[Music] live from the Astrodome in Houston Texas ABC's NFL Monday Night Football the Pittsburgh Steelers against a Houston Oilers this ABC Sports exclusive is brought to you by viewing and your local doing dealers who invite you to stop in and see all the new barracks now during their holiday get together and buy light beer everything you always wanted in a beer and less [Applause] what a scene said we don't have to get geared up for the night we've been waiting for it for a long time the Steelers at 11 and 3 the oil is at 10 inform what arrived remember the showdown in the playoffs last him when Mike Wagner was accused of a cheap shot against Mike barber that's the feeling between those clubs it wasn't a happy occasion but it's the way was Frank and I did a Monday night game at Three Rivers last year won by Houston over the Steelers that takes some doing and then the steel is one here and one in the playoffs but these are two great teams and for the beginning of the storyline tonight let's go to my colleague of nine years himself as excited as when he played at USC Frank Gifford nine years seems like only yesterday story line for the Houston Oilers I think it's quite simple for their fans for the team for anyone who knows this game that is to keep the football away from the number one office in the NFL the Pittsburgh Steelers the way you do that you get a good rushing performance out of maybe the best running back in football today and that of course is Earl Campbell general Campbell's had his problems Pittsburgh Steelers they are number one in the entire league against a rational camel in his attempts against Pittsburgh thus far in his two-year career has never been able to manage 100-yard game this should be quite a football game the Fran this is like high school college football all wrapped into one prank this is why there's so much energy here tonight and guess whose many on the spot its Dante Pastorini the quarterback of the Oilers why because Houston doesn't run the ball well against Pittsburgh a they like to give the ball to Earl Campbell at least 36 percent of the time to run and he doesn't run very well against it so Pastorini has got to throw the ball tonight and of course on the other side of the fence you've got Terry Bradshaw who is now a truly great quarterback have another outstanding year so you've got a figure that he's going to be putting points on the board for the leading offensive football team the National Football League okay Frank we're set to go as you can see if we look down in the field the Pittsburgh Steelers have won the toss they had elected to receive a or two year left the Steelers 11 and 3 they houston oilers 10 and 4 looking deep as Larry Anderson a speedster Tony Fritz will kick-off for the Houston Oilers over 50,000 expected here tonight there will be no no shows this town has been turned on like no professional city that I think that I can recall [Applause] a division title fight constantly on the lion tonight girls along the ground [Applause] by great Hawthorne now looking from Baylor and Hawthorne moves out over the third to the 37 yard line offensively for the Pittsburgh Steelers our Carrie Bradshaw he makes it all happen Franco Harris over a thousand yards once again there is your offensive line changes yes Don Cole and Jerry Mullins Mullins the right guard cold the left tackle are not starting tonight although both are able to play Peterson starts a left tackle 66% a right guard [Applause] just at the 38-yard line in mrs. in almost a linebacker position trying to cover him one-on-one he doesn't do it Barbara makes the play just play selection of who to go to by Pastorini going to Barbara because the outside guys were and it took some time the offensive line of the Oilers protected against the Steelers they've sacked quarterbacks 46 times this year at the Steelers first and ten ball at the 44 yard line Tim Wilson Wilson right side hambert who is having a great year for Pittsburgh leading all the linebackers with interceptions he is a we've discussed our Stanislavski method player and he still thinks quaterback trying to stay with this gifted young man well of course you're looking at one of the most remarkable athletes in football friend maybe the most gifted wide receiver this played the game in the last 10 or 12 years they had a deep deep help with him back there to run the pattern watch him come off the field driving the defensive back down the field makes the cut out that's his responsibility covering short and left Swann still beat him remarkable played by Swan good throw by Bradshaw Swan knew exactly where he had to be to get the first time he collects it at the 34-yard line inside and tonight to truly exceptional teams quarterbacks performing beautifully the defense's executing even though there are games being made and next Monday night the showdown the charges in the playoffs but
