ever since the car was invented in germany way back in 1806 people have been trying out different ways of building them it needs an engine and some wheels but otherwise there's no limits to the human imagination when it comes to car design the sky's the limit actually that's kind of true since we don't have those blade runner style flying cars yet come on elon musk get to work that's a thousand kilometer range this would be the first time an electric vehicle anyway from the car that thinks it's a boat to the car that italians love the most here's the 15 most unusual cars in the world number 15 the amphicar back in the early 1960s the west german car maker decided that roads were just not enough he wanted to be able to drive right up to the water and keep going and so the amphicar was born launched at the new york auto show in 1961 this crazy vehicle was in production until 1965 with almost 4 000 of them made by the quartz group inspired by the volkswagen schwimwegen translation people's car swimming car the amphicar was not quite so easy to operate as you might have hoped first up you needed navigation lights and a flag fitted to satisfy us coast guard regulations that's not so bad but then once you've done with the water and are back on land you need to get the toolkit out remove the back seats and grease up the axles and other moving parts in 13 hard to reach places so any dramatic escape plans might not work out so well as the bank robber and you had hoped still it looks cool kinda before we go on like this video smash the subscribe button and click the notification bell right now or this centipede will crawl on your face when you're sleeping time for the rare topic talking about unusual cars this one looks pretty weird can you guess what's wrong with it yup you got it that huge air intake on the hood is going to be totally useless on a car with such small wheels i don't think this thing is going to be delivering a whole lot of torque this is one strange and unusual looking car do you think the designers were joking around or did they just get their mathematics all wrong and no one noticed until it was too late comment down below with the hashtag raretopic and let us know your opinion in relation to what we just showed on screen with that said let's keep things moving number 14 1960 flat jolly 600 seems like the 60s was a ripe time for all kinds of automotive experimentation because now we're taking a look at flats jolly 600 italian giants flat saw the need for an italian car that was small stylish and practical for the clogged streets of rome and so the flat 600 was born but some people weren't satisfied with the iconic little bubble car they wanted something jollier you know something that reminds you of a golf cart and so they got it and it was called the flat jolly in fact it wasn't flat at all but the famous turin design firm gia who did the work converting 650 600s into jollies they had the sides stylishly cut away and came with wicker chairs and a kind of picnic blanket roof with fringing targeted at wealthy yacht owners as a run-around car from boat to beach to seafront home these days they have become incredibly valuable selling at auction for more than 150 000 a apiece that's the price of a brand new aston martin vantage so you really need to love driving in a wicker chair if you're considering one of these number 13. the tra montana xtr spain's automobile industry is nowhere near as celebrated as that of its european neighbors like france and italy but when they do decide to do something they go as unusual as they can and that's the tremontana xtr this sports car has been fully inspired by open wheel racing cars like you might see in f1 or indy car built by advanced design tram montana in girona spain the concept was launched at the 2005 geneva motor show and has since entered production it has a 5.5 liter mercedes-benz v12 mid-mounted which produces 710 horsepower the rear wheel drive machine has a mixed carbon fiber and aluminum body making it weigh in at under 2 800 pounds which means that this thing can burn rubber a top speed of 202 miles per hour is possible which has got to feel pretty intense in an open wheel sports car like driving a go-kart at the speed of a porsche 911 only 12 a year are manufactured and each one costs a massive half a million dollars so it's not something you're going to see parked at a walmart very often but you do get a solid gold hood bag for that classy bling bling touch number 12. the peel 50. ah the 60s once again a time when people smoked a lot of cigarettes wore stylish suits liking mad men worried about nuclear war and did their best to make incredibly weird cars in this case a company called peel made a car that looks like an orange and was about the size of an orange the big utopian dream of the 60s was for an ever expanding human population to crowd into cities as much as possible where they would all be incredibly happy forever and to alleviate concerns about lack of space everyone would have to drive a car that was not much bigger than a golf ball here's where the peel comes in it is listed by the guinness book of world records as the smallest production car of all time built on the isle of wight in the uk this lightweight one-seater did not have a reverse gear instead you just got out and pulled it backwards with the handle always fun in rainy britain no doubt it had one door one headlight one windscreen wiper and cost just 199 at launch which is about 8 500 today although in fact today you can expect to pay more like two hundred thousand dollars for one as these little cars have become immensely collectible number 11 the koenigsegg trevita back in 1994 swedish company koenigsegg entered the high performance car market with the objective of producing cars so fast that they would be out of sight before you figured out how to pronounce the name of it correctly in 2006 it launched the ccx or competition coupe x [Music] with the x marking the 10 years since the first cc car was tested this 800 horsepower monster has a brutal 4.7 liter twin supercharged v8 engine which was developed in-house and it gained worldwide fame when it became the fastest car on tv show top gears track in 2007 but that wasn't enough they decided to make a special edition the trevita which means triple white koenigsegg developed their own technique for manufacturing carbon fiber called it diamond weave which literally involves coating the car's bodywork with diamond this makes it stronger and lighter adding even more performance but also adding quite a lot more price only two were ever made with one being bought by boxer floyd mayweather and it cost him just under 5 million dollars number 10 ferrari 5125 modulo once upon a time car designers were mad geniuses and the best ones were often italian guys up at 4am after 30 cups of coffee too many they're mines full of all the aesthetic masterpieces of the country's past and the most beautiful cars were made the wedge cars nowadays any car with a wedge but would send the wind tunnel obsessed algorithm dependent car designers of today into a meltdown every car is supposed to look the same right but not in 1970 at ferrari back then people wanted something different to all the rest and in the case of the ferrari 5125 medulla extremely different admittedly the wedge style would be mastered by lotus and lancia but ferrari's attempt was the beginning of a brave new world it was the only one made a concept for the 1970 geneva motor show but thanks to movie director james gilkenhouse it has been restored and it runs once again people were amazed then and it's still amazing now and it's not all about the looks as this car could allegedly hit 60 miles per hour in just over 30 seconds and cross the 200 mile per hour barrier at top speed number 9 bond bug with the peel on the road the british weren't quite done with trying to make ridiculously small cars yet while ferrari wondered what the super rich might be driving on mars the reliant motor company wondered what james bond might be driving if he lost his job as a secret agent and now had to work as a janitor or something on mars and so they came up with the bond bug another important entry in the wedge car cannon of course james bond would not have been seen dead in this ridiculous orange shoe it was just the name of a company that reliant bought out and used as branding the cars had three wheels but were surprisingly fast able to reach 76 miles per hour and the coloring and marketing was targeted at young people with the sales pitch that it was fun to drive they were produced between 1970 and 1974 and turned out to be both a national joke and surprisingly popular and they had one claim to fame luke skywalker's landspeeder and the original star wars movie nothing more than a bond bug with some extra bodywork placed on top number 8. davis de van the bond bug was far from the first three-wheeled car to be seen on our roads another example is the davis van which was built back in the late 1940s at that time its futuristic styling was truly revolutionary as were its many technical innovations the divan was the passion project of used car salesman glenn gordon gary davis davis was a man who knew how to make a sale and he launched an extravagant and glamorous launch campaign which helped him secure more than a million dollars of funding through sales to dealerships employees at the factory worked night and day to build the cars but everything began to fall apart and workers were left unpaid while orders were left unfulfilled resulting in davis being subjected to multiple lawsuits and eventually condemned to hard labor in a prison work camp disc breaks aircraft styling built-in jacks and the most awesome feature in automotive history flip up headlights or just some of the innovations of the david de van only 13 were built and 12 survive most of which are now museum pieces number seven double faced truck there's a lot of things you can say about chevrolet and a lot of those things might not always totally be entirely complimentary but one thing you can say about chevy's that they make a damn good truck let's forget about the vega and the uplander and those 70s corvettes and concentrate on the fact that truck equal good when it has a chevy badge you used to have three fan belts that's the way they did things back in the old days so good that you might want two of them and in fact you might want two of them and you might want to drive them both at the same time except this is impossible because you've only got so many arms and legs and eyes so what do you do splice them together and make one of these chevy frankenstein things yeah it's really not much of a truck anymore but it is two silverados welded together front to front on one side the engine has been removed so there's some truck space in one end but you'll have to remember which end that is every time you drive it otherwise you won't be going very far number 6. 1961 messerschmitt kr200 the 1961 messerschmitt kr 200 is another tiny little car from the 60s this bubble car was also known as the cabinet roller or cabin scooter the messerschmitt were most famous for their production of germany's finest aircraft during world war ii but in the 1950s they tried their hand at something a little less aggressive and this is what they came up with the car was marketed in the u.s which was pretty ambitious at the time when most americans wanted to drive cars the size of cruise ships which could do 180 miles per hour through a desert and considered handling to be for the week but still a decent amount of cabin and rollers were sold in california it had some quirks such as handled bar steering and engaging reverse involved setting the entire two-stroke engine in reverse giving four reverse gears in fact the three-wheeled car could do 65 miles per hour and had that world-class german engineering which meant it set all kinds of insurance records for low displacement cars but it did cost over a thousand dollars and so was far from cheap that was 100 per horsepower which was way more expensive than buying 10 actual horses but then horses don't have four reverse gears number five oof electrique loof electrique was france's contribution to the world of weird little cars back in 1942 france had some fairly significant problems like almost the entire country being occupied by a super aggressive german army and being one of the main battlegrounds of the biggest conflict in human history but one parisian named paul arzens said to himself an uff is i'm sick of this war so i'm going to design a super weird car that looks like an electric egg to take my mind off things oh hey maybe the oof electric could have been the french resistance's secret weapon well it wasn't quite that but it was a visionary electric car produced at a time when gasoline was practically inaccessible to the average person the body was made of plexiglas and aluminum and weighed almost nothing although aluminum was even rarer than fuel at the time so he could only make one of them but it looked pretty cool and even if it didn't take off it paved the way for the world we live in now where electric cars are surely going to become the only kind of car in the near future number four maybach axlero the maybach exelero is a one-of-a-kind high-performance car made by stolla and daimler chrysler launched in 2005 the car was specifically designed to showcase goodie ears specialist high performance tire range which were capable of functioning at speeds of more than 225 miles per hour maybach provided a twin-turbo v12 which is capable of producing almost 700 horsepower and 750 feet pound of torque which means this thing can drag itself along the mesa dam pretty speedily able to reach just under 220 miles per hour [Music] rapper birdman decided that he had to have this unique vehicle and so was able to produce the 8 million necessary to secure it i guess it pays off to own a record company known as cash money records the car has a pretty striking design with a huge grill reminiscent of the cars of the 1930s and 40s in fact the whole vibe is very much 1940 supercar with chrome and red leather trim if birdman ever gets bored of it maybe you have the funds to make him an offer he can't refuse so you can become the new owner of this modern gangster mobile number three the devil 16. when you are considering what engine to put in your sports car there's a lot of people who will tell you that a v8 is the way to go there's plenty of advantages to having a v8 and the sound we all love the sound but if you're from dubai and money is just a bottomless pit that can never be exhausted why not slam two v8s in your new car and call it a v16 hell why not throw in two twin turbos as well and have a quad turbo v16 supercar that can rustle up 5 000 horsepower and make 320 miles per hour 5 000 horsepower have you ever seen what 5 000 horses looks like that's a lot of power a lot of horses too this project is no joke and is being engineered by one of the greatest hyper car engineers of all time paulo gorilla of pinon farina this monster would cost more than 2 million dollars to buy will be slightly less tuned versions of the 16 for the much more reasonable price of 1.5 million dollars only 3 000 horsepower in that one though so it'll be basically as fun to drive a chevrolet spark or something like that number two terrafugia transition wait did i say at the start of the video that we didn't have flying cars well i was wrong we have a flying car no this is not a drill get ready to spend all your money because it's happening kind of the terrafugia transition is more like a drivable airplane than a flying car it's been under development for 15 years which is pretty long so there might be a little more time to wait until you can get your hands on one but the prototypes are of a small light aircraft which can fold up its wings and propellers allowing you to then drive it like a car on the highway it's capable of 70 miles per hour on the road and a cruising flight speed of a hundred miles per hour testing and development has been arduous and spiraling costs have been a cause for concern the cost of a unit doubled over time and now the company is more than a year late in delivering customer orders so things aren't looking so good right now but who knows what the future will hold for this crazy car number one 100 foot long stretch limo the history of the limousine goes back more than a hundred years and it usually denotes a luxury car which is driven by a chauffeur often with a partition between driver and passenger this distance from driver and oh so important passenger got longer in 1928 when a company called armbuster built the first ever stretch limousine they became popular with touring musicians and then soon with other celebrities and people seeking a luxury lifestyle since then there's been a craze for stretching and stretching hummers volkswagen beetles fiat pandas citrones two cvs leda's and even ferraris and chevrolets but it's not only about picking an unlikely car but seeing just how far you can go and one guy has surely beaten the record by making the first 100 feet stretch limousine to ask the driver to pull over so you can use the bathroom would require a megaphone this cadillac has an incredible 26 wheels as well as sleeping areas two driver cabs a jacuzzi a pool and a deck and even a helipad cornering could have been an issue but the car is hinged in the middle so it's able to actually drive around most streets which one of these unusual cars would you like to own what weird car would you turn into a stretch limo if you had a chance let us know in the comments below also check out our other cool stuff showing up on screen right now see you next time you
