my thoughts and in my words in what i have done and in what i have failed to do through my fault through my fault through my most grievous fault therefore i ask blessed mary ever virgin all the angels and saints and you my brothers and sisters to pray for me to the lord our god may almighty god have mercy on us forgive us our sins and bring us to everlasting life lord have mercy christ have mercy lord have mercy let us pray convert us o god our savior and instruct our minds by heavenly teaching that we may benefit from the works of lent through our lord jesus christ your son who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the holy spirit god forever and ever the first reading a reading from the book of leviticus the lord spoke to moses he said speak to the whole community of the sons of israel and say to them be holy for i the lord your god am holy you must not steal nor deal deceitfully or fraudulently with your neighbor you must not swear falsely by my name profaning the name of your lord god i am the lord you must not exploit or rob your neighbor you must not keep back the laborers wage until next morning you must not curse the dumb nor put an obstacle in the blind man's way but you must fear your god i am the lord you must not be guilty of unjust verdicts you must neither be partial to the little man nor over owed by the grain you must place judgment on your neighbor according to justice you must not shoulder your own people and you must not jeopardize your neighbor's life i am the lord you must not bear hatred for your brother in your heart you must openly tell him your neighbor of his offense this way you will not take sin upon yourself you must not exact vengeance nor must you hear a grudge against the children of your people you must love your neighbor as yourself i am the lord this is the word of the lord responsible your words lord are spirit and life the law of the lord is perfect it revives the soul the rule of the lord is to be trusted it gives wisdom to the simple the words lord are spirit and life the precepts of the lord are right they glad in the heart the command of the lord is clear it gives light to the eyes your words lord are spirit and life the fear of the lord is holy abiding forever the decrees of the lord are truth and all of them just words lord are spirit and life may the spoken words of my mouth the thoughts of my heart win favor in your sight o lord my rescuer my rock your words lord are spirited please stand to welcome the gospel praise to you lord jesus christ king of endless glory this is the favorable time this is the day of salvation praise to you lord jesus christ king of endless glory the lord be with you a reading from the holy gospel according to matthew jesus said to his disciples when the son of man comes in his glory escarted by all the angels then he will take his seat on his throne throne of glory all the nations will be assembled before him and he will separate men one from another as the shepherd separates sheep from the goats he will place the sheep on his right hand and the goats on his left then the king will say to those at his right hand come you who my father has blessed take for your heritage the kingdom prepared for you since the foundation of the world for i was hungry and you gave me food i was thirsty and you gave me drink i was a stranger and you made me welcome naked and you clothed me sick and you visited me in prison and you came to see me then the virtuous will say to him in reply lord when did we see you hungry and feed you are thirsty and give you drink when did we see you a stranger and make you welcome naked and clothe you sick or in prison and go to see you and the king will answer i tell you solemnly insofar as you did this to one of the least of these brothers of mine you did it to me next he will say to those on his left hand go away from me with your curse upon you to the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels for i was hungry and you never gave me food i was thirsty and you never gave me anything to drink i was a stranger and you never made me welcome naked and you never clothed me sick and in prison and you never visited me then it will be their turn to ask lord when did we see you hungry or thirsty a stranger are naked sick are in prison and did not come to your help then he will answer i tell you solemnly insofar as you neglected to do this to one of the least of these you neglected to do it to me and they will go away to eternal punishment and the virtuous to eternal life the gospel of the lord a few weeks ago someone from japan i was speaking to asked me what's special about christianity the christian religion because if you like many religions have very very good aspects to them so what's special about being a christian i'm not saying i answered as shortly as this but very briefly say well because we believe in the trinity which is a family of love which is god and that trinity made also not we are not just every single person created in his image but the whole of humanity is in the image of the trinity and that's why jesus has this gospel today everyone i meet no matter who they are and this is very universal remember the word catholic means universal it doesn't make any exclusions at all everyone i meet is jesus and why does the church put this gospel on the first monday of the of lent i think it's both because we're now trying to examine what direction is my life going in this is a very definite answer it has to go towards the neighbor the least of my brethren whoever he or she is i'm sure i said to you before what a very holy guy said to me years ago if you're really trying to love your neighbor you don't need a hair shirt blessed are you lord god of all creation for through your goodness we have received the bread we offer you fruit of the earth and work of human hands it will become for us the bread of life by the mystery of this foreign blessed are you lord god of all creation for through your goodness we have received the wine we offer you fruit of the vine and work of human hands it will become our spiritual drink with humble spirit and contrite heart may we be accepted by you o lord and may our sacrifice in your sight this day be pleasing to you lord god pray brothers and sisters that my sacrifice and yours may be acceptable to god the almighty father may this devout oblation be acceptable to you o lord that by your power it may sanctify our manner of life and gain for for us your conciliation and pardon through christ our lord the lord be with you lift up your hearts let us give thanks to the lord our god it is truly right and just our duty and our salvation always and everywhere to give you thanks lord holy father almighty and eternal god through christ our lord for by your gracious gift each year your faithful await the sacred paschal feasts with the joy of minds made pure so that more eagerly intent on prayer and on the works of charity and participating in the mysteries by which they have been reborn they may be led to the fullness of grace that you bestow on your sons and daughters and so with angels and archangels with thrones and dominions and with all the hosts and powers of heaven we sing the hymn of your glory as without end we acclaim holy holy holy lord god of hosts heaven and earth are full of your glory hosanna in the highest blessed is he who comes in the name of the lord hosanna in the highest you are indeed holy oh lord the fount of all holiness make holy therefore these gifts we pray by sending down your spirit upon them like the dewfall so that they may become for us the body and blood of our lord jesus christ at the time he was betrayed and entered willingly into his passion he took bread and giving thanks broke it and gave it to his disciples saying take this all of you and eat of it for this is my body which will be given up for you in a similar way when supper was ended he took the chalice and once more giving thanks he gave it to his disciples saying take this all of you and drink from it for this is the chalice of my blood the blood of the new and eternal covenant which will be poured out for you and for many for the forgiveness of sins do this in memory of me the mystery of faith when we eat this bread and drink this cup we proclaim your death o lord until you come again therefore as we celebrate the memorial of his death and resurrection we offer you lord the bread of life and the chalice of salvation giving thanks that you have held us worthy to be in your presence and minister to you humbly we pray that partaking of the body and blood of christ we may be gathered into one by the holy spirit remember lord your church spread throughout the world and bring her to the fullness of charity together with francis our pope and anthony our bishop and all the clarity remember also our brothers and sisters who have fallen asleep in the hope of the resurrection and all who have died in your mercy welcome them into the light of your face have mercy on us all we pray that with the blessed virgin mary mother of god with blessed joseph her spouse with the blessed apostles and all the saints who have pleased you throughout the ages we may merit to be coheirs to eternal life and may praise and glorify you through your son jesus christ through him and with him and in him o god almighty father in the unity of the holy spirit all glory and honor is yours forever and ever at the savior's command and formed by divine teaching we dare to say our father who art in heaven hallowed be thy name thy kingdom come thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven give us this day our daily bread and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us and lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil deliver us lord we pray from every evil graciously grant peace in our days that by the help of your mercy we may be always free from sin and safe from all distress as we await the blessed hope and the coming of our savior jesus christ lord jesus christ who said to your apostles peace i leave you my peace i give you look not on our sins but on the faith of your church and graciously grant her peace and unity in accordance with your will who live and reign forever and ever the peace of the lord be with you always lamb of god you take away the sins of the world have mercy on us lamb of god you take away the sins of the world have mercy on us lamb of god you take away the sins of the world grant us peace behold the lamb of god behold him who takes away the sins of the world blessed are those called to the supper of the lamb lord i am not worthy that you should enter under my roof but only say the word and my soul shall be healed the body of christ let us pray we pray o lord that in receiving your sacrament we may experience help both in mind and body so that kept safe in both we made glory to the fullness of heavenly healing through christ our lord the lord be with you may almighty god bless you the father and the son and the holy spirit go forth the mass has ended and thank you and thank those watching from livestream
