480 and you got bill Allman playing very steady at shortstop and getting the job done Pryor is playing at third again you got Morrison still bothered by a full leg muscle northagen in left field lemon in center coots is playing right and place the Baines against the left-hander because Scott McGregor awfully tough on left-handers throws a lot of slow breaking stuff and veins certainly a good fastball here would have a lot of trouble with him so they're spotting him against certain hit left-handers but he's not playing today Baines there we go and leading it off will be al Bumbry hitting 240 one with no homers one run batted in Bumbry a much better hitter than that he's a guy that liked our round the floor lumbering for Baltimore's the guy who gets their offense going he gets on base he steals second and can score in any kind of a hit Perry he scored 118 runs and yet that's what you're talking about he really did the job done he can score from first on a double and on the hit and run he made score from first on a single White Sox a-15 lost three Baltimore so far is one three lost for first pitch of the ballgame on the way fastball Anthony is strength off rich Johnson talking with the various players it seems like they feel that the early weeks of the season when the weather is wet and cold it really doesn't affect a pitcher as much as it does the hitter there's a slider at the knee strike off the Hitler's almost intimidated in swinging the bat because it it hurts his hand so he doesn't hit them all exactly right you're absolutely right Carrie and one thing about it you try to use a bigger knob bat so you're not as quick you're just trying to get singled two strikes are nothing the bench no hi they play him around the left he's got pretty good power that way you know home run against us in Baltimore his only home run of the year but it was a good one against the odds it beat us you know last year this fella Bunbury stole 20 bases were thrown out only five times that's a ground ball Verna's art has it fires look at that little guy go down the line but he's an easy out one gone here you talk about those hands he just broke that bat he reached for a ball on away from and hit it right into the bed he got a few bees in his hand rusty Kuntz is in right field today nard Hagan has have left at lemon is in center Dwyer last year was with Boston he's from around here is the airy yeah he's from Chicago listen Tinley Park jim dwyer he's modeled a few uniforms there's a fastball in there for a strike off many years in the Cardinal organization he was leading the league in the minor leagues and would come up with the Cardinals he never seemed to get on track but now he plays first base in the outfield and a tough out its wings a little bouncing ball to Johnson out of easy to pitcher covering Pisa labora Johnson - rich Danson there's another case have a little uh bumblebee in the hands after swinging a dollar they didn't get any batting practice before the game so certainly they don't know how it feels up there yet while iris Aloha bruja about that I thought I'd bring it up coach you know the volumn Orioles were told that there would be no batting practice today and they came out to the ballpark and they saw Chet lemon and Tony Bernard out there taking batting practice so here now is John Lowenstein and he hits a long drive left field darn Hagen is there he'll get it to retire the side plenty more about the little beef well later went through free nothing across we go into the bottom of the first no score we going on the bottom of the first bill omens gonna lead it off Harry Scott McGregor 6 190 pounds he's 26 years old what a year he had last year 20 and 8 we're in the area of 3.30 - he started 36 games so far against the White Sox last year he was 200 in a good e area of 1.65 fastball curveball slider got a great move the first base he doesn't try it overpower you and when you talk about a whitey Ford type pitcher here he is right here Scott McGregor one of many fine pitchers there's a fastball in there for strike call the bill omen hitting 286 Perry they've got three siyoung Award winners on their ballclub now they have another SIA Award winner not too long ago well they used a Cuellar yeah that's right one strike and nothing good fastball right in there [Applause] I play with a guy named Dean chance that had 11 shutouts in 25 wins one here there's a smash knocked down by the sensei picks it up and throws him out boy that ball was hit like a bullet a good saving there by de sensei who kept the ball in front of them young third baseman watch this now he just makes himself stay down on this ball it gets his hands out in front of him now watching his body and stay in front he knows he doesn't have to panic because the ball is hit hard he'll make it throw and get him easy so you see you don't have to panic my dragger last year 120 lot of state with an earned run average of three point three two 27 years old from Southern California came up with Baltimore originally in 76 here is Tony burners are batting right-handed first pitch in there for a strike call burners are hitting 387 with one homer that evens the count on the ball on a strike bottom of the first no score first game of the doubleheader the second game will not be televised high pop foul out of play burners are Dissidia 250 right-handed he's only been up eight times he's 2 for 8 left-handed he's hitting 435 he looks like he's been here for about five years is that way to a good start making all the plays in the field fastball inside the last five men on the White Sox batting order have yet to drive in a run this year Johnson lemon nard egg and Koontz and Pryor Barlow three balls two strikes birthday greetings to gordon Alcock 50th birthday wow that that got a good cut but Gregor known for good control doesn't walk too many they're playing in the pull ah tear up that'll be easy Dwyer under the wall they won't catch the wind bothered him well that wind now is moving all the way around it look like he's blowing straight out the center about one pole and the other is blowing to left Billy Burke [Applause] stirs here watching the game tonight this gets a big hand [Music] Mangia are leading in the National League East Los Angeles and the West Los Angeles with ten and to Montreal with eight in two Cardinals is second seven and two in the East Atlanta's second in the West six and five Oakland way out in front in the West and the American League with 14 and one the White Sox is second Cleveland leading in the Eastern Division in a virtual tie with the Yankees for those Indians of just swept three in a row for the Royals two balls no strikes boy it looks like McGregor is gonna pitch him inside the way they're playing him at third base distant stays guarding the line Belanger is in shortstop playing way over towards third and the left fielder is over towards the line to would maybe see Bumbry over in left center two balls no strikes P how to cut he took something off on his slider and Fisk was way out in front two balls in the strike temperature about 48 degrees you you [Music] not over cut crowd here a lot of room for you coming over [Applause] fastball high on outside one ball no strikes quite a story about this gran behind the plate he was with the Minnesota organization and got his free agency and one of signing with this club played in Rochester then came up last year did well there's ball 2 outside McGregor missed with an off-speed pitch I would have to say hairy 15 home runs it's pretty good for a guy that came up midseason not considered as good a defensive catcher as Rick Dempsey but a good second-straight yeah left-hand hitter the pitch to luzinski high pop foul back looks like he's trying to go to right field boy look where siccolas playing over by the 375 foot side and right center B hits at the right fiscal score easy I know about that the feel is pretty what okay see it two balls in the strike throws over to first the runner back jim dwyer playing first base the Chicago boy I wonder what's the matter with our we'll have to check it out the bench outside ball three Lamar Johnson on deck you know he kiss you a lot of motion and they'll turn the ball over another time he'll come quick and so fast balls inside so he changes his motion three one punch laughs damn right sanchin letters of first and second two out mom are way overdue yeah that's unusual for McGregor he has are down the great control last year he walked only 58 men thirty-six starts how many innings did he pitch he pitched 250 two innings walked only 58 that's why it was twenty and eight and he struck out twice as having nineteen let's get him now love our Johnson looking for his first Rigby of the year little over one lemon abductor McGregor why don't know where that pitch was and flair mony empire behind the plates that it was inside Lamar is one out of ten for the year he wore this club out last year throughout his career the bet slow curve outside ball to say he hit in 23 straight games against Baltimore till that last game that's quite a record here's ray Miller the pitching coach coming out I'll say it great Miller is a pump out of that Bamberger he learned all he knew about being a pitching coach from him because he was in the minor league system for Baltimore while Bamberger was the pitching coach with the major league club so they tell me he's well qualified [Music] fighting whatever you had to say to McGregor it gathers at first and second you know it's easier for us to talk about our pitches because we see them so much but the opposing pitcher is tough to say Lozinski playing it safe at first base and still amar let him hit Harry three balls no strikes get a far looking down Bobby winkles coaching at third base later pencil at first base he's hitting though he's got to get a strike right where he wants he can't swing at his pitch the delivery looking for his first runs batted in lemon is left a lot of been on base and he's well overdue he's hit a few balls hard but that was the time to get us on the board with a base hit that I give this five out of 23 you know some frontier area make a long afternoon short bases-loaded two out Levin digging in McGregor's pitch fastball [Music] [Applause] lemon looks at Bobby winkles Dennis Martinez warming up to Baltimore Martinez so right-hander the vet well strikes McGregor can't find the plate when I lemon taking a look he's hitting Harry he's got to make sure he gets a strike belt high before he swings two balls no strikes he's the only one in a park that's had batting practice before the game bases are jammed three the ball over revolves those strikes lemon looking down again go I gotta take one [Applause] does sun say the third basement over-talking three balls no strikes lemon the hitter batting 217 but he's got a left-hander out there and wheeling the ball into him Crouch a little bit check three miles nose the path [Applause] limits first RBI the year [Applause] he hasn't driven in Iraq Kerry Fife Guardian right here I look for a fastball first pitch and hit it out of here he could do it darn Hagin three singles of 15 Drive now this is a real good crippled shooter right now I like him anybody else I say take one go punch [Applause] it's remarkable that's why baseball is such a great game there is no farm sheet on it I don't care what a guy done all his life on this given day you might do just the opposite you know Harry they say a pitcher can go to spring training in three weeks get readiness a net it takes a lot of work and a lot of pitching to get your control they see your waiver a little tap towards third the sensei's got it boy he didn't have a good swing at all so the Indians with only one run no hits no errors three left boy oh boy Wow picture out there what you want is a real good cut [Music] say you didn't have much of a swing out in front one to nothing the umpires are Jim Blair maligned of white Ted Hendry at first Jim Evans at second and Mel Clarke at third Richard Dotson came to the White Sox in a tree with father Bosley we sat down in frost and napped to California no no Harry both damp and frost in the minor leagues and that's very you never figured that because Frost had a great year his first year with him won 16 ballgames but he's hurt his arm in his back nap who has never lived up his potential there's a guy that can throw the ball hard one minute the next time you wouldn't throw it so he's in the minor leagues here's Ken singleton to lead it off for the Orioles members of the st. Clair basketball team on hand here tonight Clement Barbara brown from Warren bill single on a switch-hitter and stepping in now getting ready against rich Datsun how long before we're gonna see the floor back in the lab waiting for the weather to get a little bit thought about it you may not play until June it's a bad kind of a day for a guy with any little leg muscle they'll be playing hey are you looking over here Roger buzzy my favorite ground keeper there's a pinch of fastball over low his grandfather used to put the get feel up around third-base so I could bunt down the third base line four base hits and then take it down when a White Sox game in town Roger and his dad gene are so tickled to death about the condition of the outfield because that expenditure of $10,000 fixing the drainage system in right field and when the season is over they'll do the same thing at left field in center field they ran out of time they wanted to do that before this season started but what a difference it's made there's a pitch a little bit low Roger was telling me that it's doubtful whether they could have played opening day and they do 51,000 you know with thee with last year's conditions ray balls no strikes franco todson three much space ball on WGN television nine Chicago America's number one station for sports well you hear both the Cubs and the whites on three one bench God said breeze through the first inning got bumpy on a broken bat ground ball a second than little ground ball at first by Dyer and he got a low esteem for the fly ball the left three balls two strikes singleton swings laden he founds it back single that would good power to all fields they're playing him around a pull but he'll go the other way in left-center field I was Nord Hagen he's got to be careful who that ball straight away to left on him especially now it's cold Joe deSario here with his family pulling for the White Sox today three balls two strikes regards to my good friend Pete gallio's recuperating at all 3 2 pitch over the centerfield wall Harry I would have to say though that would have been a triple but that's the third home run against us or that center field wall with good pitching you know I don't understand why you want to put offensive [Music] well singleton now is in two of the three home runs with Baltimore's into the club there's a fastball right down the middle this ball is way up against the back wall it doesn't just go over the fence it's hit a mile we struggle with four bases on balls to make a run singleton swings the bat once and gets it back flag blowing straight out all you got to do is get it in the air today here's Crowley fastball in there a strike ball Crowley's has been one of the great pitch hitters for them that he has well I tell you they got so much information of their sketchbook you can't fight it but you can put the player that you want to look up two strikes are nothing on Terry Crowley the designated hitter today there's a pitch a little low and inside last yearI at 288 with 67 hits in 12 homeruns well at something and 50 RBIs as part-time player and pinch-hitter mostly pinch-hitter speaker Crowley goes down swinging Harry listen to this he's got a lifetime batting average of 274 pinch-hitting with 90 hits and 329 times at bat 3 home runs 49 ribbies that owner I was a second hit off of a godson both over that's under be a wall remember Larry Hisle hit one that's of making his third start there's a pitch inside white socks hit the road opening up in Detroit tomorrow afternoon off-speed pitch low Harry if this game gets a little rain or a they may might have to take a bus there he wouldn't have to go to park sleep all the way to Detroit dan graham is a hitter their catcher left-handed batter they've been platooning their catches Dempsey against left-handers graham against right now the White Sox have a charter for after the game two balls no strikes yeah I feel plays Graham straight away good fastball Tiffany this guy's got good power Harry the umpire behind the plate Blair Moe one of the fitter balls and strike up fires in the league he really lets you know what's going on two balls and a strike stays right in the middle three there Swatt gonna change out but he miss that evens the count of 2 & 2 my damn gram last year with Baltimore got 15 homers 26 years old out of the Minnesota Twins organization - - bet he's struck both Crowley ins and grey about unchanged ups you know Harry if the White Sox need something would be a left-handed catcher or another left-handed outfielder because we just don't have enough left-handers on that bench to sense a a third-base he's driven in one run this year batting only 195 get a good look at that because that average won't stay there very long fine ballplayer this guy gets the long ball a fine fielder good arm can do things with the bat got you on the way care of a beauty what I think of the sensei I think of how he goes to his right and makes diving stops against there's so many times and throws us out two men around or runners in on a home run by Ken singleton there's a drive center feel that I'm going back [Music] [Applause] [Music] w spectacular Mother's Day fireworks display following the game that's Friday night made the 8th against the Royal tickets are available at the Comiskey Park box office and all white socks and ticket tron outlets his rusty Kuntz leading it off first bench blown away so how many minutes that evens account upon on a strike coach really had a great spring it for homeruns the second in the club and RBIs and it'll hit that ball out to right center left center but they're playing over towards left center [Applause] signals to Center yeah Harry you gotta get him in against left-handers he ignored Aegon and Johnson they've got to play against them now to bring a prior now I'm good handler in the bat he's only been about three times had two hits prior made a great bunt at the Nordine get on second on that error in the ninth inning he laid on a beautiful putt the sense they couldn't handle it they gave him a hit you know what made even tougher was steward was shorted about 95 miles an hour I just knows Rose had two more hits last night he is really a way to a great start to meet about 52 tied a record or whatever well he needed 74 going in and I think it's down to around 60 now are less he'll passed a Musil this year as the hitting us player in National League history most trouble is prior was gonna bump the pitch was low look at that did sense a come charging it I'll tell you what Arry if I'm funny and he does that to me I got to give him a little action briar looking down at Bobby winkles how about a hit and run right here coach runner at first base nobody out fire good handler too bad good fastball strike call my dentist sensei was charging it jim dwyer playing first base in chicago boy gonna have to put the dwyer i guess because the weight the sensei he's coming in he'll throw him out a second it's a slow track you can't run too good what a big lead he's got over there now the bench there's a good but they're gonna throw in a first base holding MacGregor thought of second base desire but realize Koontz was too close to the bag we'd be taking a big gamble boy the big lead at ku said at first base really helped him because he was off at the crack of the bat here you see it it was not a good bunt and watch how he feels it he's gonna think about it he looks at second base but changed his mind because Koons got a whale of a job good baserunning on part of Coates there's Bellomo now with a chance to drive in the go-ahead run we're the bottom of the second slow curve is low ball one boy almond hit a shot right off the chest of the sensei but the sense they got the ball and threw him out the pitch on the way swim [Applause] [Music] that is the way I get a tennis ball this is my pipe Orion watch it go by and though up look out nobody can get it ha ha ha ha boy rusty it's alright I'll tell you one thing here your wee beginnings the brakes against this club what's that let's keep going you know I gotta pass this along just to give you an idea you know Baltimore comes in on a weekend next time and school is out baseball's established season disestablish to have a Friday night game you know that the twine a doubleheader would have drawn so many more people that playing these two games here today but Jerry Reinsdorf an Indian art there's a pitch for burners are Pop's it up third baseman - sensei under the Bob and Tony didn't know where to go he was in the way the catcher got in the way of the umpire and he did for her to run but he better go to first base because of that guy drops the ball he's standing at home plate picking his nose [Applause] here which is unusual of firts a team's first trip in as they know that Baltimore is not hitting and they know that Baltimore is without any Murray and they would rather win a couple of ballgames now before fewer people then perhaps lose them later but if it raining as Friday night when they came back then you'd wind up with a lot of trouble here's Fiske [Applause] [Music] but it's refreshing to know that the owners you in the shoulder here you see every deep beautiful but you never see a catch you're making better but your life look at this ball the sensei lets it roll and it's not going to go follow pick it up okay here's listen ski now gonna get hold of one here oh you got these different angles ah the pet swallow he's way out in front boy took a little something off of a bass ball I think Lipinski's gonna have to start going to right field till he learns these pitches a little more I think the bastards had the grass trail this second the runner back down almond just got back safely there's two outs young man you get picked off a second the Masters have that grass manicured perfectly kept the ball fair all the way Dennis Martinez warming up in the bullpen for Baltimore that evens a Canada bond and a strike boy they give Lozinski all a right field look at that defense Perry I don't think they're gonna give a pitch inside plus it's bad so he's gonna have to go that way because he's balls tailing away from her swung right through that it makes it tough Harry when you come from another league in you know four pitchers two strikes and the ball runners at first and second stop come on a fastball Lowell izinski goes down swinging and it's one run three hits no errors two left at the end of second the White Sox - all the ball one cicadas of Japanese descent and Nancy plays a little Japanese music she is great yeah at the s warp upward Sakana takes a little bit of low one ball no strikes push the second game for them Steve stone yeah the scion the ward winner well come on out and see that game we oughta have a pretty good ballgame with Barrios pitching while two is outside rich dance another hi pop foul outside first Lamar Johnson has room in he makes McTeer but the wind is blowing straight out they just held it up for Lamar so that will bring up marked the launch of the shot stop [Music] what my round overly on well I'm sure takes a loan outside you know area just shows you no matter how great a player you are things happen and we made the error the other night and you know when they asked him about he said I just blew it he didn't give any excuse about the weather that my hands were cold files are back he's got enough gold and gloves to fill up his cellar they're celebrating the 100th anniversary of the Michael Reese Medical Center this year barber bloomin Miss Henry Loeb or the co-chairman one ball one strike lookouts went out of the way are we talking about hospitals and stuff I'm gonna go over and watch an open heart operation that's gonna be really some kind of a thing for me to see I never had the opportunity you've gone through an average yes but I want to see how they do it is well don't second-guess it I gotta sit upstairs two balls and a strike Melania takes a hot tub rich stepatech against them that's pretty good coach three balls and a strike one up total one White Sox strike on the outside corner a breaking ball you know Dodson says he doesn't throw a slider if he doesn't then his fastball just slides over like a slider that's what it does it cuz it looks like it's something quick the curveball is you don't throw it as hard I think he loves his changeup that's become one of his best pitches he want phalange hitting one 11 so with a runner at first one out the Landrieu can run here's al Bumbry bounced out his first time what up what up - no one white socks first game of a doubleheader boy would be ready for anything right here Weaver is gonna make this club start to do something they don't have the power in a lineup today except for singleton really not even 1:30 yet so if you're around anywhere near the ballpark come on over we'd like to see it Bunbury a little tap it goes foul one strike two nothing Belanger thirty-eight years old but he can still run you know in those bumpy area I guess he doesn't get too many changeups but the first time up he broke his ban on a changeup away from him that time he chased one there he's strictly a fastball hitter it's tough to pitch to me so small and when you get that changeup over he has trouble with it one strike a nothing Steve stone in the second game against Francisco Barrios little pop foul down the third baseline nobody could reach it fair would you say it's the same kind of a ball that burners are hit to win again won the game with it it was fair has I don't want to see here you know Oakland will be here for their first trip this year June the second third and fourth all night games that's Tuesday Wednesday and Thursday night June the second third and fourth the hottest team in baseball managed by Billy Martin that's what the price of admission in itself Bumbry popped it out that out of easy prior makes the cap prior has a lot of difficulty on pop-ups as you notice right there he strained a little bit the wind blowing it away from why on the next homestand starting May the 8th will have Kansas City Cleveland and Texas Kansas City Royals the defending American League champs in a weekend series and Friday night May the 8th as a Mother's Day spectacular firework show following the game here's jim dwyer the chicago boy hey let's do it over this end you know when you're a catcher you're giving a target down low and the pitcher throws one high you gotta really jump out of their fist making sure he just kept that ball in front of him pop round that glove and he caught it [Music] Dreyer was born in Evergreen Park raised in Oak Park and now lives in Tinley Park [Applause] boy he slipped he was going to go but Jesus my and then he slipped getting back Fisk had trouble throwing over a dower if he did through right away eat ahead him you know glide wire was a free agent he signed a three-year contract with the Orioles signed originally by the Cardinals a lot of minor league experience Cedar Rapids Modesto Arkansas Tulsa then up with the Cardinals then with Milwaukee look away they play Mary they play him around towards the line are taking Kunz off the line and lemon is straightaway in center wire is credited with better than six years of the big leagues slow curve outside while three john lowenstein will be next come back and get it now you don't want to walk this guy there's your defense as you see Pryor is way off the bag at third three balls no strikes that's right in there boy be careful these three rum pitches jump out of a ballpark when the winds blow now he's looking for nothing but fastball right here - banner gone runner at first three balls and a strike and Dotson's pitch strike taro fastball the answer mustard on that one in a good spot to about an inch on an outside corner if he tried to port he wouldn't hit it too good and now Belen she'll be going on the pitch two out three balls two strikes Lamarr is gonna play behind him right now now the pitch to Dwyer here it is walk him push that ball and the second walk for Dotson that's it in three starts walk three and seven and 2/3 innings of first line two and three and two-thirds innings when he was knocked out by the Red Sox the next time and he's walked two in this inning along Lowenstein a tough out you got to keep the ball down away on him he got a break with Texas let him go he about three years ago and he got himself a job here with Baltimore a good pinch hitter a wild pitch back to the screen the rudder is advanced the second and third [Music] no question about that one it's skipped into the dirt and by the kitchen come on rich funny thing about dachshund he hits these streets when he just seems to go wild you know I think a lot of times he worries so much about his form that he forgets about the plate that's one reason I can get because he has got such good stuff that if he gets it over they're gonna have trouble hitting it one ball no strikes runners at second and third Loewenstein aware the fact that if he gets a base hit his team will take the lead the patch 12 get me mr. Jane Joe that's his best pitch believe it or not George Brennan company here token up the next homestand maybe eighth ninth and tenth weekend tickets now available strike a good fastball two strikes in a while top of the third two-to-one Whiteside the lands are down the line change here's the fetch just missed inside to him - one thing about Lowenstein he's seen every pitch he can throw and Harry if that's not a slider I don't know what is it that supposed to be his curveball then it's a very quick curveball two balls two strikes big pitch a little tap tough play for burgers are he throws saving beaten on a run scored the only cow a great effort by the kid and he almost got him there was a break for Baltimore F balls hit right on the end of the fat and burners arse playing the pole [Music] watch his play he goes to his right he gets it but he can't get much on it because he's off balance and look yeah he'd beat it funny kind of a poor game so it's all tied up now at 2 and 2 and that brings up singleton who hit a homer Lowenstein will get it run batted in for that that walked a Belanger has come back to on whoa went inside the wild pitch really cost of the road because he doesn't score on that ball Riley want to and wild Fuji can him believe anybody but himself yeah the walk is bad enough but the wild pitch really cause on the run because we'd have the bases loaded right now here comes the pitching coach of the white side Brown Schuler see I see that a nice close ballgame up in Boston yesterday Airy 16a that's par for the course of Fenway eleven runs in the first two innings and then the Red Sox almost caught him I'm surprised at Eckersley hairy I didn't think he threw well the last time we faced him and I guess yesterday he got knocked out of there in a hurry well he always looks great against us you know they Texas got7 to the first for the second then Boston came back with five and their half of the second here's the strike call evens it up a ball and a strike runners at first and third the game is tied 2-2 first game of a doubleheader the second game will not be televised but it will be Sports Radio 78 WBBM radio swings any thompson father that was his curveball right there it's now an hour oldest game and we're in the top of the third Harry we kissed at seven o'clock play no more two strikes out of all runners first and third left-hand hitter whitey Ken singleton who homered his first time at bat over the centerfield wall grab all headed for left beyond the base in another runner say he didn't want to swing at that ball he tried to haul back in a ball you got about a half a swing at it it was in on his fist see we could see it see he didn't want to swing at the ball tough play for almond he almost gets it files thinking how to play anyways so as you see they've got a couple of runs with some ball that have you got infield two RBIs and the ball is not into yet balanced baseball we got we got one run on four watch after two out and the other one that ball hit off the end of the bat tell you it's a funny game they should be leading by a run of one run and they are well instead of one to nothing on Singleton's Homer 3 to 2 in the top of the third is Crowley Dotson hasn't had much pitching luck but his own wildness has heard of them here's the pitch swung a myth three to two baltimore leads top of the third [Applause] sly Bonneville SC a lot to be caught nor Hagen is there so it has two rounds on two hits no errors two left we go to the box got their first run the first two men went out the first inning Fisk Lozinski Johnson and lemon walked in succession and Counting for the run [Applause] I'd like to see that again looks like a harvest first base that's why was this Keys gonna have to try to hit him to watch him go the other way now senator they got the TV in the club [Applause] doesn't show it [Applause] so here's lemon now with a lemon it's got to take a couple of shots the right feel right now it might help forget the base hit big hole between first and second [Applause] hey buds [Applause] the White Sox got something going looks like lemon - they just make a puppet he pushes it by the pitcher of beauty and he beats it out boy that's a beautiful button that first slide by lovin you see another angle you notice how McGregor was going to his right he was looking for a sacrifice but kids those slide like that you break your neck there's northagen runners at first and third the only thing you do with that slice get your uniform dirty there was a guy named pepper Martin the wild horse of the Osage and he made a career out of those kind of slides yeah but I want to tell you that's that pepper Martin brothers at first and third nobody out ground ball foul come on Daugherty get a good cut up there looks like Nord he's chasing his pitch Harry watch lemons at first slow to break your arm your hands your wrists your shoulder and your neck on a play like that you'd feel playing back willing to give us a run for the double play there's the double play here's the ride out at second out at first boy he has had two of the weakest slings against McGregor who is changing speeds on darting but Lamar Johnson scores the run and it's tied up here's the swings down on his pitch he just hits an easy DoublePlay ball of Landru lemon almost gets him Sakana gets it over there in a good play and that's why that second baseman has got a cheat on that play there's rusty Kuntz he's single and scored eventually in the second inning 12 in him is 3-3 tie - better out of runners in - up development blender the shot center face it so rusty is two out of two [Music] well Andrew got his glove on the ball but couldn't come up with it Blanchard's gotta go a long way now I gets his glove on it but he can't come up what hits him on the heel bounced in the center field so that's a third hit of the inning but the double play really hurt about two three years ago he too got that ball but he's getting older now how old is he 38 devil smart Tina's a right-hander warming up in the bullpen there's Pryor taking a curve McGregor had arm problems a few years ago but his comeback and he's really a gutty pitcher but he hasn't pitched too much this year and he's having trouble with his control there's that smash nice play by Belanger the throw the second is too late [Applause] play backhanding the ball rolling into left field but Joe Smith the plan boy coots really beats the play now watch the umpire evans he really holes up before he calls this play they chose it and like a Kissinger throw now watch him coots beast is playing the umpire now make sure he's almost gonna call him up and he said safe yes below but he drove it around with a scratch hit the second there you see it again Boyle's angles are great [Applause] I'm scoring Evon lined a single er left but Lowenstein's through a 1/2 gram deep eyed rusty hey Louis Steen got a great jump on his ball and throws it in a hurry now not anybody's full except that he made a great throw one rod star there were 5 hits of the inning and only one run there's that ball all the way as soon as that ball was hit he ran as hard as he could he released in a hurry and the throw bounced up by he almost knocked it out of the glove of Graham Coates but it just didn't happen if he made a hook slide he might have beat it but a tough play because the ball beat him by two steps you believe five hits and one run in an inning unbelievable here's Crowley leading off he rips it deep high and deep to right-center but Chet drifts back and he makes the catch near the warning track what gets me toe they got two runs on to it they didn't even get out of the infield last Baltimore so it's just one of those ball games that you aren't seeing the greatest of baseball well I guess not three runs eight hits for the White Sox three runs three hits for Baltimore we've had a couple of but singles about four worm burgers that have scored three if it runs for the two clubs combined today and we've seen four consecutive walks by one of the finest control pitchers in the major leagues now here's two cents a gram but hit the first pitch and flied out I think the hardest of all we've hit as lamar's yeah Kyle couch got a good solid signal and Alban got a good solid single five hits and only get one run the Sox have left seven men on in three innings well we had literally kept this guy in the game here's to Syd say you hit a deep line drive to center field that jet made a fine catch on back in the second inning pitches a ball ball one lemons so deep right now he's gonna make sure he doesn't get that deep he is out there by the track so they did a couple out there today and one about 25 feet over the center field full fen fence there's a ball on the way ball to to this sensei who has a bunt single and five at-bats in this series it's a good idea to play deep on a day with the wind blowing out because the short fly ball is gonna blow to you a little bit too so Dotson pitching from behind he had a razor-sharp first-inning slider just outside of the knees ball three and those strikes he had a he retired Baltimore in order on just seven pitches the first inning then a long wait in the dugout McGregor walked four straight after the first two men were retired two Sox taking a one nothing lead and then Dotson gave up a tremendous home run to singleton in the second to tie if there's ball four he walked him that's a third walk issued by Dotson today Dodson to me looks like he's really trying to be a little too cute he and bump guard in the last two outings if we're trying to peck away I don't know why this is a big ballpark and when you get behind and you will get bases on balls you're gonna have some long balls hit off and that's what happened when singleton hit that ball over to Sarah field fence behind him and then had to come in with one and of course when Baltimore got two runs in a third even though Loewenstein and singleton were completely handcuffed on the pitch they both wound up with run scoring singles because that's that walked two men and while pitched him into scoring position so he has nobody to blame but himself we're tied at three here in the fourth inning here's Sakata who fouled out the Lamar Johnson near the Baltimore first base dugout his first time up he is all for 32 lifetime against the White Sox blown away ball one when he first played against us he used to hit little pop flies and that weren't even very high to the infielders and get jammed they'd hold a bat down at the end I noticed now he chokes up a lot he's one of these guys that has bounced around this is his third year in the bigs he's been up and down about six times between Milwaukee where he started his big-league career in Baltimore it seems to be a good triple-a hitter but he just can't seem to solve major league pitching he takes a strike there it's one on one he fits into this plan here because they tell me he can play short and second for them and he does a good job at it he replaces Kiko Garcia on the roster the Baltimore Orioles sent him to Houston 1 1 pitch Socata check swing and it's just inside ball two and strike one as Dotson jammed him with a fastball that son just missed walking vilandra of course was the cardinal sin in that two-run third inning he got a lifetime 219 hitter up there no threat to hit one out he hasn't homered in five years and that's inferred him on with one out and Bollinger eventually wound up scoring at that time the tying run bouncing ball up the middle Alban makes tremendous stop but they can't get the play as per desired apparently didn't see the ball as almond tried to flip it while he was laying down behind the bag but he made a sensational play to get there I don't think he watched the ball out of his glove because this is a sensational play now watch him dime he slides along the ground he flips a little bit high but I don't know what happened it's a perfect throw but he missed it he didn't watch it he just plain missed that throw that's all he took his eye off the ball watch the other angle now watch this play they're gonna get burnt as I at the air oh what a sensational play by Oliver look at this it's a perfect so yep oh wow it looked like he just didn't see the ball because he didn't watch it out of the glove he might have been looking at alban's hat I don't know what his almonds cap flew up there and that might have taken his eye off the ball at a rate Bernard gets the air here's Bollinger with runners at first and second and one out Joe instead of thinking one out he might have been thinking too you notice how he closed his glove in the hurry there's a ball the Belanger who walked and scored his first time up Hickey warming up in the bullpen for the White Sox boy what else could happen I don't know we've seen just about everything on this one the Sox have had a terrible record the last couple of years in makeup games and I mentioned that on the radio side I hope we can turn that around today ball tunable Angier looks like he was gonna bud come on stop being so careful yes Jim the ball over against this guy he's got good stuff and let let nature take its course he get too cute on Derek he's had plenty of work he doesn't have any excuse that he hasn't been in pitching much no it's his third start McGregor now that's another story - inaudible Angie he bounces one foul 2 & 1 runners at first and second one out were in the top of the fourth and a wild and wooly 3-3 tie looks like fisk is trying to slow him down a little bit right now he's taking a lot of time before he gives them a sign as you see hickey in your picture Kevin Hickey from Chicago Kevin Hickey is at a great start in his rookie year nobody is reached against the young left-hander in three brief appearances Blanchard dumps a bunt down to third base side it's a beauty bare hand pickup prior throw not in time bases loaded well he showcased it before they still played him on us that he dumped it down a third-base side that's the third bunt hit we've had in this ballgame the first for the Orioles that was a changeup boy in a perfect pitch to punt well if you can't dead in a stick on a changeup you don't belong in the big leagues that's why I said that butter priors was so good the other night when he got Stewart's horn at about 95 and he made a perfect bunt well Belanger has been a real pest he has walked and scored and now he's bunted his way on to load up the basis and to bring up the top of the order and al Bumbry who is nobs a second and popped up to Brier third here's another look at here's that but now watch it's the perfect punch fire plays it well but it's down the line and he's off the bag because if he does hit the ball you don't pull so Pryor had a flame off the bag and now you got a speedy guy running in Bumbry just hope to get a play at the plate maybe they're playing well they're playing back all the way around except a third and even at first they're playing back so they're gonna get the run no White Sox on I have about six on the board right now there's Bunbury he's overdue he's hitless in five previous at-bats in the series fouls it back on one tough guy to double up descents a is the runner at third socata is on its second in Bollinger at first the bottom three hitters have reached here after Graham led off with a deep fly to center Joe here's the situation that you catchers got to tell a pitcher and throw home how many times is he a ball go by the pitch he looks the second looks home and finally only gets one you have really got to keep awake because he's concentrating more on his pitching and the plate Wow Bumbry appears at least at the moment let's hope we don't put the hex on he doesn't appear to be seeing the ball real well at least well I think he's a fastball hitter Johnny's thrown him mostly changeups the first time he grounded the second was a ball away from that was a changeup that he turned over and then he got him on a little slow breaking ball that he hit the first base he's he's a good fastball hitter two strikes the count on Bunbury big pitch for Dotson fouls it away on the third base side upstairs and it's still two strikes I don't like his chances of striking him out away he might strike strike him out with something on his fist [Music] the infield is pulled up about half way hoping of course if the ground ball is hit right at somebody they'll come by way of home plate to preserve at least a tie here unless they can get a sure double play and bunbury's we mentioned is very tough to double up two strikes the count just outside he almost got him looking with that slider one ball two strikes palermo d empire behind the plate is a good umpire one thing about him the hitters respect him because he calls his strikes with such authority and in a hurry i like that myself yeah after a diet of sherlock's and Kaiser and Melones boy and Maloney really makes you wonder what he said he was the original here's the pitch hey papa that should prevent the lead run from scoring now all would having trouble going out has to make the catch over the shoulder and the Sox got a break widest it's a was off the bag and not tagging on that play I'll never know you know what gets me to for some reason love it didn't even move he might have been able to make that catch but he just stood there in centerfield dorneget was over to the line he had no chance and when you're playing around towards left center the center fielders got to come in on that ball or what a tough play for us right he isn't even moving and look how far he has to go to catch this ball and Lemmons nowhere in sight at the sense I've been tagging at third he might have been able to score because almond figuring that he was tagging wheel to throw that brought rain before it came into the catcher I think your observation of wondering why the guy on third wasn't going back I don't know I either because once he saw him struggling he could have went back absolutely a ball drops he's gonna score anyway that's a big out right there oh you bet here's Dwyer let's see if we can't wiggle out of this one boy thanks for those big gloves they have now oh man with that big glove playing short Dwyer is tapped out and walked and scored he's over one he pops him foul out of play on the third base side and it landed on a camera that can bounce back up into the upper deck so somebody got a souvenir they weren't expecting that yeah that's all I caught her right for his two sons he's got two sons right there he made a whale of a catch he's got his gloves on to hold one - Jimmy Dwyer who lives in Tinley Park you're up it was born and raised at Evergreen Park so he is a Chicago lad and despite the fact he's been in the big leagues for six plus years Jimmy this is only his sixth official at-bat against the White Sox he's still looking for that first major league hit I guess Chicago there's a pitch down and in the ball one of one right now we got a force at any base two out now all the runs become unearned because of the air on Berta's art that's too much figure for me Joe I just want an out me to drop still coming in Jimmy yeah oh there's a drive down the right-field line but it's hooking foul oh oh that was a changeup high end and he was way out in front one ball two strikes 3-3 tie here in the top of the fourth we have had everything in this one come on Richard let's get out of this settle down you know I'd have an 8 o'clock speaking date tonight would you money tell anybody I'm gonna speak from here for him I got it I got it 8 o'clock flight socks are chartering for Glenn Rosenbaum I'll tell you these traveling secretaries earn every cent they make he had had to make three different arrangements for this first flight into Detroit I'll tell you what he does a whale of a job and he's got a couple of prima donnas on his club that demand an awful lot for us Piersall yeah oh you don't have nothing to do it in yeah he disowned you this year yeah I'm on my own time is call one ball two strikes we had to try to fly about 40 guys and make three different arrangements it in two days try it sometime what to pitch hey I'm up again but it's gonna be out of play I think this coming back east watch it all the way to the screen and it lands about three feet up on the netting boy that was well out of the ballpark with the wind blow into center field blew that ball back but not quite far enough for fish to catch it hit up on the screen Dwyer and Baltimore still alive in a tense situation here bases-loaded two out top of the fourth three three time let's scan the infield there's Belanger at first he bunted his way on there Sakata reached on burn desire tear at second and there's this it's a who walked over third and there's the man up at the plate we want is an out yep one ball two strikes two count the Dwyer high fastball just got I have a few relatives in the ballpark today just outside 2 & 2 the count rich can't afford to go to three and two the way he's struggling right now with this control he's got to put one over right now that ball was not a strike dot to me a thought so but this got to reach out to get it Dwyre wedding now the 2 2 pitch by Richard Dotson high ball 3 the bases are loaded and they will be running with a pitch well he's pitched the ballgame already I don't know how many pitches he's thrown oh yes it's thrown quite as many as it might seem he only threw seven pitches in the entire first inning but boy since then he has really had to struggle there's our man elusive with the little mascot I guess bases-loaded two-out full count the Dwyre runners take their leads there they go changeup he really pulled the string on that wire is really heated with himself he was all running around by the time the ball got the whole play big strikeout for Dotson his third of the game well watch that ball go down the bottom I tell you we've seen it all Berta's art will lead off he has popped up twice he's looked a bit overanxious against McGregor's off-speed junk he has popped to first and popped into since a at third he was the hero two nights ago with four hits and both RBIs in the Sox 2-1 victory over Baltimore [Applause] his second of the Airness Hawks regained the lead Florida three what did he jump on that first [Music] Martinez is warming up and hurried on a pulpit he's been up about three time [Applause] Brenna's our fourth run mattered in his second home run he's now hit one left handed one right you you you you you you you you you you you I'll tell you this little guy might hit ten or twelve he's got good power well they didn't score on his error Nick was just saying Flanders has seen any man through Terry the air of it feels that they didn't score well the Sox have regained the late in a while 143 and here comes Earl Earl Weaver that may be it for Scotty McGregor who is used up about eight of his nine lives today he sure did why would he walk to all those guys in our first one two three four guys I couldn't help but thinking here snort hey get up there the guy has missed with 11 straight pitches and the first one he gets over he goes after it boy I'd almost have to have a take sign on there at least let him throw one strike to me before I swing well usually your figure guys gonna throw you a fastball over but you want to get it about belt high to hit it and I think what he did he turned it over on him and when he swung at it he tried to pull it he can't try to pull McGregor and as well as this key was doing so Dennis Martinez is going to come in yeah he's the young man who was hit in the face two nights ago or last night without bodily at four stitches put in his face he normally is a starting pitcher but he's been slow out of the chute this year so Danny Martinez gets the call here after Berta's arch leadoff homer in the fourth inning is restored a one-run white sox late at four to three mcgregor he's 25 years old from nicaragua last year he was six and four we're in the area 3.96 mostly in relieve use in 25 games all right we'll be back in just a moment here's Pudge you know used to have a real good curveball not quite as good at Tippie Martinez but a pretty good one Tippy's a left-hander fisk is one for one he walked and scored in the first inning after tore out fish got the first of four consecutive walks off MacGregor and then he laid a perfect bunt down the third base line for a single this last time up blown inside a ball ball one fans are still coming out here Jimmy we're gonna have a pretty decent crowd here today we didn't have many when the game got underway but they're still coming in heavily bundled of course yes it's vacation for many youngsters and their dads are here with him all over the place the last day of spring vacation low vol 2 and those strikes to Carlton Fisk fists father would his left shoulder as he backed away from that pitch he's been hit so many times and that left shoulder it's kind of tough for him to swing and I imagine was one of the reasons why he beat out a bunt in a 2nd inning because that shoulders hurts in the swing well he's been hit four times which leads the major leagues and chats right behind him with 3 and those two finished one to the American League last year ball 3 lured away Fisk I think really wasn't hurt until the last time he was hit the second time of that ball game the other night that one came up and it was a high fastball up and in that hit him right it looked almost near the collarbone and I think that's the one that's probably hurt him more than any of the others right on the bone yep three and out of Fisk Denny Martinez working on his first man fastball just got the inside corner looked a bit low from our centerfield shot here 3 & 1 the count Fisk was on his way to first you're watching WGN television 9 in Chicago America's number one station for sports your left arm at hand is the par the right hand you jelly guide to bat so it's gotta bother everybody cuz he's got to squeeze that bat pretty tight with that left hand 3 1 delivery drive ball in the hole vilandra knocks it down he's having all kinds of trouble he can't make so that's a third Polly's been able to feel today I gotta give a hit I'd say an end ball it's a tough play [Applause] Neal Segal and you're an error on that boy he did cover a lot of ground but he had it right in his glove Jimmy just closed it too quickly well it's a tough play because you're all on that grass and it might have just hit something off of that that little grass part of the infield another angle on it he he backed up off the grass that's a third error of the year oh yeah sure sports writer so that ball here's Lozinski is locked in fan over one strange let's keep the flanger is not enjoying one of his better series at least defensively his error been able to Sox to win the opener two to one and he has dropped three balls here it has finally been charged with an error there's a pitch that bounces in go to third up sway over the catcher's head Pollock second on his way to third is Carlton Fisk and they're gonna motion him back apparently the ball bounced into the low block seats just to the left of the screen otherwise Fisk could have taken the extra base wave took a lot of time but the ball was the break for him to go into the stands or physical two went to third because he wasn't hustling back for that ball apparently it hit right on the front corner of the plate it jumped way over his head I don't think he knew where it was for a moment well we've got a wild pitch on each side of the ledger here one ball one strike to Lozinski Sox have regained the lead here in the fourth four to three they've scored one run in each inning but still nobody out on this one well 2 dug out of the dirt by Grant Martina's six feet one relies on a good fastball and a breaking ball but as Joe said he's had some arm trouble and they had to send him out inside ball three and strike one his selasa tee looks pretty good it don't look like he's having any problems on Martinez in his second appearance of the year both in relief trying to pitch his way back into the starting rotation three and one he's behind on Lozinski high ball for first walk-off Martinez Lissitzky joins Fisk on the bases and Lavar Johnson is walked and double the right doc coming up Martinez Denny Martinez while lives in Baltimore Jimmy but he was born and raised in Granada Nicaragua and he won 16 it was 14 and 7 in 77 he was 16 and 11 and 78 and then in 79 he was 15 and 16 and he led the league in starts and complete games at here look up Weaver ran out there he didn't walk out there and he is really let him have it about something nice whistling get somebody's attention I think he wants somebody else up and throwing or he is really hot about something because he is not happy with Martinez whether it's the way he's working or what's going on but he's kind of upset with the whole situation well I think he was upset going in today first of all they had to play too on what was to be an off game for them they're figuring the Sox Bunch both of these games up today because Murray is hop in the hospital with a viral infection is something they haven't really put their finger on yet and Baltimore upset about a lot of things well what if it rain the first Friday they come back absolutely absolutely that's five games in two days ever played a tripleheader no I guess they did that here's Lamar two on nobody out he takes a slider strike over the outside corner knee-high good pitch by Denny Martinez that time there's Fisk at second you know you don't want a bun in this situation because of course fish runs pretty good luzinski he's got a bad leg lamar is a pretty good baserunner but still the speed is not around you've got to get a base hit here the Orioles are gonna get somebody up and down again that Ford swinging on this Lamar fool and off-speed pitch 2 strikes Lamar not seen too much right-handers yet he hasn't played that much was badly fooled on that pitch he hit at his motion and there you see Dave forward the right-hander warming up don't forget the Cubs and the Phillies as the Cubs open up a two-week homestand at Wrigley tomorrow right here on WGN television 9 115 Cubs the Phillies tomorrow two strike pitch to the bar [Applause] Christmas car [Applause] we do something to somebody bump guard through a - to strike the ball pitch to Allen Allen sorrow home run and now we gonna face it so a bad pitch by Martinez as you'll see right here right down the middle Alomar rips it for a base hit and as I said Fiske a good baserunner and not bad speed scores easily 5 2 3 here's Chet lemon got his first RBI of the year when he walked with the bases loaded needle pitch right under his chin he's already been hit three times this year I'll tell you one thing if I'm Chet and I want to play about 15 years of this game I got to do something different I got open my stance get away from the plate try to hit somewhere else because he's going to get seriously injured and I don't I'm not saying that they're trying to do it but that's the kind of a stance he has I think that was a warning there Orioles have got to be a little frustrated right now Martinez yet to retire batter Fisk breached on the air by Blanchard Lissitzky walked and Lamar's single in another run here so we have runners at first and second still nobody out two runs already crossed strange slider outside corner at the knees one and one to Chet let's take a look at that first pitch again all that bad not that bad it was up in the editor Chet you're right Jen described a bad pitch that's just the pitch to want to get him off the plate 1 & 1 the count Chet with a walk and a bunt single the umpires clapping his hands or grabbing his hands behind the plate to let you know that the fans touch the ball in the stands that when we do it I wish the fans would leave that ball alone breaking balls down Graham not a very good receiver had trouble with it now it bounces watch the fans touch this ball that freezes the runners right there of course I'll tell you we've had three wild pitches in this game already get hurt Dotson and it's hurt Baltimore this is not exactly an artistic affair but we'll take a win any way we can get it this is gone we're gonna be here about five hours before we get through number one like a sacrifice fly right now yeah anyway to get this run in Robert lazette ski running at third he's gonna have to hit it 400 she was trying to balls two strikes to Chet you got will you see this down the line up Blanche is over there to bag and playing way in and so is with that Japanese boys names Lenny Socata wonderful Kiki I love the way he hits us he's over thirty three two and two the cat that Chet lemon trying to give the socks another run here maybe two if he can drive one under the outfit Oh almost hit him he turned away just in time but it's a full count of free at twos that was right inside leather high and again and turning away it almost hit him in the shoulder see what it is is the way he leans in on his left foot he doesn't hit and his arms are so stiff and tight there's no way to for him to get anything out of the way course fish yeah except Fisk is uh bats out of a more closed stance Chet is square now watch see that ball is just inside it's not that bad right under his left elbow full count of three and two the payoff pitch Hey [Applause] [Music] [Applause] at 7:00 was pulled in and he just punched it in the or hisses fastball [Applause] [Music] there you see no chance to get to Lissitzky here comes the harm seal the dust even saw the ball four big runs maybe the rest will do that's a good I don't know [Applause] well check now with three Remy's today with number two he is crossed over the 300 mark teen is 301 runs batted in in his major league career here star DS passed a third and grounded into a short to second to first double play bouncing ball at second well the Sox had five hits but can only come up with one one they're really making the Orioles pay there's still nobody out of four runs in it here comes Earl Weaver that's gonna be it for Denny Martinez he did not retire a batter you know John driven in a run this year he's got 111 and he's got play right field Cal hitting pre OE with eight hits in 26 at-bats one homer and two runs batted in left-handed hitter runners at first and second four runs have scored here and still nobody out high and tight ball one debate Sox winning seven to three were in the bottom of the fourth inning you know Joe last year they only made 93 years ball more and not many mental errors but so far against us in this series they've made errors and mental errors ball on the captive aims for the third pitcher used by manager Earl Weaver in this city takes a change high ball to no strikes for a home run gray in behind the plate is noted for his hitting and some of those curveballs I got a believe he could have kept in front of him but he has a tough time to know the cat debate when you got good pitching you gotta have good catching too because they like to throw low swung on drive to center coming in his bumper he got a late started he makes the running catch for the first out of the inning boy he hit that on his fist it looked like it was going to stop but the wind just kept it carrying and bumper he didn't see it too well but still caught up with it one out here's Greg Pryor who has sacrificed and reached on an infield single on he bounced one in the hole at Short that bollinger couldn't hang on to so prior now is three hits and fourth bats officially in the series his first at-bats this year so he's hitting 750 right now Sox have pounded out 12 hits they've been the recipient of five walks they could have 10 or 12 runs right now two on one out Pryor takes outside of all ball one the gray Otis my longest fourth inning with you in the air maybe the longest of the year I'll tell you that third inning lasted all day - oh boy those bases on balls won't make a real last stray good pitch one on one to cop to Pryor the number nine hitter Pryor right field hitter Ruiz got a chance now with Dyer not too far off the bag leaves me a big hole between first and second you realize that after Nord Higgins double play ball every Sox batter reached until Baines flied out there's a pitch up and away ball to 10 straight men reached safely but on Alman single in the third inning Koontz was thrown out at the plate for the third out then burn is art led off the sitting with a hit this followed reaching in an air Lissitzky walk Johnson single lemon single and northagen single there's a drive to left field that's going to be in there for extra bases [Applause] ee-ha Guardian 13 is 8 to 3 [Music] it's up against the wall when little scar anybody else but nor dig in - court - but here's the signal to stop and look at him stop coming around third nor diggin that run will be charged to Denny Martinez the fourth the third the courts he did not retire a batter his ers going out of sight hit number 13 well we still got another game to go yet here's bill Allman he is singled twice driven in a run bounced out 1 to 4 and he takes a strike there there's too much writing for me on this thing joy I like these shortening almonds the number nine batter in this inning so the Sox have batted around turn the brain sensational has just won that job off it [Applause] here because I don't think he's gonna play for a while you see a line drive up the middle scoring two runs squares cars a week last year I think we had one seven-run inning a year ago one still only one out here's burn desire to let it off with a homerun into the second roll the Lord a key passes onto the right side they might try to get tubal and you're out at first they get the force play at second the second out burner start really hustle down deadlines and that's what you like to see this ball is hit hard but still he beats it out Sakana throws quickly here's the throwback from Malaysia and watch he beats it out good hustling saw there to Hotspur desired on it first his fist scoop reached on volanges air and scored in the city seven runs in with the socks are still Patek in the fourth it's now 10 to 3 almond has three hits and three RBIs furnace iron is solo homer that led off this city Fisk as a bunt single he scored twice reaching at an error to walk as well Lissette skis walk twice scored a run Lamar Johnson a walk a double a single two runs scored two run batted in Chet lemon a walk two singles and three runs batted in northagen is singled in three trips couch was 2 for 2 at prior is 2 for 2 plus a sacrifice strage on one - Fisk in at 16 - 8 Texas victory at Fenway Park yesterday I was looking in there lion score today everyone with exception of Mickey rivers had more than one hit Rivers has won 4 5 & 7 of the starters had a run batted internet ballgame they all had about 18 hits I like to see our ballclub doing it against Baltimore cuz you get respect up all the way just missing one and one the captain Fisk then their pitching staff instead of just throwing a ball over making it move they not become worried about how these guys are hitting and they try to pitch a certain spot they say well how do you pitch this guy six of the seven and this inning earned nine of the 10 for the ballgame all the way I can't get over burners arts home runs they're like bullets come on II hit left hand I went up against the Poseidon right the other day now this went into the lower deck right-handed I closed the line on Martinez he gave up or earned runs out of a total of five without retiring a batter there's a strike two and two to Carlton Fisk two out myrna's iron on at first seven runs in here in the home half of the fourth and we got another full game to go after this one he's had a 12 er a now it must be a hundred and eight that farmer can relax yeah you got somebody a farmer true well the last time out 2 2 pitch fish takes outside full count Carlton the 11th man to bat in this inning boy the Baltimore pitch East at throwing more breaking balls and I've ever seen him throw before they usually just hum at you well MacGregor would be the lone exception he has always been an off-speed breaking ball pitcher who has survived on his guile and is it his control but he did not have either today well lack of work for him Fisk missing a double by about a foot the have thought a that bat boy down there that ball boy got hit right in the shins and never even shook it you didn't hit that ball very hard yeah he had the glove on but he forgot there now he's dragging it big leaguer all the way oh boy look I'm dropping it now did he sit down think anybody see him boy it's cold that thing really hurt bouncing ball that's gonna Infernus Arnie was on the move goes to third in the Sox keep it going runners at first and third that's two hits for best today vilandra way over in the hall at shark once he passed that one past about him at clear sailing in a center field on his era in this same it II Malaysia was over quite a bit more and ago to asteroid that timing guarded the hole and didn't come up with a bit here you see it now he didn't hit it very hard but it finds the hole and Bernard goes all the way to third because he was going on the count of three and to the socks who came in the day with a top batting average for a team in the league at 295 also leading in slugging percentage in total bases setting their seasons highs here there's a pitch a strike to Lozinski they have already come up with 15 hits and 10 runs both single game highs this year so they'll pad to their lead in team statistics at least in the first ball game of this double-header outside with an off-speed breaking ball one of the one I would like to see Lozinski rip well not because we need it right now because he needs it yeah he's got to go to right field oh he's just seen me like he jerking that hit out of there overanxious he doesn't know the pitchers seems to be feeling his way around there's the ball high to it one and he controls that ball up there about the middle of the plate he'll feel it up in the upper deck Lozinski the 12th batter in this inning he walked the first time in this inning he is struck out walked twice and scored a run inside ball three now you gotta Tom a breaking ball listen all this this happening has had to last at least a half hour where's Berta started third miss taking his leave [Applause] chopped it foul well he wanted that one badly you know the only thing right now the way we're going Baltimore's praying for rain it's too cold arranger yeah this one is gonna get in I have no doubt about that well we may be sitting on a charter till midnight tonight we got an afternoon game to open up that 13 game road trip in Detroit tomorrow afternoon we don't even have the luxury of an afternoon off strike three call Lozinski got caught looking and the inning is finally and Lissitzky really a bit hostile about the call dotson certainly has been no prize of this one but now he stands to get a victory with a seven run leader in the fifth so he can settle down here hi pop foul out of play on one Francisco Barrios will pitch the second ballgame it'll be his first time to the second appearance this season for the Sox against twenty-five game winner and siyoung award right-hander Steve stone in the second game our next Sox telecasts be Monday night beginning at 6:30 from Baltimore same two ball clubs blow it inside a ball 1 in 1 the count to Lowenstein he'll be followed by singleton and Crowley the middle of the Baltimore lineup here in the top of the fifth the Sox will play 13 rug games in the next 14 days low ball two and strike one will open up with a 3-game weekend series tomorrow afternoon in Detroit and then wgn-tv nine will be with us Monday Tuesday and Wednesday nights in Baltimore then we'll move on for Thursday night and Friday night games it'll be televised from Cleveland two of the four on the weekend series from Cleveland there's a drive down the right-field line hooking foul 2 & 2 the count then the Sox will travel to Arlington Texas to wrap up the road trip with three against the Texas Rangers before returning home on Friday night the 8th of May for the Kansas City Royals and don't forget our Mother's Day fireworks display here that night George Brett Kansas City and fireworks - Friday night May 8th the Sox next home game foul ball 2 & 2 the count to loewenstein who last year hit 421 against the Sox he at 311 against the league we're in the fifth inning Sox leading in Game one 10 to 3 Dotson ready with a 2 2 ball three full count I would not expect rich to go much past the fifth inning maybe the sixth the most the number of pitches he's thrown he had a very easy 1 2 3 7 pitch first-inning but it's been a struggle ever since they all pitched a Loewenstein bounced foul on the first base side in the count rides at 3 & 2 mcgregor pitch three complete innings plus two the leadoff batter Berta's out in the fourth give up four runs all earned on nine hits he walked four all in succession to score the first run of the ballgame for the Sox in the first inning Danny Martinez came on did not retire batter and gave up five runs four earned lorne Stein bounces the ball to the meyer johnson he'll make the play an assistant and there's one down here in the top of the fifth battle boy Lamar [Applause] richard Dotson 22 year old right-hander from Cincinnati trying for his 15th big league victory today here's Kenny singleton who took him deep on a 3-2 pitch to tie the ballgame in the second inning a 420 plus foot home run over that new shortened centerfield barrier singled in second of the year and then he got a little squib hit in the hole to drive in a run in the third so he's 2 for 2 with two runs batted in straight good fish [Applause] the seventh and final runner that fourth inning has already been charged at Dave Ford who came in the third Baltimore pitcher swinging out of us two strikes he gave up two hits in a run before he got the three outs Sox had 12 into the plate in the fourth flyball deep centerfield near the fence check back waiting for it this time leaps up and makes the catch there is it gone it is gone I thought he had it that's the second center field fence home run for singleton today his third of the year and the opposition now leaves the Sox four to nothing in that new shortened centerfield fence Chet timed his leap perfectly I thought he had at the webbing and it just cleared his glove that makes it 10 to 4 and singled in his 3 for 3 let's take another look at that next time I'll watch the monitor a little more closely chat right back to the fence he was waiting for it well you can't really see it although you can see the ball coming down just over is the top of his glove just cleared at that time the first one was a good 20 feet over that fence here's another look oh yeah Bank so I'm slammed the wall that's what I realized the ball was gone he would have had that one and had not been for the new fence so now it's ten to four Dotson's give it a three round trippers this year to centerfield rise by singleton here's Crowley the struck out and flied to left swinging strike one well single that has knocked in three of the four Baltimore runs today they have not homered since the first game of the year when singled in and Epps each had solo drives had gone 65 innings 66 counting the first inning in this one but singled in his homered now in the second and fifth innings here today two strikes the count on Crowley with one out a run in nobody on attend the four ball game in the top of the fifth ball one strike two ground ball right at Berta's art at second Tony gobbles it up to uh [Applause] now one more out and that's and we'll have Fitz long enough to get the victory even though he doesn't finish Danny Graham is struck out and flied deep to center it is to it that's when I stand in grams had a tough day behind the plate two pitches have bounced into the dirt right around the home plate area and going all the way back to the screen for wild pitches Dotson's also heaved one past Carlton Fisk there's a good slider strike knee-high inside corner on one single - there's three of the five hits off Datsun inside of all one on one [Music] well we're all hopeful the cups can turn around starting tomorrow with a two-week homestand and Steve Karlin Eric Russell will match up at Wrigley Field Amaro there's a pitch it bounces into the dirt ball two strike one to Danny Graham well you talk about a club that has been snakebit and early it's one thing to go 24 innings without scoring a run but when you go 24 innings and you don't advance a base runner that is just that is almost as unbelievable as Fernando Valenzuela the incredible 20 year old rookie left-hander for the Dodgers ball free down-low Paul Val's the whele did last night was pitch his third shutout in four complete game victories he's allowed one earned run in 36 innings and with 11 strikeouts he has now found 31 batters in 36 frames and he's also hitting 333 who drove in the winning run against former Dodger right-hander Don Sutton Valenzuela high pop foul down the third base side Pryor has a look and he takes it for the out so the Orioles are gone in the fifth we reached the halfway point here one run on one hit single and second homer of the game so after four and a half in the first of two years at the Vista Park the White Sox ten Baltimore four [Music] bring your coat maybe a blanket and a thermos full of hot coffee and see the second game there's a drive hit deep the left centerfield it's in the gap Umbria long ride and he makes the catch memory literally outran that ball Lamar good wood blowing it deep to left center in the gap but Bunbury who plays amazingly shallow got a good jump on that one to haul it in well here's Chet lemon like Lamar he too had not driven in to run all year but today he is walked reached on a drag bunt single to the second base side of the mound and then the last time up he singled into fair he got his first RBI in the first-inning when he walked through the bases loaded so he has been credited with three RBIs today he pops this one in the shallow right socata out singled it in and Kenny singleton takes it for the second half so we've got a quick bottom of the fifth working here sacks maybe a little bit that tired right now let's hope they get over it in a hurry because we got another one left here today Don northagen who is passed to third grounded into a double play singled and scored Jordi is one for three well you gotta love it there's socks caps on how's that for play on words that's certainly the uniform of the day here temperature hovering around the 50 degree mark nor D rips one to right center for his second hit of the ball game of the 16th for the whites uh tell avoid or D [Applause] hit number three our Ford [Applause] sixteen Bengals for the White Sox right now here's Harold Baines who pinch-hit for Goodson at seven run fourth inning after rusty had started in right field and singled in two trips Koontz two for two Baines flied to Center his first at-bat today [Applause] they sit down the left field line fair ball de since they didn't even move on it we're gonna wave northagen in going to third is pains the relay not in time a trip on the socks of added another was about a foot inside the bag and pushed her down the left field line going with a pitch he sliced salad all the way to the left field cutter the first triple of the air for pains and Harold's third run batted in to the seasons 17 hits for the White Sox that's the second write-off Ford there's Pryor he is singles and double scored a run batted in a run also a sacrifice bunt he's 2 for 2 and he looks at the pitch slow away ball one let's take a look at Loewenstein who had trouble digging that ball out in foul territory down in the left-field corner and by the time he was able to get it back in Baines was in sliding with a three bagger strike two prior one-on-one well checking the lineup card now everybody but Lozinski including Bane's who came in to replace Koontz's hit safely in this ball game for the White Sox there's a drive right center field Bunbury moving over that should be the third out it is one run two hits one man left after five the White Sox in the first game of this makeup doubleheader leading the Baltimore Orioles 11 before [Applause] most day as is this whole Baltimore ballclub offensively the our girls currently in sixth place of the Eastern Division only one of their club the Toronto Blue Jays under 500 at the moment a strike that is since a the loss in the first game of this doubleheader will drop Baltimore to three and five and it'll put the Sox three games over the 500 mark for the first time this year would make them a six and three club going for a three-game sweep in the second game this since I almost stepped into that pitch it was a bit inside one ball one strike the count Dotson has survived two homers from Kenny singleton a bit high with a slider ball two and strike one Dotson has also survived some some of his own wildness he's walked three and he's pitched from behind much of the time he has a seven run lead those are the fortunes of baseball sometimes hi pop foul on the first base side wind might hold it in Lamar can't quite reach it as the ball dropped right inside the dugout steps belonging to the Orioles erred Lamar made a good play to try to get it caught himself then as he stepped off that top step so does sensei is still alive with a ball to strike to count here's another look at Lamar's vain attempt to try to catch that ball said landed in the Baltimore dugout and you're not going to get any helping hands over there right now there's our Center for you centerfield shot to it to the count gotta wonder whether Carlton Fisk might get a breather here and the lady things this ball game or whether manager Tony LaRussa will get them arrest in the second game Fisk is caught every inning of every game so far [Applause] believe it or not it's not the biggest lead the White Sox have owned this year they had a 9 to 1 lead against the Brewers here in the first home game of the year they wound up winning at 9 to 3 they've had 2 7 run leads in this one 10 to 3 and now 11 to 4 alright this it's a with a 2 2 count leading off the sixth inning for the Orioles [Music] deep drive but it's gonna hook foul down the left-field side into the lower deck the sensei a little bit in front of it off-speed breaking ball and he got most of it but he pulled it foul [Music] I fly right field pains coming in furnace aren't going out but it's Harold's ball now at the back panel and he won hands and over his head is the wind almost carried her over his head well every flyballs better an adventure today here's a look now from our centerfield camera Baines backpedaling at the last instant whoo-hoo that boarding house reach saved him there hey how much of a fool of that was Bernard went out after that ball so there's one out here Sakata Lenny is fouled out the Lamar at first reached on Bernie sights air after all the rotten of a hit up the middle making a great diving stop behind the bag at second and burners are just took his eye off the flip throw while almond is lying prone on the dirt the ball outside ball one each Club has one error in this game Bollinger second error in the series and he has had trouble of about three different plays today ball too low away the Sox who came in leading the American League in hitting with a 295 team batting average obviously well over 300 for a club now with 17 hits in this ballgame through the first five innings all three free and Otis Akana among the extra-base hits for the Sox today double by Lamar double by Greg Pryor triple by Harold Baines in the home run by Tony Perez art his second of the year and the ninth for the Sox there's a strike three and one so right now the Sox collectively have doubled 11 times a triple three times they've hit nine home runs they lead the American League in total bases and slugging percentage for a ballclub three and one the pitch to Sakata ball four he walked him and that is the fourth walk issued by Dotson [Applause] [Music] so when I walk here the sixth Delaney Sakata and it brings up the land to the shortstop he walked and scored in the third and got a beautiful bunt single down to third base line the last time up so he is one for one today [Music] mark belanger the blade six three about 172 he hasn't added a town in his 14 years in the big leagues he would have been a shoo-in for the Hall of Fame if he to hit 250 strike call this lifetime batting mark is 229 there have been a couple of years when he failed to hit 200 kevin hickey up and throwing again in the Sox bullpen it's about the third time for the young left-hander from Chicago high fastball one of the one to Bollinger there's Kevin whose so far in his brief major-league career has been quite a story he spits two three ball games all in relief and he has retired nine straight batters check swing bouncer back to Dotson close to Alban for one on the first good mark in oullette they get the force play that was a throw to the outfield side and in the dirt probably the first fat for all we've seen Alban come up with all year and Lamar did a good job to knock that one down near the bag to prevent it from going on check swing bats are right back to the mound what Dotson was quick on that play and he threw it right over the bag and almond had to hustle to get over there so they get the force play two outs and Bollinger now at first six fourth-year or make it one six on the force for keeping score at home with us now here's Bunbury Al's gotta wonder where the hits are in his bat in this series Oh for three today Oh for six so far here in Chicago this year [Music] the lights have been on all day here but believe it or not the fosters watered down the infield it was to drive that new type has done a tremendous job here had to had any water for at least four days there's a drive to center Chet lemon had him played perfectly there's a third out no runs no hits a walk at one left halfway through the sixth inning in game number one white sox eleven the baltimore orioles four was up at in strike one well we guessed right mark Hill is loosening up now he'll probably go in to catch the seventh inning for Carlton Fisk who is caught every inning of every game so far this year fly ball down the right-field line that's trouble for the URLs of it's fair the corner still I play it's off the fence keep going go to third on a triple diploma did not bounce over that railing as it often does the land is out there arguing nobody was down there to touch it the ball was in play almond hesitated rounding second and went on to third that's got to be a triple it did not go out of play Weaver is out there to argue with the first base umpire Ted Hendry hit the top of the railing at bats back in it did not hit the seat and hit the top of the railing so it was still in play and Billy almond has his first triple in a Sox uniform but his fourth hit of this ball game come on Earl sit down that ball hit right on top of the railing here's another look at it you will not be able to see the angle that we have to learn other camera but that ball was at play it did not go over the railing it hit on top of the railing now they're walking out there to check with Kenny singleton Albin is standing at third-base and it's it's gonna it's gonna hold let's take another look at that now watch carefully to see where they fall in if it hits the ceiling bounces back out that's a ground roll level that takes that first big hop goes high in the air hey Lance squarely on the railing advances back in it was in play Holloway and a tall but not hesitated rounding second they might have waved him in and a chance for an inside-the-park home run 18-inch for the White Sox a leadoff triple by almond here in the bottom of the sixth inning in the Sox now try to keep their string of getting scored alive they got a run in the bottom of the ninth inning in the last game to be Baltimore there's a strike two burners are Tony has the game's only home run for the White Sox and that's his only hit he's popped to first pop to third and bounced into a second the short force to go with this home run into the lure decade left bouncer to the right side Dwyer makes the play paddies [Applause] the 19th of the ballgame on the white side first inserted nobody out [Music] if your Baltimore the only thing you can do is hope to get this one over as quickly as possible before somebody gets hurt that try to get a split of the second game it's one of those games Carbon fest commercial fat for himself board late getting over there trying to tank where desired Tony gets Bennett for an infield hit we've had a handful of those today so Furnas are now with two hits for in the first game in two today he's got six hits so far the two game series in 14 hits top of the year here's Kyle and fensky is got a bunt single a single up the middle he's reached on an error and walked he scored place these two for 319 base hits for the White Sox they have runners at first and third nobody out we're only in the sixth inning folks hope we don't need a few of these in the second game they tried to make the shoestring sliding catch this third that's the 20th hit of the game for the Sox and they lead at 12 the board still nobody on [Applause] here's another look launched I've almost been a great catch he tried to shoestring it for the webbing of his glove but it wouldn't stay in there for him why why would it nothing else has worked for Baltimore this one first now with three hits in the ballgame Hill coming in for the vote fit Hill going to catch in the seventh-inning here's those in skis the only guy that hasn't it safely if today he looks at the pitch lon away for a ball ball one again a pitch your heating up in the Baltimore pan they may go through the hole the whole staff here in the first ball game left-hander might be tippy Martinez loosening up 12 before Sox nobody out bottom of the sixth inning outside of all - no - Lissitzky there's BER desire to reach saw the infield Edwin Ford failed to cover it first of there's Carlin fest we just knocked in his thirteenth front of the air second in the league socks had 19 hits in three different ball games last year this of course the first time in two years they've gotten 20 pitches outside to Lozinski ball three and no strikes Lissitzky has struck out twice and walked twice he's the only guy to see action today for the White Sox it hasn't picked up at least one hit let's see if they give him the green light on three and Oh swag great lord looked like he wanted to go after [Applause] a rough beginning for the Baltimore Orioles this year don't worry now when they're sharing then some before this season's over but their major concern above and beyond this particular ballgame which is out of hand is the health of Eddie Murray their switch hitting first baseman a golden Glover and a power hitter as well all four Lizette skis on and that loads the bases with nobody out four straight men have reached on Ford here in a sixth inning it one nightmare forever [Applause] first walk issued by Ford and the sixth given up in Baltimore the Saks event 27 base runners right now they have a meeting on the mouth right Miller the pitching coach out talking with his battery Tippie Martinez heating up with a pen we've already seen Denny no relation Danny didn't retire matter [Applause] well Ford has been though mr. today he's given a bait hits three runs so far you haven't retired of batter this inning bases loaded nobody on two runners already in 12 the four Sox leading bottom of the sixth here's Lamar he's doubled and singled flied deep to Center and walk driven in a run scored a pair drive to center that'll score a run Bunbury coming in tagging his Berta's eyes there's the catch the throw goes to third the sock store again it's 13 to 4 Johnson's second run of the day in his second run of the year first out of the inning [Music] the green green grass of all I guess socks and darkness road trip there's the catch by Bunbury Verna sired tagging and scoring after the catch four runs now Ford - in this city here's Chet lemon three rbis 2 singles a lock and a platter I'd smash number 14 tip number 21 with a Sachs Chen webern with four RBIs in the first game of this double-header good to see him breaking out of this [Music] 4:21 they just keep piling it on here's another look perfectly placed ground ball right up the middle Lozinski stopped at second tip number nine top take forward and that's the fifth run Giants Deford here comes Earl outta kill him the sixth inning dub all down low Sox have so many hits they can't even register him on a scoreboard apparently they blown a fuse out there to hit column well it's certainly nice to be on the winning side of one of these lappers luzinski airs at play at the plate he is [Applause] [Music] well that time they beat the throw to the plate actually with a good fall Lozinski slid in just before grab to get down to apply the tag the bull got in close play [Applause] dorneget now with three straight hits his first run batted of the year as tiffy Martinez is greeted that's six runs charged the day Ford now looked like Danny Graham just missed the Bulls he slid to the outside part of the plate and got in under the tag here's Harold Baines who has flied to Center and triple in Iran since replacing rusty Coos 22 hits for the Sox the scoreboard can only handle the tooth [Applause] chat women scores at it 16 [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] five-run sixth inning gear this is getting to be embarrassing sixteen two for the Sox have pounded at 23 hits they've read it Martinez with two rousing singles that closes the book on Dave port he gave up seven runs all earned in two and a third there's a pitch that gets away from Graham the runners a little out the second and third as a third wild pitch for the Orioles they're gonna get grabbed a fastball a fastball left I've charged to the catcher not the pitcher and now a driving to mourn the Sox would match their seven run tunnel in the fourth here's a look at that all that was it that looked like a strike although they call it a ball that looked like it was knee-high right over our outside part of the plate and that's definitely a fastball on Danny Graham who has really had his trouble wide to play Dean runs 23 hits still sixth inning fire [Applause] here he comes [Applause] [Music] to be insulting from this moment afflicted of all late where the second baseman buddy ceccato was [Music] prior Nuys three runs batted in on three hits in this ballgame the Sox have batted around again in the sixth inning and they put up their seven their second seventh run spot on the board seven in the fourth and seven here in the sixth alban takes high and away ball one well martinez dies give it up two runs he hasn't retired anybody this is tippy Dennis Martinez gave up five runs four earned he didn't retire anybody the ball outside ball two [Applause] sucks right now and the most number of hits in the ballgame of events since 1970 24 18 runs across the plate bouncing wobble Angier goes to second for the force that's all I get they finally get two outs oh man let off the setting with a triple [Applause] that's a six for force [Applause] here comes the 11th man to bat in this inning burners are this pay yet get another at-bat for Tony might decide to go ahead and give mark Hiller time [Music] well of my three innings on TV today the Sox have scored 15 runs myrna's are it's a high fly to right singleton chasing it it bounces into their lower deck [Music] [Applause] we run out of wet for my pencil here keeping score on this one absolutely incredible [Applause] don't think the White Sox have a new look for 1981 Verna's I'd takes of all one of the one well the only thing that tempers this great moment actually nothing does we got to play these guys again today let's hope we still got a few hits left there's a strike one on two tubers I Tony the 11th man to bat in this inning the Sox at 12 min to the plate when they scored their first seven running the game in the fourth they've scored it every inning Martinez delivers a watt hopper off his glove bouncing to the shortstop Belanger hustles the photo first [Applause] well I think it's still alive at the Sox will send up mark Hill is gonna bat for Carl and mr. Fiske already bad what's this etiquette singled in a run somewhere ins a slider low and away ball one one [Applause] take a look at bill Albin at second Berta's aren't over at first they both may need oxygens before today's over we're nazar now with three hits almond has four foul out of play let's check this carnage for the White Sox all but right now four for six Furnas are three for six including the only homer hit for the Sox today and that was the lead run the first of seven two scored the fourth inning a broken 3-3 tie garland fists three for four to walk Lozinski is the only guy hasn't it safely he's walked three times over to Lamar Johnson's to 4 4 to walk chat 11 is 3 for 4 to walk bouncing ball of al Andrew short this should retire the side it does and for the second time in the first game of this double-header the Sox and 12 into the play they get a standing ovation for the crowd seven laurent score on the second seven eight 7/7 run inning of the game 1 2 3 4 5 hi young Award winner will puts the second game for Baltimore against Francisco Barrios for the lane side you know Perry beans and maize and Coons have combined for four hits here's the pitch [Applause] the only man who hasn't hit safely has been Lozinski and he is what three different times boy five guys have gotten three hits what has gotten four 25 is we used to go two weeks without getting 25m well how about 18 runs last year we had trouble motivating us any runs but I said Harry we had a lineup today against that left-hander McGregor of course he didn't have too much but still he didn't pitch well police Stern who's a soccer club the sting play here at Comiskey Park Saturday afternoon watching the game here's a fastball two strikes and a ball we're in the top of the seventh Harry look who comes in here on May 8th and 9th and 10th the Kansas City Rob there's a pitch foul out of play two strikes on home boy a great catch [Music] Lowenstein and singleton coming up as any very fallible what kind of a Carter we got 10,000 maybe maybe that Betty two strikes and a ball the delivery swung in line to the right for a hit Baines plays it I wonder what what change up too many said he gotta be just waited and ripped it into right field [Music] Blair's singles to right his Lowenstein he's one out of three lamp is ready to come in I don't know how much they maybe he wanted to pitch one more inning and then let him work he has been very effective for us the White Sox open a series and a road trip in Detroit tomorrow the game will not be on television the Cubs game will be tomorrow they play at Wrigley Field against the Phillies I'm at channel 9 the nation's number one sports station brings you both the Cubs and the White Sox on TV Lowenstein Chanukah I'm all in a strike hey laugher here today 18 - for another game to go though beauty in their first red card two strikes and a ball [Applause] Dotson looking for his first win it's only one now the fetch high fly ball that ought to be easy well the winds holding it up and it may drop and it does a base hit for Lowenstein why the wind say one thing here we that winds blowing straight in and you play awful deep 380 you're never gonna catch these a little pop fly too should have been caught watch it it's hit way up in the air lemon playing so deep just can't get to it warheads that started I like it easy routine announcer routine fly ball but the wind is blowing in very strongly and now you're single Dennis hit two homers today also had them they said driving it around he's driven in three of their four runs and scored the other one twenty-five hips for the White Sox [Music] bouncing ball get one Squires will take the sure out the other runners advance carry with this on with the score 18 a four-year play outs [Music] here's Terry Crowley Crowley a left-hand batter he's old for three today you know area with the White Sox with dollar out the lineup for Baltimore along with Murray you got to take advantage because they lose a lot tower or an excellent second baseman a good hitter against dust and Murray all that power one out runners at second and third here's Crowley remember another telecast then will begin at 6:30 our participating advertisers in today's game were anheuser-busch st. Louis Brewers of Michelob put a little weekend in your week true value hardware stores true value more than just a name it's our way of doing business Zenith and you Zenith dealers featuring system three color TV and Honda for quality and value that's in your ballpark Honda we make it simple this telecast was produced and directed by dick Flanders our assistant director has been Joe Carney who this has been a WGN television nine sports presentation a baseball player [Music] hello again everybody Harry Caray and I thought it only fitting today that we present the two general partners of the Chicago White Sox being president Eddie Einhorn and the chairman of the board Jerry Reinsdorf and I want to make one point because I couldn't understand why you guys wanted to play today when you could set these games back later on in the season when Baltimore comes back when the weather would be warmer and get many more people make many more dollars yet you played because you thought you had Baltimore weaker now that they might be then which I think speaks well but the new ownership because you're caring more about winning than how many dollars you're making Jerry well Harry I think that winning is the most important thing but in the end if you win the money takes care of itself we told him we want to win an area and I think we've shown up will continue to show it we not only were concerned about now but in August when they come back we want to be the ones ready and rested and ready to go after them because we feel we're going to be in the race then and why not have every advantage we can get at that time you know any being having been in television that of course he's been familiar with some of the things that are going on Jerry would you adjust a society successful businessman all of a sudden finding yourself in a spotlight I bet you that you never dreamt that baseball could be so different than business well it is totally different than any normal business but I have to admit it's every bit as much fun as I thought it was gonna be but I couldn't survive in it without any einhorn to take the heat I thank you that's all I'll take the heat for this one all right you take the heat of the second guy you know we got to remember this is wonderful and I think it shows a spirit of this club and one of the biggest things I loved was luzinski sliding home that did more for him than anything because it proved he could go on that leg and he wasn't about to be thrown out at that plate even if it was the 15th run you know I'm not worried about his hitting at all Lozinski is gonna be RIT he's just facing at different pitches Jerry and any of course it's going around a little bit more but Jerry all of a sudden now you have your friends asking you about pictures and shortstops and hitters if you find yourself boning up on baseball a little more Harry the only difference now is they asked for my opinion for years I've been giving my opinion nobody would listen so now the only difference is somebody listens to me well I guess you were thinking of the old days at Ebbets Field when you saw all those it's some great Dodger teams that never got 26 hits in one game this team reminds me of the Dodge is a great deal because of his spirit and the excitement associated with fans here like the fans in Brooklyn and it to me it's just being reborn again as if I were back in Brooklyn you know so much negative about the Cubs I don't maybe this I know that what what you're interested in is Chicago everything good in Chicago but here's your rival across town having a tough time getting started without I know you're not gloating at all but it does give you an opportunity I believe if you have the kind of team that everybody seems to think this is gonna develop into to finally make the White Sox the team in Chicago again Harry we don't compete against anybody but ourselves and our own standards and I think Jerry and I have very high standards so much so that we're probably going to come up with ulcers that by the middle of this season we don't like to lose but we're measuring our own performance day by day we wish Bill Wrigley and the Cubs I just hope they go on a nine-game winning streak because we know what it feels like it could happen to us and it's a shame we hope they do well it won't hurt us and it will help us if they don't do well but we can only help ourselves by doing the job ourselves that's what we're out to do and while we love this game we've got to face this eye on the ward winner in the second game and that's what we worry about right now right now this team could fly to Detroit without a plane unfortunately we've got to face this fella Steve stone and then Jack Morris tomorrow that's what the game is all about I think the people are under estimating the strength of this American League don't you oh there's no question about that Jerry it's got to make you feel good though they're getting away to a great start like this and walking the street are going into a restaurant the enthusiasm of the fans for your ballclub oh it's fantastic Eddie and I walk through the stand people are thanking us for the ball club and it is exciting and however the only thing that will really be exciting is if we can be playing in October you know up if you want any knowledge about baseball I see a guy in the next booth just as Charlie Lupin he'll be happy to tell you Charlie Lupin never hesitates to give me advice and venture a few opinions he's been a great help in this whole thing and he counseled with me all the way through while we were trying to buy the ballclub and during the periods when it looked like you know we might not get it charlie was really a tower of strength what else can you do for this ballclub before the June 15th trading deadline that can make it even stronger and I think you might be strong enough now Larry I just want the fans to know this we've sold credibility and I think the town needed that more than anything it's not promises it's going and doing it and we've shown that we're going to do it now we can't hit we can't pitch but we shown that we'll do everything we can to put the best team on the field we can I'm going on this road trip now I'm sitting with rolling every day as is Jerry we meet at least every other day and I mean what we can do for the club what's available we're active in it we use Roland's advice we use Tony's advice we want to know now we rebuilt this club without giving away our assets not it's so easy anymore if they're wise to us and it's not going to be easy to get the kind of fellows we need now but we're still after there and we're we know we have a few defensive weaknesses we know we have an imbalance now in the last few players on the roster and we're out to do it Eddie Einhorn and Jerry Reinsdorf thanks so much for taking time to be with us I know the fans enjoyed seeing and hearing from you and I know that they join us up here and hoping that this will be a great successful season in your debut in baseball well thank you Harry and I saw those ratings for that game on Tuesday night we reached as high as a 15 rating which means the fans of Chicago want to see it too and we're we're tickle a debt that they love it thank you very much Thank You Harry pleasure to be here I got you in baseball and I used to be in real estate you heard from Jerry Reinsdorf is chairman of the board Eddie Einhorn president of the Chicago White Sox that doesn't protect finning now this is Harry Caray the second game will not be on television will be on radio only we'll see you at I thinks telecast I already mentioned the date hope you enjoyed this one so long everybody [Music] this is WGN television channel 9 in Chicago
