good afternoon everybody Joe from NDB Aviation and today we're going to take some time and dive into X-Plane 12. now this video is going to be a little bit longer than my others because we're going to go through a few things here and we're going to talk about why I still recommend X-Plane X-Plane 12 is new you can still use X-Plane 12 as well and if you still run at X-Plane 10 it shows how long I've been around the circuit I wish I had older t-shirts but uh if you're still going to explain 10 it's still a great device Grace's system to run for training purposes because some of the older flight ftds are still to be using that however if you've upgraded X-Plane 11 you have something newer better visuals some other nice pieces that make the system work a little bit nicer and then X-Plane 12 brings in a whole Bevy of improvements or a whole lot of improvements it's quite a bit and however there are still some bugs to work out some minor Kinks here and there but this video is really going to dive in we're going to talk about explain 12. now how I'm going to work this through or in the intro now but following the intro we're going to talk about some first set of points things that I like to do to make X-Plane work a little bit better for me and then if I'm going to use it with some other devices after that we're going to go into a flight and then in Flight we're going to change a few things around so I'm going to show a few of the sliders some of the terminals that you can use to change things while we're flying around and after the end of the flight we'll do some exit thoughts the flight itself is going to start off as a VFR flight we're going to transition to Marginal VFR then actual IFR it'll probably be around like a non-precision approach setting so ceilings around 600 to 1200 feet visibility from two to three miles visibility that way you can see what the clouds look like when you're in them out of them and some of the issues that we are seeing right now with the visuals of X-Plane 12. after that after we land I might take off again and show a few of the issues that I or a few things that I really like about X-Plane 12 and why I choose it mainly because I can I know what to expect with it I don't get a whole lot of crazy Jitters or bounces or like with Microsoft flights from 2020 one of the things that I struggle with sometimes is input of trim it seems to run away a little bit and then catch up and just the overall effectiveness of controls in Microsoft politics in 2020 versus X-Men 12. I know what to expect Now setting this up a little bit further let's talk about devices I'm using currently with X-Plane 12 to do this video I have a honeycomb Bravo throttle quadrant I also have a brand new honeycomb Alpha xpc yoke right here in front of me thank you very much honeycomb for sending this to me for review the review is coming very shortly for everybody that's interested in it my thoughts on the honeycomb Alpha xpc that's what I'll be using since it has the most precise sensor for the actual yoke itself compared to my the older Alpha and and especially compared to my old scitec Cessna yolk this is a bit more precise than all of those it's going to be the best one to really feel out the simulator on the floor though I'm still using my old scitec Cessna Rudder pedals and this is working with my old desktop it's a 5900x CPU 32 gigabytes of ddr4 RAM running at 32 megahertz and GPU is a 1080 GTX uh well that's my main one currently I'm borrowing a 3060 TI as I refurbish and test out some issues with my 1080 GTX but the 36 DTI is slightly better than that older 1080 GTX and it works pretty nicely X-Plane is on a SATA based SSD not my nvme I've run out of space on my nvme SSD on my that's on my motherboard so we're using this with an SSD via Sata cable so it's not as fast loading but it still is faster than a regular hard disk drive platter with that all being said let's go from me here I'm going to be up in one of the corners of the video and we're going to go to a full screen of the Sim now or hopefully now so in the Sim now here we are we have basic menus when you first jump in you can resume your flight make a new flight you can pick from all your aircraft types you can do your weight and balance in this as well you can change your CG what we'll be doing is assess the Skyhawk G1000 Weight and Balance right in here we can change where the CG is going to fall within reason to a certain extent so play with your sliders here as you like do know that some of the aircraft do have a few issues depending on how you load them they do end up being tail heavy which can be a problem uh from there you can change your styles of aircraft or for your deliveries libraries what do you want to say um to me I like the older style it reminds me of the aircraft that I flew most for my training and the time I spent in Skyhawks back to the main menu or back to the menu here we continue to search through there you have a bevy of aircraft here or a nice catalog you have helicopters helicopters are modeled pretty well and then we have this detol aircraft I haven't tried out much on the right hand side you can see our search bar we're going to be flying out of a airport that I did some flight flight training for students out of off of a contract years ago it's Camilla Georgia kcxu there's not a whole lot around there the nice thing about that is it's going to show some of the downsides of the scenery for X-Plane 12 but it'll show that X-Plane 12 is doing a better job of modeling the airport itself and giving you a nice airport to look at and work with as you get in here as you can see I've been already playing around with this a bit but we're going to start we'll go to the weather the nice thing I do like about X-Plane 12 here is when you get into the weather setup to me this is a little bit more Visual and easy to use use your sliders workout nicely you can change your wind levels everything is panned out I have noticed with the current version of X-Plane 12 the non-beta version sometimes when I play with the weather settings they don't carry over into the Sim itself when I start up the Sim so I end up doing some sliding around in the Sim and we're going to cover that in the flight itself but right now we are working with our first setup points as we get in here we can change our visibility precipitation airport temperatures it's going to be a big one for today so we're going to start off with a little bit cooler well 270 it's gonna be 2992 uh Runway we're gonna go with light so you can see what it looks like wind we're gonna keep very simple and we're going to start off with a very nice easy day now visibility we can come up the cloud layer wind layer but easy right here clear nothing out there we're going to start off with Kavik perfectly clear day now let's go back to the main menu here we can load save flights we can go into a flight school I haven't played around with this at all I don't really care for it myself because I fly for an airline and I really don't want to do any Sim training like this right now I might sit down and have my kids run through it and then I'll just kind of watch them go through it and see how well they they pass and go through it but General a general tab you can change your languages warnings information here data output for net the network data you can do a lot here that works out really nicely if you're using this for training purposes you can show multiple information inside there let's go ahead and put some damage on we're not going to do kiosk mode and we don't need to do anything there sound you can play with your sound sliders here we can change pilot voices I haven't done that yet I don't don't know what they're like graphics this is one of the things that I think X-Plane does reasonably well for setting up your standard graphic settings it's not going to be too great too little but you come in here and what I'd recommend is you play with these sliders set it up the way that you like to then work with your system specs there are going to be some systems that are going to do better than others it just depends on how much money you've put into your system what kind of CPU GPU what kind of hard drive you're running off of if you're running off of an old or not old but if you're running off of a hard disk drive with a spinning platter you're probably going to want to be careful about how you set up things they're going to run off of the hard drive all the time if you're working with an SSD you'd be a SATA cable or even an nvme you're going to be able to load things a lot faster and then from there depending on what your CPU is your GPU ends up being as well you can play with these sliders for visuals and rendering and really maximize your overall look but if you're going for FPS you're probably gonna have to bring things down just a little bit depending on what your specs of your PCR PC is uh one thing that is important to think about your lateral field of view is going to come into play for your overall rendering and how much the PC is going to work to render everything out there underneath there you can do your vsync enable tracker IR we'll make trucks to triple head to go but this is basic for the visuals Network this is something that you're going to want to take the time to jump into I like to put this in uh don't really care for the multiplayer external visuals I'm not doing any of those right now but iPhone iPad and external apps this is something that I like to add on broadcast to all mapping apps on the network so once you've put your PC laptop whatever you're running this on onto your Wi-Fi network you can load up your apps like foreflight FLT plan and other things to run these and use them for purposes of Flight Training flight purposing and you can bring up your charts so if you're using for flight with jeppesen you can do your your chart referencing on the app itself and use them together with X-Plane as long as you have this kind of this button here set up now you can transmit to a single mapping app so if you are the instructor or maybe you're teaching somebody you're not really using this for hire or for compensation but you can transmit to a single mapping app and then let your students sit there or your maybe you're being the safety pilot in the Sim things like that you can use an instructor station uh which is really nice I've done that in the past and it makes things really easy for instructing purposes after that though we can go to data output one thing I do like to enable is frame rate show and cockpit now this doesn't take anything away from your sim it doesn't make a whole lot of work for your computer but this will at least enable you to see what your frame rates are as you change the sliders in Sim to see what digital settings you're most happy with and what you're willing to do a trade-off for of performance versus visuals which one's going to work out the best for you and make you happy in the long run so this is something that I like to enable and make sure I have on at all times to see where things are starting to bottleneck for the Sim and then I can change a slider for visuals but right now even with my GTX 1080 GPU I don't have to do a whole lot of slider changes because even that older GPU does a good job in X-Plane 12. joysticks now here's one thing that I found recently let's go to my Alpha xpc here this is simple calibrations are simple and easy you can see your sliders and you can just assign everything from there but what I want to do is I want to go and let's select my bravo throttle quadrant this might be a little glitch inside x-pine 12 currently but I saved everything under a profile of alpha xpc gen for General and when you come in here you're going to see a couple things that I've done already I've already preset everything I've had to reverse the throttle axes to make them work correctly however the prop axes work so far with the ear cards I've flown as expected and then the mixture does not need to be reversed but sometimes if you get in the Sim you find things aren't right come back into your settings into your profiles and check to see if these are set but if this is your first time loading it up let's go ahead and jump back over to basic user profile and you see this here uncalibrated device this is something that X-Plane has done a better job with since x-plink10 X-Plane 11 now explain 12. and it's simple and easy just click it calibrate the device and we can go through all of our axes and you're going to see on the right hand side as I'm going to the full detent of reverse for each one of the axes it activates the buttons which is really nice about how X-Plane 12 and X-Plane 11 really work of taking you to that assignment and making it easier to do it now all those are now set let's go next let go of your controls line them I'll give you a second to read that if you want uh but as long as you just leave them where they are hit next Let It Go through its little scan setting everything up done finish and now you can see that everything works you can go back through and change these super simply the nice thing about X-Plane is let's go ahead and click on throttle number one oh well see it's speed brick this is set up basically for the professional setup for basically four throttles on top with the speed brake on the far left and the flaps on the far right so if we want to change that just click this mountain you hear so right here on the right hand side drop it down and we have every single thing that we can assign to an axis here I'm going to leave it as the user profile later I'm going to save this under four engine jet or just four engine axes and from there we can go and we can reassign even yacht pitch everything else a basic throttle or we can come in and really really play with this like I really enjoy the fact that I could do Wing sweep here so if we're flying the F-14 and f11 if we're flying a t160 a tupelov 160 Blackjack a b1b Lancer any aircraft that is Wing sweep or something else that might be important like that we can play with that here we can do Collective thrust vectoring we can even do car Pete for aircraft that are carbureted uh we can do artiller we can do tow breaks and then coming down we have a lot of options that we can assign to the axes which is something I really like because this to me is easier than Microsoft flights in 2020 for the purpose of assigning all these assignments out for the axes themselves so I'm going to leave that the way it is now let's jump and let's go to a button and this is where things take a little bit more time now on my bravo there are a couple things that you're going to find that are going to take a little bit of work to assign now there are some user profiles out there when I find some I'll try to link them in the video later or I'll make a video about where to find them but setting up the Bravo and X-Plane is a little bit more difficult than it is in Microsoft like Sim 2020 for the purpose of the autopilot panel it will take some time it will take some getting used to but you can get it set up it just it'll be a little bit longer than Microsoft for one reason I don't know I just haven't taken the time to go in because the catch here is the phraseology that X-Plane and Microsoft for like some 2020 use for certain autopilot functions are not always the same it's just going to take some searching and let's go ahead and just search so I'm on the selector wheel on the far left of the autopilot panel and as you can see these are all different so let's go and I want to go to let's say I'm going to do heading so heading is this one here let's try hdg so coming up MFD and this is one of those things that you have MFD you have co-pilot you have pilot you have GCU and this is one of those things that's going to come down to how do you want to set this up and I'm not going to set this up right now because I'm really not going to go into the woods or into the Weeds on this because we could spend half an hour just on the autopilot panel itself but as you can see here you can search on the top and it'll give you a slew of options you could also just type out heading it'll give you autopilot heading sync copilot bug all these are here and from there on you can kind of get an idea of well if I'm on the flap selector and the flap selector itself you want to set it correctly so flaps you can move cow flaps you can move move cow flaps you can move every other flap it gives you a lot of options so flap up and down flap flaps up a notch flaps retract fully so you have a lot of functionality built into x-plink 12 to really get you what you want especially if you're going to program the Bravo for every single aircraft you fly in here because some aircraft might work differently you might have to tie in a flap system that works slightly different than you thought it should work in X-Plane 12. you can do that all here on the alpha on the Bravo throttle quadrant I hope that's a basic over overall rundown of how to do things if we don't want to assign anything just go back to cancel up here on the top or back out but we're going to use my Alpha xpc profile here for the Alpha and the Bravo it's one overall system in the past though these profiles were separate for some reason I think maybe they just made so you can do an active profile across everything I'm expecting maybe in the future that might change so do watch out for this if you end up making worn profile to cover every device and it stays like that I'm wondering if with X-Plane 12.1 these profiles might separate out so let's continue down keyboard you can do multiple things with your keyboard currently assigned this is a nice thing that they kind of copied off of I think Microsoft likes him 2020 however I don't spend a whole lot of time in the keyboard functionality here I don't bother with it VR Hardware you can set up all your VR here so that's the basic rundown of the menus so let's go ahead and let's do a new flight and so we're going to start now moving into our flight now flight we're going to use the Cessna Skyhawk G1000 let's customize this a little bit let's do a little bit of a little bit of weight and balance 220 pounds and I put on some weight let's put another 200 pound person up there let's put some rear passengers in the back let's say I threw my kids in the back baggage 72 pounds half baggage let's put uh put 10 pounds in there let's let's make the diaper bag go in the backpack which is going to make it completely useless if somebody needs a new flight total fuel oh we're overweight so let's bring that fuel down we'll have more than enough for an IFR Reserve here and let's see center of gravity and tristine so as we move the CG around it starts to move around our sliders here if you can see that for our pilots and baggage I think that's annoying because I'd like to just leave things the way they were so let's move this stuff around let's do that let's redo this all right that's set the way I want it or at least close enough I know that changed a few things but whatever baggage let's go to 30 pounds of baggage that's done we're clear weather as we talked about before that's clear and time of day we're gonna do the local time and let's go ahead and click Start the flight so as we start this flight up we're going to take off out of Camilla we're going to fly around I'm going to demo a few things a few things that I really like about X-Plane versus Microsoft flights from 2020. one of the things that I really do enjoy about X-Plane 12. even X-Plane 11 over Microsoft flights in 2020 oops I got everything off so let's go ahead and get the battery on avionics are off but uh while I'm cranking this up and I really really do like the feature of a spring-loaded starter switch for the alpha xpc oh that's so nice I don't have to do all that work all right we're turning on our alternator and let's go ahead and get our battery buses bus warning bus two on let's go and get our Beacon taxi Landing light nav light and strobe all those are on as you can see it's going to be a morning flight for now you can see our FPS here on the top left and coming up on the top we have file we can do a few things here we can do our flight change a few of our options change our views developer things that we can put out there so we can see if everything's working if we have plugins working we can use turn them off or on right here but currently it's just the main basic Pro plugins working let's close that out on the top over here we can pause we can come up here change a few things in the Sim it shows where we currently are we can change our weather here and the time of day we can change aircraft but that would reload everything we can change our do our radio check here Tallahassee Regional Tower is much further away let's not play with that here's our map and this is one of the best features that you're going to find at X-Plane versus Microsoft flights from 2020. I really enjoy the local map setup that we can use here you can zoom out to only so much 50 nautical mile rate well 50 nautical mile scale so it's kind of like a sectional chart but it works really well and there's something we're going to talk about a little bit later and we can change and place the aircraft wherever we want super easily by dragging and dropping we can put different heading altitude and speed right here this is huge when you're talking about practicing IFR because this versus Microsoft flights in 2020 is where I start to separate out why X-Plane and all its features make it a better training outfit than Microsoft flights from 2020. so let's go ahead and close that out for now and let's close our map Elsewhere on top we have our sliders we can get back into all of our settings this is really important if you're trying to fine tune your setup for a certain amount of FPS frames per second but let's go and close that for now and then if you have questions about something it'll pull up X-Plane it'll give you some basic tutorials that you can run through but we don't need that so hopefully it's still recording the actual Sim so like I said we're going to take off out of Camilla we're going to fly around and then we're going to put up put the aircraft up to about 2 200 feet and play around with it now we can pop up all of our panels here which is really nice because it's not just the screen it is the panel on all of its functions so let's go ahead and set altitude here so let's go 2200 vertical speed will set while we're flying we'll get the flight director up and let's go ahead and sync up the heading bug so just tap on the center of the heading bug here so that'll give us Runway heading 2992 is set and I am not pulling up adises right now we're not going to be checking whether I'm not going to go through the tuning of the frequencies here we're just going to set up everything on the Fly and also we're going to be changing weather as we go so if you also want to pull up the MFD super simple just High just hover over any of these panels and it'll bring the whole panel up boom it's right there in front easy tuning easy setting up there are a few issues there that I've seen recently and let's see what's our warning here low vacuum since we will be flying in the clouds shortly I'm just going to turn on the pedo heat now so I don't have to worry about it and deal with any of the anomalies that's all set let's look at the outside of the aircraft so you can see some visuals the visuals of the runways everything else are really nice I think they work easily and they you know for what it is it's okay um scenery around it could be better the lighting visuals have gotten better however the sun and a few other things need some work so let's go ahead and let's get up in the air before I make this video into a half an hour the nice thing is pfactor works really well let's go ahead and turn the volume down a little bit get back in the cockpit here we're doing a no flaps takeoff we're more than fast enough and what we'll do is I'm going to trim on the xpc here I'm going to Trend the aircraft into a nice easy climb I'm going to hold a little bit of right Rudder for a p Factor and we'll just climb out let's go back out to a visual for external this is the chase view around the airport it's pretty similar to what I'd see in real life they do have seasons built into X-Plane 12 which is really interesting it's nice you can change a few things around with the airport but overall this airport looks legitimately close to what it is in real life it's a crop duster strip in south Georgia some of the scenery around for the city it's okay it's nothing like Microsoft likes in 2020 but at least the roads are usually correct with some basic things around it and there's nothing to write home about for everything else so it's it's very simple there's the sun coming up now let's go ahead and play with the autopilot uh let's go and let's use let's go ahead and hit vertical speed I want to hit heading and let's go autopilot on autopilot's now got the aircraft now we can play around a few other things while it flies around and let's go ahead and change some of these sliders let's go airplane customize the weather and here let's go ahead and change to bfr scattered and see what that looks like apply changes this is where I start to see x-plane's visuals really become stand out you know there are some things they still need to work but visually their lighting system gotten so much better and the way that they do the volumetric clouds and the way that humidity and visibility change especially as the temperature in dew point spread get closer it looks a lot nicer but again the scenery down below is lacking one day I'm sure somebody will come up with a nice setup that'll make that a little bit nicer let's go ahead and turn off our taxi light we're outside the terminal area here let's go and turn off the Landing light and just random buildings that make no sense where they are there's actually a silo and a farm in that area from what I remember if I remember any graduate and that's their ideal Asylum yeah so let's get back in the cockpit and now let's change things up again let's see how's my Rudder set up that's good that's good let's go ahead and go to VFR broken let's not get any precipitation though I don't want any rain right now all right so bfr broken clouds you can see are slightly different visuals aren't bad but let's take it down even further let's go ahead and do marginal VFR overcast let's go ahead and just start with the light rain it's 58 degrees outside let's drop it so we can see some icing effects this is where things get a little iffy uh the way the sun looks out there on the horizon it's just something with the current setup and however I do like the way the rain hits the windscreen and then peels back versus with Microsoft flights from 2020 it seems like somebody's just putting dots on the windscreen or the windshield and it's just rolling like an old video game or an old uh the old driver thing you give kids to drive and it's just on that wheel that keeps turning that's what I think of when I see the rain in Microsoft flights from 2020. so here we are cruising around we're at 2200 feet let's go ahead and let's throttle back let's do an econ Cruise of about 2 300 on the Skyhawk here that should keep it pretty happy I can bring out my yaw that's good but what I really want to do now is let's make it IFR this is going to culminate with a LPD approach and to Albany Georgia sorry kilo alpha bravo Yankee the lpv35 approach let's go down to IFR non-precision that's all the way down to 572 feet and we're looking at good visibility of two a little bit of rain they brought up the temperature I want to get a little bit of ice on the airframe though let's start with that so let's done there apply changes oh look at this man we should get the ice here shortly I'm interested to see what it looks like though water filtered it into snow but I do see we are going through the clouds we should start building our bikes pretty quick there is a little bit of weird shadowing with the clouds and you see you can see the airplane is not happy kind of wandering around let's go ahead and build up our direct 2 let's go direct to Albany by the time I come out of this we should be iced up but let's go and use our spinner here okay a B and as you can see there's kind of weird shaking going on with the uh the maps I don't know why that is I think it's just a glitch with the current run and it's slewing across a map of the world that's behind here out of out of sight I'm assuming that's a problem so there's kbyc Southwest Regional Airport let's activate that oops what we got oh yeah autopilot's already kicked off we are iced over so let's go ahead and pause this and let's change the temperature and let's go up to 78 degrees we should get better control of the aircraft oh yeah look at that that's definitely icing let's get our vertical speed back autopilot on hopefully this will catch back up but what I can't really tell is the visual signs of icing now I could tell that we had gotten icing because the aircraft just did not want to fly she ain't happy not happy at all so we're just gonna have to hand fly this for a second let's re-trim it let's get some power back in first off that was my sign that I did something wrong is I should have remembered to get the power back and let's go ahead and start intercepting our approach back over so let's go ahead and click over to the nav yeah don't like that feature there are a few things I need to set up for the Bravo still here but let's go ahead and do map here [Music] it's really having a tough time there we are at 2200 feet let's see if we can get the autopilot to work we're getting some speed back looks like it should intercept let's go ahead and help it out by there we go GPS is green what we want to do next though is let's pop this back up and let's do a procedure select approach we want to do the rnav35 GPS lpv vectors is going to make it a lot easier so it's just do vectors let's turn on minimums Barrow I think it was 400 feet for the approach and I just want to go ahead and activate it this seems to work a little bit nicer than Microsoft lights in 2020 however I need to double check if the update to the G1000 it Cycles properly because in Microsoft flights of 2020 recently I've noticed that once you load a procedure it drops out the direct 2 that you're working to but it's still tracking it somehow so there are a couple things there that I don't really care for when I'm using the IFR system in Microsoft likes in 2020. what I did do though is the some of the basic buttons on the Bravo do work initially I have pressed the approach mode button if you look here on the screen Glide slope is in we are 9.9 miles from Festus let's go ahead and get this get this bird going no more economy Crews here what we'll do is to make things easier let's demonstrate changing the aircraft position oh look at that nice weather I'm going to zoom in the one thing that I miss was you could show the approach path so in for older versions you could show the ILS and you could show I think even the DOR approaches so we're going to do is we're going to drag and I can see on the GPS right there where we are so I can kind of get them matched up now we are 3.5 from Festus and then we'll start the Glide slope down but we got some nice speed we've got some nice weather looking outside again there's what the rain looks like interesting anomalies with visuals here let's go ahead and change the weather again let's see let's go let's go no rain and um I want to change this from cumulus to Stratus overcast 700 let's try that let's see if that looks any different oh yeah that should be less of a issue for turbulence make it a little bit easier to shoot this and however let's look one thing I want to do double check again is let's look at that weather one more time 550 feet let's do this way we don't end up running ourselves in the ground let's see 1000 feet let's do 1200 feet MSL apply all right here we are we're coming in let's go ahead and get a little bit closer so let's use the math function again and here we go all right GPS lpv is armed the aircraft is going down to catch up with the Glide slope now it's going to catch it let's bring the power back Excuse me while I take a sip of coffee all right we're coming down the Glide slope or the Glide path we should break out here in about 600 feet bring back the sink of a heading bug all right let's pop this up we have our vertical deviation we have our horizontal deviation here flight director looks good speed looks good we're coming down and let's see what the runway looks like out there getting a little bit of intermittent ground contact below you can see the road you can see some of the cars actually have headlights that's interesting tail lights as well they're being dark there's a river I don't know if that's a Flint River or not I can't remember now we're stuck at about two miles visibility there's the airport area coming into view let's go back in the cockpit let's raise the seat height just a little bit by using the arrow keys now out there somewhere is the airport now a few things to talk about as we're finishing up this approach there are some things that I like about X-Plane 12 versus Microsoft Flight Sim 2020. when it comes to the overall flight Dynamics with the flight dynamics of X-Plane I know what I'm getting out of the Skyhawk I know what to expect out of it so I could take back off after we do this approach kill the engine glide back down and it's going to fly like an aircraft that I've flown in real life within reason and slightly better than Microsoft flights in 2020 and the one thing that's a big issue with that comes down to the way Microsoft flights in 2020 enables trim for pitch trim how it interprets you putting that in and how quickly it moves back and forth and then also how ground effect is utilized in Cinder I feel like ground effect and Microsoft flights in 2020 is sometimes a little overdone sometimes it's hard to unstick the aircraft from the uh the runway and other times it's difficult to break back in the ground effect and land the aircraft it just floats forever and ever now here we are we're getting closer and there's the runway got the Pappy out there so run away in sight we keep continuing continue all the way down now and what we'll do is I'm gonna do a no flap Landing aircraft's trimmed should be very little changes in the pitch I've got my power set we'll bring it down a little bit more and what we'll do is we're going to land we're going to change the visuals but just for a good luck charm let's put Austin up here on the glare Shield there's the runway all lights are on I should turn those on a little bit ago let's start bringing the power back looks like we drifted off center line here let's go and correct Center Line new aim point we're gonna land right about on the thousand Footers we're gonna hit the brakes let's go outside you can see the little bit of moisture on the runway let's do some aerodynamic braking here for the hawk something we don't do in other aircraft there we are so that's basically the in-flight issues talking about some things I do like there are some visual ear issues I don't like but overall I know what I can expect with X-Plane so let's do one more thing if you're still with me at this point we're going to take back off we're gonna climb up to about a thousand feet we're gonna kill the engine and let's talk about overall um engine out procedures and how the aircraft Glides so to make this a little bit more a little bit easier let's change back to let's let's get some nice visuals so let's do VFR scattered I don't want to start a new flight that's a new one I've not seen that occur yet not sure why it wants me to start a new flight just to go bfr scatter let's go a few apply changes all right that's better all right we're going to take off straight ahead and if you're still with me let's talk about a few things we'll leave Austin on the glare Shield we're gonna do a short field takeoff so elevators back we would have the first Notch flaps up let's go zero flaps for this one let's get into ground effect there we are we're off the ground we'll keep her in ground effects as fast as possible but the one thing is I don't feel like I have to do a whole lot of changes for the aircraft to do what I want with it you know with it Microsoft flights in 2020 I feel like it oscillates way too much in ground effect but with X-Plane it's a lot easier but what I'll do is I'll make sure that now that I have the xpc here which has this the better sensor for the actual mechanism I have to go back into Microsoft flights of 2020 in the Skyhawk let's see how it is so let's keep on climbing we're going to circle above the airport we have no flaps out so we're at a clean configuration and a little demo a no power Landing hi Austin now we can put Austin away he goes back into the glove box down here there he is pulling back out there are a few other clickable items in the cockpit here you can open the doors we're not going to bother with that right now but let's climb up but the one thing I do want to reiterate though is about X-Plane and at least the Skyhawk this feels closer to life to me than Microsoft flights from 2020 Skyhawk does it's a really good Skyhawk in Microsoft flights in 2020 but this horn feels closer to what I know in reality all right we're about a thousand 1100 feet now given there are a few other things here you don't have the visuals externally for Speed altitude this is going to be all up to you to figure out but let's go ahead and start killing things I'm gonna go back in a cockpit so you can see what I'm doing let's pull the mixture out I'm Gonna Keep the power all the way into pretty much kill the engine we're gonna go to the first sign of an actual stall so there we go Wing drop I've heard a couple people say they feel like the wing drop is a little too strong for the aircraft I think it's pretty close um I've done spins in Skyhawks before I don't feel like it's too great now we are close to the runway I'm gonna slew The View over but what I want to do is I'm going to pitch for 65 because that's about our Best Glide speed for almost every Skyhawk out there dependent upon weight of course but it's usually a safe number for any Skyhawk pilot to go to we've got the airport made we're close so I'm going to start putting the flaps out here is the flaps I'm going to put her into a slip with right Rudder and I know I shouldn't do full flaps and a slip at the same time because that can create issues for the elevator in the back for elevator Effectiveness but basically in one of these situations keep at least 65 knots nose down you should be normally safe we can demo those issues later on in a different video and here we come down to the runway we got good speed we're not going to crash we're in ground effect and this is pretty close to what I would expect in real life plants that are a little harder than I'd want but I do like the fact that it didn't float it started to come into ground effect I over controlled it and it went right back down and brought us to the runway nice and quick let's bring those flaps up put the mixture back in start back up the engine let's get off this Runway and finish this up so really what are my exit thoughts or final thoughts talking about X-Plane 12 here X-Plane has some definite bugs that still need to be worked out there are some visual issues as you can see with the clouds the windscreen weather issues when it comes down to rain yeah however it's doing a really good job of making the most important things work well within reason is it as good as Microsoft light some 2020 is visually nah not there but when you look around you this looks like a taxiway especially a taxiway I know at Albany um the grass yeah there could be some better stuff of grass you know looking out there not through a window the the visual scenery is not there we all know that but at least the way the aircraft flies the way the aircraft handles when I load the CG different ways it flies away I truly expect it to fly within reason again of a simulator and the fact that you're not feeling g-forces as we go around let's kill that engine let's kill the lights so if you're looking for training purposes and you're trying to become a better pilot you're training for your Private Pilot your student pilot IFR commercial anything up and but and above I feel like X-Plane 12 isn't a is a very good ga Sim trainer when we start to leave GA and we get into actual professional aircraft so you're going to go fly an Airbus a Boeing a Phenom you're going to fly a citation X-Plane has some good offerings but so does Microsoft license 2020 and even FSX prepare 3D and a few others so you might find yourself looking around if you're a professional pilot but if you're just doing a bunch of GA work you cannot go wrong with X-Plane 12 and I would recommend for general aviation training basic simming X-Plane 12 is the best way to go if you have any questions any thoughts concerns leave them in the comments section below thank you all for watching again I hope you guys like the video if you have any other comments please put them down below and I'll be happy to answer them as soon as I can if you're looking for a SIM for training purposes explain 12 is the way to go get it you'll be happy with it for training if you're looking for a SIM for just purely visuals and all types of flying you can't go around with my Microsoft flights in 2020 but is not your best bang for the buck trainer I hope that helped you guys out if you've watched all this way through if you liked like And subscribe Joe from NDB Aviation thank you all for watching see you again real soon bye-bye
