you got bit by the NZXT virus and you got bit hard by the NZXT virus on this one it's costing you significant levels of performance welcome back to PC Builder I'm Jason this is boost my build the series where we take your PC build list we tear them up we put them back together and massively increase your performance and we've got two crazy builds for this episode we've got a $450 build that's right a $450 build making all the classic budget Builder mistakes can we save them from their low budget and we got a $1,000 our 1440p gaming PC that looks more like 1080p levels of performance can we actually save them at $11,000 remember if you get value out of this video give it a like so makes a huge difference Channel especially this guy right here and of course subscribe click that Bell icon that way you get notified when we release cool content with that let's jump into it before that this video is sponsored by vipd key say goodbye to crazy expensive Windows 10 licenses and that terrible activate Windows 10 Watermark right now use the links in the video description head over to vipd key and get a Windows 10 home or Pro OEM license for a great price pick your product license then use the PC Builder discount code pc25 for an additional 25% off go to the activation settings on your PC put in the code and boom you have a fully licensed Windows 10 for a crazy low price which can be upgraded for free to Windows 11 use the links in the video description below all right we've got Reaper wolf I think that is and they say they're doing a build mostly for gaming but with some productivity for music software so kind of a dual purpose but that's okay but mostly gaming I want to focus on that games that they've play are Call of Duty Grand Theft Auto Tomb Raider those kinds of games their budget is $11,000 $1,000 has been a tricky price point throughout this year it's kind of the Divide line between kind of last gen CPUs with bigger gpus or current gen CPUs like the ryzen 7600 with much weaker gpus and it's been a real challenge so let's see what you got how does this keep happening how does it keep happening I just don't understand what am I talking about you got bit by the NZXT virus and you got bit hard by the NZXT virus on this one it's costing you significant levels of performance now listen I stand back and I look at this build and you know it's it's fish it's fish it might be an okayish production level build but for gaming this is just nowhere near a th000 bucks and in fact let's start there at the budget you finished at $1,661 that includes in like a $10 Fan Hub you already purchased that's fine I don't mind spending 10 bucks on a Fan Hub if that's what you want to do but let's jump into the performance here cuz I'm not seeing it let's start off with the GPU because remember you are primarily gaming primarily gaming and then also doing some music production here and I feel like you've LED with the music production not with the gaming part it almost feels like maybe you actually what you actually want to do is reverse we finished with a power color F radon RX 6650 XT 8 gigs listen this GPU you can typically pick up for like $220 $230 right now 260 is way too way too much money now I'm aware the prices are fluctuating really rapidly during the holidays it's possible that when you selected this GPU was closer to that more acceptable price but honestly for $1,000 this there should be no 66 in front of anything right now I don't even want to see an RTX 3060 in this build we should be getting a much much bigger GPU capable of 1440p gaming I see what happened here so you got you grabbed the I5 12600 KF which is again back on sale for 155 as I'm doing this it keeps fluctuating 1 second it'll be 199 then it'll be back to 154 it's a good pickup if you're primarily a production a production person but I think you're kind of confused you said I mostly game and then I do a little bit of production now gaming PCs will do that little bit of production for you I would only go to a more expensive CPU platform like the I5 12600 KF if you either have more money to spend or if you are primarily focused on that production but there are a lot better options right now given the cooling requirements and other things for this CPU that we could go with instead for the cooler listen the Deep cool ak400 it's good you can get the ag400 it's a little cheaper the fan I think is slightly lower quality but it's also argb you know right now $32 is it enough to cool the I5 12600 CF yeah it the it's the Fan's going to run a little faster but it's especially in mostly gaming workloads it'll be just fine if you really hit it hard and you're hitting all 10 cores at the same time I'd probably want something a little bigger but honestly again I just don't don't think we need this level of cooling even we don't need to be spending this much money on our cooler for the motherboard I love the ASRock z690 extreme $140 even over at Amazon right now and at new wake now I will say the Wi-Fi version of this has also come down and price it it had been kind of stupidly priced at $200 now it's only 10 bucks more I'd probably pick that up just for the Wi-Fi and Bluetooth if I want to connect my Bluetooth headphones or something like that on it good motherboard upgraded audio on it again if I'm doing my music production this is probably where I'm focused right now as long as I don't have an external Dack or something else or kind of those kind of Technology things to plug in for the ram listen I don't hate uh ddr4 3600 cl18 it's the same speed as 3200 cl16 it's just we're running the memory controller on the CPU remember even though the ram is the same speed you're forcing the memory controller on the chip to run at a higher frequency some of them start to struggle to stay in gear one around this speed I think 3600 probably fine $59 you want with 32 gigs which I guess for your music production stuff again ddr4 is so cheap still still so cheap that I don't mind going with a a cheaper kit like this love to see 3600 CL 16 what that would cost instead that's tighter timings faster Ram but I can't fault you for this kit for the drive why do we have the West black SN 850x two Terra look the price not bad 130 for this this is a super nice Production Drive but we don't need anything like this I just I'm not loving this selection I think way too expensive for what we're doing here's here's where I think things really fell apart let's start off with the the case and then we'll go to the fans and we just spent an insane amount of money on our case and our fans NZXT H5 a flow you're like Jason what's wrong with this case the problem is it only comes with two included fans and NZXT is so bad about this they're so bad because they want you to buy their fans afterwards and you didn't buy their fans but you bought somebody else has spent a lot of extra money kind of kiding this thing out with fans when there are other cases that honestly look just as good as this if not better in my estimation again that we're building a PC for you not for me so if your tastes are different that's fine I just think that we could get similar looking cases that come with all the included fans we need for about $90 in fact even less than $90 because then you went out and spent another $60 and this is not a bad price this is the antech prism 5c this is a five pack of fans so I don't want to say that's a a crazy amount to to spend on fans five argb fans that's actually a pretty good price because you're getting them for what like you know 13 or 14 bucks each so I'm I'm going to give you props on getting a good kit but again we spent $90 on our case and then we spent $60 on the fan pack and then on top of that you've already spent $10 on the fan controller so how much are we spending on our case solution it's way too much for this level build the power supply look CX 650m this is a CTI rated unit it's a semi modular I I quite like it $8 a little bit more than I'd like to spend you can get some cheaper CT rated units but I'm not going to fault you if you want a Corsair power supply that's absolutely fine but overall for the total of $1,016 that we spent here we are getting 1080p possibly kind of 1440p 60fps performance when we should be doing way way better I call this the insane $1,000 1440p gaming PC cuz you're going to get tons and tons of frames 1440p super high settings we'll go through that in just a second I finished at it $13.78 yeah I know I'm $378 over 15 bucks cheaper than you were coming in right now given current pricing and I think this is going to meet all of your needs in terms of the music production as well as the gaming let's punch through this let's start off with the GPU where we made a massive upgrade to an RX 6800 RX 6800 you can still find these for $399 they are absolutely one of the best price performance gpus out there right now they're probably going to sell through this holiday season we might see a trickle of them in January I would snap one up snap one up if they're not available go with the 6700 XT or 6750 XT 12 GB cards for close to like $320 $330 right now but this is going to give you insane levels of performance 16 gigs of vram 16 gigs of vram really really good performance how good a performance are we going to get let's go through this is the tech spot RTX 460 review so relatively recent data from this year look at that this RX 6800 giving you $9 3 average FPS at 1440p remember this includes titles where rate tracing is turned on by default so for AMD cars especially the 6,000 series I just turn rate tracing off you're going to get way way more frames you're almost you're right there with the RTX 470 look at that you're only a couple frames behind that's crazy for $400 look at the r 6650 XT 60 average FPS 59 average FPS this is going to give you an insane amount of FPS over that RX 6650 XD that you were going to buy now in order to power this build we are going with the older CPU platform you wanted to go with the I5 12600 KF I kind of wanted to preserve that if I could because I know you wanted that extra production power I don't think you really need it I used to do everything on a ryzen 5600 produce the videos for this channel on a ryzen 5600 until we move to our new location I built a new ryzen 7600 system that sits next to me here so this is a very powerful CPU for all kinds of tasks including things like music production but you can go with that 12600 KF build it's going to cost you about $50 or $60 more once you get all the cooling and everything else involved I went with this because it's $129 and it comes with an included stock cooler that would be perfect for this but but I did decide to go ahead and invest a little bit of money and get you a thermalite assassin 120 this is the refined argb model this is a really powerful single Tower air cooler for $19 again any of these single Tower coolers are going to be fine I just want the Acoustics to sound a little bit better kind of cut the noise of that uh cooler a little bit when we're doing kind of really CPU intensive tasks maybe like music production for instance if you kind of want a little little bit more of a silent environment and I also got you a motherboard a b550 motherboard with that upgraded ALC 1220 audio which is the azrock Phantom gaming b550 PG veloca we've continued to recommend this now down to $129 it's been $129 for a while it's re. two slots on it so you will be able to upgrade that storage in the future which is really really nice and on top of that it's got upgraded audio it's got great rear PIR panel on it it looks amazing it's going to look really really sick in your build and I think you're going to feel really really good about this motherboard overall for the ram I went with the gskill rip Jaws this is a 32 gigabyte kit ddr4 3600 cl16 so tighter timings than the kit that you were looking at it's going to perform a little bit better especially given that we have a a CPU that's going to give us a slight CPU bind with our GPU because our GPU is quite powerful and I know the ryzen 5600 is going to start to CPU bottleneck a little bit so I want to give it a little bit faster Ram to kind of alleviate some of that and this is going to be a great kit for the drive we went ahead and got rid of that very very expensive drive we saved $35 on the team group mp34 two terab instead as a dam cash is going to give you all the transfer speed that I think you really need even for the music production stuff you'll note that SSD prices are coming back up you could pick this drive up for like closer to $80 not that long ago so I would snap these up while you can get them now for the case I'm going to help you out with that NZXT virus that you got bit by I'm going to give you a case that's amazing we built in the Deep cool ch56 now we built in a digital version of this which has the CPU and GPU temps and the digital RAR on the side but this is an amazing case four included argb fans it's $89 right now at new just buy this thing don't think twice it comes with it an included fan and argb hub on the back of it so you don't even need the one that you bought you can use it if you want and it's all pre-wired the airf flow on this thing is insane in insane I absolutely love this case it's very very premium it even has a little GPU stand sag bracket in it so you're going to get taken care of for $89 not like $180 for the power supply I just went with something relatively cheap here I wanted to shave off get as close to that ,000 you can go with that CX 650 uh unit that you were picking up perfectly fine just a little bit more expensive and it would have put us oh quite a bit over $1,000 so I went with the MSI mag a650 BN they're both C tier rated the only difference is this this one's not really semi module it's just it's you know standard PSU $60 but it's a very very good unit and it's going to give you the power that you need so for $13.78 we are going to get a build that absolutely smokes smokes that poor RX 6650 XT build that you would put together with that I5 12600 KF and it's still going to give you the music production capabilities that you're looking for remember that's a side gig though we're mostly gaming here and this rig is going to dominate at 1440p we upgraded your RAM we kept all the great features on that motherboard by going to a good b550 and we got you that great looking deep cool ch56 RGB case so I hope you feel like your build is boosted we've got Austin Stacy and Austin Stacy just says boost by Bill Jason $450 budget for a friend son now typically I don't use these for the video If there's not enough description about what you're using it for what kind of games you play all that kind of stuff but we have had a lot of requests lately to do more kind of micr budget content so I wanted to pick out a build that was less than $500 let's see what you got classic classic classic classic mistakes here classic budget gaming PC Building mistakes going on all over the place on this build what am I talking about I'm talking about when you're basically trying to grab just the cheapest thing at every slot without really asking the question is this actually going to fit the build is this actually going to be good for my performance and we've gotten some things just complete trap doors we're trying to save like $3 and we've just completely kneecapped the performance of this PC let's start off with the budget now it says 42157 but I noticed there's no price for the RAM and the Ram's a real problem we'll get to that in a second that kid Ram is about 30 bucks so $451 so you basically finished right at your budget on the one hand you say yay Jason if I put all this together it would work is is but I'm not sure you'd really enjoy the level of performance or your friend son would enjoy the level of performance here let's start off with the GPU I I do like the rx580 generally for these cheaper like sub $500 builds now these are used used gpus you can get them still new for anywhere from like $110 up to $130 but you can pick up a used RX 588 gigabyte card for $64 now if you're not familiar with our monthly GPU market update report we go through all the gpus right now including used gpus including sub $100 so check out that video there's a lot of other good options here for $100 that I would if we can spend a 100 bucks on our GPU rather than the rx580 let's talk about something you did really right I love going with the Intel core I3 1200 F great budget platform you can also go ryzen 5500 here really not a lot of difference between the two platforms $93 is going to give you really good gaming performance and any of these LGA 1700 motherboards you'll hopefully be able to put an upgrade in the future even like a 13400 or 13 600k something like that down the line but that's only if you good a good motherboard which you got an absolute trash tier trash tier motherboard so this is the ASRock b660 M hdv micro and it's just garbage no vrm heat sinks on this thing yes is it going to work with the i32 andf of course it is it's not going to overheat with that but no room for future upgradeability I don't even care that it's only got two Ram slots that's fine most people don't upgrade by dropping in an identical kit a ram most people will want to go with a different CPU this motherboard absolutely not and look you're getting it for $95 did you know that you can get good b660 motherboards for about the same price let's address this terrible Ram kit so I I've seen a number of budget builds fall for this where they're like oh it's DDR 43200 that's all I need right no the cast latency is very very important here cl22 means this is garbage this is silicon is garbage silicon they're pushing the frequency way too fast because they know if it's got 3200 on it a lot of people will buy it and they'll just ignore the cl22 part and it's it's trash you should not buy this Ram if you have any questions about why check out our best RAM for gaming 2023 video we go through this in great detail but we can do way better and honestly what did you sa like $3 on this kit probably another thing I absolutely just don't like but I may live with this is a fhang S500 Pro one ter this is a company I've never heard of I can't find any reviews on this drive I looked I just spent about like 20 minutes looking all over the place for reviews on this drive I can't find anything or really any of their other products maybe I'm just missing something here $39 now you say Jason I thought one tab ssds mvme drives were going for about $40 they were but they're going back up in price that has to do with kind of long-term shift they overproduced these chips during the pandemic and kind of the recovery economic recovery period and they're selling through that stock and they've cut production so expect SSD prices to go back up right now one terabyte for an mvme decent Quality Drive is costing more like 47 or $48 the case I like this S2 ATX case it just comes with Molex fans they're not the highest quality this was a good case when the case Market was completely upside down but I wish the pricing would adjust with it really this is like a $40 case now we can find really really good ones for about $52 instead for the power supply this is an absolute no absolute no this is I think this is an F tier rated unit the thermal take smart 600 watt 80 plus garbage PSU basically for $48 or $50 for $50 we can get a c tier or better PSU instead again we're trying to save like four or5 here four or5 there to hit some mythical $450 price point rather than asking ourselves should we be buying a PSU that'll blow up our whole build no we shouldn't so for basically with the ram kit price in there $451 I just this is not a good PC I would not recommend you put it together especially with that PSU and honestly that Ram is going to completely kneecap our performance I just we could can do so much better for about the same price well this the amazing $465 1080p medium to high settings gaming PC because we are going to get good performance at 1080p your friends son is absolutely going to love this he's going to play pretty much all the titles he's looking to play at good quality settings too and in the future it's going to give you an upgrade path so you can drop in a new graphics card here you can upgrade the CPU he can do quite a bit of things down the line I finished at 400 well $466 I just hit refresh it with 465 a second ago now prices right now during the holiday period they do keep changing pretty rapidly so I'm using parts right now I think there where the price is effectively locked in but I will leave some alternative Parts linked down in the video description with all of this let's start off with the GPU I decided let's go with the GTX 1070 TI or 107 8 gigabyte card now you can typically pick these up remember check out our best GPU for gaming video every month that we do where we go through the market report you can usually pick these up for between 90 And1 $5 depending on the the type I do like the EVGA S I just picked this one just so we have something in PC part picker but this is one the EVGA one that you'll often see in there if you can get the 1070 TI for a good price and remember you're looking for one that's just used not Parts not working then this will be a really really good deal for you if not the 1070 is also good the 1070 performs about the same as a GTX 1660 super which while it's a newer card only has six gigs of vram and we would definitely want eight it's a little tricky but I would re still recommend 8 gigs of vram on any GPU you're going to buy right now and I do like this card for the CPU we stuck it out with the I3 12200 half I think $93 is a pretty good price right now I did check in at the ryzen 5500 it looks like the shipping time on that a couple weeks out given that the roughly the same price so let's go with the i31 1200f comes with included stock coolers absolutely enough absolutely enough for this CPU and remember we we will be able to with a decent LGA 1700 motherboard to upgrade this in the future just something like a 13400 F or 13600 K probably 13600 k a little bit better speaking of that decent motherboard let's go with an 89 actually $5 cheaper than the crappy motherboard you were going to buy also from ASRock I don't understand why the pricing is that much off ASRock b660 M Pro RS this is the one we have continuously recommended and when they initially came out the the 12400 f for instance and higher core count CPUs like the I5 CPUs wouldn't really run properly on this they have fixed that through bios updates which I was kind of fingering cross a wood I've recently seen this tested by another Outlet seems to be working absolutely fine and the vrms on this are relatively strong and the heat sinks are very very good so honestly it's an entry-level board it's got entry-level audio but it's got pretty good rear panel connectivity this is just a great little motherboard the only thing it doesn't really have is it doesn't have bio flashback so I would not put a 13th or 14th 14th question quot marks I would not put a 13th or 14th gen ship on it I will only put the 12 12 gen chips on them for the ram let's just go with a cheap in fact the currently cheapest ddr4 3200 cl16 and it's running at 1.35 volts you will see some kits from time to time ultra cheap by kind of random vendors that I've never heard of where they're going to run it at higher voltages I don't love that either again means it's crappier silicon that they're running at higher voltages we really want to see 1.35 volts on these XMP timing kits this is a great kit for 16 GB total for the drive I just decided $7 $7 to go with a name brand that's got a decent warranty on it fiveyear warranty that we've used all the time that I feel really comfortable with which is the team group mp33 and vme storage is going to get more expensive probably in 2024 because they've caught back on production they're no longer trying to sell through this huge backlog of chips out there and so they're kind of raising those prices up a little bit but $48 is still insane for one tbte if you consider what we were paying just a couple years ago for the case I went with a bit Phoenix Nova mesh microatx case $57 right now was $52 just a second ago what happened to way they pulled the rug out from money you do get this $5 promotional gift card with purchase I don't typically count that towards anything because you usually have to spend it there at New Egg in order to get it but if you get other parts at new eggs maybe that that'll help you $57.90 for only like four or5 more than the case we were going to get these are real pwm fans they're argb I like them quite a bit we actually did a $1,200 ryzen 7600 and RX 7800 XT build in this and we absolutely love this case I can't say enough about it for the power supply look at this 50 bucks 50 bucks about the same price as you were going to spend we're going to get an actual tested CT rated PSU that is the MSI mag a550 BN now this is their kind of lower tier that most of the MSI psus are more on the a tier but these are their kind of more budget focused lineup $50 though really really hard to beat beat this price so all told for $466 18383 you're going to get an amazing little budget gaming PC that's going to give you great frames at 1080p either medium or high settings in a lot of titles a lot of titles still and this thing will be good for years to come and upgradeable in the future either get another GPU or go ahead and drop in a new CPU upgrade as well so hope you feel like your build is boosted of course I did promise that we'd show you a build that actually uses brand new GPU so if you do want to spend a little bit more about double on your GPU you can pick up something like the powercolor fighter Radeon RX 6600 now this GPU will have insanely more performance than that 1070 it's brand new it comes with a warranty it does inflate the build cost to $571 182 it will also fit in inside this entire power envelope in fact this thing uses so little power so little power that if we had a cheaper option out there I'd go for it but right now that 550 Watt unit is the cheapest on the market for us remember if you got value out of this video give it a like as it makes a huge difference to the channel especially this guy right here and of course subscribe click that Bell icon that way you get notified when we release cool content hey speaking of cool content there's still great CPU deals out there in fact we go through all of them right now should you buy now or should you wait right here check it out and we'll catch you on the next one
