okay look to your covenant oh lord and forget the life of of your poor and forget not the light of your poor ones forever in the name of the father and of the son and of the holy spirit the grace of our lord jesus christ and the love of god and the communion of the holy spirit be with you all you're all very welcome for our mass today including those who are watching my live stream we're saying the prayers of the mass for refugees and exiles which is very suitable i think poland slovakia those countries boarding on remain on ukraine may have taken in even by now a million people so especially remember the refugees and exiles from ukraine brothers and sisters let us acknowledge our sins and so prepare ourselves to celebrate the sacred mysteries i confess to almighty god and to you my brothers and sisters that i have greatly sinned in my thoughts and in my words in what i have done and in what i have failed to do through my fault through my fault through my most grievous fault therefore i ask blessed mary ever virgin all the angels and saints and you my brothers and sisters to pray for me to the lord our god may almighty god have mercy on us forgive us our sins and bring us to everlasting life lord have mercy christ have mercy lord have mercy let us pray oh god to whom no one is a stranger and from whose help no one is ever distant look with compassion on refugees and exiles on segregated persons and on lost children restore them we pray to a homeland and give us a kind heart for the needy and for strangers through our lord jesus christ your son who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the holy spirit god for ever and ever a reading from the prophet hazard shout for all you are worth raise your voice like a trumpet proclaim their faults to my people their sins to the house of jacob they seek me today after day they long to know my ways like a nation that wants to act with integrity and not ignore the law of this law of its god they ask me for laws that are just they long for god to draw near why should we fast if you never see it why do penance if you never notice look you do business on your fast days you oppressed all your workmen look you quarrel and squabble when you fast and strike the poor man with your fist fasting like yours today will never make your voice heard on high in that the sort of fast that pleases me a truly penitential day for men hanging your head like a reed lying down on circles and ashes is what you call fasting a day acceptable to the lord is not this the sore fasting that pleases me it is the lord who speaks to break unjust feathers undo the thorns the thongs of the yolk to let their press go free and break every yolk to share your bread with the hungry and shelter the homeless poor to close the man you say to be naked and not turn from your own kin then will your light shine like the dawn and your wound be quickly healed over your integrity will go before you and the glory of the lord behind you cry and the lord will answer call and he will say i am here this is the where of the lord response a broken humble heart o god you will not scorn have mercy on me god in your kindness in your compassion blot out my offense wash me more and more from my guilt and cleanse me from my sin my offense is truly i know them my sin is always before me against you you alone have i sent what is evil in your sight i have done foreign sacrifice you take no delight burn offering from me and you would refuse my sacrifice a country spirit a humble contrite heart you will not spurn gospel acclamation glory and praise to you lord jesus christ see good and not evil so that you may live and the lord will be with you glory and praise to you lord jesus christ the lord be with you a reading from the holy gospel according to matthew john's disciples came to jesus and said why is it that we and the pharisees fast but your disciples do not jesus replied surely the bridegroom's attendance would never think of mourning so long as the bridegroom is still with them but the time will come for the bridegroom to be taken away from them and then they will fast the gospel of the lord now i know i've told you this story before but it really fits the gospel today there was a famous there still is a famous buddhist monk from thailand and he had been in europe trying to understand christianity and stayed with the christian community but he could never has understand as i think buddhist generally can can't understand the suffering and ugliness as aware of the cross but one day he was praying in a church with a very big cross has he had such a good experience of living in this christian community he understood it's not just the cross but it's the love behind the cross that matters and as we're moving now into lent we might think of negative things but rather it's to help me to love more not just to punish me but particularly to help me to love more and the phrase that's there the bridegroom is still with them in the old testament the bridegroom is always god so jesus is now speaking as god the bridegroom is still there so and he is still with us today if you think of the words used or consecration where we speak of the new covenant the new testament in my blood that word covenant our testament is relationship the marriage relationship between god and the church between jesus and us so really to think about that and then the different things we're doing in lent let's just say even prayer for me it's always i really won't fit in longer prayers but because i often say them far too fast to say them slowly to think more carefully about them to pray better the same goes for fasting maybe fasting from the internet i certainly waste too much time reading the news there are other things that we could we could fast on there as well and then i'm skimming well we know what that is blessed are you lord god of all creation for through your goodness we have received the bread we offer you fruit of the earth and work of human hands it will become for us the bread of life by the mystery of this water and wine may we come to share in the divinity of christ who humble himself to share in our humanity blessed are you lord god of all creation for through your goodness we have received the wine we offer you fruit of the vine and work of human hands it will become our spiritual drink with humble spirit and contrite heart may we be accepted by you o lord and may our sacrifice in your sight this day be pleasing to you lord god wash me o lord for my iniquity cleanse me from my sin pray brothers and sisters that my sacrifice and yours may be acceptable to god the almighty father oh lord who willed that your son should lay down his life to gather into one your scattered children grant that this sacrifice of your peace may bring about communion of minds and hearts and an increase in fraternal charity through christ our lord the lord be with you lift up your hearts let us give thanks to the lord our god it is truly right and just our duty and our salvation always and everywhere to give you thanks lord holy father almighty and eternal god for through bodily fasting you restrain our faults raise up our minds and bestow both virtue and its reward through christ our lord through him the angels praise your majesty dominions adore and powers tremble before you heaven and the virtues of heaven and the blessed seraphim worship together with exaltation may our voices we pray join with theirs in humble praise as we acclaim holy holy holy lord god of hosts heaven and earth are full of your glory hosanna in the highest blessed is he who comes in the name of the lord hosanna in the highest you are indeed holy oh lord the fount of all holiness make holy therefore these gifts we pray by sending down your spirit upon them like the dewfall so that they may become for us the body and blood of our lord jesus christ at the time he was betrayed and entered willingly into his passion he took bread and giving thanks broke it and gave it to his disciples saying take this all of you and eat of it for this is my body which will be given up for you in a similar way when supper was ended he took the chalice and once more giving thanks he gave it to his disciples saying take this all of you and drink from it for this is the chalice of my blood the blood of the new and eternal covenant which will be poured out for you and for many for the forgiveness of sins do this in memory of me the mystery of faith when we eat this bread and drink this cup we proclaim your death o lord until you come again therefore as we celebrate the memorial of his death and resurrection we offer you lord the bread of life and the chalice of salvation giving thanks that you have held us worthy to be in your presence and minister to you humbly we pray that partaking of the body and blood of christ we may be gathered into one by the holy spirit remember lord your church spread throughout the world and bring her to the fullness of charity together with francis our pope and anthony our bishop and all the clergy remember also our brothers and sisters who have fallen asleep in the hope of the resurrection and all who have died in your mercy welcome them into the life of your face have mercy on us all we pray that with the blessed virgin mary mother of god with blessed joseph her spouse with the blessed apostles and all the saints who have pleased you throughout the ages we may merit to be coheirs to eternal life and may praise and glorify you through your son jesus christ through him and with him and in him oh god almighty father in the unity of the holy spirit all glory and honor is yours forever and ever at the savior's command and formed by divine teaching we dare to say our father who art in heaven hallowed be thy name thy kingdom come thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven give us this day our daily bread and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us and lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil deliver us lord we pray from every evil graciously grant peace in our days that by the help of your mercy we may be always free from sin and safe from all distress as we await the blessed hope and the coming of our savior jesus christ lord jesus christ who said to your apostles peace i leave you my peace i give you look not on our sins but on the faith of your church and graciously grant her peace and unity in accordance with your will who live and reign forever and ever the peace of the lord be with you always lamb of god you take away the sins of the world have mercy on us lamb of god you take away the sins of the world have mercy on us lamb of god you take away the sins of the world grant us peace behold the lamb of god behold him who takes away the sins of the world blessed are those called to the supper of the lamb lord i am not worthy that you should enter under my roof but only say the word and my soul shall be healed the body let us pray oh lord who have renewed us with the one bread and the one chalice grant that in sincerity of heart we may show true compassion towards strangers and the abandoned and that all of us may deserve to be gathered together at last in the land of the living through christ our lord the lord be with you may almighty god bless you the father and the son and the holy spirit go forth the mass has ended and thank you and thank those watching on livestream you
