good afternoon everyone and welcome as we gather together at this first week of lent to pray today the way of the cross at this new time at 12 15 every friday during lent we are invited to humbly place before our lord all our needs and also all those things that we are in need of forgiveness for we look to our lord who was willing to walk the way of the cross for our sake and for our salvation on this ember day this day of prayer and penance we pray especially for peace in the ukraine we ask our lord to bring a peaceful resolution to the conflict that is currently surrounding that region we pray to for all those who have been impacted and affected by the floods in northern new south wales and queensland we ask our lord to bring them healing and strength in recovery and so to begin the way of the cross today i invite you now as we start our prayer to reflect on those things that we are truly sorry for in our lives and ask god to help us to be transformed in this lenten season by the power of his grace please stand in the name of the father and of the son and of the holy spirit brothers and sisters let us begin by first calling to mind our sins and asking god for his mercy and forgiveness together we pray my god i am sorry for my sins with all my heart in choosing to do wrong and failing to do good i have sinned against you whom i should love above all things i firmly intend with your help to do penance to sin no more and to avoid whatever leads me to sin our savior jesus christ suffered and died for us in his name my god have mercy let us pray lord jesus christ fill our hearts with the light of your spirit so that by following you on your final journey we may come to know the price of our redemption and become worthy of a share in the fruits of your passion death and resurrection you who live and reign for ever and ever at the cross her vigil keeping mary stood in sorrow weeping when her son was crucified the first station jesus is condemned to death we adore you o christ and we bless you for by your holy cross you have redeemed the world and pilate again said to them then what shall i do with the man whom you call the king of the jews and they cried out again crucify him and pilate said to them why what evil has he done but they shouted all them all crucify him so pilate wishing to satisfy the crowd released for them barabbas and having scourged for by your holy cross you have redeemed the world they cried out away with him away with him crucify him pilate said to them shall i crucify your king the chief priests answered we have no king but caesar then he handed him over to them to be crucified so they took jesus and he went out bearing his own cross to the place called the place of a skull which is called in hebrew golgotha our father have redeemed the world surely he has borne our griefs and carried our sorrows yet we esteemed him stricken smitten by god and afflicted but he was wounded for our transgressions he was bruised for our iniquities upon him was the chastisement that made us whole and with his stripes we are healed our father who art in heaven hallowed be thy name thy kingdom come thy will be done on earth as it is veronica presents the tower to jesus we adore you o christ and we bless you for by your holy cross you have redeemed the world for he grew up before him like a young plant and like a root out of dry ground he had no form of comeliness that we should look at him and no beauty that we should desire him he was despised and rejected by men a man of sorrows and acquainted with grief and as one from whom men hide their faces he was despised and we esteemed him not our father who art in heaven hallowed be thy name thy kingdom come thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven give us this day our station jesus falls the second time we adore you o christ and we bless you for by your holy cross you have redeemed the world i am one who has seen affliction under the rod of god's wrath he has driven and brought me into darkness without any light he has blocked my ways with hume stones he has made my paths crooked he has made my teeth grind on gravel and made me cower in ashes our father station jesus speaks we adore you o christ and we bless you for by your holy cross you have redeemed the world and there followed him a great multitude of the people and of women who bewailed and lamented him but jesus turning to them said daughters of jerusalem weep for me but for your children for behold the days are coming when they will say blessed are the barren and the wombs that never pull and the if suck then they will begin to say to the mountains fall on us and to the hills cover us for if they do this when the wood is green what will happen when it is dry our father who art in enters hear me in my fervent pleading fire me with your love of christ [Music] the ninth station jesus falls the third time we adore you o christ and we bless you for by your holy cross you have redeemed the world for we have not a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses but one who in every respect has been tempted as we are yet without sinning let us then with confidence draw near to the throne of grace that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need our father who art in heaven hallowed be thy name thy kingdom come thy will be done on earth as it is mother may this prayer be granted that christ's love may be implanted [Music] the 10th station jesus stripped of his garments we adore you o christ and we bless you for by your holy cross you have redeemed the world the soldiers took his garments and made four parts one for each soldier also his tunic but the tunic was without seam woven from top to bottom so they said to one another let us not tear it but cast lots for it to see whose it shall be this was to fulfill the scripture they parted my garments among them and for my clothing they cast lots our father who art in heaven hallowed be sharing all your grief and torment bearing let me stand and mourn with you [Music] the 11th station jesus is nailed to the cross we adore you o christ and we bless you for by your holy cross you have redeemed the world and when they came to the place which is called the skull there they crucified him and the criminals one on the right and one on the left and jesus said father forgive them for they know not what they do and the people stood by watching but the rulers scoffed at him saying he saved others let him save himself if he is the christ of god his chosen one the soldiers also mocked him coming up and offering him vinegar and saying if you are the king of the jews save yourself there was also an inscription over him this is the king of the jews our father who art in heaven hallowed be creation queen of hope and consolation let me fill your grief sublime [Music] the 12th station jesus dies on the cross we adore you o christ and we bless you for by your holy cross you have redeemed the world it was now about the sixth hour and there was darkness over the whole land until the ninth hour while the sun's light failed and the curtain of the temple was torn into then jesus crying with a loud voice said father into thy hands i commit my spirit and having said this he breathed his last now when the centurion saw what had taken place he praised god and said certainly this man was innocent and all the multitudes who assembled to see the sight when they saw what had taken place returned home beating their breasts and all his acquaintances and the women who had followed him from galilee stood at a distance and saw these things our father who art in heaven hallowed be thy name thy kingdom come thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven give us this day our daily bread and the cross we adore you o christ and we bless you for by your holy cross you have redeemed the world i am poured out like water and all my bones are out of joint my heart is like wax it is melted within my breast my strength is dried up like a potsherd and my tongue cleaves to my jaws thou dost lay me in the dust of death our father who art in heaven hallowed be thy name thy kingdom come thy praise receive me with the fruits of victory [Music] the 14th station jesus is laid in the tomb we adore you o christ and we bless you for by your holy cross you have redeemed the world and when evening had come since it was the day of preparation that is the day before the sabbath joseph of arimathea a respected member of the council who was also himself looking for the kingdom of god took courage and went to pilate and asked for the body of jesus and pilate wondered if he were already dead and summoning the centurion he asked him whether he was already dead and when he learned from the centurion that he was dead he granted the body to joseph and he bought a linen shroud and taking him down wrapped him in the linen shroud and laid him in a tomb which had been hewn out of the rock and he rolled the stone against the door of the tomb our father who art in heaven hallowed be thy name thy kingdom come thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven give us this day our daily bread and
