Never seen this channel before but wow if that's what counts as struggling for him I'm impressed. He had that thing open in like 3 minutes!

That's huge!

You rarely see him take this long. And he would consider it for his own house.

I mean... struggles is a bit of an overexaggeration... it takes him 140 seconds to pick it, avoiding the false gates!

I mean, it's a good lock, some he's picked in seconds, and he has it in the shortlist for locks he would use on his house (if key cutters for it were common in the US)

I don't know what other considerations there are, but in this video he has a few locks on display he says he hasn't been able to open.

Some with great difficulty only.

Probably these will make up the top part of the top 10?

When I went to uni I was an RA at the college. I had to carry 20+ of those bastards every night to do my rounds! Nice to know they didn't skimp out on security

It takes about that long to unlock a well-used Galaxy with the key.

this is the lock picking lawyer and what i have for you today is a lock for which i've received many requests from my viewers in australia it's the second generation of the buy lock a high security cylinder made by the australian lock company its most notable feature is a u-shaped key with two different sets of bidding each blade of the key interacts with a bank of six sliders inside the lock and each one of those sliders has both a false gate and a true gate there's also a small moving interactive element at the base of the key you can see it in the middle of the u and again on the bottom that doesn't make picking any harder but it can make it very difficult to produce an unauthorized key that said it's a pretty tricky lock to open something that's going to give even experienced pickers a fair bit of trouble so let's see if we can get it open and then i'll take it apart and show you what's inside the first thing we're going to do is secure this in a vise so it would be as we would find it in the wild then i'm going to use top of the keyway tension with this 50 000 thick pry bar and a standard hook in 25 thousandths nothing on one starting on the left side i should say nice click on two nothing on three click on four nothing on five or six back to the beginning nothing on one two is binding nice click on two nothing on three nice click on four nothing on five or six nothing on one two there we go little click out of three nothing on four click out of five little click on six now the way these work is generally you will set one side before the other just got a couple clicks out of three so i'm trying to set everything on the left side first then we'll move on to the right we'll get a good bit of movement on that core to indicate that everything on the left side has been set looks like number six little click there and we got that movement let me just go through and check to make sure everything on the left side is set and it certainly feels that way i'm checking the interactive element now nothing there on the right side nothing on one two maybe a little click on three nothing on four click out of five click out of six nothing on one two three is binding nice click there number four i think four four feels like it's in a gate we'll have to go back to it later nothing on five or six click out of one one still feels like it's rubbing that might be a false gate there we go a lot more movement on the higher gate two is binding nice click there nothing on three four is binding nice click there a little bit more movement i wonder if i've set everything on that side let's check the interactive element and we did indeed get this open okay let's take this apart and i will show you what's inside i'm going to get my pinning tray and this happens to be a quick change cylinder version of the lock which means i can get a special key that has these little dimples on either side and of course the correct bidding for the lock and turn it just a little bit and the whole cylinder comes right out the front okay now to take this apart i'm going to have to slide this brass cover off as i do that i'm going to be careful not to lose any of the several springs that we will find inside of this lock let me just get a pair of pliers and pull on that okay you can see a whole bunch of springs there let me dump all of these out and then we'll start taking all of the moving elements out of here okay let's zoom in just a little bit so you can see some of these pieces as i take it apart right now you can see all 12 of the sliders i would take the sidebars out but on the quick change version there are factory crimps that hold them in place and i don't want to break them but i will show you the fingers on the inside of those sidebars okay let's take a close look at one of these sliders we can see there is a nice deep hole that is the true gate then there's also a small shallow hole that's the false gate and into those holes slip little pins that are on the insides of the slot the sidebar you can see all those pins moving into where the sliders would be as i push in on the sidebars as for that interactive element it pushes up on this little brass piece right here and you can see the blocking bar on the side and those move together okay folks the bylock has a lot going for it it's probably on my list of high security cylinders that i would consider using on my own house probably in the top 10 i'd say there is a downside however and that is that the keys do require special tools to cut and bend and the locksmiths that do have those tools and support the system unfortunately are not terribly common in the u.s in any case that's all i have for you today on this second generation bylock if you do have any questions or comments about it please put them below if you like this video and would like to see more like it please subscribe and as always have a nice day thank you
