buying a truck used to be simple you had a couple of different manufacturers a couple different trim levels and a few options but basically you had an idea of what you were getting these days it can be really confusing and if you're like me it was a really hard choice to make even within the same manufacturer what's the difference between a Z71 a ZR2 what's the price point difference on it how much different difference is there between the different engine options and why are there so many today we're going to be reviewing the 2024 Chevy Silverado 1500 ZR2 but also we're going to be talking about this late model Trail Boss Z71 that ultimately kind of determined me getting this truck let's cover the basics of this trucks for those that are not familiar in order to get the ZR2 package you must have a crew cab short box which is a big difference from the standard box and there's no long box option you don't want the crew cab you don't want the short box you're not getting the ZR2 besides the size of the truck is you get two engine options this 3 l Duramax or the 62 V8 but also there's a key suspension difference this comes with propri GM dual spool technology that's the multimatic dssv suspension which makes a huge difference both onroad and off-road not only do you have a completely different Grill design you also get specialized lights here and the fog lights go up and down instead of sideways on the other models this is something specific just of the ZR2 because of the bumper design and the grill I want to talk about this flow tie some more not only does it just look Hollow but it actually is hollow to allow for better air flow one thing to keep in mind is this is a 2020 model year truck in the background so if you're noticing that going gosh it doesn't look like the new ones it's not there's been some revisions over the years this is just kind of a comparison because this really was a vehicle that got me looking at Chevys in the first place these 18-in wheels also come with a ZR2 you cannot get them on any other model I really like that these ones have the bronze outlay on it in the machine face they come with a very similar one that's just gloss black uh which Some people prefer Wrangler territory MT Tires they're 33 in but I think 11 1/2 in wide uh so good off-road tire from the factory as well one of the big differences that's specific to the ZR2 is that some of the other trucks have what look like HDMI ports the Dual tip exhaust which people really like well let's face it they do look like HDMI ports in order to make sure that this has better clearance and departure angle they've actually tucked the exhaust up so it's completely hidden you have a couple different tailgate options aside from the standard one you get the power lift gate and you also get this multilex tailgate which I prefer because not only does this top come down which allows you for some sliding some wood for because it is a shorter bed uh allows you to have that in there without a problem but also when you come down here you lift this up and allows things to have more room without going completely out the back when this comes down allows me to step up a lot easier cuz even a guy like my height needs help every now and again if you want additional support for getting up you have a nice handle that comes out here and locks into place goes down easily you also to protect the bed get a spray and bed liner that has a cool ZR2 logo right on the front of it you get LED lighting which is awesome and works with the cameras in the back so when you do truck bed View at night it turns those on so you can make sure your things are in place and you also also have a power outlet in casee you need it despite this being a short box I can fit back here pretty easily and because of the truck bed actually having this extension with that thing that pops up it really does allow you to haul bigger things I've hauled mattresses as well that definitely didn't fit in just here but because the additional thing that won't allow it to slide down I only had to put tight down straps to keep it down on the bottom of the floor without worrying about it sliding out the back the mod list so far is pretty short I haven't done much to it for a couple of reasons one I don't think it needs much and too there's not a ton of options really to do to it aside from some aesthetic and some creature Comfort things I've tinted the windows to make it so that it's darker I've kind of sensitive eyes if you notice I have my sunglasses a lot in these shots they can give me migraine so that was the thing to help me out plus it looks nice to help myself and the family get in I have some AMP Research power steps which I really like because they tuck up nice and neat when the door is closed open it they open they shut uh I don't do a ton of aggressive off-roading I'm not worried about damaging those so that's a really cool thing I've done a little stubby in antenna because I don't like the huge whip antennas I don't want to get it caught up on stuff and plus I don't know why they still have those in 2024 there's better designs out there I'm not sponsored by anyone so the name drops is simply to give you an idea of what I have in case you're looking for some modifications to do yourself this is a backflip mx4 tunnel cover I really like it because it works with my multilex tailgate without any sort of interference so it can easily just flip that up and then close this back but what I also like about it is this as I fold it all the way back that when it's in this position it doesn't block my rear view mirror and I need that so that I can see out the back all the time I've never had an issue except for when I was hauling a dresser that covered that but that's going to happen sometimes when this is fully up here these come into place and these slide down to make sure that this stays right against the truck bed and doesn't move it also has some d-shaped cushions to go against the cab to make sure you don't scratch or Dent your cab which is really nice and then all you do to get it to go down is put that in place this comes out locks right there and it comes down this position you also have some straps here if you wanted to keep it just open this far they allow it to secure just like that so it's not going anywhere and opening up so you get a lot of Versatility from this and it doesn't take up that much of the truck bed space when you have it all the way up so you're not missing a bunch of room by having this like I've seen with some other tunnel covers if you get this something to keep in mind cuz the installer on this didn't put them in the right spot and I have them on order I'm not sure when they're going to be here I don't use it that much right now so I don't really care but there's supposed to be some d-shaped pads right here so that when you fold this up you can see where the metal on this is going to end up contacting the cab of the truck because it doesn't have the proper rubber pads right here it wasn't installed correctly they put them in the wrong spot mine are on order and when they get here I'll wait for the weather to warm up a little bit so I know they're going to adhere properly but in the meantime I've been using some terry cloth towels to make sure I don't scratch the paint this is a 2025 Factory Trail Boss that comes with a 6-in lift BDS style 6.2 Z71 nothing better I'm just kidding this is a 2020 and just so we're clear it has a 6-in lift in 35in tires on 20-in Wheels so if you're noticing that difference I know this isn't Factory it's simply my friend's truck with the Z71 we're going to talk about what comes with the Z71 and what might make a difference between you when you're looking to purchase the Z71 is a package option meaning you can get that across multiple different trim levels and models it's not something specific to the Silverado or even the Trail Boss there are some models that you'll see within Chevy that they is a Z71 like a Tahoe per se but most of the time it is a package option that comes with some different goodies the ZR2 is a trim package so it's not an additional option you couldn't get an rst ZR2 or a Trail Boss ZR2 it is ZR2 that is a trim level in itself and it's not an additional package option let's take a deeper dive into this because it goes beyond just Z71 cuz you also have Trail Boss and ZR2 the trail boss is a trim level as as well so the Z71 is some light off-road package you can get the Trail Boss takes it to the next step and the ZR2 was kind of the step even further than that this can get so confusing between what comes with what I have my phone out on Chevy's website to make sure that I don't mess it up for you guys reading off of all features included with a Z71 off-road and protection package Z71 off-road suspension with Rancho Twin Tube shocks I guess if it's the '90s that's pretty cool hill descent control skid plates the Z71 comes with all- weather floor line liners that have the Z71 logo you also get rear wheelhouse liners which may not be available on some of the older models and you also get a heavyduty air filter which is just a thicker air filter guys you can get that from anywhere you also get the two-speed autot trck transfer case which is important because it gives you auto mode two high four high and four low if you end up getting a lift like my friend has done here BDS even says on their website with this particular lift do not put it into auto mode auto mode with this lift and the size tire difference can actually damage your trans transfer case if you get the Trail Boss you get a 2-in factory lift red tow hooks up front and an electronic locking rear differential now there's a custom Trail Boss and an LT Trail Boss the differences between those makes a big difference on what you get in the interior Creature Comforts the custom being lower and starting out with cloth and the LT giving you a leather option and other goodies that you can get on the inside the ZR2 is a Trail Boss taken to the next level what I mean it includes everything we've already discussed but along with an electronic locking rear differential you also get an electronic locking front differential plus you can manually engage them which you cannot do on the trail boss that's huge for off-roading aside from that we get away from the Rancho Shocks and we get the multimatic dssv shocks which are great off-road and onroad because they dampen everything so good should I get a 3 l or should I get the 62 why would I want to choose one over the other Pros cons benefits there's so many things to go over but before we talk about that let's go over what the 62 offers the 6.2 L V8 that comes in this comes with 420 horsepower and 4 160 ftlb of torque but that torque comes on much later at 4,100 RPMs compared to the 2700 on that diesel the 62 is an awesome engine one of the things that really I like about the 62 is it sounds great Chevy V8s are amazing legendary Motors and this one is no exception but that doesn't mean it doesn't have drawbacks one of the drawbacks with the 6.2 is some of you may have read online that there's issues with the lifters that these engines fail and have issues and that's partially true but that's mostly due to the multi-displacement or what it has for cylinder shut off in the active fuel management this pullar unit allows you to mitigate that completely my friend got this put on at 500 miles and I'm sure there's other brands out there that can do this not only does it deactivate the cylinder deactivation but it also can turn off the auto start stop which is something you have to do every single time otherwise and it has the added benefit of resizing for your tires to make sure that your speedometer is correct why in the world wouldn't I choose the 6.2 why did I go with the three L diesel they have the same transmission I can get it in this and the price difference is only about $2,000 which let's be honest isn't much on your monthly payment so let's talk about why I did choose a 3 l over the 62 and why you might actually want to choose the 62 Instead This has 305 horsepower and 495 ftlb of torque available at about 2700 RPMs which means that although this is down on horsepower having about 73% of the horsepower that the 6.2 has it actually has more torque and available earlier on now in 2023 they introduced this lz0 which is a little bit different than the older lm2 3 l diesel what this is done is redesigned the engine for better fuel economy better output and also longevity they recognized that there was room for improvement on the lm2 model that allows us to have a longer service period and service interval especially for the timing belt that's in the back of this which is something that's now said that it's good for up to 200,000 Mi I drive this all the time I have a little over 4500 m on it it and I've only had it since about Thanksgiving time and it is truly a dirty Mac to this point there's some fun puddles I like to go through while I really like how quiet this is and it's great for cruising one of the things that I wish that it had was some of that particular diesel wine from the turbos you get as it spools up they put a lot of things in here to silence that and there's some things that you can get afterm Market to help make that a little bit louder and it's something that I'd like to do and I've also heard that it can increase power a little bit and fuel economy a little bit but if we're being honest I'm only getting it cuz I think it sounds cool there should be tons of options and tunings available for this to allow it to wake up because even though it has a good amount of power and torque I know that there's a potential from we in here this is an inline six a naturally balanced engine and it's kind of like a baby comments I know it's not before you guys attack me but think about it inline six turbo but there's not any options and in fact the last thing I heard from Banks specifically one of the foremost industry leaders for diesel power has said that they put a tune on this on hold indefinitely the biggest difference for me was the fuel economy the 62 is great and all and I love the way that it sounds and because it has higher horsepower it does give you a lot more zip when you go down the road despite having less torque but the fuel economy is a joke on the 62 nobody gets a 62 going man I'm going to get that great fuel economy especially when the cylinder deactivation can kill the motor so taking it off negates any potential upswing of the fuel economy on that whereas the 3 l diesel here gets awesome fuel economy both in town and on the highway taking a look at my friends here he's getting 10.2 MP gallon average whereas I'm averaging 16.6 according to to what our in truck computers are showing but if I look at my phone here I have a cool app that tracks it for me and I've been tracking it really well on here I actually got this from another YouTuber where it says here my average mile per gallon is 16.8 with my last tank being 17.1 and my best being 17.3 and keep in mind 95% of my driving is in town if he has the same amount of driving in town and I'm pretty sure he does if I know where he's going you're talking about an substantial increase in your fuel economy so not only am I saving money on the engine that also diesel isn't almost double what regular fuel is so yes I pay a little bit more for fuel but I'm able to go a lot farther on my fuel which makes this cheaper to drive fuel economy isn't for everybody and some people may not care about the fuel economy you can get on the diesel versus the 6.2 depending on your configurations the 6.2 may actually be able to tow more and I can honestly tell you the diesel here while it does get up and go it doesn't do it amazingly it doesn't have the same kind of push back that you get in the V8 but it also doesn't sound nearly as good and it's not nearly as exciting so it's kind of a boring dull engine which I've said in other videos I think is why I get such a good fuel economy cuz I press it down it's not very fun it's not cool it's not that excitement that you can get from the 6.2 how long do I think one's going to last over the other right now I think that's too early to tell I think the 6.2 has been around for a long time it's been used in many different things and it's been been a proven engine over many years the one minor thing being that cylinder deactivation can easily be turned off the 3 l diesel though does come with GM saying hey at 200,000 M we'll need to check that time B otherwise you're good to go and diesels are notorious for being longer lasting Motors than your standard gasoline engine so while it's too early to tell I really do feel that the 3 l is the more mechanically sound engine and Chevy's putting in everything now I live in my glove Bo and I actually found the original window sticker from when I bought it so I'm going to go over what the base model is on this what I have equipped on it and the overall MSRP and then I'll let you know what I bought it for as you can see here it tells you a little bit about my truck 3 l turbo 10-speed standard vehicle price $699 so it's called 70,000 I have the technology package which comes with the heads up display and the review camera uh I have the power sunroof the multilex tailgate some additional options there um total options 3,400 60 uh vehicle destination total vehicle price 75 355 that's before taxes title document fees uh any of that jazz so you can see what I should have paid starting out with however I didn't pay anywhere near that not even after taxes title document and all that other jazz in fact when I got there they had just put this on the lot there's a gentleman driving and I waited for him to get done and say you know what if that other guy doesn't want it I'll come back for it but I did want it in fact I grabbed it right away I got this for $67,000 before everything else which means I got this at a deal and in fact when building a modern Trail Boss it MSRP is about 67,000 so I got the ZR2 for Cher boss pricing which is one of the big reasons why I went with the ZR2 because the price on it was just too good to pass [Applause] up [Applause] we've tested out the 3 l and what it sounds like let's check out the 62 keep in mind though this 6.2 does have an exhaust so this is not what it's going to sound like stock [Music] [Music] having just driven these quickly around the parking lot you can feel the torque on this so much different than how the power delivery is on the 3 l like this just goes and you feel that punch back that's a va8 as opposed to the inline six which is a linear band and it definitely gets up and moves even the guy who owns this truck says wow yours feels much tighter you don't get that downshift lug that you get with the va8 um this this is still super exciting and fun to drive which again may be a difference for somebody on how it feels on what they prefer whether it's the 3 l or the 6.2 I really liked how your truck felt and the newer upgrades on this is what kind of drove me towards Chevy but this engine in particular for me is what's best but you have the 62 and you deliberately went after the 62 there's no other engine for you is that right you got to remember too when I bought my truck in 2020 uh I had the options of the 53 or the 2.7 I purchased this truck right before the vid hit right so trucks were really cheap are cheaper than they are now uh but availability really sucked like I tried for almost two months to get a truck my only options were I'd pay $50,000 for a truck and I'd be stuck with a 53 or 27 I don't want to be that way I wanted the top tier I wanted the most power possible that way if I ever need a downgrade I can but I can never I don't want to pay to upgrade a 53 in 2020 very hard to get the 10 speed right A lot of them came with the eight speeds so I found a 10 speed 62 I was like I'm on I know I go back and forth I like yours I like mine but yeah the day I mean I like the sound of mine but I like the practical of the diesel I think if anything I'd probably step up and go to 2500 66 Duramax if I was going to pay for the Duramax okay I mean that's just CU I like the power I like the V8 of this but if I want to go up I would go Duramax I definitely would not get a um the 66 gas that they have in the 25s 35s no way power deliver is another big one I talked about that a little bit the power delivery on mine on paper has more torque compared to yours but yours feels a lot more Punchy because of the horsepower difference correct and that's also you know when you drove it you're doing with the Pulsar too so it's kind of like a a pedal commander in one that's right so I I'm getting rid of that uh delay that these have because you know they're electronic yeah they're nonline correct so I'm eliminating that DeLay So you're feeling a little bit of that too that instant it's not more power it's just a faster faster connection to the accelerator when I say linear a linear curve would be like this that as I put the Power into it the pedal down it increases it on a linear one for one curve but it doesn't do it in fact it's kind of a curve like this to where the first bit of pedal travel really isn't that much of a difference until you get on it uh pedal commanders pulsars uh other things like that you can plug in will actually make it more linear or more responsive earlier on um and take away some of the computer control of that are alter how it perceives the throttle input so um that's what he's talking about and you did feel that and this immediately throwback where is this you really have to get on it to feel that so it' be interested to see uh what this feels like with that as well knowing now you have a 3 l let's say it's today right now you're looking you want to get a newer truck you want to get the upgraded interior so you can step out of the 80s um that your truck interior has um well I mean the newer I mean the newer models have the upgraded interior sure mine's the 20s so let's talk about before we talk about engines M you have a trail boss I have a ZR2 would you choose a trail boss or a zer2 right now today yes if I was staying in the 1500s yes the half trucks yes uh I don't know I really comes down to price point but they're about the same probably now is probably a Z2 if I could get the 6'2 yeah I'm just not a believer in the 3 l yet so I mean there's a lot of them but the problem is I have with the I'd hate to spend the money on this and then have to get rid of all the suspension components that you're paying for because ideally I actually want to go about two inches taller on this and run 37s a lot of people are like why would you run 37s why not I like The Stance of the 35s and the way it looks now I just wish I had about an inch uh a little bit inch about an inch of height that is something that I would say on this that a loveling kid on this would make a world of difference I'd love to fit 30 5 on this I'm waiting to see what aftermarket goodies come out this is still very much under warranty so I'm not in a huge hurry to modify anything the tires and everything are great so again not in a huge hurry to run out there but when I get to that you know 40 50,000 mile Mark I might look at that more seriously and hopefully more options will be available then well that's you just said options too there's a lot more options for the suspension on these you know I originally bought it there wasn't a lot you could do because of the 2-in factory lift the Troll Boss you'd have to actually take everything out if you want to go any bigger than 4 in now I think you can go six on top of the two to get eight but this is actually Four on top of the 2in original cell the BDS 4 in with the 2in factory tril boss lip the tril boss Trail bosses are about 67,000 uh the z2s are still mid to high 7s uh depending where it's out so I'm not sure how I got the great deal everyone asked how'd you get that deal I don't know I guess right place right time right salesman eager to sell it because you can't get them that price now they're they're a lot more expensive it's a daily driver I mean it's got fake bead loocks but I mean come on but I mean this thing toes my my J my trailers it goes camping it goes up to the the mountains it's my daily driver it does everything I mean it's kind of just to me it's utilitarian sure what I need is there anything that would make you choose a 3 l diesel over the 62 now cuz I'm just you know I'm stuck in my ways I I've own lb 7s 66 dur Maxes in the past I just if I feel like if I'm going diesel I want that yeah I want that power I want that size want the expandability I don't like being limited by a liter size the 400 horsepower but 1,200 ft-lbs of somehow he also has a standard bed compared to a short box it could be gearing there could be a lot of things that impact that um but my truck also I got the 3 l because it can tow what I need and then some um the payload on it is pretty good like I'm not unhappy with my truck at all the deciding factor you got to remember two is I I love the standard bed size on my truck yeah so I know it's kind of weird but if I hadn't that might deter me away from the ZR2 if I cannot get a bed size that this one has you can I don't like it stock because looks like a grandpa truck when it's sled down when they're lifted a little bit I like the uh expandability I like the the use and I can put a lot in there do I need to probably not but I like it so yeah well that's just it so there's a preference there and I said that earlier on if you want a crew cab short box the ZR2 is an option if either the crew SI the crew cab or the truck bet size doesn't work for you the ZR2 simply is not an option we have different mindsets on what we want to do he's stuck in his ways loves 62 wants to have the V8 I love the way that sounds but I also understood longevity wise and fuel economy played a big factor that I wanted a truck that got really good fuel economy simply because it was an option if it wasn't an option I wouldn't have cared probably would have gotten the 62 uh but because it was an option and this is a great motor from everything I've seen so far I have faith that this is going to last me and be an awesome motor all throughout the lifetime truck close to 4600 M right now and so we'll talk a little bit more about over the months of ownership that I've had it what do I like about it what do I not like about it um you guys hopefully can see my gauges now so you'll see see what I'm getting for fuel economy driving around here in the city just so you guys know I have it in normal I don't have it in sport mode um there has been evidence that shows that in sport mode it actually gets better fuel economy one thing that we didn't talk about when comparing the 3 lit to the 6.2 diesels are unique and how you care and how you maintain them that you don't have that with a standard gasoline the fuel filter on this has to be changed far more regularly some of you have probably never changed the fuel filter in your life or ever had to have it changed because gasoline doesn't have uh the same level of potential contaminants that Diesel doesn't just the way that it's made the DPF the diesel protate filter is something that can go bad on these and can clog um and that's why you have the diesel exhaust fluid the def that you have to fill up in these over time so I mean there's there's some things that when you get a diesel it's not just oh get diesel and put it in you do have to pay a little bit more attention to them but the trade-off is you get really good longevity typically of these engines all right John I'm ask you some questions okay from Phoenix Lynch $695 what extras came with your truck at this price uh it's a good question um I know that I went over the window sticker a little earlier uh but I'll tell you the extras that I wanted to make sure that I have on top of that um the rearview camera it was extremely important for me to get because trucks are notoriously difficult to see out without it um and this is just so clear it's so bright it's amazing at night too cuz it dims the camera and everything so i' I've not had an issue once we're looking at that's been too bright at dark it's also much more clear on road trips um I have not had to worry about not being able to see through my back passengers or most things that I've hauled has not been an issue it actually provides really good Clarity on that so that was a must and that's part of the technology package so with that I also got the HUD here which hopefully you guys can see uh the HUD is a neat tool that I didn't really care for at first when I got it but now I can't go without it very easily I love it because this happens to show what speed it is which I know where I'm typically at what speed I should be traveling but when I travel I don't always um shows your speed without having to take your eyes off the road uh shows my Lane keeping assist in case I'm starting to wander it also tells me if my vehicle distance is too far there's a lot it can do if I hit the info button here uh you can see how far of a distance it calculates I'm at 1.7 seconds from the car in front of me uh which if you guys remember from driver Z I think it used to be 3 seconds depending on your speed um so that just kind of helps give you an idea of how much reaction time you have shows your navigation and when you put in navigation it'll give you turn by turn up on your Hut instead of having to look here or anywhere else so really love the Hut about that ton of things I can do I'm just kind of cycling through so you guys can see the technology package also came with the power uh steering wheel uh for adjusting it which is nice the sunroof was an option that I really wanted to have just because I like having it so it doesn't feel as closed in it's a nice thing to have what else the multilex tailgate was super important I wanted to make sure I had that I I just talked to the you guys about the versatility of it and why I think that's really great and everyone who has seen it has said how they wish they would have had that or why that would have been a cool feature to have next one at life of Barney music can you comment on how it feels with respect to where you're ar your left armrest through the window and the center console armrest in general as a driver being able to be comfortable in the driver's seat yeah um and I mentioned this a little bit when I talked about the interior I reference this question slightly but you can see I'm driving here my arm is perfectly fine on the armrest here um and the driver side armrest uh sometimes I drive with it up here I haven't noticed any indentation some people on older models talked about how there was indentations here left from their elbow I don't know if they're just pressing really hard or or what overall Comfort though this is one of the most comfortable Vehicles I've ever driven um I've had a Mercedes S-Class which was Comfort on a different level that's everything about that and the seating position on that was also very comfortable um that had massaging seats and you know just everything it's a Mercedes S-Class this is the second most comfortable vehicle I've ever driven um behind the S-Class and it's a close second um I don't feel stiff or sore after a long drives in this um the only thing is my knees a little bit tired and that's just because I have bad knees to begin with um so this seating position sometimes gets a little bit annoying but the adaptive cruise control and another thing I left out the technology package allows me to on longer trips set the adapter cruise control so I can take my foot completely off and not have to worry about running into anyone it'll slow down and change that for me which is really nice so it gives me a chance to rest my legs so there's a way to mitigate that too so overall Comfort I find excuses to drive this the kids asked me this morning when are we ever going to drive the Durango again it's like well this is really comfortable I like driving it um so I find ways to drive this so I can just get it cuz it is a nice comfortable ride Tony Wht how's the tire noise on the high Highway thinking about trading in my 2022 LTZ 6.2 so you and I talked about this when comparing your engine sound to my engine sound this is a very quiet engine overall just where it likes to hang out in the RPM range is very low um there's no exhaust on here everything's stock so everything's the stock quietness of it you do hear the tire noise tire noise more you're going to um these are the Wranglers right yeah these are the Goodyear Wrangler territory MTS um so they are not a super aggressive Mt um they're not like some of the Toyo MTS or like your nidos um that are much more open design I love the dur TRS um I think the dur tracks are a great design that's overall quiet I'm not a huge fan of the Nitto design um and a lot of the nitos I just I look at how quickly they wear also um that's a completely different topic but I haven't driven yours much to notice the road noise compared to this you also have a lot less tread um you put a lot more miles on them it's not overwhelming it's not overwhelming and it's not like you can't have a conversation with the person next to you from Chris marur 9678 you said it was right but you prefer the looks of the GMC I'm curious what changed your mind yeah so the biggest thing uh when looking at them is I liked the GMC in my opinion I love this truck but I still think that the GMC has a more um I don't know if aggressive is the right word I just prefer the front end of the GMC the way the headlights and the grill look is like a beefy bold yet Sleek design I just really like the look of the front end compared um to this I think it's a classier look as well the ZR2 has a different look because it's completely different bumper but the reason why I went with this is overall value um I mentioned when I was shopping at the time I wanted the at4 I was okay with the at4 price point um which was the same price as this but I do look for the best value possible so when I see this that has so many more features so much more to it than what the at4 has at the same exact price this is the vehicle to get um also potential resale value h4s are everywhere because there's more of them in the market they can they can't demand the same value on resale that these can um so the value proposition in it and then also when we went to go test all the kids in it the dealer happened to have this and I hadn't thought about it because this was the first year they offered the diesel in it um and feeling the multimatic for the first time was a complete change on how the truck felt the other ones felt like a truck you know they were a little bit bouncy the ride was a little bit harsh it's what you expect from a truck it wasn't a complaint but this was different you didn't feel that it was much more comfortable um on and off the road there it absorbs the bumps differently so even my wife is like wow this is so much more of a comfortable ride it's not like the truck we drove last time um so that's what Drew my attention to that as as well but I chose this because way better handling much more comfortable ride and at the time this was the same price as the at4 Tom ds8 XV I've been looking at the tundra did you like it so we did the video on the tundra so what are you thinking now you've owned this you've done the review where would you go uh I like the tundra a lot uh I like the SE design of the tundra I mean subtle little things it's a Toyota it's great uh I love that one thing that I love about this though is I don't have Micro transactions to use the navigation and it's a that's a silly little thing but as large as ton as uh Toyota is excuse me why do they need to do that why do they have that need why couldn't they just do over the updates to keep the maps up to date or we're all used to getting an older car maybe the maps aren't the most current but for most destinations you can probably get there pretty okay and because it has Apple carplay and Android auto you can still use that as another option so uh I wasn't a huge fan of that overall the tundra is great I like how this looked from the factory over the tundra even the TRD Pro uh a friend of mine who actually has that truck is installing his lift on the tundra now um so maybe we can do kind of an updated with the lift and uh bigger tires how does that look but from the factory options this to me is a better looking truck than the tundra is but I like the tundra it was very comfortable um it was quiet no complaints about the Tundra at all and the tundra was about the same price as this if I was looking to get in the market for on um but I also like the diesel on this and the fuel economy this is going to get better fuel economy uh than the tundra from what we've seen and what at JB 7675 truck looks too small we not just get a 2500 Duramax so I've heard that a lot and on some of the videos people are like why are you so massive why does a vehicle look so small some of that's camera angle um unintentionally but also some of it is just the fact that uh it's a 1500 truck it's going to be small small it could also be the fact that the short box on it makes it look smaller I know your Trail BS looks substantially larger um because it's a standard box instead of the shorter box but also the lift and tires make it look a little bit bigger to answer the question more specifically why not the 2500 it's $20,000 more um it's a huge part of that uh also the 6.6 durama Max which is the one I would get I would not get the 66 gas not there's anything wrong with it um other YouTube Channel have talked about them and how they think the gas is great that's fine um but I if I was going to get a 2500 be a diesel and if it was going to be 2500 it would be a Cummins diesel if I was going to go that route for the price point I would go back to dodge um cuz those are just legendary engines um but the bottom line is the cost Point didn't match it I like the way the HDs look but I don't like them $22,000 more and I don't have the towing need for it that was the other thing this can tow quite a bit so I don't have the need and I don't want to spend the money on something that exceeds what I need all the time 4600 miles mhm do you regret buying this truck uh looking at vehicle f price point I still think that this is a great truck uh overall right now we've driven around we've gone about 12 miles I know that's you know pretty much nothing uh but it's sitting steady at 25.7 m per gallon and I haven't been driving this any different to get that I've been driving this fairly normal um we got to freeway speeds here I think it said that we're doing a little over 70 so this is realistically my driving on this and some of you guys may drive differently to get better fuel economy or you could drive worse and get worse fuel economy but I'm driving a half tonon pickup um Street driving a little bit of freeway there um and I'm getting over 25 M per gallon and that's awesome it's been going up as I've been driving it as it gets broken in as the programming does whatever it's going to do and figures it all out um I've been getting better and better fuel economy which is really great uh mentioned in the other video I'll quickly recover it here from me I look at how much more is diesel than gasoline on average and is it greater than or equal to what I pay or what I get for the fuel economy there's there's some differences there but overall I get far better gas mileage that's not even a question um and the fact that diesel yeah yours does sound very nice um the fact that diesel for us here that we see um is roughly 20 25% more than gasoline but I'm getting better than 20 to 25% more fuel economy it's it's a no-brain that's where you make up and you're going to save money even with the other things even with diesel exhaust mod and things like that in mind I still feel like I made the right choice with this truck I might have gone well again it's hard to say cuz I wanted a GM so or the GMC so if I was going to go with the GMC for the price point I still would have gone with the at4 because it had some of the things that I want to have as far as feeling comfortable traveling over mountain passes with the uh lock and rear differential and things like that I don't want to get stuck in the snow um cuz we do experience out on our drives and so for the price point no I would still go with this I I'm telling you guys I wanted to dodge uh even the Hemi with the E torque couldn't compete fuel economy wise um of this and so that was a huge factor is I want to own this vehicle for a really long time which means I know I'm going to be spending a lot in fuel one way or the other where am I going to spend the least amount in this this truck was it uh by and far but I really do like this uh it does have the integrated trailer brake controller which I like a lot uh I haven't been able to hook up to a trailer that actually had trailer brakes to use it yet but it's nice that that's right there and just kind of built in and it pops up on here to show you um what it's doing so instead of just going here you can actually see on the dash you see just popped up how much output it's giving nice you got paddle shifters back paddle shif we have the same steering wheel yep same steering wheel same M heated and the full locking really helps out and I think that that's where when people said oh this can't compete with a TRX or a raptor again they're kind of designed for different things but I think on the more technical trails and the slower rock crawling and stuff I think this is going to be able to keep up very well because it has a lot of the things that you're going to need with that and the biggest difference is going to come down to tire size um I think as well and then we didn't even talk about the Bison package and the Bison package is an $8,400 is upgrade um that comes with Boron uh heat treated steel which makes it really really durable um I wouldn't say completely indestructible but far better than skid plates that come on this it covers everything even the rear differential um with that but the bumpers on them even though they don't have the cutouts uh like mine do they're like they're closer to the front and rear giving it a better approach in departure angle the wireless charging here charges really well also but when you plug in here it wants to override the apple carplay or the Android auto um which again is completely fine but it does that wirelessly it sys up to my phone and it looks and responds really well um people's complaints about how Spotify sucks on it quit going through your carplay you can have Spotify right here uh and you can use it and it works works really well it's very responsive and I learned from you and how you've done it just telling Google what to do just saying hey you know and I'm not going to do it I want to activate it um and I can tell what song I want to play makes it really nice too so you're not having to fiddle with that use that button too right there uh I like that little storage compartment keep the registration right there instead of the junk box um but yeah everything on this has been really good so far I haven't gotten to use the sunroof yet we haven't warm weather or the rear uh glass the SL I really like that too and that was something I wanted to have also uh just make trips more comfortable overall very happy not disappointed I got this truck compared to other things I was looking at um it's interesting the fuel economy now in town has gone up to 26.6 I mean I don't you can't be mad at that and I've been driving regularly so if you have any questions let me know in the comment section um I pay attention to those I try to respond um as quickly as I can with that uh there let me know if there's anything else I left out as well if there's anything that you guys would have liked to have seen on this um otherwise we'll see you guys in the next one
