So this is definitely the biggest man I have ever  climbed with and I don't mean only in size.  Eddie Hall is the first person in the World to deadlift  500 kilos, he won the World's Strongest Man in 2017   and is considered one of the strongest men  to have ever walked this planet. There is a   lot of grip strength in strongman and on top  of that Eddie has recently lost weight after   switching his Focus to bodybuilding. This guy  used to carry rocks for a living but will he   be able to climb them? Well, we're about to  find out. Alright so I'm here with Eddie   Hall the World's Strongest Man and probably the  biggest star I've had on my channel so far. That's   a very nice compliment thank you. We met  actually in what was it? 2013 or something? Yeah I   think 2012, 2013 yeah a German TV show. Yeah and  since then you've become the World's Strongest   Man. Yes. But now you're retired now you're doing  bodybuilding that's your goal? Yeah bodybuilding   and climbing. Bodybuilding climbing? Yeah we'll  see. And you have climbing shoes? I do. So as   part of being a World's Strongest Man you have to  pull trucks and to get the grip on the floor   we used to wear climbing shoes. Oh really? I've got  a custom-made pair. Does that make a big difference?   Oh huge! Yeah massive yeah. I don't  have custom shoes, yeah there you go you're not   professional like me mate. The goal today is for you to  climb as hard as possible, right? Yeah. Are   you down to... oh I want to be like that guy over  there. See him? See him over there?  He's climbing yellow, that's pretty hard. That's literally going to be me in about an hours time. There's a gray in the corner here. Hang on, but you're saying grey is the easiest but that's   an inclined wall. Well, you see it's like a dihedral  so you can use both sides. Okay. And you kind of put   the weight off. If you look at these holds. That's what you like right? Yeah, yeah, yeah.   So you see this has a metal ring and this has a metal ring?  You start here and then as you're established   you can start. And here you try to use both sides,  you see you can almost put the weight off. You   don't have to use your hands at all. I do think  though that I downsize my climbing shoes a little   bit more than you do. As in that you get  your toes all.. whoa! You see that? It's like   two sizes too small. Yeah. Why'd you do that? Just  so you can get your feet in nits and crannies?   Yeah my big toe is like in this angle, so it's  gripping the holds. There's my big toe there,  so I've got a little bit of wriggle room. But  that's fine I mean you're going for comfort.   Yeah in the beginning it doesn't  really matter. Do you put any chalk   on your shoes? No the rubber should be without  chalk, it's more.. I was testing you, I knew the answer,   I was just testing you. I was also going to  ask you about the ring but it's   a tattoo. Yeah I don't wear rings, because of lifting. Yeah.   This is the first climb ever? First climb ever. Ever since you climbed   trees as a kid? Yeah probably about 10, 12   when I start climbing trees. Yeah. Last time  I climbed a tree I fell and broke my arm.   So let's just touch wood. You're definitely  the strongest person to climb this wall,   hopefully you won't rip any holds off the  wall. Yeah it's a good point. There you go hip as close to the wall as  possible always. Come on, nice! Good. Awesome. Yep? Yep. Uh how do I get down? Climb down, or you jump down, whatever you prefer. I was gonna say I can catch you, but   I can't catch you. You know for a  170 kilo guy that's high. So how did that feel?  I mean it looked good. Yeah. I could feel things creaking and cracking in my  shoulders. So you know like   the typical beginner tips is uh, hips close  to the wall and also use your legs, because   your legs are stronger than your arms. For beginners that's true,   but for more advanced climbers that's not  true. I don't use my legs at all. You don't?   I want my legs to be as light as possible. You can climb that with just hands? Yeah, yeah. Oh my God. I mean this is very extreme but if  you want to be the the best climber in the world   you're probably best chopping your legs off?  There's actually a guy or I don't know if   the story is true, but he sat in a wheelchair  for a few weeks to lose weight in his legs.   That's how dedicated some people are. Wow  right that's insane. Yeah. The things people do   to win a gold medal. Yeah. Wow! All right, next grade. So you see the chart   over there? Next grade is green, right? Jamie there's a chart! So you   reckon the Orange is like my target for today?  Actually after seeing you on the first climb   maybe it should be blue. We should aim high. Okay. Again that's even more   steeper than that one. Yeah, if you want I can  try to do this one without feet as well. Wow! 🎵 Spider pig, spider pig.. That's a rule yeah. That's not valid no. I don't think  I can start here, I'm gonna have   to, because of how heavy I am. You need to try.   Come on. Use the lower foot. I'm waiting  for one to rip off. Lower foot hold, here.   The lower foot hold, here. Okay. Come on, yes nice! Come on Eddie next one is good! Next one  is really good! Come on yeah there you go! Come on! Come on Eddie, yeah there you go!  Yes two hands on that one that's the top nice! Good job. It was good, yeah! Oh that's keen. Yeah.  Wow. Yeah you thought you weren't   able to start that position, but you did. Yes. You're stronger than you think.   That's only what, 30 seconds of climbing? It gets  your lungs. Yeah it's good. I mean I'm a   fit guy and it gets your lungs wow. Yeah so  now it's orange. Orange, yeah. And I think also   for you we want to find something that is not  so steep so you can use your legs more. Yeah I   think this orange straight ahead is perfect  for you. The holds are not going to be as good so   this is in essence easier rocks to  climb but. Yeah. No harder rocks to climb, but an   easier gradient. Yeah. But this  is orange, this was originally the goal for today.   So you've got nothing to grip. But the thing is here you don't have to   use strength at all, so you see you're always  leaning in towards the wall yeah okay. You can   let go of hands and then just doing one foot  at the time and not moving them up too much.  Often beginners will put their feet up really high and then   I push myself out from the wall so stand  a little bit lower than you think and hip   close to the wall. No smelling salts? No, not today it's a bit much. Here you have to start here and here. So I have to start on this? Yes and be  accurate when you place your feet and stuff   try to be as accurate as possible. Okay. Now it's  leaning into the wall it's going to be the.. Get your right hand up. You see you  use the palm like this. Yeah. So I come up and then come up to this one? Yeah  all right, yes like that, come on and then push   yourself into the wall. Now you.. now  you want to move up your legs, so you want   a right foot here. But you can also use your  left. Smear here with your left if you   want. Smearing means you're not using any hold, but  yeah like that. Now grab the next hold, it's good.   Yeah awesome! Change it with a left. Come  on match it. There you go. And then the top hold.   Next hold is good. Come on Eddie come on. Here left hand. Ah yeah. And then you.. come on! I'm pssing in the wind here. Just go for something, otherwise you're gonna   get too tired. Come on next hold,  is really good! Come on Eddie.   I can't just go for that one? No, that's a down  climbing hold. I can't get it. Okay, just jump down. Nice, I mean that was pretty close. This was your  goal for the day and you almost did it first   try. So I would say uh you're way better  than I thought you'd be. /&%$#/. Yeah. That's odd.   Yeah, uh so we're gonna think how to do this.  It's really high for you to put it here. Yeah,   but then go to this and as soon as you get this,  match and put the right foot out and match.   So I'm expected to jump feet?  Yeah, just jump match feet.   Easy as that? Yeah. Does matching make sense  to you? When I say match? Yeah it does. Okay yeah   Obviously you just switching.. hands. Take a rest, shake the arms.   And I think you're going to feel it tomorrow, you know it's muscles that you're not you   normally using. I'm training legs when I get back home today. Oh you are? Wow that's dedication. It's hard man like   your fingers and it's all working overtime isn't it?  Remember to put pressure on your feet always.   Get the hips close to the wall. Come on, nice,  come on. Get that yeah change it to..   this side of the hand. Come on yeah next one is  good come on just get up on the right foot. There you go! Is that it? Match the last hold. Like that? I could feel it about rip off it. It almost ripped off?  I heard it tare. Awesome. /&$/!#.. when I was hanging on that one it was like.. Okay so I've passed my expectations. yeah we set your expectations way too low, that's...   I mean everyone does that. Yeah so now  it's probably gonna get quite a bit harder.   A little bit? Jesus. Let's pick the  easiest blue we can find. Yeah, that's always a   good strategy. So I would say it's better than  expected. For being 170 kilos he's really good. That's recording. What are these tools here for?  That's for brushing. Uh if there's too much chalk   on the holds you want to brush off some of  the chalk. So you could brush the   blue. You have a good brushing technique.  Thank you. Yeah, you can see it coming off.   You should brush for the thumb as well, that's  underneath. So that's where your thumb   goes? Yeah exactly. I can show you the beta on this  one. So beta is like the method of doing something.   Beta? Beta yeah. It's not, uh Alpha and  beta it has nothing to do with that. Second best.   Yeah, but then instead of grabbing this because  this is a bad hold. Yeah. I would just go here. Wow!   And then coming into this. Jamie is there like  some special editing software where you   can change the colors? You know when  you've got a green screen you can   turn that to Black. I can try my best to yeah. Yeah we'll do that in a minute It's hard work, like I'm amazed. I'm actually  really surprised how hard it is.  And this is bouldering so this is more strength  based, but if you climb it with a   rope it would be a lot more endurance. You would  be breathing harder. Yeah, so just climbing like..   no no you're attached to a rope so then the routes  are longer you know because you don't jump down,   you have the rope. Ah so you go higher up? You go  higher up. This is maybe four meters.. four   and a half meters, but if you climb with a rope  you climb up to 20 meters so then you get really   tired. Okay. But strength wise this is harder  because you do harder moves than you would on   a rope. Oh it's down here. It starts here. Oh no, no chance! So  now the hardest part is going to be to get the   butt off the pads. I literally  got more chance.. oh this is going to be funny. of shagg%!"# King Charles.. in the ass. Okay so from here so now you just have to get the lift off. Yeah easy!   come on yeah yeah yeah nice  come on next one good it's good   next is also good yes nice and now I will go left  hand all the way here that's a very good hold   on come on yes nice yeah get the  foot up get the foot up get a foot up it was so close that was so good though   I can feel like me lots and everything I  can hear my muscle going it looks like a   real climber there I mean this is a pretty big  move your foot popped a couple of times if you   just make your foot placement better you just go  for the undercling right away I think you got it there's a lot of chocolate so if you think you  could do the black one without your legs no no way   wow there's not much to grab right no so there's  no way to do it with your legs you have to   like all limbs have to be on the wall  I don't like your attitude bangers and   you know that 1969 yeah you put a man  on the moon that's that's true yeah or   some people died you can't climb  up without your legs that's true is that on okay you can try it too though the  block they're all approximately   I mean you know they put a man on the moon right allegedly allegedly I mean what's on there  where am I going for next that one yeah so   then you go left hand here left hand yes  I would put my foot here but I think for   you it's better to match yeah okay and go like  this and this is a very good hold okay that's   why I went wrong I didn't use my phone come  on yes nice foot and then Cross Match foot   come on come on next one is good  next one is good just go for it oh you slide it's like a cat clinging at  the wall and one time oh you bastard   my grip's going so fast yeah yeah well  that is proper pump to my hands are yeah it's cool that you're using the right terminology  you said pump my forearms are definitely   black pumps like my skin stretched right  look at that yeah wow talking about a little   baby growing on my forearm see the difference  yeah it looks like a baby arm compared to you surely everyone's seen that uh trains  what's his name that train spotter   where's the GoPro is on his head so that's  definitely Francis is a proper sweet kid   any like that gets that excited over the  trains he's got the GoPro Potter's looking   down right and they're excited so this is  basically the exactly the same but climbing nice foot up right foot up let's come on come on yeah nice come on Eddie what  Theo come on get your right foot up right foot up   right foot up there you go this one is good nice  it's just an underwater I know yeah on a plank   and then you cross the right hand  over or you go get all my grips go   go ahead and left hand my grip's  gone your grip's gone completely oh that's good oh man how's your skin though has  it ripped anywhere it's not too bad it's not too   bad I mean you're used to lifting heavy stuff  lifting weights for yeah 20 odd years something   more technical Maybe I think my hands need a bit  of a break so yeah yeah the feet are pretty bad   it even says here smear I'm going here and here so  that's the hard part as soon as you get this it's   kind of over what do you think I mean they put  them out on the moon so yeah still feel pumped ridiculous you try to shake the  worms nothing nothing solid okay we're just starting here  mate it's on this blue one   cheers man I think your shoes are pretty good  for smearing because those are made for strong   men competitions where you have to rely on  friction yes so then you want to keep a low   heel so you get as much surface as possible on  the whole low a low heel yeah low heel so you   don't want to be like this okay like this so as  soon as you get to this it's a gray on as well yes yeah that's not too much don't use that hole to go straight up today  right to that yeah there you go now oh left   here yeah and then just go for it the last  hole is good oh that that's harder than it   looks come on it's just a little bit committing  you just have to go come on go go go there you go awesome okay oh so you you dabbed a few times  like your foot was touching a   few times the ground yeah but it's okay yeah yeah okay so I did a blue one yeah we'll see  yeah I did a blue one what's that what's the   next level up so he definitely dabbed a few  times but I didn't have the balls to tell   him he's intimidating green Dawn orange Dawn  blue done purple now I didn't think we would   climb purple today that's uh so surprising  there you go yeah what do you think of this   one how does it look horrible horrible  horrible sorry like this take that oh this is probably going to  be the hard part take that you make it look so fluent and effortless   yeah that's what a hundred kilo weight difference  does yeah I guess geez wow this is one one hand   here left hand here and right hand here that's  a footholds there's just no chance yeah I can't   stick to that and then to there yeah so it's  important to keep your hip close to the wall here   yeah like that okay come on here's from zero  to a hundred yeah it does yeah started it yeah okay where am I going now all right  right hand up to that one yeah   you have to move your foot up right foot up first  match the feet and we fought up to there yeah no I think that's where I've reached my limit I  think yeah maybe yeah maybe I am because I mean   body weight I need something to hook into yeah  I can't no no I can't do it yeah I'm 170 kilo   American I'm 370 pounds wow was it fun though  you like this phone yeah I surprised myself yeah   you know and you said I want you to get was  it the orange yeah and then I went past that is that something you were good at cool well I  mean yeah I mean it's a strong one you've got   to have one of the strongest cause in the  world yes exactly so first is one foot up   then it's two feet up yeah and then it's one foot  out two feet up and then it's a front lever to   see where you are I'm pretty sure you can you can  at least get your feet out right in the 90 degree or maybe there's a little bit of flexibility uh involved  too I guess I'm very delicate at the minute so   I'll use this I mean don't you think this would  be good training for strong man because you need   a lot of finger strength you're 100 I think  um I mean obviously I'm not strong anymore   but if I were to go back in time if I had some  grip events coming up yeah this is ideal spend   the day climbing yeah much more interesting than  standing there with weights you know it's exciting   isn't it it's good fun as well so just legs  straight up okay legs up here both yeah both   of them yeah nice easy yeah that's good sure  you've got some sort of Records I remember   watching some footage of you doing one finger  pull-ups yeah you still do them yeah once in   a while not so much anymore but yeah that's  incredible and how many one finger pull-ups   could you do I think uh my record is nine nine  nine one finger pull-ups and then what about   hanging for time on a ball I don't know I'm not  that strong in that I'm a little bit too heavy   like it's not compared to you but compared to  other climbers I'm pretty heavy well I can I I   can hang if my grip was fresh I could hang for  about a minute 50. it's okay yeah that's like I could hang with one hand  and you could hang with two   I think that's going to be pretty even  my record with one is like I think 100   seconds or something so that's okay I  mean the grip is shot but should we try   that let's go and things off with a little  uh competition I'm gonna need the bench no you can't have chalk oh I already put some on  my grip is absolutely sharp I've been lucky I've   been lucky for last 30 seconds like honestly  I feel like I can barely close my hands three a little bit of moist on the  fingers yeah three two one go it's gonna get really painful just  remember they put a man on the moon oh my God I'm going already ah you're not even  close are you oh no yeah oh my God it's probably   good that I tired you out before yeah literally  just pumped I can't even close my hands hardly   wait let's do something with weights so I want you  okay I wanna I want you to shine what should we   try I I've been retired six years mate well you're  gonna be five times as strong as me no matter what   so it doesn't matter what about Turkish get-ups  never heard of it before have you tried them no   I've done it for ages I'll just start with  like uh 12 kilo so you're gonna hold that up stand up yeah and then you've  got to go back down again that's a Turkish guy seems like  a lot of wrist strength yeah yeah   oh wow there's so much heavier  than he made it look oh man oh so easy how about now hmm good good shout I can't do much more than that  though oh my goodness so as a climate aren't   you're more just grip like actual yeah and  there's also there's a lot of different grip   strengths like uh locking the grip that's what  climbers are good at blocking the web like but   not actively squeezing things okay so you know  the grippers yeah I'm not very good at those   I I've never been good at that no I think  you need really big hands to begin with those   yeah yeah what's your hand size like quite  big quite a bit yeah I've got big mix yeah   I've got big hands there's 16 there is this  something you used to do yes yeah so really   good so this is a lot of core strength  right yeah this really changed your core   it's also good for strength when you take the  wrists and I don't know shoulders and everything nice okay good so I'm sure the world  record for this what is the world   record for this it's ridiculous yeah  and it's not even by a big guy either   um top of my head I think it's like 80 kilo  80 kilos yeah oh my goodness I think so come on good come on keep it keep it back down good job that's awesome oh yeah so that's  a challenge for you guys at home to try   it's hard it's harder than it looks yeah for  sure and especially your body weight it's also   hard to get up right yeah I mean it's hard for  me to get up off the floor anyway so I'm done   yeah the baby's oh my God they're so uh they're  ridiculous it's like I've literally grown a little   embryo on my forearm there oh that's so pumped  you're probably gonna be pretty sore tomorrow   when you wake up yeah yeah I'm sure most days  that's what strong men do yeah unless
