you might think that superpowers are reserved for the four color worlds brought to life on pulp paper pages by the likes of jack kirby steve ditko and frank quietly but there are some people who might just have powers for real yeah really these are unusual people who got real super powers [Music] number 15. david blaine underwater superpower a healthy person can hold their breath for about two minutes but what about seventeen the magician david blaine is an illusionist and extreme performer known for his out-of-this-world public stunts of endurance which even includes burying himself alive in an underground coffin for seven gruelling days and standing on a pillar 100 feet in the air for 35 long hours nothing is off the table for this daredevil whose biggest inspiration lies in the form of houdini and that includes holding his breath underwater david blaine broke the record for the longest amount of time a human has held their breath underwater after inhaling pure oxygen in 2008 in a pure act of endurance and skill blaine set the record in 2008 live on the oprah show by staying inside a glass fish bowl of water for a record-setting 17 minutes and four unnerving seconds in front of millions watching live and a studio audience this inhuman feat shocked fans around the world but would go on to be beaten by the german free diver tom siedes who held his breath for an eye-watering minutes and 22 seconds how annoying for david like this video smash the subscribe button and click the notification bell right now or this centipede will crawl on your face when you're sleeping now it's time for the odd topic we don't know this woman's name but what we do know is the nickname the internet has come to know her by the bee lover but it's something of a misnomer because it's not she who loves the bees but the bees that love she for reasons not clear bees will just not sting her her whole life they just love her the second they see her many people think it has something to do with pheromones but what do you think an incredible superpower right comment down below with the hashtag oddtopic and let us know your opinion in relation to what we just showed on screen with that said let's keep things moving number 14 lou thou lynn magnet man there are plenty of famous superheroes known around the world but i doubt you've heard of magnet man 73 year old lou thou lin has the bizarre ability where large metal objects mysteriously stick to him [Music] his talents don't stop there he can also pull a one and a half ton car just by using a metal plate stuck to his stomach magnet man discovered his superpowers when he was working on a construction site and noticed various tools sticking to his skin since then he's been a freak of science which many professionals have tried to solve after numerous tests and countless analyses science is yet to explain his mysterious powers lou thou doesn't have a magnetic field or particularly sticky skin to point to as the cause for his powers the powers seem to be genetic as both of his grandchildren have various metal objects stick to their bodies too i'm not sure what crime this family could halt with their talents although they at least have a great party trick and conversation starter of their sleeve or should i say on their chest number 13. dean carnaz's ultra marathon man dean karnaz's morning routine includes running a marathon before breakfast while the rest of us can barely get out of bed and then he runs 10 or 12 miles in the afternoon of course that's just shy of 40 miles of running every single day for me dean carnazis isn't a regular person if you haven't guessed he has a superhuman level of endurance which has led to time magazine naming him as one of the top 100 most influential people in the world and men's fitness praising him as the fittest man on the planet he has run 135 miles in the hottest place on earth death valley where temperatures reached 131 degrees he's also run a marathon to the coldest place in the world the south pole which can dive as deep as negative 45 degrees in temperature if that wasn't enough dean has also run 50 marathons in all 50 u.s states in 50 days wow but why is he so good well he was kind of just born with it his body has an amazing ability to buffer its production of lactic acid the reason why you get a burning sensation after prolonged exercise he's also a new york times best-selling author not bad going at all number 12 lion man kevin richardson most people would run at the sight of a lion or hyena sprinting at full pace towards them kevin richardson on the other hand readies himself for a huge hairy embrace kevin is a south african with a deep passion for his group of unconventional friends and a superhero level of bravery [Music] at his 1200 hectare sanctuary kevin hangs out with 32 lions 15 hyenas and four black leopards they all embraced him as part of their group these animals could rip kevin to shreds in an instant if they wanted but aside from a few scratches and hurting his back from the giant weight of his lions lying on him he's remarkably unscathed kevin developed his passion after he was helping at a sanctuary and was given the responsibility to look after two lion cubs called tau and napoleon this sparked his love of the animals and to this day kevin uses his unconventional companionship with these beasts of nature to raise awareness of their dwindling numbers there are only 20 000 lions left in the world making kevin's work extremely valuable as well as insanely dangerous number 11 autistic artist with photographic memory steven wiltshire you may think you have a great memory but i doubt you could draw a city skyline in excruciating detail from only a brief helicopter ride around it meet the british artist and savant stephen wiltshire who happens to have a photographic memory diagnosed at three as having the developmental disorder autism he did not let that face his dreams through his passion for art one of the only activities which calms him steven went on to gain popularity by having the british prime minister edward heath commissioning his first piece of work a sketch of salisbury cathedral using his remarkable talents and an exceptional memory steven has gone on to sketch numerous city skylines around the world from london to paris to new york steven's work sells for thousands of dollars each his favorite thing to draw is the empire state building his new york piece only needed one 45-minute helicopter ride to give his mind enough fuel to draw the big apple with thousands of intricate details over the course of five days the human mind is an incredible thing number 10 the shaolin monks the mental and physical toughness of a shaolin monk is seemingly unbreakable whilst most western babies are barely learning their abcs shaolin monks step foot in the temple and begin training from as young as three years old in front of them lies years and countless hours of mental and physical practice to master their craft their abnormal strength comes through harvesting an energy force known as chi through repeated meditation believe it and you'll achieve it i guess through harnessing this superhero level of toughness some monks go on to do the most insane acts and stunts they've been known to bend a metal bar by only leaning on it with their throat pull a car by using just a knife pressing onto their throat and even withstand a metal drill being used on their temple on the side of the head speaking of temples the xiaolin temple is a real place founded in china in the 5th century and it is none other than the main temple of the xiaolin school of buddhism this harnessed mental and physical strength can be used to extreme lengths in 2013 a buddhist monk set himself on fire outside of the famous temple of buddha's tooth relic in the town of candy in sri lanka to protest against the slaughter of their sacred cows number nine daniel browning smith the most flexible man in the world daniel browning smith is the most flexible person in history his limbs are like that of the stretch armstrong toy able to mold and bend to seemingly any position these powers have also won him several guinness world records over the years but where does this ability to bend and twist come from well since the age of about four his passion for contortionism has been apparent even at such a young age he had a desire to be the greatest daniel was only 18 when he decided to pack up his belongings and run away to perform in a circus after learning the tricks of the trade daniel now works under the title of rubber boy and has been featured on no other than stan lee's series stan lee's superheroes the secret behind his act is his genetic condition hypermobile ehlers-danlos syndrome which allows his joints to be so flexible to the point where he can put his legs behind his back and even fit his whole body through a stringless tennis racquet rubber boy's talents don't end there with him also having a moderately successful acting career where he's appeared in such films and tv shows as csi kiss kiss bang bang and the adam sandler comedy you don't mess with the zohan number eight isau machi the fastest samurai of modern times is saumachi is a living samurai legend who has broken many world records with his sword wielding abilities machi is a japanese iaido master from kamanishi hiyogo japan pointing to the legendary martial artist musashi miyamoto machis myth that he could catch flies with chopsticks he wanted to avoid any debate when it came to his legend and skill set machi decided to try and set as many guinness world records as he can with his swordsmanship so he can point to the official verification as to prove that the insane feats really happened he first rose to prominence when he broke the record for the most sword slashes to a tatami mat sitting on its own without the assistance of a stand without any support the strikes have to be perfectly balanced and very fast so as to not knock the mat to the ground this act is called sugary his list of insane guinness world records is long and they include fastest bb pellet cut by a sword most sword cuts to straw mats in three minutes most martial arts swords cuts to one mat tsugiri fastest 1 000 martial art swords cuts and fastest tennis ball cut by sword it's safe to say that saumachi is good with a sword and well on his way to cementing his legacy number seven miracle girl who can read her mother's mind a girl in india can read her mother's mind and she's actually passed official tests proving that it isn't just nonsense nandana una krishnan who also has autism is claimed to be able to read the mind of her mother the superpowers started off as unusual coincidences which took the form of nandana being able to tell what food her mother was thinking about preparing for dinner and where her mother was taking her for a day out before she even told her daughter whilst this isn't the most convincing of evidence scientists thought they'd take a look and give the young girl a real challenge after separating the two in separate rooms they would show the mother a six-digit sequence on a screen nandana then recited the sequence perfectly without any assistance or leaving the room spooky but the skeptics were really brought around when the next task was passed nandana's mother was given a grade two level poem to read nondonna typed the entire poem perfectly with ease in the other room seemingly reading the mom's mind unless the test was rigged that is both cool and creepy maybe the x-men really do exist number six michael rutzen shark man sharks are perceived by most of the public as dangerous killer machines that mindlessly bite at any stray limbs they come across in the sea michael rutzen or man is trying to change that opinion through swimming with these predators of the ocean and showcasing to the world that they are in fact gentle and intelligent beings shark man has even taken out such celebrities as matt damon and brad pitt for a swim with these fearsome fish and they return to the surface with their a-list looks intact so it can't be that bad rutson's advice for if you are confronted with a shark is surprisingly not to swim away he says that if you swim away you make the shark think that you are prey and they will attack apparently if you just stand your ground and face the shark then the creature will just analyze you and most likely swim past most likely it's not good enough for me thanks rutzen seems like a nice and reasonable guy until you remember he swims with sharks for a living he's clearly never seen jaws number five lim hoff the ice man most people hate being cold but the ice man sure doesn't wim hof must save a lot on central heating as the man just loves being amongst the frozen things in life this dutch extreme athlete has a remarkable ability to withstand cold temperatures and holds more than a few guinness world records to prove it i trained my all the little muscles and reflexes inside one hour and 53 minutes in direct contact with ice running the fastest half marathon barefoot climbing kilimanjaro in record time in shorts swimming underneath the ice for the furthest distance are just a few of this remarkable man's wild achievements after hoff started racking up record after record scientists became curious of his powers so they tested him and the wim hof breathing method to help with the understanding of neurological diseases hoff's superhuman abilities are the result of an extraordinary power of will and mental clarity hoff even claims that his breathing method which he teaches can relieve such conditions as depression and anxiety scientists even believe that it can bring a person into a mental state where adrenaline is high and cortisol is low which results in the individual experiencing a tremendous feeling of well-being hoff may be the ice man but this remarkable man sounds like a guru to me number four mutant boy can see in the dark when a boy in china was born with blue eyes the parents thought it was very unusual and took him straight to the doctor the doctor insisted that the boy's eyes were normal and sent the family on their way but the boy's eyes were anything but normal as they can see in the dark nang yu hui was playing in his school's playground when the teacher noticed the boy was squinting and complaining of blurred vision when playing outside in the sun one of the boy's friends was overheard saying that nang huoi's eyes are like cat's eyes the interested teacher confronted the boy and shined a light into his eyes only for them to shine back when bluntly asked if he could see in the dark the boy replied yes a journalist interviewed the boy and sent him a range of tasks such as completing a range of exam questions in a pitch-black room the boy passed them all and so the tale of the chinese boy with blue eyes who could see in the dark was born talk about sticking out at school number three the elastic man gary turner can carry up to three pints on his stretched out skin a handy trick for the bar but also talent's good enough to earn him a guinness world record title for the stretchiest skin in the world [Applause] he earned this title in 1999 when he stretched the skin on his stomach to an astounding length of 15.8 centimeters the man of stretchy talents can even pull his neck skin over his mouth in a display that's both creepy and fascinating he is able to do these halloween-like stunts thanks to a rare skin condition called ehlers-danlos syndrome this disorder has the effect of causing the collagen in the skin to become defective collagen strengthens the skin and determines its elasticity so without it you get a sideshow performer like gary people like gary are a great reminder of what a weird and wonderful world we live in he's basically like a real-life version of mr fantastic from fantastic four and elastigirl from the incredibles number two kim peak the real rain man kim peak's brain is as knowledgeable as google the savant man was made famous by the rain man movies which helped to destigmatize people with learning difficulties like kim by showing them in a positive light the screenwriter of the film very morrow even gave the oscar he won for the film to kim as he was the inspiration for the character portrayed by dustin hoffman on screen kim and his dad fran are from salt lake city and one of kim's most famous places to go is the city's library he possesses the remarkable ability to read a page in a book in under 10 seconds with his left eye reading the left page and his right eye reading the right page whereas it would take a regular person three minutes to read the same thing it's not just a cool gimmick as kim also remembers 98 of what he reads sounds like he would be an absolute dream to have on your pub quiz team many people have quizzed kim's knowledge and barely anyone has found a kink in his intellectual armor kim's only weakness is his inability to reason out mathematical problems whilst kim wasn't expected to live until 14 years old he actually ended up living until 58 when a heart attack struck number one daniel temet the boy with the incredible brain daniel temet is an absolute genius the man has a super calculator for a brain he once even recited pi to 22 514 digits over a five hour period in front of invigilators as well as this daniel knows nine languages and for a television documentary he learned the icelandic language in just a week the mind-boggling thing is daniel claims to not even think about the question when it's put forward instead his brain just goes into autopilot and just tells him what the answer is when it's done numbers don't appear regularly inside of daniel's mind either due to him having synesthesia instead of a regular display daniel's brain presents the numbers up to 10 000 each with a different color shape and texture you couldn't make this up this autistic savants abilities are thought to be traced back to an event which happened when he was just a kid daniel had a range of seizures when he was young which resulted in him being diagnosed as epileptic the fascinating man claims it wasn't until after this traumatic event that seemingly rewired his brain to be able to complete such incredible mental tasks amazingly daniel was unaware that he had autism until he was 25 years old and scientists still cannot figure out the magic behind daniel's superhuman brain what a curious set of people which ones shocked you the most what superpower would you choose to have if you could let us know in the comments section below also check out our other cool stuff showing
