend 90 357 Robinson he threw that on the dead run okay that is tough good catch by Vance Johnson but if you want to do something difficult try throwing at a moving target when you're running full speed toward the sideline and three people are chasing you yeah that's right it's not not as if it's just run toward the sideline a gain of 12 first down at the Raiders 42 yard line little motion and winder good cigar you know for to the 37 second insects Rob Martin makes the tackle football trivia what team holds the NFL record for the fewest yards passing in a game let you think about that regular season or is it regular season postseason don't these tough questions it's an NFL well then to be regular season otherwise you'd be listed as a postseason record because I remember the one playoff game the Bob Griese only like six completions or something that had no fat applied second and six winder is dumped gonna lose a couple of yards on the play bill but Kel was there to wrap him up he's gonna be third down and about eight excellent play by Mikkel as he slanted off the nose drove into the backfield until you see that tape strapped over the nose that helmet drove down over and split his nose wide open the Collin the injuries for the particular the big man down on the line who so often and that helmet slammed down onto their heads and tipped forward they're down we demonstrate completion is down the past far side is from there's an offsides on the Raiders that will keep them alive in this situation the right tackle defensively jumped he was able to stop himself but his head was over the ball outside Los Angeles let's look at the end of that last play or other artistic move by Sewell trying to get his feet down in bounds one foot in second foot out good call by the official who's right there on the sidelines second foot on the line it's still third down likewise ticketed on that particular play activated this last week I think in anticipation for the problem and how he long would not be able to play not the kind of thing you want to have your name mentioned for though Charlie I was in the replay booth talking with a replay for subtract reader and al Ward who's the communicator and I said are you gonna have a busy I really said we hope they play here winder and they come up yes you'll be short let's play by the Raider defense winder running in behind the left side of that line and remind folks that that's Winfred hood and Dan Remsburg over there instead of stutter to Bishop toss back to winder good leaf block in there good play inside out Reggie McKinsey number 54 a man who really put the shot on in there to finish him off moving on the five-minute mark time remaining Broncos are leading 14 to 3 it is fourth down and one and they're going to go for it interesting call of course you don't gain much here with a punt and it's a we'll go for Palace we'd be a 50-yard field goal attempt we have a penalty I think against Denver at any rate this might change yes it does will change their thinking as they will now go to a punt and be sure to join us next Sunday for exciting NFL action your day kicks off within about 86 at 12:30 Eastern Daylight Time Bob Costas your host and then it's a shootout in Texas as the Raiders will be battling the Cowboys and the AFC Western division leading Denver Broncos will be hosting the San Diego charger should have check your local listings for the game in time in your area your team plays here on NBC Sports looking at any white broken wrist today for Dallas chance for Steve Paul or to go back into that lineup maybe even Reggie Carter miss Norman kicking to Fulton Walker it's been an adventure they're after him again Oh and it goes into the endzone for the touchdown so the Raiders will bring it out to their own 20-yard line don't have the ball first down Norman not happy let's go back and lay that answer for our trivia question on you the question again what team holds the NFL record for fewest yards passing in a game first the two teams involved these two teams the Raiders and the Broncos and it was the Denver Broncos in 1967 steeped NC the quarterback to started that game - 53 yards against the then Oakland Raiders how could you have a - 53 yards passing away all the Artie John the sax Charlie and you don't complete many passes like he took her pretty passes at all Denver by the way had the ball almost six and a half minutes he ran that much time off of the clock he got it over four and a half to go Wilson throws four so far side incomplete good defensive play as Dennis Smith was there as to the intended receiver it'll be second down there to put that hand timing is so important for those defensive backs as he arrives if he hits that receiver before the ball arrives he'll be ticketed for a foul Jesse Hester trying to get squared away catch that ball Smith just timing it perfectly what a hand on the football it wasn't called charlie just attack on the fourth quarter last week the Seattle Seahawks were - 21 yards when they finally took Craig out of the game so that is unusual but not that unusual Wilson's pass is almost intercepted Marcus Allen the intended receiver Reindeer Amin almost took it over his shoulder as if he was a receiver it'll be third down back at the 20 crowd getting restless here as the Raiders they just can't put it together today see the long shadows the the late evening Sun coming in over the edge of the Coliseum can get to be a real factor here today and perhaps that's what trapped Marcus on that last play third and 10 and Wilson has completed 17 of 31 244 yards he's been intercepted twice and the Raiders have a long field goal they're behind 14 to 3 was tied in Christianson 45 yard line 35 yards on the play and it was a third down and 10 a do-or-die kind of play and Mark Wilson has had trouble avoiding the rush on occasions today he does a fine job here they've got the heat on him coming from the inside that's Simon Fletcher 73 there gets away from him and finds the open receiver Todd Christensen Christensen running for the sidelines that's only picks up the first down but also gets that clock stopped John Christian said that is his eighth reception 109 yards and last week he had seven for 82 but three touchdowns to that ball no touchdowns for the Raiders the spa let's go was it will 45 I think Charlene we've got to two players one defensive back on each team that started his career as a wide receiver and ended up a defensive back Steve Wilson is one Sammy seals the other for the Raiders and the reason they were selected was speed pure and simple able to match speed with the receiver and you saw Wilson stride for stride with Jessie Hester 80 for that ball well thrown well Sean bye-bye the quarterback and hester replaced by another speedster rod Barksdale and he have 406 left to go sure well the Raiders rally Raiders already in a hurry up offense because one touchdown doesn't do it for them they know they've got to get a couple of scores on the board mark Wilson gets him right to the line first out of the Denver 23 this time to the 20-yard line at his Martinez Allen brought down by Randy robbing the gain of 307 get a hold of it as he threw that football did a good job of getting it off in progress Raiders call a timeout the Jets in front ooh Kansas City climbing back at San Diego and Minnesota continues to lead Washington interesting happenings outside of the Coliseum but here in the Coliseum let's check the games remaining well if you're a schedule watcher you know that the Broncos really have a tough row to hoe in the last part of this season the Raiders hoping they could win today and then would hope for a little help along the way from some very tough teams in particular on the road against the Giants on the road against Kansas City they've got to go to Seattle three big divisional games of course the Raiders themselves don't have a piece of cake as they head to Dallas this next week Cleveland San Diego but an easier schedule than the one facing the Bronco now we'll take a look at the standings in the conference standings but also remember what else is going on today I remember the Raiders Kansas City and Seattle tied at five three records behind Denver at this point the Raider Kansas City and Seattle are all losing so Denver can have it they will continue to where they can have a lot of breathing room you see there that the difference in the conference and divisional races is not significant if the Raiders were to win today however you put another loss in that side of the column for the Raiders and you've given the Broncos a a very tough edge to overcome in the second half of these the ball at the 20 yard line of Denver 2nd down and 7 332 the timely mean into the end zone those are sometimes fortunate things that happen for you man-to-man coverage forty-five away I watch him as histor can see the ball whoops and lost track of his man momentarily Hester just slipped around him and took the football away 80 yard drive seven plays only a minute ten here's the extra point attempt this is to pull within four ugly there again a low kick you save it is back in the Jimmy J living his way out of a problem earlier in the year let's take a peek and see if that ball if that ball to was kicked low first we're going to look at the touchdown throw good job of protecting Mark Wilson Wilson gets it down into the end zone doing exactly what they had to do in this situation which is get themselves a touchdown and that is Hester's first reception in the ball game that's his fourth touchdown of the year and there's the time remaining 326 is it too early for an onside kick state I think it is to these work part is probably discussing that Flores here's the extra point let's go back and take it the mark.wilson holes by the way on see if we can see what happened there but you see Chris bar shaking his head I think maybe an indication that he didn't get that wall up where it should have been let's see if we can see it from this angle and fall is low and it just hit Simon Fletcher again the man who blocked one earlier got his fingers on that one on an extra point you've got to get that ball up get it over their head let's go 6 5 2 4 you got got a piece of it the Broncos have their hands team on in case there is an onside stick an opportunity if the Raiders want to to kick the ball deep knowing that it's going to be difficult to return the ball with this many men on if it is an onside stick it must go ten yards before the kicking team can touch it how they kicking around script I'm just trying to drop it in behind the line gene laying picks it up and hits for the sidelines Wilhite was the deep back on the return tour he's like an almost I'll drop it over the front line see if somebody can run under it I think that's our very cleverly designed onside kick one that's designed the spin then he got a lot of spin on that ball but was well handled by the Broncos garlic timeouts put the effect Raiders - right now they have got to take the football back into the bar game shut down by Bill Bikel gal following that play inside out from his nose tackle position did an excellent job of making that tackle 2:22 and of course Denver will use all the time they can do play-action fake the only fires to the sideline I think it's a good reception he's going to be a little short of the first down bring up a very very big third down play for the Denver Broncos Vance Johnson with the reception is the quarterback comparison you look at that you it's hard to believe that Elway has that kind of tempers because he does not seem to have been that big a factor in the game third down and two at the 29-yard line the big difference there between the two quarterbacks those two interceptions play-action fake I think he's going to be short he is he's short of a charlie Elway using his to get away from or watch Koran now it's a footrace to the sidelines inside out at Matt Millen number 55 who got over there to make that saving tackle on the sidelines and now tremendous pressure with Chris Norman they've come after in every putt today they came very close on two occasions to blocking the punt they're going to come after him again they're still on the sideline I guess they're reviewing the play perhaps asking where he was out of bounds first opportunity for the replay officials to get involved in this game they'll look to the sideline and mark it again there's a time remaining do 21 maybe we can go back and look at the last part of that play where Elway goes out of bounds here it is for you at home to take a peek Milind coming inside out and it looks like he's well almost dead between the two lines and they have marked it forward of that he needed to get to the 31 he did not get to doubt he didn't get to the 31 but back there you see the ball which is good a spot as any know it's in the neighborhood relatively young material I think Reeves will play it conservatively at this point anyway and kick the ball even if he's close to a first down he wants to put as much green between Mark Wilson and his offense in the end zone as he possibly can that is the umpire Rex Stewart who has the headset on he's in communications with Al Ward who is the communicator and Jack Murray to the replay official and I'm sure that that's the point they just have to be well I think it's absolutely I think it's the mark of the ball there's al Ward on the phone there's the replay booth see those monitors but those are eight inch monitors I like the bigger monitors you know Charlie likes you I like a Udrih I'm sure they're looking at the mark I don't know what else that could be at that point and here's something else I'm not sure that everybody knows but all of the replay officials like regular officials the route review tapes in game film and the tape this week he said it was 43 minutes long of all the other plays that they reviewed in the calls and what was right what was wrong and where Corrections should be made we have a little delay here maybe they were having trouble with their communication so they've gone to the phone on the sidelines give them a direct tap into the with the replay booth the three plays by the way ran off 59 seconds on the clock chance to thank our spotters goldberg and tuck panama also helping in the booth Stan Oh take and duck man Joe Costanza of course on top of Continuing numbers game as the afoul of history is over Charlie yes and now we'll all know tell us Jerry because the official covering the play was days the forward progress was in question after further review by the instant replay official the play will stand the ball is word is those that lined the official was days every they get bumped they get bumps and bruises - I'd say Charlie I played a lot of games where I was sure that the officials were dazed well that's a tough statement to make you know that that will come back to haunt I'm loaded well I think the call is a good one from our replay see it was obvious that Elway did not have the artis for the first down an opportunity by the way for the Raiders to discuss their strategy and get themselves ready they're going to get the football now it's such a question of where now do you play return here or do you go for the block I think to go for the block I think into the groin they return let's see what they do he has not kicked it well under pressure today charlie [Applause] yeah they're going for the return they play return and he has a good tape booms it but that the wind does hold it up Bereket she's taken at the 35 yard line the Raiders really got a long way to go they've got the 36-yard punt they've got to go for the touchdown a field goal will not help them however two field goals would how much time we have 2:13 there's a lot of time left the Jets continue to lead seattle san diego by two and minnesota leading washington by five and here the raiders are down by four is the time remaining to 13 the route is days you know the offenses hurry up offense right from the beginning they'll probably have two or three place calls Wilson yeah that's the way to end it all right there if he catches that football at seven points for the Broncos not for the Raiders well read inside-out ball again that's an area in which Mark Wilson has a little problem does not have the velocity on the ball of a John Elway horse who does but in that situation there was time after the ball was thrown for the defense he back to recover and get a hand on it going to Marcus Allen is enough second and 10 Raiders ball their own 36 they have two timeouts remaining in 208 left to Marcus Allen the vodkas doctor the marker is 201 I think we'll probably have a holding call against the Raiders offense and this will be a choice for Denver do they want to take the down or the ten yards Reeves is saying well Joe Collier is saying take him back he wants the yardage he doesn't care about the number of downs he wants to make it any less real estate is possible Henry Lawrence over there arguing with the official well if he's the man they're gonna call holding number 70 offense still second down they get back to the 26 second and 20 well two minutes on the clock now well and we've got a two-minute warning I believe yes and the two-minute warning to both benches the score Denver 14 Raiders talentos in two minutes left in the Coliseum Denver port team and the Raiders 10 Sarah down in 24 Los Angeles the official settling up to make sure they're all on the same page for this critical two-minute period Raiders in their own huddle and I'm sure if I were in that huddle I do want to know who are the guys that have got us to a point where we're in this game at this point in Todd Christensen with nine catches 131 I think it'd be the guy I'd be looking for Marcus although he's healthy has not had a great day and I think again that ankle is bothering his performance still someone there's the man who calls the plays we can only speculate as to what he is sent out on the deal first right now the biggest problem they have is picking up the first down because it's second and 20 Marcus Allen rushed 21 times for 68 yards receiving three for 13 so a total of 81 yards for Marcus out and last time they played his total was 204 rushing in Uzi they - how they trail by four on the sidelines but I think it's after the fact forty yards on the return well we almost saw Randy Robbins pick it up and take it in dodged that one but they didn't dodge this one fall over the head number 32 Marcus Allen as he hooks up right there my card just steps up and takes their stuff off setting in ball fouls on number 73 on each team after the touchdown was scored the touchdown is good the touchdown stands and for Mike harden that is his third touchdown this year and his fourth interception those are big numbers and of course the biggest numbers right now are on the scoreboard as they line up for a shot at an extra point maybe 21 to 10 if they can convert on the extra point and virtually shut the door at this point in the season on the Raiders who are going to have a a desperately difficult time unless they can get some help to come back and catch up with the Denver Broncos scores stand in Denver's going to have a three game lead in the West on everybody oh we continue to see an adventure with a kicking game let's get off the inside and a problem with the was valuable player you just saw him in action number 31 Mike harden two interceptions the last one shut the door on the Raiders he returned it 40 yards for the touchdown and Budweiser will be making a contribution to the United Way on behalf of all of the MVPs selected this season in the National Football League so congratulations to Mike Harden and the entire Denver defense sad long faces on the Raiders side of the line but it's really two turnovers on the day that have been the killers plenty of opportunities for the Raiders three interceptions and to fumble recoveries have taken away the opportunities for them to score simply couldn't recover from that today plus the block feel good looks in my jug field Oh yep by Simon Fletcher rich Carlos kicking off Fulton Walker and Stefan and this is a short script type kick to take away any kind of a major return and that was Matt Millen Los Angeles will go to work as we check all of the scores the Giants defeating Dallas and we would welcome to Cincinnati Cleveland Miami and the audience with the upset over the 49ers Pittsburgh over Green Bay they continued to struggle Tampa Bay over Buffalo st. Louis by three over Philadelphia the Jets that is now official and in the fourth quarter look at this for Kansas City in front of San Diego and Minnesota out in front and the city right now is going to be the team chasing the Denver Broncos Sally one minute in 32 seconds that is the time remaining here and a note to those viewers who have just joined us to watch our house please stay tuned our house will be seen in its entirety you need to be following football except for mountain and Pacific time zone and the program will be seen at its regular time 40-yard line of Denver right now exchanging yardage for time knowing that got the certain advantage of both at this moment now the officials have stopped the car another change hallelujah and now he winds the clock of the chain crew has to catch up on the sidelines Wilson overly Marcus on the side 102 just wanting to stop the clock as Marcus was well covered by Steve Wilson on that play with a minute - you've really got to get down into that endzone and then hope you can get an onside kick you know going down for one touchdown as cosmetic not going to help you Wilson has completed 23 or 40 so for 340 yards in one touchdown but he's been intercepted three times one of which was returned for a school exactly now he goes deep into the far corner interception is saying my garden went up for the interception and Tim Moffett is a the offender who defended on the play until it is incomplete it'll be third down and there is the owner of the Denver Broncos much happier now than he was at the half Pat Bowlen between Pat in our executive producer of NBC Sports Michael Wiseman and coordinating producer of NBC football and today's director is Ted Nathanson and coordinating producer of NFL 86 is John Filippelli he's telecast has been produced by George Finkel and if L 86 produced by Tom Roy and if L 86 directed by Bucky guts a technical director is ready for kelskiy and Sal nagito and Todd Christensen pulls in still another one and the picks of 16 will run his totals Tim for 147 a big day a big day for Mark Wilson but Charlie the the only numbers that are really important are the numbers on the scoreboard which say you'd tell you one thing and that is that the Raiders have fallen three games back in the divisional race and the Denver Broncos out in front 21 to 10 and Seattle losing they they fall three games back also the divisional risk and the city can stay within a couple threes all during this week has talked about the different coping of his team to get that crispness that they had earlier in the year he said we were struggling a little bit and they struggled here today but the Raiders struggled even more let's credit the Bronco defense for forcing turnovers today really that was the difference in the game and that man the orange hat behind the nice people who have made this broadcast possible is a man that will take several vows I'm sure when he gets back to Denver and deservedly show different is differently so the Bronco team is no quick they won the ballgame and you know if the bronze ovens kind of just put it around and the first half and couldn't get anything going the defense kept them in the game you know a good defense and we talked always about what does it take to get you into a championship to keep you in a game and it's a defense Charlie on the days when you sputter you've got to play good defense and that's what they did today they sputtered on offense they stayed close because of the defense Willson throwing the christian sitting just misses him at the goal line we've got 40 seconds left to go here and a reminder next Sunday exciting NFL action your day kicks off with NFL 86 at 12:30 Eastern Daylight Time with your host Bob Costas and shootout in Texas the Raiders battling the Cowboys and possibly the AFC Western Division leading Denver Broncos that we watched today they'll be hosting the San Diego Chargers under their new head coach al sunder so be sure to check your local listings for the game and time in your area and your team plays here on NBC Sports second down and ten at the 24 yard line [Music] it is in the blue Lily right with the coverage and dokey William Deever it will be third down Charlie I'm sure that when the Los Angeles Raiders sit down to review their films and have a chance to look at the way they've sponsored their opportunities they're going to be a very sad team because this certainly was a game that that was well within their grasp in fact a game that they will I'm sure look back and say we should have won the game much as they did in the opening game they came back from Denver a game they lost 38 to 36 saying we should have won that game but it's not that we should owes and we could have that put you in the playoffs at the end of the year it's the we did and the sweep will continue for nine years either the Raiders are the Broncos against each other have won both our games they haven't split strained that is strange and that one really hit Chris jisun inside the 15 I think we broke one of those streets because Denver was ahead at the half and they will win this game so that six-game streak [Applause] Dennison fifty-five Dennison the vendor picks it up a batted ball again just a matter of letting the clock tick off now as Elway in this offense will come on the field and take a few high fives you take them ugly it's beautiful it's a win four interceptions one for a touchdown to fumble recoveries a blocked field goal attempt and the story today is written defense in the last two games before today the Broncos have been a minus five they had not taken the ball away from their opponents they turned it over five times here today they've exactly reversed that stat as they're a +5 in the turnover ratio Dan Reeves the winningest coach in the history of the Broncos Denver stays Custer Blee in front in the West the park with its final countdown and the score the Denver Broncos 21 the Los Angeles Raiders Tim and Tom flurries now with a record of five and four as for the Raiders and the Broncos record is it very comfortable eight and one as they start the second half of the season on a high note Charlie the first half of the season is for positioning you close out those championships in the second half and the Denver Broncos have done a great job to put themselves at a healthy advantage as they start into the second half of the season and they put some giant roadblocks in the way of the Raiders who now must not only recover and play great football the last half of the season but have to hope that they get a lot of help they've got to see some people really knock the heck out of Denver to help them out or they have no chance of getting back into the chief championship race the affor is four losses in the lost column they still have a shot at a wild card they do but they have some tough games to play both of these teams have tough schedules to play out charlie and i think playing the AFC West and the NFC East for that is almost an impossible road always ten
