man how awesome is power especially in video games especially when it's godlike not necessarily a god like Kratos and God of War - or smite characters for example but the games where you actually play the role of God you play God not play as a God do you get it these games are often labeled as godlike so today in game X are the top ten godlike games of all time starting off at number 10 we have Reyes or Reyes or whatever it's called in this game you control powerful giants that help you shape the planet and I mean that you're literally creating it mountains forests oceans animal life you know all the things that make up earth or a planet but you don't have control over the people that live on it you can't mess with freewill so if you've ever seen Bruce Almighty you know exactly what I'm talking about anyway each giant has their own abilities so you'll be using all of them when the time calls for them specifically the art style is really cool too everything seems like I found a round plane almost which yes I know planets are round obviously but this seems like it's cut in half and you're just looking at it straight on it's a really cool little godlike game that's definitely worth checking out because it's kind of different than everything else on this list and real quick and number 9 we're gonna talk about pocket gods y'all remember there's silly little mobile game where you managed a little island filled with little minion like dudes and they just they're they're just like mess with pretty much you can pick them up and drop them smite them with lightning turn on anti-gravity there's a ton of different ways to mess with these little guys it's also technically episodic and there's almost 50 episodes now so there's more than enough content for you if you do actually decide to jump in and play which I think you should because it's a neat little mobile game and I don't think we play enough mobile games honestly moving on to number eight we have universe in okay so we have one that scales up a bit from you know just being a God looking at people on the ground to a god taking over the course of a civilization for an entire planet from space this procedure generates planets for you tackle starting off with your civilization being in the Stone Age and needing to build up basic structures for housing and inventing stuff like fire like a lot of city builder and God Gamze your civilization will progress in advanced technologically and socially as you keep building and moving forward which unlocks new buildings and tech since all the planets are dynamic and procedurally generated there's a ton of variation to be seen which add to the replayability which honestly is a pretty big selling point for a game like this some planets will even have alien inhabitants on them which can work out to either be friendly but also can be incredibly hostile and another danger element to keep in mind when advancing your civilization as you need to make sure it's properly defended against them it's worth noting that you're not clicking dudes and ordering them around your citizens have the ability to make their own decisions and just do their own things in general which can lead to Wars and stuff like that as well as adding an extra layer of gameplay where you need to keep your new civilization loyal and under control of your all-seeing eye there's a lot of moving parts in play especially when you get into the ways you influence your civilizations and the ways in which you can alter the world and it might be too much to get into here but know that if you're down with that level of civic and a god-like game then this one is right up your alley man this one might be your jam at number 7 rise to ruins is an interesting one because it sort of blends the god game design with survival elements while also be in kind of a city building strategy game yeah that's a lot I know feeling itself as a god like village simulator it gets weird by trying to make something in the vein of actraiser and black and white while at the same time including things like tower defense and other unconventional elements in an effort to really mix up the genre that said a lot of what you're doing is village management which is what you're going to have to do to make your able to build off proper defenses to protect your village from a monster horde that comes at night while you continue to build up the fences and expand your village in the daylight hours your godlike powers however allow you to do stuff like blast enemies from above pick up and move objects and creatures alter the terrain of the world heal your villagers change the rate of your resource growth you know stuff like that while it's not a traditional god game in the strictest sense it's still in that arena and even more so when you dip into the game's optional sandbox mode where you can just kind of do whatever you want including stuff like messing with whether time of day and it's a map spawn monsters and villagers were ever you know God stuff and a number six from dust is made in that classic God game mold to the point where a lot of people have described it as a spiritual successor to the classic God game populous like other games in the genre you're watching over the world from your God like first-person view on high and you can manipulate the environment to save and protect a nomadic tribe on the planet from various hazards and threats while also helping to guide them toward things that will help them find their lost knowledge you were able to manipulate the environment by physically altering terrain with different types of matter in real time for example you could pick up a bunch of Earth from one area and drop it over in the water between a beach and an island to create a land bridge or dropping water on lava to great stone stuff like that while also paying attention to how other elements interact so let's say your new land bridge doesn't completely erode by moving water before your tribe makes their way to safety stuff like that in addition to general terrain manipulation you could also guide nomads to totems to build out new villages and whatnot you also get a lot of the god gain trappings that make games like populist and even city builders fun and interesting like when shamans will warn you of an oncoming disaster like a tsunami or wildfire or something and you need to adapt to protect your little guys on the ground before things get really bad it's a really fun game that may have fallen by the wayside for a lot of people given how early on in the whole digital-only game thing but it's still worth checking out even now almost a decade later at number 5 okay so universe sandbox is kind of a weird one at its core the game is a pretty impressive space and gravity simulator to the point where you could consider it more of a piece of educational software than a game when used as originally intended but I mean we're not using it as intended though are we yeah if you're some kind of nerd you can just accurately simulate any number of preset and default star systems but if you're a cool guy who doesn't follow the rules then the game really opens up to you allowing you to basically play God and create your own star systems and orbits and all that and if you wanted to you can ramp up those orbital speeds until everything just goes haywire resulting in being able to just throw planets off into the unknown regions of space or even like simulate things like the collision of the Milky Way and Andromeda galaxies you know just to see what would happen just because screw it why not on top of that the game now has the art support so you can get even more intimate with the absurd and ridiculous possibilities and honestly not a lot of god games take you to the cosmic scale at this one so it's probably worth checking out if you're into space in general number four dude the dungeon keeper series is one that I really miss these games were an absolute blast there was a third one in development but it was unfortunately cancelled anyway dungeon keepers title kind of explains it all you're the keeper of a dungeon and you're trying to build up your dungeon and become powerful enough to take out rival dungeons in other realms and to defeat the heroic forces that are hell-bent on stopping you from taking over the world there's a lot to put into this whoo they make sure your imps are working around the clock to clear out more space for your overgrown dungeon while also mining gold which you use to expand your dungeon building new rooms and recruiting new types of monsters you have to make sure your monsters are happy too because if they aren't they will wreck your dungeon before deserting you so you have to make sure you have a good food supply and have something set up to entertain them and keep them happy there will be raised as well heroes will break down the walls make their way into your in dungeon and trying to destroy it and steal your treasures and you have to send your monsters after them to take them out you are in total control with your cursor being a creepy little hand that you can use to pick up and move around monsters or you can smack them around to make them work faster so you're totally in control of everything you are the dungeon God and the only way to further build out your dungeon and take over the world is to rule with an iron fist coming in at number 3 The Sims is a weird one because you're like half playing a God role well actually maybe it's full on God because you can kind of create life and you can kind of end life as well so I don't know anyway y'all know the sims is by now you create yourself a sim or family of sins and you guide them through their life hopefully doing a better job than you've done with your own it's you that makes their decisions yeah they can make their own sometimes like if you don't let them use the bathroom they'll still go just you know on the floor you pick their job their schooling who they do and do not like and who they'll eventually marry if you decide they're deserving of that I guess and honestly it's insanely addicting which is really odd that a game about walking someone through their life is addicting and possibly more fun than doing it for yourself but of course in a game where you're in control of someone's life and get pretty dark you can ruin your sim if you choose to making life utterly horrible for them if you just really wanted to do that can also just straight-up kill them by dumping them in a pool and removing the ladders so they drown or building a four wall structure putting them in there removing the door and then set off fireworks to have them die in a fiery wreck yeah dude like I said this game can get super dark if you want to go in that direction at number 2 we have spore men I remember when this one came out I was so excited for this having been a huge fan of The Sims 1 and 2 this was the next big Maxis IP in Spore you kind of play a god I mean you develop your own species from a microscopic organism and you see it through every form of its own evolution unlike the sims spore does have something that you're working towards them the goal is to evolve from a microscopic organism to space traveler and eventually reaching a black hole at the center of the galaxy it was actually pretty cool and you got attached to this thing that you created starting off in the cell stage there are some decisions made here that will affect at the creature stage such as whether or not you become an herbivore or carnivore once you hit the creature stage you get to build out your creature and make changes to its physical appearance then you move on to the tribal stage where the game kind of turns into an RTS and you're working on befriending or conquering the other tribes before moving on to the Civilization stage and after that you move on to the space stage so it's a pretty insane game when you've released it down and think about it and super interesting to evolution the video game are you kidding me of course I want that that sounds awesome finally at number one we have to talk about black and white this is a game that you may not have thought about in quite some time remember this older Lionhead Studios IP in this game you are literally playing a God who rules over the people that inhabit a series of islands Lionhead was super into the idea of good and evil and how your actions affect the world way before fable ever released here the game world is affected directly by how you act and you have an avatar creature who interacts with the people of the islands and how you treat that avatar will determine not only how they look but also how they act so they're kind of like a physical representation of you or product of you with them starting out small and growing as you become more and more powerful you have to physically teach it how to act as well how to fight what and when to eat how to act toward the people and you do so with a reinforcement learning system if the creature does something you don't like you give it a slap and if it does something good you can pet it to reinforce good behavior definitely not a mechanic that aged that well playing black and white is actually close to impossible now seeing that there isn't a digital edition out there and you need the physical disks actually play it pretty sure Microsoft owns the IP and they haven't done anything with it yet so the only way to play it now unfortunately is by having the discs or piracy which is something that we straight-up do not all condone so hopefully Microsoft makes this available sometime in the near future and those are ten of the greatest god-like games we want to hear from you so mean it's down in the comments and let us know what you think as you already know him the like button really helps us out and if you're new here
